WMC Track: DKS ‘That’s Jazz’!’

Every
year the arrival of WMC seems to be acknowledged by a thunderous
downpour of cheap-for-kicks bootlegs, but amongst the mash-ups and
scratch downs there are always a few that manage to bring something new
to the famous originals that they’re based upon.

Sacrilege to Chicago house fans that were partying back in ‘93 this
may be, but somehow DKS’ ‘That’s Jazz!’ (track no.8 in the player)
manages to update Dajaé and Cajmere’s defining jazzy house record ‘U
Got Me Up’ without completely ruining its legacy.

Whilst Dajaé and Cajmere’s original helped to
kick start house music’s fascination for quirky samples from other
genres (a movement that is currently being carried by legions of tech
house and minimal techno producers), DKS’ effort adds enough oddball FX
and scatalogical moments to be considered all on its own.

More stomping than the original, that famous trumpet riff is so
roughly chopped and skewed together in a non-linear fashion that it
brings an overall feeling of grittiness and texture.

The track evolves convolutedly, and the sample gets used and abused,
reversed and stretched in a way that could only have happened in the
digital era.

It’s unshamedly fun, and although there may be a few old skool
Chicago heads plotting a witch hunt to burn DKS at the stake for house
music blasphemy, they’ll be vastly outnumbered at WMC by smiling,
knee-jigging clubbers who were

Analog People In A Digital World (Southern Fried ,  Global Underground, Armada Music).
Nice debut release. I'm digging Da Lukas & Alex D'Elia's original mix and the Maetrik Remix but for me is the Lutzenkirchen Remix the top of the plot here. Well done.

Angel Alanis (Klientele, A Squared Muzik) - yes. LOVE IT!! please send.

Steve Stoll (Proper N.Y.C.) - thanks for the great promo, will definitely make the cut up for my new set!

Patrick Lindsey (Funkwelle, Sci+Tec) - Full Support for the Maetrik mix .. will play it out!

Foursquare (Klientele, Noise Floor Crew, Dust Traxx) - Maetrik is the one for me. This one is left of center: funky, tough and dark with some very interesting new sounds. This one belongs in a warehouse in the wrong part of town. Nice work across the board on all the tracks though

Brian Ffar (Siteholder Records / Chicago) - Lots of good mixes in here, all different in character and sound. But, for me, the Leutzenkirchen Remix takes the cake. Straight nasty funk that probably sounds amazing on a big rig. Can't wait to give it a whirl. Keep 'em coming.

Oliver Holzapfel (Compost Rec.) - My quote for this... My winner is the Maetrik Remix! Especially the bassline did it for me... (Ciselant) Would like to get the mp3 files. If ist possible to get wav files? Best wishes from the Compost office

Jorge Ciccioli (Dekadent, Acktivism) - B2 Dry funky tech house! Amazing piece

Nate Manic (Bad Advice Inc. / Chicago) - Very nice EP guys! All tracks are solid but the standouts for me are the Luetzenkirchen mix and the original mix. The Piatto mix is also a really nice, steady minimal track. Will support!

Mihalis Safras - Support on your label

Ziel100 (Datapunk, Zielscheibe) - ganz schön wicked und wild, aber sehr spielbar

Dj Tedd Patt - what a groover! Im lovin the LUETZENKIRCHEN MIX!!! Can't wait to drop this one

Bruno Banner - I'm really digging the original mix, as well as Lutzenkirchen and Piatto mixes I'd really fancy a promo!

Oscar Vazquez (Level Up, Motion Pressure) - Exzellent Ep

Ulysses (Scatalogics / NY) - All cool DJ tools. They all sound more or less the same, but they're solid, nonetheless

Input Selector (InputSelector.fr) - loving the last three tracks !!!

Rob Mirage - Frequenza Is HOT!!! Definitely an afterhours Bomb for me

Fernanda Diaz (DeepClass, Fumakilla / Chile) - thanks so much for the music, my favorite is the maetrik rmx, i will play and chart for sure! :-)
