Tuesday we're making a jubilant return to our spiritual home Fiction Non Fiction at Tiger Lounge. As always the doors open around eight, the booze is cheep, the entry is free and the music is sinister. Also playing are Heads We Dance and Bitterly Ironic.

Thursday is a doublejo(H)ngrey debut: for the first time ever we're gonna be on't telly*. Visit www.letsgoglobal.tv and find the No Budget Show. It airs live at seven pee em and will be available to watch online after. Also, a special screening on the big TV in Manchester's exchange square is due at the end of the month: details to follow.

Cheers! Remember: Don't pick your nose or your head'll cave in.

YOUR HEAD WILL CAVE IN.

*Excluding countless CrimeWatch appearances, granted.

DOUBLEJO(H)NGREY live set & DJ set
TVH3 live
Oscar Wildestlye (Modernaire) laptop set
National Forest DJ set

As the month draws to an end, it's time to head south of the City Centre for Lost & Broken.

Residents and Curators doublejo(H)ngrey bring you a host of frantic guests united by repetitive rhythms, distorted guitar, subhuman synths and a sense of foreboding.
Once again doublejo(H)ngrey will play both a live set and a DJ set of our own particular blend: a rock n roll, electronic, rub-a-dub, prog-rock rave.

Extra special guests for the evening are the legendary TVH3. Hosts of Manchester's sleaziest live music club Fiction Non Fiction at Tiger Lounge, TVH3 embody this city's dark underbelly. Buried in their suits they perform their intense set, with sounds reminiscent of Joy Division, Suicide and the darker side of Kraftwerk. Having not performed for almost nine months, they've written a whole new set for Lost & Broken an event not to miss at any cost (did I mention its free entry?).

Modernaire's beatmaster, the cult DJ Oscar Wildestyle is performing a live laptop set especially for Lost & Broken. Modernaire's music fuses melancholy electronic pop with tough, sometimes glitchy beats, fuzzy synths and female vocals. The Oscar Wildestyle mixtapes that have stormed the internet are a sparkling mix of disco, electro and mashed up hits.

Guest DJ for the night is National Forest, Faith & Hope's oddball beatman and one half of SirYesSir. His rawkus DJ sets cross all genres: House, rock, ragga, punk, funk and 2step.

As usual we've got our own particular style of monochromatic decor and visuals to add to the sinister atmosphere. Please don't be put off by the Private Party sign on the door, you're all invited. There's been some confusion with Pleasure but, despite the venue being closed for the rest of the month, they're opening specially for us. Think of it like a free party or a squat rave, but with a proper bar. Also, as it's your last chance to smoke in a pub EVER we'll be dishing out free fags, roll-ups and the cheapest cigars money can buy, along with the usual free exclusive CDs.

One last warning, please do get down early to avoid disappointment. We hate to turn people away, but when it's full, it's full.

Lost & Broken.
Saturday, 30th June.
Pleasure, Withington.
8pm 2am, Free entry.

If you asked most people which animal they'd most like to be for a day, not many would say "er, Sardine." Which is why I've got to apologise for those of you who squeezed into March's Lost & Broken. I promise we'll move more tables out next time. For those who couldn't get in at all, my deepest condolences also.

Our early DJ set was nothing if not diverse. Indie gems from Clinic, The Fall and Belle & Sebastian rubbed shoulders with Chicken Lips, Lee Scratch Perry, Wu Tang Clan and The Rapture. Even the request for Captain Beefheart was honoured with dignity. A surprise hit was Wishbone Ash's masterpiece "Warrior."

Laymar played an uncompromisingly loud set, lit only by Eisenstein's images of soviet maritimers. Cosmic guitar reverberations, rumbling sub-bass, frantic drumming and sheer sonic power. Somewhere between Gong, Mogwai, Joy Division and Boards of Canada. 'Ethereal' is a word too often thrown about by journalistic types, but here is inescapable.

Doublejo(H)ngrey, I was told, played one of our best sets to date. Maybe we were feeding off the energy of the packed room, or indeed the pulsing of the cheep strobes, but it certainly felt intense. A different set from last month, we played songs from Lost & Broken Recordings as well as the new favourite You Go, I'll Stay, a version of which we also gave away to 20 lucky individuals.

Jayne Compton's DJ set matched the upbeat mood to a tee, with funk from Liquid Liquid and disco punk from Mancunian favourites Valerie. Before we knew it Tommy Walker 3 was performing his set from an unusual elevation, ie, lying on the floor behind his laptop. Bleepy instrumental funk reminiscent of DMX Krew gave way to disco tinged house and lumpy techno.

