..
..It's official, I am now a twit.

After avoiding the pull of Twitter for so long, I posted on Facebook to see if people thought I should join the Tweeter generation.  After a deluge of messages, phone calls, IMs, responses, etc - the overwhelming answer is 'yes.'  You can follow me @djron91 - I also have my Facebook set to update the status automatically and can text directly.  Whereas at Tribe, I can be online and update Facebook directly as I spin... at Play, I can now update Twitter and Facebook directly via text message.  I am working on some ideas for giveaways and contests while I am spinning - i.e. the first person to come to the booth when they get a Tweet, wins a prize  So start following me on twitter @djron91 - let's use technology to have more FUN!

Talking about FUN - Labor Day Weekend is just CRAZY.  I am spinning Thursday and Friday at Tribe, Saturday at Starbase (Louisville), and Sunday at Play (with Melinda Doolittle).

The first Friday of each month at Tribe is HRC Post Office - where you can get a mailbox to exchange messages with that interesting face you want to meet.  Donations support the Human Rights Campaign.  Tonight, we are also celebrating the release of Whitney Houston's highly anticipated new album "I Look To You."  So we will have CD giveaways and Whitney videos being featured throughout the night.   Come out to Tribe for a night of fun and mayhem with the great drinks, the sexiest bartenders, and my musical video madness.  Be there to launch your Labor Day weekend!

There is always talk about whether a bride is pure enough to wear white.  I am wondering what to wear for the White Party at Starbase Q in Louisville on Saturday.  A little-known fact- I am not that pure... but then again, who at my age (35) still is?  I had spun at Starbase Q for their Pride kickoff and they invited me back for this special party. I will be spinning from 10pm-4am so expect a full night of music video madness... to all y'all in Kentucky, come out to Starbase Q to see what it's all about!

Sunday night is going to be an exciting night.  American Idol Melinda Doolittle is going to be performing her dance hit "It's Your Love" on the dance stage at Play.  You can check out the remix video here on YouTube! I will be spinning all night in the dance bar with a lot of brand new remixed videos and hot tracks.  I am very excited about the remix video that producer Robert McAuley did for Lenny B's remix of Backstreet Boys "Straight Through My Heart!"  Also watch for new remix videos of Lilly Allen ("F*ck You"), Pet Shop Boys ("Did You See Me Coming"), Madonna ("Celebration") and Anjulie ("Love Songs.") So come out Sunday night to Play for an incredible night of Hi-NRG music and video!

Make sure to mark on your calendar next Wednesday to be at Tribe for Hump Day with Daisy Rae.  Not only will we be giving away Queen Latifah's new CD - we will also be celebrating the DVD release of "Randy & the Mob"  The movie is describe as "a feel-good comedy with a Southern twist. Good ol' boy Randy Pearson (Ray McKinnon) can't seem to help getting in over his head, and so he borrows from the Mob. When he can't pay, his only hope is a helping hand from his long-suffering wife (Golden Globe Nominee Lisa Blount); his estranged gay twin brother Cecil (also played by McKinnon), and Tino Armani (The Shield's Walton Goggins), a mysterious modern day prophet with a knack for high fashion, Italian cooking, and making money appear and disappear." Winners of Daisy Rae's games will win both the Queen Latifah CD and the "Randy and the Mob" DVD.  So be sure to come out.

Speaking of Movies - the documentary Outrage opens at the Belcourt today, running for a week. If you've ever wondered why it's always the most anti-gay of lawmakers who seem to get busted in tearoom stings, Director Kirby Dick (Sick, This Film Is Not Yet Rated) has made the movie for you. Examining the voting records of several closeted politicians whose voting records are especially shameful as regards the GLBT community, this film will angry up the blood as well as informing the mind. Don't miss it.

One last thing to mention, and this is a little bit awkward for me to mention.  Last year, I was voted Best Club DJ in the Nashville Scene Reader's Poll.  I didn't campaign for it and honestly didn't think I was even in the running.  There are so MANY incredible Club DJs in this town - Lenny B, Mindub, Joey Modus, Chip B, Stretch, Coach, Phil, Justin Kase, Jane Dupree, Playgroup, Spoon, and many more that I love and  respect.   When I won, I was completely in shock and completely humbled by the response from everyone out there.  Voting for the 2009 Best of Nashville Survey is now taking place at http://polls.nashvillescene.com/polls/nvs/bestof09/.  Best Club DJ is category #96.  If you choose to vote for me, I am honored and thank you for your support.

Current mood:  bouncy
The last few weeks have been so crazy that I fell behind on a lot of things, so it's been quite wonderful to have time this week to start catching up.  All of the coverage from International DJ Expo is posted on dancemusic.about.com.   My site www.djron.com is updated with playlists and upcoming events.  I am caught up with entering in all my business cards.  Now,  I am working on catching up on music from the last few weeks... which will be quite important for this weekend because it's MarathRON time on Saturday!

Yes, this Saturday, I've got a 6 hour block from 2pm-8pm on WRVU 91.1 FM.  Outside the hour slot from 3pm-4pm for Out of the Closet - it will be dance music all day long on 91 Rock!  I am aiming to bring in a lot of new music (and of course some current and classic favorites in the mix as well). Go to wrvu.org to check out the new live streaming webcam.  If you are outside the listening area, you can always stream the show live.  Be sure to tune in the this Saturday, because I am taking a 2 week break due to travel (Starbase Q in Louisville on the 5th and the Pet Shop Boys concert in Atlanta on the 12th).   Don't worry though, I will be back with bells on for the 19th!

