It
seems like the minute I think I have seen it all, and there is nothing more
that can blow my mind - I am kicked in the balls and reminded I HAVE SEEN
NOTHING, and it truly is just the beginning.
In
this instance I am referring to the events that took place last night with the
REPO SHADOW CAST.
REPO
came out in November in just four screens. We had no publicity, no
marketing, no trailer placement, no billboard adds, or any of the other frills.
We made a movie that was virtually destroyed by all mainstream critics.
REPO
had EVERYTHING going against it. Or so it seemed. However, REPO did have
one thing. We had the single most important element in our favor...
Fans...
Because
of all you, and your tireless dedication, your fighting, your REPO ROLLING, your
FAN ART, your over all insanity. Repo truly became the little movie that
could.
Last
night, I was humbled to walk into a SOLD OUT midnight screening of REPO.
People were being turned away at the door. Sunset 5 was a circus.
It's so
hard to write these blogs, and try to put into words something that is
ultimately 'indescribable'.
Numerous
friends, and colleges have come up to me recently asking me “Aren’t you sick of
Repo…” Aren’t you ready to move on
with your life and career?”
Obviously,
I want to continue to create.
Continue to make new and exciting things. But I will NEVER step away from something like REPO.
Most
creators, be it, actors, directors, producers, writers – will work their entire
life and never see the kind of fan response we are seeing now with REPO.
Terrance, Darren Smith and I have been working for years to bring REPO to the
screen. And while we hoped, REPO
would have been a critical and financial success, we are more thrilled and
taken aback by its fan success.
Thank you to the fans, who have continued to fight for, and promote, REPO when
the outcome seemed bleak. Thank
you to the fans who continued to push us, the creators, when we were ready to
throw are hands up in the air.
Thank you to fans who have shown the industry – that you have a voice…
and you don’t need bus stops ads to tell you what you like. But more importantly, thank you to all
the people who have come out to all the screenings not afraid to be themselves,
no matter how weird or outside the box others might label you.
I am
honored to be apart of the insanity you all have created.