From there on in it fades into glimmering trails. We hit the decks again until the very small hours, and I almost actually ran out of records. What can you do when the dancefloor's full for KLF's Dr Who? Crack out Higher State of Consciousness, Straight Outta Compton, There's Power in the Union, Organ Donor, Under me Sleng Teng, Youth Against Fascism and, if all else fails, Musical Youth's version of the Jim'll Fix It theme tune…

See you next month (in rich tomato sauce).

Following our successful maiden voyage last month we'd like to welcome you to the second instalment of Lost & Broken. It's Taking place once again at our new spiritual home, Pleasure in Withington, from 8pm till 2am, once again free entry. And, once again, have we got a treat in store for you this time? Well, once again, er, yes.

Having practiced both our DJ skills and live skills rigorously since February we're excited to be both DJing and playing again on Saturday. Our record boxes are even more bulging than last month. I've personally invested in some new Hot Chip remixes, a single with Rammellzee guest vocalising, and am working on a re-edit of a belting oldschool tune from The Hypnotist's "Night of the Living e-Heads" album. Danny informs me that his prog collection is expanding rapidly. Farny's rocking out as ever, obsessing over some obscure Mogwai or Sonic Youth album track. And John's unhealthy three pronged interest in Japanese eccentricities, nasty electro and morris dancing consistantly baffles and amazes. A mixed bag of a DJ set for your delight next time then. Let's hope the mixing's up to scratch as there's the possibility of recording the fucker for new ultra-eclectic net-radio site Nomad Radio. Keep tuned for the podcast.

As promised our live set's gonna be different this time (as it will be every month) with some tunes you'll know and some you won't. By popular request we're including the new tune "You go, I'll Stay" and, as always there'll be the lovely mix of breakbeat, indie, techno, prog-rock, dub and full-on RAVE. Since the success of "You go, I'll Stay" last month we've been working our odd, threadbare socks off to create a recording of it for the free CD. There's only gonna be 20 copies and it'll be the only place it's ever been released. Possibly even more epic than the live version it features soaring Sonic Youth influenced middle break and synth lines that'd make Mr Jarre actually shit himself (possibly). Bear in mind, the next time it surfaces it'll probably be very different so this version's Pure Gold (and i don't mean the poppers brand).

March's guests are a mixed bunch as intended. A band very much after our own heart are Laymar. They mix deep, dark synth scapes with digital rhythms, gigantic guitars, bowel clenching bass and live drums. Somewhere between Gong, Joy Division and Autechre, if you get me, but with more extreme facial hair. A genuinely unique band who deserve their imminant record deal much more than many i've heard.

Tommy Walker 3 writes "Machine driven sex music." In layman's terms that means electro, techno, house and disco with a deep root of funk and the boing-click-fizz of cheap drum machines. With past releases for several northern indies (including, of course, Twisted Nerve) and a recent signing to Human Sheild, TW3's future's bright. His live laptop sets have been honed with many a gig round Manchester, York and london, including regular appearences at my favourite Mancunian rave Sequence. Oddly, Tommy Walker 3 also sports wild facial hair on stage.

Jayne Compton is founder of Islington Mill's massive Club Brenda night, as well as Switchflicker Records and, as far as i remember, doesn't have any odd facial hair. Club Brenda's playlist focuses on the dancefloor but blurs out the genres. Switchflicker's roster includes performance artists, poets and punk bands. Expect a conglomeration of the two and you might not be far wrong.

I'm sure you're wondering when i get the time to write all this just for a blog. The answer is simple. The Night Shift. It's great fun. I'm on one now. I suppose i'd better go and do some work...

Peace, G.

Just a quick note to say cheers to y'all who cmae down to Green room on Wednesday and Dry bar on thursday. Hippocamp (Manchester's leftfield electronica net label) somehow thought it'd be a good idea for us to DJ between acts at their showcase night on Wendnesday. Between Quip, Unknown Forces and Corporate Athlete we played tunes by Fridge, Hot Chip, Nick Cave, Kraftwerk, Electralene, Josh Wink ('96 remixes no less!), Mulato Astatke and, er Doublejo(H)ngrey (Testrack remix). Oh, and the theme tune from HHGG. A great time was had by all. Top visuals from Cycloptic and Bobb Wass.

Last night, after a gruelling day at work, we played live at Dry Bar with our nemeses Viva Stereo. A cracking set from the Scottish lads (unfortunately in direct competition with their pal Malcolm Middleton) then our filth. Congratulations those of you taking pills on a school night (you know who you are), I hope it was worth it...

So I raise a glass to the Hippocamp lot, the Vivas, Beat Bromotions and of course the unflagging fans. G

Ok, I think it's safe. Open your eyes. Take your fingers out of your ears. It's over.