The six hour MarathRON is the perfect warmup for Saturday night at Tribe!  It's always a party at Tribe with great drinks, hot bartenders, and fun music video in the mix.  I am getting a lot of requests for the new Whitney Houston -- as of yet, there aren't any videos from the new CD, but there is an awesome new megaremix by Jody den Broeder and Warren Rigg which updates five of her classics - and of course we've got a special video remix for that.  As always, we play your requests at Tribe (don't forget the tip jar) and throw in lots of random bits to keep the night fun and energetic!   Come out for the party at Tribe on Saturday night - I will be spinning from 8:15pm to 2am!

Of course, I can't mention Tribe without mentioning Hump Day with Daisy Rae!  Game night on Wednesdays is always fun with her updates of classic TV games shows as well as the dollar cocktail special (6pm-8pm).  You never know who is going to show up at Tribe on Wednesdays - this week Mindy McCready stopped by for some fun and she was an absolute doll.  She commented on my Swarovski headphones (thank you again, Jennifer Hayes) so of course I let her wear them for a picture.  Wednesdays at Tribe are always a fun night!  The next two months are stacked with awesome CD Release parties on Wednesdays with Mariah Carey, Rufus Wainwright, La Roux, Noisettes, Imogen Heap, LeToya and more!

Are y'all excited about Melinda Doolittle performing at Play for Labor Day Sunday - September 6th?  The American Idol finalist will be singing her dance hit "It's Your Love" and more on the dance stage to celebrate the holiday.  That Sunday is always a big night and I am quite excited to be spinning at Play!    If you were at Play this past Saturday, you know what it's like when I bring the PARTY!

Actually, Labor Day Sunday is going to be punctuation of the end of a busy week for me.  I am spinning Wednesday through Friday at Tribe (covering for the fabulous DJ Phil and celebrating the release of Imogen Heap on Wednesday and Whitney Houston's CD on Friday).  Then Saturday, I head to Louisville for a special return engagement at Starbase Q for their White Party.  I am SO EXCITED to play at Starbase Q again - that is such a fun club with an incredible staff.  Then Sunday, I will head back to bring the party to Play.  It will be a wild week and you know I am going to give it my all!

Current mood:  bouncy
Do you ever have one of those epiphany moments?  I had one tonight while DJing a media party for Artrageous (more about that later). There I was DJing for a crowd on the rooftop of Aerial and I realized - this is right, I love being a DJ.  Now this may not seem like a major realization, but something tonight just really felt right.  The crowd was enjoying the music, I was having a good time, and everything was going really well - then it just all dawned on me how lucky I am to be in such a wonderful place in my life where I can entertain people and enjoy myself at the same time.  A very special thanks to everyone out there who makes this possible - whether you listen to the radio show, come out to dance at Tribe and Play, drop me an eMail or just take the time to read this eMail update.  I really appreciate your support.

Enough of the Wendy Williams sentimentality...

Last night (Thursday), I spun a media relations party for Artrageous 22 - Sweet Imagination.  Artrageous is a major fundraiser for Nashville Cares (the major local AIDS service organization) which starts with a crawl of Nashville's finest art galleries and climaxes with the Late Party.  This year's Artrageous takes place on November 14th and the theme Sweet Imagination is a play on WIlly Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.  You know how much I love a theme, so I've already started finding music and videos with the chocolate, candy, sweet and sugar themes to sprinkle liberally throughout the night.  Artrageous is always a highlight of the year for me - the best party in Nashville.  I've been spinning the event since... erm- 1996.  The slight hesitation is because that first year - it was a prerecorded set so that all the special effects in the studio space could be synched (remember the epic snow storm and the shuttle buses).  The first year at the arena - Decade in 1997 - was my first time spinning the event live.  I have so many wonderful memories of Artrageous - as I am sure a lot of y'all do as well.  Mark your calendars for November 14th - Artrageous is one event that you definitely do not want to miss.

Speaking of special themes - wasn't MadonnaMania fun last Friday at Play?  Five hours of Madonna videos and remixes - it was quite insane. I need to send another special thanks out to Robert McAuley - a producer in LaJolla, California who worked down to the wire - creating more than 20 new remix videos for the event.    As many comments as the new laptop bling got (thanks again Jennifer), the t-shirt I was wearing also drew a lot of comments.  It was a tour shirt from 1985 Virgin tour - which I saw at age 12 in Orlando, FL with Beastie Boys opening.  Yes, it was a bit tight, but it brought me back to that amazing night and it was quite funny to realize that the t-shirt was older than some of the kids in the crowd.

Tomorrow night, Saturday, at Play is going to be a REALLY fun night.  I am SO EXCITED to be performing on stage a full night of high energy music, video, visuals, and effects!  When I was there last weekend, I brought back the MATROX card - check out the youtube video to see the effects of full and splitscreen.  For the non-geek out there, the Matrox splits the video image across all three screens - so rather than three screens showing the same video, it's one video stretched across all three, like a movie theater.  Then, with Grand VJ, I can control which screen does what with the video.  All of that is done in real time with keys mapped on the MIDI keyboard.   Yes, you may have read that before, but I get so many questions about it - that its easier sometimes to copy and paste. ..    The theme is Let the Music Play - and as you heard last week - the new Whitney Houston "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" remixes by Daddy's Groove and Peter Rauhofer are quite fierce.  For this weekend, I've got a very special video version of the new Jody den Broeder and Warren remix that was just released.   Also listen for new videoremixes of Kelly Clarkson (Already Gone,) Tiesto/Sneaky Sound System (I Will Be Here) and Letoya Lucket of Destiny's Child (She Aint Got) and new remixes of Jordin Sparks, Nadia Ali, Inna, and David Guetta.  Come out to Play on Saturday night... It's going to be MASSIVE.

