I ended up playing for two hours instead of 1½, because the first band (Body Corporate - who were pretty boring) took a long time to start. Then Matthew played before Je Suis Animal came on. They turned in a great set, mostly off the album but also a fantastic version of "Painted In My Face" and a most brilliant cover of Jenny Moss' "Hobbies".

Ballboy – Born In the USA
God Help the Girl – Perfection As a Hipster
Holly Maxwell – Don’t Say You Love Me Until You Do
Very Truly Yours – Uncertain Times
White Night – Birthday
Fabienne Delsol – No Time For Sorrows
Danielle Denin – Quand tu m’embrasses
The Attack – Anymore Than I Do
caUSE co-MOTION! – It’s Time!
Blank Dogs – Tin Brids
The Field Mice – Fabulous Friend
Razorcuts – I Heard You the First Time
The Pains of Being Pure At Heart – Gothenburg Handshake
The Clientele – Share the Night
Ginny Arnell – Dumb Head
The Floyd Dakil Four – Kitty Kitty
Liechtenstein – Postcard
Wake the President – Miss Tierney
Endless Bob Brown – Never Again
Even As We Speak – Blue Suburban Skies
The Fizzbombs – You Worry Me
The English Muffins – Leave Or Stay
Bobby Goldsboro – Too Many People
Dolly Mixture – How Come You’re Such a Hit With the Boys, Jane?
Shop Assistants – Seems to Be
Camera Obscura – Honey In the Sun
Bob Brady – I Stand Rejected
The Centuries – Yeah It’s Alright
The Manhattan Love Suicides – Never Far From You
The Wedding Present – Go Out and Get ‘Em Boy!
The Dovers – She’s Not Just Anybody
Majestic – Tumbling
The Lucksmiths – There Is a Boy That Never Goes Out
They Go Boom!! – Somewhere In England
Widdershins – Now You Know
Felt – Don’t Die On My Doorstep
Clothilde – Saperlipopette
The Third Tuesday – Love Is Better Than Ever
West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band – Transparent Day
The Claim – Not So Simple Sharon Says
Cola Jet Set – Subidubi
The Baytovens – Waiting For You
Gay Shingleton – In My Time of Sorrow
The Ballroom – Love’s Fatal Way
The Harbinger Complex – Sometimes I Wonder
The Delmonas – Chains
Betty Everett – Let It Be Me

I managed to withstand the tide of people requesting Michael Jackson (DJing on the day of his death was always going to be tough!), with some help from Matthew who explained that I was from Sweden and "didn't know" Jackson had passed away!

It's already June, and the new six-song mix has been playing on our profile for a while. Now gracing DDOMD's public front are these tracks:

Twice As Much - True Story 45 a-side, 1966
This one of four singles from David Skinner and Andrew Rose, all on Immediate. Another one was featured on the latest HAIYH, "Step Out of Line". Perfect, lightly psychedelic baroque pop. Check out the double-reissue of their two LPs if you want more.

Dave Charles - Ain't Gonna Cry No More 45 a-side, 1966
Out on the Donnie label - perfect uptempo northern, with jangly guitar. Also on the Have a Good Time Vol. 2 comp on Goldmine.

Les Fleur De Lys - So Come On
45 b-side, 1966
This was the b-side to "Circles", their most well-known song and perhaps the best version of that particular Who number. This is equally great - produced by Jimmy Page and out on Immediate!

Brilliant Colors - Takes So Little Time 45 b-side, 2009
The flip to the recent Highly Evovled 7" on Captured Tracks, and I much prefer this actually. Look out for more releases from this brilliant (sorry) San Francisco trio.

Gigi Parker & the Lonelies - Beatles, Please Come Back
45 a-side, 1964
Another Beatles tribute... found it on Growin' Up Too Fast: A Girlgroup Anthology. Perhaps not the best 2-cd set ever, but I love this song and the unexpected, dirty guitar solo. Apparently co-written by the guy who penned "Wild Thing" (no wonder).

The Loft - Like
45 b-side, 1984
Flip to the famous "Why Does the Rain?" single on Creation. Their first, and one of the first on McGee's label. They changed their name from The Living Room, before playing McGee's London club The Living Room. Well done!

We had a slightly different clientele this time as a large section of the Auckland Anorak Massive was down with flu - or at least a cold! It was fun, and we even played Nesian Mystik - to celebrate the END of New Zealand music month...

Josef K - Heaven Sent (Chris)
The Wave Pictures - We Come Alive (Alexis)
Lovejoy - Penelope London (Kris)
Memphis Minnie - I'm a Bad Luck Woman (Chris)
Patsy Cline - I Love Honey (Alexis)
The Pines - Darling, Don't You Think? (Kris)
Francoise Hardy - Tous les garcons et les filles (Chris)
The Reduction Agents - Mississippi Moonshine Girls (Alexis)
Sportique - Rollercoaster (Kris)
Dolly Mixture - Side Street Walker (Chris)
The Visitors - Flat On My Back (Kris)
The Magnetic Fields - Swinging London (Alexis)
Simpático - Union Station (Kris)
The 6ths - As You Turn to Go (Chris)
Belle & Sebastian - Le Pastie de la Bourgeoisie (Alexis)
Razorcuts - Summer In My Heart (Kris)
Slipslide - Will You Lead Me? (Kris)
Yo La Tengo - Here Comes My Baby (Alexis)
Denim - Living In the Streets (Chris)

Nesian Mystik - For the People (Alexis)
Guided By Voices - Smothered In Hugs (Chris)
The Fairways - Postcard Picture Perfect (Kris)
The Liberty Ship - She Don't Care About Time (Kris)

As you can see, I had a bit of a Matinée theme going. I got this idea after listening to the first Lovejoy album earlier in the day - just remembering how stagger tunes like "Radio" and "Live Alone Forever" are. Play the whole thing here!

I'm so proud to announce a one-off club night here in Auckland! It's going to take place at Cross Strees Studios, which is a space run by an artists' collective (who also live there). Uni & Her Ukelele has scheduled her first stop in New Zealand there, and also playing is fresh Auckland trio Wildwood Lights - who have famously been described as a county-tinged Slow Down Tallahassee. Otherwise everything will be as usual. Buy your flight ticktes now!

Uni is also playing the MUM Club Night at Cassette Number Nine on the 12th, so if you're busy on Wednesday evenings you'll get another chance then. I was supposed to be DJing there, but I'm going to do that on a later date instead.

The Gladeyes song is from their first ep, which I didn't even know about! I was going to play another of Angie Tillet's bands for Markie (sadly absent yesterday) cause he played Death By Chocolate last week, but I ended up with the instrumental version of "Johnny Johnny"... Also, I played one of Jez' other projects: Tomorrow's World, which was (unknown to him) also the name of an obscure 60s band. TVPs are doing a Raincoats cover. And since Richard fervently requested Cam Ob, it's credited to him!