The first enormous instalment of Lost & Broken was a screaming success. Thanks to all you lot who graced the dance floor and feasted on the sonic and visual buffet. Buffet? Nay, banquet. For those of you whose illicit consumption got the better of your memory banks, let's recap.

doublejo(H)ngrey started the metaphorical ball rolling by playing a delicate selection from their multiple record boxes. No stone was left unturned. Contributors included Neil Young, Polysics, Pink Floyd, At The Drive In, Two Lone Swordsmen, Blackbeard's Allstars, Clinic, Sonic Youth, Wishbone Ash, Melt Banana and Black Devil Disco Club. The set built to a climax in preparation for the delights to come.

Mister Fist lived up to Manchester Music's quote, "first degree bass rape," with a set to separate the wheat from the chaff. Showcasing tunes from their new release ''Semi-Normal" they built a wall of hissing, biting, melancholy chaos to rival the likes of Mogwai or Sonic Youth at their fiercest. They even had audience members so frenzied that they dived into the drum-kit. I mean, they didn't even know the cunt. Of course the drummer was furious, but, it seems, that's the effect of the Fist sound.

The strobe lights strobed and Dr Caligari and Nosferatu loomed across the back wall. Meanwhile, Jon Du Nord span Can, Hawkwind and Electralene to maintain the fever.

doublejo(H)ngrey took to the stage with their trademark, bass-heavy opener "All Greetings are Goodbyes," and followed through (like much of the audience) in a slightly chaotic version of broadcast, grinding to a halt mid song, to be greeted by a new stranger with a dub rhythm and chopping synth and guitar lines. The epic "You Go, I'll Stay" gave way to meaty dance floor favourite "I Should Be Your King," finally descending into the incontinent, uninhibited rave of "Crippled Feet."

The carnival rolled on with Penguin Map Majinko's pumping J-pop rhythms and an ode to Tom Waits. Imagine if Lawrence from Denim had lived most of his life in Japan, maybe above a karaoke bar, or in the foundations of Takeshi's castle. Confused but intrigued, the audience were left begging for more. Elementary.

From there on it's really a blur. Some DV camera footage exists, but mainly just shows slowly pulsing strobes and undulating silhouettes. Snatches of "Rhythm is a Dancer" and jerking guitar from Uberstompf's resident Jon Du Nord, struggling to make out the labels on his 12"s in the gloom. Spilt drinks and burned lips. Cracked microphones and empty wraps littered the floor.

In the slightly tongue in cheek words of Mister Fist's frontman, "Bring on the drugs. Fuck the System!"

Indeed. See y'all next month.

Having taken a month or two off to celebrate the birth of Our Lord with decadence and debauchery aplenty, we're proud to present our latest dastardly scheme. Our new night "Lost & Broken"launches on Saturday 24th February at Pleasure in Withington, with a sonic ejaculation that'll swamp the whole of South Manchester with a creamy, white broth of pure menacing noise. The first in our series of six night-time experiments features the following evil scientists of aural torture:

doublejo(H)ngrey,if you don't know already, play electronic rock n roll with pulsating veins of psychedelic fuzz and rub-a-dub sub-bass. Hosts for the evening – ringmasters and ringleaders – we'll be both DJing and playing live.

Mister Fist make unrelenting, punishing guitar noise with a deep melodic undercurrent. Think Mogwai at the peak of their intensity, with theadded timbres of a physically brutalised analogue synth.

Penguin Map Majinko is the electronic J-pop pseudonym of Faith & Hope's Shirokuma. Usurping musical convention with a cheery wave and a cheeky electronic 'bleep' an eccentric laptop set to move your feet and twang your heartstrings.

Jon Du Nord runs London's premier dinosaur themed clubnight,Uberstompf, out of various rotten holes including a former members-only jazz club and a run down bowling alley. Host to the BigSmoke's seediest rock n roll, punk and garage bands, Uberstompf play list favourites include the likes of Sonic Youth and The Fall. But for Lost & Broken Jon's lugging up a crate full of Krautrock and early 90s rave.

Filling the gaps like pungent solvent based grout, doublejo(H)ngrey will beplaying our favourite dub, prog-rock, Beefheart, disco, dubstep and Billy Bragg records.

See you bright and early, from 8pm. It's bound to be bursting at the seams by the time the first band goes on, and those lucky enough to be in the first 20 through the door get a free CD with exclusive Doublejo(H)ngrey tracks (unavailable ANYWHERE else, including myspace) and tasty titbits from the guests too. Those who can still walk will probably leave around 2am, minds spinning at the catastrophic yet impeccable beauty they have witnessed.

Bleurgh…roll on next month….