Speaking about David Guetta, we are doing a release party for his new CD 'One Love' at Tribe next Wednesday.  You probably know his song with Kelly Rowland (When Love Takes Over) and the song he produced for Black Eye Peas (I Gotta Feeling).  He has had SO MANY incredible club records over the past few years - "Love is Gone," "Just A Little More Love," and "Tomorrow Can Wait."  Wednesday nights at Tribe are always fun with Daisy Rae's Games, dollar drinks (6pm-8pm) and of course - me spinning the whole night.  Hump Day at Tribe... the best place to be on Wednesdays.

Oh, and don't forget to tune in an hour early tomorrow (Saturday) to 91.1 FM - I will be on 2pm.  For those of you who want to watch me spin live on the radio - you can catch the live webcam action on www.wrvu.org... well not that kind of webcam action... dirty, dirty mind.

It has been such an ABSOLUTELY insane week and this weekend is going to be even more so...

The DJ Times International Expo in Atlantic City was massive.  The conference for mobile DJs from around the country is supplemented by an industry event masterminded by Mr. Dance Cary Vance and the Promo Only crew.  Literally, there is something for everyone.  Do you want to see the latest DJ tech/gear - there is an insane exhibition area. Do you want to sharpen your production skills - an insane producer panel with leading international talent.  How about networking tips with social media -check.  For me, the highlight is always the Promo Only Event at House of Blues where they pull an incredible lineup of classic, current and future talent to perform to a packed house.  The lineup was INSANE with Pitbull, Paradiso Girls, Erika Jayne, Deborah Cox, Lisette Melendez, Kim Sozzi, Kaci Battaglia, Letoya, Iyaz, Naughty By Nature, Freedom Williams, C&C Music Factory, Annet Artani, and more.  If any of those names don't sound familiar, they will soon. A highlight for me was seeing Kaci Battaglia perform "Crazy Possessive" - which is shaping up to be one of the biggest pop hits of the year.  I filmed a lot of video clips - which you can check out here.  There are also a bunch of pictures on dancemusic.about.com and my Facebook page.

So - here is what happened.  The PromoOnly show went past 2am Tuesday night.  Then it was time for the afterparty.  I left the after party at 4am so I could pack and grab my car to the airport at 4:30am.  I caught the 6:30 flight out of Philadelphia which got me to Nashville at 8am.  I was back at home and working my day job at 9am.  Then, it was a normal Wednesday - 9am-5pm day job and then 6pm-12mid at Tribe. Needless to say, when I got home - I passed out, not even taking the time to watch the Wendy Williams show that I had recorded.

Enough of the past - this weekend at Play is going to be MAJOR.  Tonight we are celebrating Madonna's birthday with MadonnaMania - a night of all Madonna videos, remixes and mashups.  This was inspired by the MadonnaRama party from last year - which was so much fun but I imagined what would this be like if it was all video.   With the help of producers Robert McAuley, Barry Browder, and Ricardo, we have over 20 brand new - never before seen - Madonna remix videos to premiere tonight.  There is something for every kind of Madonna fan - forgotten classics like Gambler, Over and Over, Causing a Commotion and Who's That Girl. Mashups galore with Faithless and Chic.  Rare remixes - like the hard to find Tony Moran remix of "Crazy for You," the Humpty Vission remix of "Music," and the Illicit remix of "Justify My Love." Tonight will be the ULTIMATE Madonna night.  If you enjoyed the Britneyrama parties, this one will take you to another level!  Be there at 10pm, because there will be no REPEATS all night.

Saturday night at Play is going to be ANOTHER MASSIVE party.  I consider it an incredible honor to entertain y'all at Play a few nights each month so I treat every night like a special event - with surprises and premieres.   Last year, the common theme was "Launch" and this year its been more about "Let the Music Play."  The video concept is amazing but its the music that you dance to.  With that in mind, come out Saturday night to Play for a night of incredible high energy music, video, visuals and effects - unlike anywhere else in the country.  You will hear your favorite dance songs and some new ones that will probably become your new favorites.  Saturdays at Play are always the best place to dance and party in Nashville!

While putting together the music and video for MadonnaMania, I went back and was watching the Virgin Tour and Blonde Ambition tours, remembering how much those early songs spoke to me and really made me a fan of hers.   With dance music, I find meaning in the lyrics and certain songs just speak to me or where I am in my life.  Two current songs - September "Until I Die" and Don Diablo vs Example "Hooligans" have touched a similar cord. I wrote both of them up on dancemusic.about.com (click the links to read about and see the original videos).  The lyrics for "Until I Die" are quite touching and really echo my current mental space.  As y'all know, I am a HUGE fan of Don Diablo and it's amazing to have a video which captures his insane stage performances.  It's kind of crazy, but while in Atlantic City, I found the jacket that Don wears in the video and I will be rocking it on stage.  The war paint - I am not so sure about.    Watch for the premiere of remix videos for both of these new tracks tomorrow night (Saturday) at Play.

