Those of you who listen to our podcast know that a song from the JRoQ vs. Dr. Trey album was to be featured on "Adventures in Hollyhood." Well that ended up happening last night. The song "Another Blue Day," written by JRoQ, had a few seconds of life on the new MTV program that features the group Three 6 Mafia and their new life in Hollywood CA. To read more or hear samples of the songs head over to DoctorTrey.com

I know this Has nothing to do with our website, but we do talk about it on the podcast almost every show. American Idol, a show that you may not have heard of before, is once again the talk of the town. In this case though it has nothing to do with great singers, but rather a singer who can't sing but has appeal in other ways such as personality and style. I know you're thinking that I'm talking about Gwen Stafani right now, but I don't actually believe Stafani would get past the first round in AI. So, I must be talking about Sanjaya. There's an article in E! News today that talks about the extremes that fans of American Idol are going through to get Sanjaya off of the show. That is a must read because it is actually very funny. Both Howard Stern and votefortheworst.com have been campaigning for votes for Sanjaya. Of course as you all know by now, we too are asking that you vote for him. Judge Simon Cowell has said that he would quit the show if Sanjaya wins! You might be asking yourself, "why would Dr. Trey want us to vote for a singer that can barely sing?" Well here's my reasoning. I feel that the voting system on American Idol is flawed. Take the Jasmine Trias votes as an example. How did she get to the top 3? How indeed. I believe the voting should be done by voting for the person that the viewer believes should actually be voted off of the show. Of course I also feel that the votes should be limited to not how many times you're willing to dial the phone but rather 1 or maybe even two votes. Beyond all of this, I would just love to see the "big industry" have to put up all this money on a project that people won't even want to download illegally. Heck, this could be a great way to to read the rest of this post head over to DoctorTrey.com

With Hawai'i Stars in yet another season (with the beautiful Mailani Makainai as a judge,) I thought It would be a great chance to talk about the differences between Karaoke and Professional singers. Last season I really enjoyed listening to Tiffa Garza and her sister Connie Cruz (both of the famous Cruz 'Ohana) yet, not only are they Professionals, but they went on stage and played their guitar to accompany themselves. Well, if Hawai'i Stars is a "Karaoke" contest, bringing the guitar on stage is just not right, and in fact in my eyes not fair. Well, they didn't win so maybe it was more unfair to their doing well, but take the unfairness out of the picture and I liked them the best. There I said it, you were thinking it, so you're welcome. Well, I've been to a few Karaoke bars in my life and have noticed many ..more-->similarities between the many singers I've heard. Yet, I've found many differences between Karaoke singers and the professional singers I work with. 10 to be exact. I don't claim to be a singer, I'm not. Am I worthy to decide who can and cannot sing? Of course! Well, maybe not. Ok, no but this is my blog, you're reading it, so it must mean you like what I say, or maybe you're waiting to correct what I'm saying. Nice! Don't take me so seriously folks, I love that people like to sing. So If you're a Karaoke singer just have fun with it, and don't take it too seriously. If you really are that good, someone would have invested money in you by now, and to read more visit our website

I know MySpace has become one of those household words, and if you don't have a MySpace site these days, you're not "in." MySpace needs a major revamping though. Jeez it is so slow. I'm trying to browse a bunch of MySpace pages today, just looking to see who's doing what out there, but these pages take so long to load. I mean with all the videos and large pictures and music that automatically starts (yes I'm talking to you Bran "The Icon") it seems like the page will never finish it's loading. I would like to encourage all of you to have a City Bity page. I know they don't have as many users online, but at least it runs smoothly. Beyond that, why not get a City Bity page, link it back to your page so you at the very least get one more backlink. I really don't understand why the name "City Bity" and I do wish I could set up technorati with it, read the rest of this post here or visit DoctorTrey.com.

With everyone talking about how "real" music needs to be and how music needs to come from the very soul of the artist or how music needs to reflect the true life of the artist blah, blah, blah, why is it that the rules somehow don't seem to apply when it comes to reggae music done by non-jamaicans. I've recorded musicians, in fact even produced musicians who preach and chant the "true music" mantra but for some reason need to apply their best Jamaican accent to their "Ragga." Do I agree with it? The short answer is no but allow me to expand on that thought for just a bit. Everyone in Hawaii knows how big Reggae music is in our islands. The rhythms are infectious and we've all found ourselves bobbing our heads to it at one time or another. To create that sound, many would agree that, besides the actual feel, there are certain elements that could help us get there. The "Skank" and "One Drop" are common terms thrown around the studio when attempting to infuse a bit of reggae into our sound. I have never heard one musician say, however, "let me do this fake accent and put it into my music to make it sound reggae." Why not? Isn't the accent fake? Of course it's embarrassing for the artist to admit that they are using an accent that they "practiced" to give more "authenticity" to their sound. Even if you're good at it (which I honestly wouldn't know,) why do it? Read the rest of this post here or vist DoctorTrey.com