Another funny story from Atlantic City.  I kept getting stopped by random people (who I didn't know) asking if I was "DJ Ron from Loggia."  Apparently, the video clip from Loggia where I am interviewed by Rich P (Riddler) about the video setup went VIRAL among mobile DJs and industry people.   Half of them commented about the gear and the other half asked about the headphones.  The timing is kind of ironic because the bling Goddess Jennifer Hayes who designed my Swarovski-encrusted headphones just finished a new masterpiece for me.  As part of the DJRon.Com website redesign, the fabulous Tim Toonen designed a new logo for me.  Jennifer created a laptop cover for me with my logo in Swarovski crystals.  It is flipping insane - I can only imagine what its going to look like  with lights on it.  Talk about bling...  This weekend at Play will be the first appearance of Jennifer Hayes' new creation.  No flash photography please. ..

Saturday afternoon, I will be starting an hour early on WRVU 91.1 FM - spinning an extra hour of dance music from 2pm-3pm.  For an extra dose of DJ Ron madness, check out the brand new webcam stream.  Go to www.wrvu.org during the show and click "See Us Now."  I would love to set the record for most people watching at once!  I am not going to strip or anything - but as anyone who has ever seen me spin live at the club knows, I bounce around and as much fun spinning as y'all have dnacing.

Have y'all heard about Erika Jayne?  Her new CD Pretty Mess was released this week and it features three number one Billboard Club Chart Hits - "Rollercoaster," "Stars," and "Give You Everything."  I saw her perform in AC and her show reminds me of Kristine W - with the choreography, costumes and Las Vegas showgirl vibe - definitely someone to watch out for when she  We were supposed to the release party for this on Wednesday at Tribe but due to some printing issues - we had to push it back until this upcoming week (9/19) at Tribe. Wednesdays at Tribe are always a lot of fun with Dollar drinks (6pm-8pm), Game night with Daisy Rae (8pm-10pm) and of course, me (10pm-12am). We've got lots of fun release parties coming up... so come have fun on your Hump Day with us at Tribe.

Hello everyone... How you doin'?

Yes, I've been sucked into a new TV show - The Wendy Williams show.  I started watching Monday night simply because I saw the clip of her putting Omarosa in her place.  The self-proclaimed queen of all media started as a New York radio show host and has built herself up to a full-on talk show.  I don't know much about her aside from the facts that she is entertaining, delusional, and gay-friendly - three things I love in a host.  She tells it like it is and isn't afraid to speak her mind.   The show airs at 10pm on BET, so you know I DVR it each night because that is way past my bed time.

There won't be much time for sleep this weekend - because not only it is it NAMM weekend, I am spinning at Play (tonight - Friday) and Tribe (tomorrow - Saturday). NAMM is the National Association of Music Merchandisers, a show where stores go to check out what's new in musical instruments, electronics, etc.  A lot of companies that make DJ gear - Numark, Novation, Nord, Akai, Sony - will be in town and announcing new products.  As the tech toy geek that I am, you know I will be down at the convention center covering it for dancemusic.about.com.  Already buzzing are the new Akai mini-controllers - can't wait to get my hands on them to play with.

Tonight at Play, I am bringing out the big guns - the Akai MPK-49 keyboard.  I will use the massive keyboard to control Grand VJ - adding visuals and effects on top of the videos.  Also back will be the Matrox for the full-size theater screen effect.  It takes a bit of work to set it up, but the effect is worth it.  The feedback and response from last weekend was insane.  For a clip of the theater screen effect - check out this YouTube clip.

Watch out for new remix videos from Britney Spears "Radar", Saturdays "Work" and some other suprises.  One track I got a lot of eMails about was the "Beethoven" track and yes, dropping a track with classical music interludes is a bit out there, but you know what- it worked! The track is a mashup of Wolfgang Gartner's "Fifth Symphony" and Ciara's "Work" and was done by DC-based mashup artist Leduxe.  You might remember the mashup of Lady Gaga "Just Dance" and Wolfgang Gartner "Frenetica" that I played a lot last year -- same guy.  He really knows how to nail an energetic mashup.

Friday night at Tribe, we will be celebrating the 50th birthday party for Bud East with a special white party spun by fabulous resident DJ Phil.  I will be spinning Saturday night and keeping the energy going there from 8:15pm-2am with a mix of music, fun, and mayhem.  And who knows, maybe something Sticky and Sweet as a preview for Madonna-rama (August 14th at Play.)

By the way, that's not a typo - I am going to be 15 minutes late on Saturday at Tribe because it's time for an extended dance MarathRon on WRVU.  Tune in at 4pm, for 4 hours of dance music mixed live!  Last weekend when I went through over 1500 new tracks, I knew that it was time to do a longer show to showcase more of the great new music that is coming up.  New Bananarama, check!  Need I say more?  Tune in at 3pm for 91 Out of the Closet/Queer Talk -- and stay tuned from 4pm-8pm to keep the party going!  You can listen in at 91.1 FM or online at www.wrvu.org.

So you've probably heard by now about the nude photo shoot that I did for promo shots.  Its amazing how flowing white sheets make everything look better. Here is the first shot ready for release - http://starbaseq.com/white09.cfm  . Obviously, I'm just kidding, but it's a hot flyer, isn't it?  I am back in Louisville for Saturday night of Labor Day Weekend and it's going to be a crazy weekend - with me spinning at Tribe (Wednesday through Friday), Starbase Q on Saturday, and Play on Sunday.   Well, I guess I take it to heart when they call it Labor day weekend - because I will be working all weekend long!

Look below for just announced Tribe release parties - Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Imogen Heap.

On the road again... It looks like I am going on the road again.  Make that to the sky, as I was just confirmed to spin the weekend of July 24th in Houston, Texas.  I will be spinning Saturday, July 25th at Loggia in Houston.  I am so incredibly honored to be spinning the ultra lounge with Rich P aka the Riddler (who is also part of Al B Rich and the Booth Pimps).  Who knows, maybe we will end up in the studio together while I am there...  I will also be spinning Sunday night at a location to be announced.   Watch for a Detroit date in August to be announced really soon as well!

Tomorrow night, though - it's all about PLAY in Nashville. I am SO EXCITED to be performing on stage a full night of high energy music, video, visuals, and effects!  When I was there two weekends ago, I brought back the MATROX card - check out the youtube video to see the effects of full and splitscreen. The reaction has been insane, as within hours of posting that video I was getting eMails from people around the world asking how I was doing it.

In addition to the great technology, listen (and watch) for lots of great new remix videos - Melinda Doolittle & Jordin Sparks from American Idol come to mind, as well as some insane new electro tracks that I will be working visuals to.  Though I have to admit there are two cover versions that are a guilty pleasure.  There is a new version of Tina Turner's "What's Love Got To Do With It" by Brazen that features the vocals of Adam Lambert!  Of course, there is a video version that is quite exceptional.   Remember that song "Me and Myself" by Ben DJ featuring Sushy, the one with the sick Wolfgang Gartner mix that was huge everywhere?   The singer Sushy is back with a cover of "Grease."  Yes, my cheese radar went way up - but with her vocal stylings and the insane production (melding electro and 2step) - it really works.  Listen (and watch) for both of these Saturday night at Play as well.

For dancemusic.about.com, I do a lot of interviews.  Coming up next are interviews with Kleerup, Book of Love, Paul van Dyk, and Empire of the Sun.  In August, I will be on the other side of the microphone as the guest for the new Outcentral program.  F. Daniel Kent will interview me on August 13th in front of a live audience.  I am kind of nervous because I, erm, don't really censor what I say (listeners to my radio show already know this). So who knows where we will go in that forum?  It will surely turn out to be entertaining as this clip from the Nashville Pride video.  This is why they tell people to SLEEP before doing press ...   Kudos to the Pride committee for producing such a great video of this year's festivities.

Speaking of not censoring myself, as the world seems to be living on Twitter, I am finding myself having more and more fun on Facebook.  Sometimes it gets lonely in the booth at Tribe, so I've taken to Facebook for expressing my thoughts which I can't (or shouldn't say) to people.   I will be back at Tribe next Wednesday (for the Daisy Rae show and The Ugly Truth movie release party) and next Saturday (July 18th). Watch www.facebook.com/djron for what's going on in my mind!

You never know who is going to stop by Wednesday nights at Tribe!  With two hours of dollar drinks (6pm-8pm), two hours of games hosted by the hilarious and charming Daisy Rae (8pm-10pm), and me spinning throughout the night, there is no better way to get over the hump! Check out the upcoming release parties on the schedule below -  LaRoux and Little Boots.  LaRoux is the singer of "Bulletproof" which debuted at number one in the UK this past week!

..
..Last weekend was hot, and not just the outdoor temperature.  I had the pleasure of celebrating Pride both in Memphis and Nashville!  Friday night at Quetzal for Red Room was a perfect launch for the pride celebration.  The coffee house clears out the table and turns into a fabulous dance club for the night.  I look forward to playing there again really soon.

As soon as the club closed, we (my dear road warrior companion Tracy and I) drove right back to Nashville in order to make it in time for the Pride festival.  A quick nap was all I had time for before rushing downtown to see Lady Bunny on stage.  Her routines are always as entertaining as her outfits.  I don't know how she maintained her hair in the heat!  She was a busy girl as well, catching a car to Columbus, Ohio to perform that night!  Milling about Riverfront Park, I kept thinking - wow - this is what Pride is supposed to.  Everyone was out for a good time - there were people everywhere - and the people downtown got to be included in the party.  The Pride committee made a really brave and wise decision to move the festival from the seclusion  of Centennial to the more visible Riverfront.  Their efforts deserve praise and if you haven't yet donated money - please do so at nashvillepride.org.

Jason Antone was electric on stage as well.  His new CD is very much on the new-wave/electro 80s tip and it really fits his songwriting and vocal style.  Its a testament to his strength as a performer that he was able to engage the audience especially since a majority had probably never heard of him.  While enjoying his performance, I got a text from a California number and I looked up to see Lauren Hildebrandt waving me over.  Lauren had performed the night before at Play to rave reviews.  She was an absolute doll and we caught up a bit.  Lauren had to rush back to Los Angeles to finish preparing for her CD release party - if you like pop/dance music, you should definitely check it out.

I would have loved to stay at the Pride festival longer (and I kick myself for missing Deborah Cox, who is always incredible live) but I had to take a nap and a quick shower before going to spin at Tribe.  I am so GLAD I did because Tribe was insane!  I think it was even busier than New Year's Eve.  The energy was electric and the crowd was definitely up for a good time.  Unfortunately, there was a certain someone who got in my face a bit too much.  Of course, I listened to her comments and smiled but it really ticked me off.  So much so that I facebooked a retort of what I wanted to say - and that triggered a maelstrom of responses via eMail, Facebook, instant messages, and text.  I really had no idea how many people are on Facebook at one time.

In case you missed it - this was the comment I posted.
"Actually, Miss music critic, I haven't played a single techno song all night. By the way, real breasts don't look like oranges protruding from bone. Speaking about orange, it is not a natural skin color either. If you're mission was to look like a transie oompa loompa, congratulations - you achieved it."

Of course, I am in no way trying to offend those who enjoy bottle tanning (it's healthier than sunbathing or fakebaking) or even those who have undergone surgical enhancement, but taken together with her horrible attitude - the facebook entry was my only way to respond. It's sad but I think there are people who go out with the sole purpose of being miserable and making those around them that way as well.  I, of course, am on the opposite extreme - for me its all about the party, spreading good energy, and playing awesome music to entertain everyone.  Granted, I could see how someone on the opposite extreme might find my poisitve energy annoying - but I firmly believe that each and every one of you - bring the party.  If you are just coming out to spread negativity, please stay home.

Speaking about positive energy - wasn't Paul van Dyk INCREDIBLE on Tuesday at Limelight?  PvD is best known for his trance and progressive sounds and on this tour he is really all about energy, building it up, bringing it down and then banging you up a new higher level.  I interviewed him for dancemusic.about.com prior to the show and when he explained his setup - how he is producing the music live - it kinda gave me laptop envy.  With him, it is definitely never the same show twice and he is a perfect example on how to laptop DJ the "right way."  Kudos to the opening DJs - Pete K and Joey Modus who represented Nashville well and Chris & Zea Allen who were quite creative with the visuals.

All that in one week - so are you ready for this WEEKEND!  Bring all of your positive energy, good vibes and most of all your dancing shoes - for two incredible nights at Play.  I will be spinning Friday and Saturday night at the hottest dance club in Nashville!  It's very rare that I have the honor of doing a full weekend, so I try to make it special and take things to the next level.  For this weekend, the MATROX is back.  For the non-geek out there, the Matrox splits the video image across all three screens - so rather than three screens showing the same video - its one video stretched across all three, like a movie theater.  The experience is very encompassing - you really feel part of it - with the awesome music, the visual/video/effect mix on the screen, the lights/CO2/smoke/haze, and of course the dancefloor filled with hundreds of people partying along with you.

There are several new video remixes this weekend (Lady Gaga "Paparazzi," Keri HIlson "Knock You Down," Paradiso Girls "Patron Tequila") and I was especially inspired by a special classic track that PvD dropped Tuesday night which is also remembered as a Connection/eXceSs classic.  When I spin the new video remix at Play this weekend, I have a feeling there weill be screaming heard all the way up Church Street!  Come out to Play tonight (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) and get to the dancefloor early.  The show starts at 10pm and you don't want to miss a moment.

Wasn't Melinda Doolitle adorable Wednesday night?  The American Idol treasure stopped by Tribe to catch the Daisy Rae show and meet some loving (and thoroughly suprised fans).  Now to stop the rumor that was going around - it was Mandisa who made comments that were perceived to be anti-gay, NOT Melinda.  Please let's remember that as the awesome remixes of Melinda's single "It's Your Love" (by Jason Nevins and Mike Rizzo) start to get more and more airplay/club play.  You never know who is going to stop by Wednesday nights at Tribe!   With two hours of dollar drinks (6pm-8pm), two hours of games hosted by the hilarious and charming Daisy Rae (8pm-10pm) and me spinning throughout the night, there is no better way to get over the hump!  Check out the upcoming release parties on the schedule below - Just Dance, Laroux, Little Boots, and FindFred - just to name a few.

For those outside Nashville, be sure to keep watching the site - djron.com.  It looks like that I will be travelling a good bit with discussion about dates in Houston, Detroit, Baltimore/DC, Louisville, Orlando and Atlanta.  Nashvillians needn't worry, I have no plans of leaving and I LOVE spinning at Tribe, Play, WRVU and WRFN.

A closing note in honor of Michael Jackson who passed on from this world yesterday.  He is survived by not only fans and family but also by his musical legacy will be felt by generations to come.

Last Saturday in Louisville was SO MUCH FUN.  I had dinner with local DJs Brian Alan and Tom Remix and then spun at StarBase Q.  The venue is really cool - a warehouse space that has been split into areas.  The crowd had never seen music video mixed before, so I think it took a little while for them to understand.  My favorite was "Can you play requests?"  People were thinking that it was all preprogrammed and didn't realize that everything I do - music and video - is chosen on the fly and mixed live.  The response was incredible and I should be back playing in Louisville again really soon.

Apologies to everyone for missing the radio show though and not having an apt substitute.  I had an incredible DJ lined up but at the last minute he had to cancel for personal reasons.  Please listen in Saturday, because I will make it up to you.  During the Out of the Closet segments, I have interviews with Jason Antone and Lauren Hildebrandt - both of whom are performing in Nashville next weekend for Pride. Lauren will be at Play Friday night (June 19th) and Jason Antone will be performing at the Pride celebration on Saturday afternoon (June 20th.)  Both are INCREDIBLE live performers, as, of course, are Deborah Cox and Lady Bunny who will be headlining the Pride celebration as well!

Did everyone enjoy Steve Aoki Wednesday night at Play?  I have mad respect for Leon/Ultimo Events who consistantly brings top level DJ Talent (Paul Van Dyk, ATB, Deadmau5, Benny BenassI) to Nashville.  His Friday night Noise events at 12th and Porter are definitely banging. I personally love checking out the DJs as both a fan to dance to great music and as a DJ to learn from the masters.  Music-wise, I enjoyed it - aggressive electro - though it wasn't what I expected it from him.   He usually plays more the rock/indie electro thing - his label is Dim Mak and championed the whole Justice/MSTRKRFT thing. Last night, he was experimenting with a new show format focusing more on live performance but to me it came of like he was trying to be Tommie Sunshine with the music, hair, and the voice of G-d thing.  For those who don't know much about Steve, his parents started Benihana - and he started on somewhat of a DJ AM path with West Coast celebrity/A-list private parties.  The electronica press got behind him and helped make him a star.  With his product endorsements and media persona, he has been one of my personal role models.   Watching the show last night I felt bad for him with the problems he had with his Serato setup (another reason that I am glad that I use Virtual DJ) and I thought the volume was way too loud (its hard to gauge volume from the stage setup so I know this is kinda pot calling the kettle black), but his energy on stage was electric and the crowd that was there to have fun definitely did.  It was something different and it's great to see Play taking a risk on something new.  If you liked Steve Aoki, be sure to check out 12th and Porter on Friday nights!

Now onto this weekend - I am incredibly excited to be spinning at Play Saturday night!   I will be on stage rocking a mix of hot music, video, visuals and effects for the hottest dance club in Nashville!  Watch for a lot of new remixes and remix videos (Dizzee Rascal, David Guetta) this weekend as well as some updates of classics.   Basically something for everyone - whether you know it or not. I've been experimenting with a new sound setup and after last weekend in Louisville, I think I have hit the magical spot where everything is just about perfect.  Part of being a laptop DJ is working to improve the setup, since there really isn't a proven standard that works everywhere.  If you watch me on stage Saturday night, you will see me using the house mixer and the Vestax to control the audio output.  By splitting the audio output to the mixer, I've achieved a much higher sound quality.  What does that mean to you - better sound on the new and improved Play sound system!  Be there at Play at 10pm, you don't want to miss a minute of the show!

Don't forget, I will be in Memphis next Friday at Quetzal to kick off their Pride celebration!  I will be driving back Saturday morning to celebrate Nashville Pride and then Spin Saturday night at Tribe. Pride in two cities - its going to be awesome!

Also mark your calendar for next Sunday, June 21st - My Dear Disco is playing at Exit Inn!   They are an indie electronic dance band from Michigan who sound like a cross between Cut Copy and Gossip with a bit of a Daft Punk 80s feel.  I saw them when they passed through Nashville in March and am VERY excited to see them in town today.  I wrote about their last show on about.com and here is a review of their DanceThink LP.

Before I go, big shout to the One in Teen crew.  The "Pirates of the Queeribean" Prom was a huge success.  Special thanks to OutCentral for hosting the event and all the volunteers who made the night so special for the participants.

Did everyone have a great Memorial Day weekend?

I was wild - spinning all three nights (Friday and Sunday at Play and Saturday at Tribe).  By Monday, I was ready to sleep.  Sunday night at Play was especially wild; a full dancefloor screaming and grooving all night to a mix of awesome music.   I did a mix of electro/tech, singalong vocals, aggressive house, classics, and REALLY random requests.  It was funny watching the expressions on peoples' faces as the songs started.  You never know what I might throw at you...

Speaking of which - are you ready to have more fun this weekend!

This weekend I am spinning both tonight and tomorrow night (Friday and Saturday night) at Play!  I am so excited to be on stage giving a full-on show of hot music, video, visuals, and effects for the hottest dance club in Nashville.  If the Facebook/Myspace/eMail messages are any sign, that can be expanded to a much bigger region.  The eMails from visitors who come from around the country are superlative with their compliments and praise both for the club and the "DJ Ron" experience.  Lots of great new music and video for this weekend, including EXCLUSIVE video remixes for Fedde Le Grand "Scared of Me" and Gathania "Blame It On You," hot new remixes from Christinia DeBarge, Dizzee Rascal, and Don Diablo, as well as a quite cheeky mashup video of Cascada and Darude that will no doubt bring back some wonderful memories.   The show kicks off at 10pm at Play on Friday and at 10.30 pm on Saturday (see below) - and you don't want to miss a minute of dancing at Play this weekend.

Saturday night, I will be a little bit late at Play because I am incredibly honoured to be spinning the "Pirates of the Queeribean" Prom for One in Teen.   The dance is for LGBTQIA teenagers (age 14-22) from 7pm-10 at OutCentral on Church Street.  I remember the last time I DJed the One in Teen prom, it was at eXceSs close to 10 years ago - it was quite a fun night  Tickets are available in advance for $20 at Outloud ($25 at the door).  For more information, check out the One in Teen Website.

The buzz has really spread about Martina McBride's appearance at Tribe last week.  Both MetroMix and Out and About have photos from the night.  My favorite photo is this one of Martina wearing my infamous Swarovski/Jennifer Hayes headphones.  Check out the pictures at OutandAboutNewspaper.com and metromix.com.   And of course, don't forget to come out Wednesday night to Tribe for Hump Day with Daisy Rae - you never know who will be there.  Upcoming CD release parties include Black Eyed Peas, Vanessa Williams and Utada.  See below for the dates!

Wow - I am already getting a bunch of eMails from Louisville and Memphis people about the upcoming bookings.  I will be at Starbase Q in Louisville on Saturday, June 6th for a Pride dance, and at Red Room/Quetzal in Memphis on Friday, June 19th.  The events are already buzzing - I love Nashville - but its also great to take the show on the road and gig out of town.  Watch for more cities in the very near future!

Have you heard the new Robyn song with Royksopp?  How about the new song from Yuksek? If not, then you haven't been following the Song of the Day cover story at  dancemusic.about.com.  Each weekday, I post a new song that you should check out.  Everything from underground to commercial to bloghouse to electro,  the selections are as varied as you can imagine!

Of course, all you guys should check out FindFred.Com.  Its going to be THE premiere online service for gay men online.  Whether you are looking for the one special person in your life or a special one to party with tonight, the site will have features like both Match.Com and Manhunt.  And you can rest assured that a portion of the proceeds will benefit LGBT charities.   Findfred.com is looking to have dance music lovers involved, so when you sign up for your screen name use promocode MUSIC - to get a free month of premium access when the site launches.  The site is really fun and will be easy to use.  Let me know if you have any questions!

Yes, she was there.  Martina McBride came out Wednesday night to Tribe.

We were celebrating the release of her new CD Shine, and Martina decided to check out the action.  Daisy Rae was in RARE form - jumping from Speed Dating for Nashville Pride to hosting the Hump Day games.  We did two rounds of Name That Tune, video-style, with the second one being ALL Martina videos.  The fans loved that.  Then Daisy did a special performance of the Lenny B remix of Martina's "Shine."  Honestly, I have to say that I was completely blown away by Martina - not only was she incredibly nice, friendly and real - she is also VERY intelligent.  She came up to the DJ booth and watched me spin the videos.  The questions she was asking really showed that she knew what she was talking about.  Being the stylish lass that she is, Martina especially loved the headphones and we got a cute picture of her rocking them.  All told, it was an amazing Hump Day at Tribe.  Come out to Tribe on Wednesdays, you never know who will be there!  Special thanks to Rachel Fontenot (Mad Donna's/Mercury) for arranging the logistics.

Remember the LL Cool J song "Going Back to Cali?"  Well, I am going back to Memphis!  Kicking off MidState/Memphis Pride, I will be spinning the Red Room at Quetzal on Friday, June 19th.   The monthly event is now 18 and up, which I think is good for everyone ... The coffeehouse transforms into a chic nightclub / lounge and the massive wall projection screens and TVs throughout make a perfect canvas for my Video/visuals show.   For all the West TN people out there who have been asking me to come back to town -- mark your calendar for June 19th.  Who knows - it might become a regular monthly gig?

Looking forward to this weekend in Nashville - it's Malibu Beach Party!  Tribe and Play team up for a block party with all kinds of mass hysteria.  Build your own bathing suit... that's hot!  Don't forget, Monday is a holiday, so Sunday night will be a big party night as well.  I am playing all three nights - Friday at Play, Saturday at Tribe, and Sunday at Play.  I AM SO EXCITED. Come out and party on Church Street this weekend - you will not want to miss the festivities!

Doing the Song of the Day feature for dancemusic.about.com has really forced me to keep my eyes (and ears) open for the hottest new music. There are so many new amazing records that I am looking forward to playing this weekend.  Listen (and watch) for new tracks from Fedde Le Grand ("Scared of Me"),  Gathania ("Blame It On You"), Dizzee Rascal ("Bonkers"), Space Cowboy ("Falling Down") and more.   For a preview, check out the cover blog at dancemusic.about.com and the listening booth.  One big favor, please hold off on the Britney requests this weekend.  Derrick Barry was amazing at Play last Friday, but after playing 5 hours of Britney music - I think we could all use a short reprieve ...

Next Saturday is going to be WILD.  I have the incredible honor to be DJing the annual Prom for One In Teen!  Back in college, I went to One in Teen and I have always loved what they do for the community.  The social/support group for gay teenagers has helped a LOT of us over the years. Themed "Pirates of the Queeribean," the dance is for LGBTQIA teenagers (age 14-22) from 7pm-10 at OutCentral.  Tickets are available in advance for $20 at Outloud ($25 at the door).

Last week I mentioned FindFred.Com and got a lot of eMails back about it.  A little background, I've known the people behind FindFred.Com for years, they've developed an LGBT empire (if you can call it that) in Columbus, Ohio, and were inspired to launch the site after the whole Manhunt/McCain debacle last year.  I strongly recommend that everyone check out FindFred.com and sign up for your username.  The site will launch in the summer and I think you will be really impressed.  Findfred.com is looking to have the dance music world involved, so when you sign up for your screen name use promocode MUSIC - to get a free month of premium access when the site launches.  The site is really fun and will be easy to use.  Let me know if you have any questions!

A big shout out to everyone in Owensboro, KY who came out last Saturday to Equals!  What an amazing night!   The dancefloor was packed all night and everyone was up for a good time.  I really love spinning that club!
