We are pleased to announce the 7th Annual Charity Golf Classic, benefiting the Child Development Institute (CDI) on Friday October 3rd, 2008, at the Lost Canyons Golf Club in Simi Valley, California. Each year the Annual Charity Golf Classic generates funding for the ongoing efforts of CDI to expand its outreach and assist more families in need of special care. Join us again this year to continue CDI's efforts to "Build the Dream". We will also be hosting a Live and Silent and Online Auction to coincide with this event. The online auction will be hosted by Charity Folks http://www.charityfolks.com.

We are honored to introduce one of University of Notre Dame's true inspirational stories; our keynote speaker and 2008 Honoree, Mr. Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger. Against all odds on a gridiron in South Bend, Indiana, Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger in twenty seven seconds, carved his name into history books as perhaps the most famous graduate of the University of Notre Dame. When people say dreams don't come true, you will tell them about Rudy.

The Siddha system says the human body both the physical and the subtle is made up of 72,000 veins and nerves and 7 vital nerve centres (Chakras) along the route of the spinal cord.

The three important being Sun, Moon and Fire, the 10 vital airs (Prana) and 10 vital nerves (Nadis). Out of the ten vital nerves (Nadis) the first three namely Idakalai (Moon) Pingalai (Sun) and Suzhumunai (Spinal) play an important role in the technique and prolongation of life.

Siddhars maintain that voluntary control of breathing is possible to a certain extent and that it will lead us to porlong our life span. The process of respiration in which oxygen is inhaled into the living cells and carbon-dioxide is exhaled from them is a fundamental phenomenon of life which is universally present in every type of living organism. The respiratory centre that regulates rythmic muscular contractions concerned with breathing is known as Medulla.

Siddhars hold that the subtle air (Prana) begins at the centre of Lalada, passes through the Chitra or Chandra Nadi, jumps into sacral plexus with the sound `ov' and Navel plexus with the sound `av' where from it enters into Idakalai and Pingalai nerves with the sound `Sav' and circles the cerebrum and finally enters into nostrils charging out at a length of 12 inches and with drawing only 8 inches inside at the same time, thus loosing in the process 4 inches. This goes on repeating itself in the act of breathing.

A part of the energy that ought to have entered the body is lost in every process of respiration and thereby the normal life span of 120 years is considerably reduced.

The normal rate of breathing of a modern man may accordingly be calculated upto 61,600 in a day. On account of this, modern man loses much of his energy in excessive breathing and his life span is also considerably reduced.

Siddhars have developed the science of breathing which helps to assimilate the full energy needed by the body for the purpose of living a life free from decay and diseases.

Tirumantram is one of the important works in Tamil dealing with the science of life. It is the outcome of Tirumular's love and desire that mankind should share the fruits of his valuable experience attained during his Yoga supposed to have been practised for three thousand years.

Technorati Profile

Any yoga aids him to abandon the way of life which is governed by ignorance. Yoga assists him in concentration of his mind to attain the highest object of illumination. Yoga means the union with the Divine.

My profile shows that I am a siddha physician and I know it isn't very common so I thought I would try to do a little explaining on the subject. When I started studying siddha medicine I didn't even know anyone in the USA who had even heard about it and any reading material on the subject, was just a paragraph here and there.

My training is traditional, meaning information is passed down from parent to child or teacher to student, with a couple of supplemental postgrad degrees on the subject.

Siddha medicine has roots going back thousands of years, and claims to be the oldest medical system in the world. {But then other medical systems claim that about themselves also} The siddha system uses herbal and salt (mineral) remedies in their medicines. This is a holistic system putting high emphasis on diet and lifestyle. It has several diagnosis options a couple of the more interesting being, pulse reading and tridosha.

The human body is conditioned by Thrithoshas (three humours) consisting of Vatha, Pittha and kapha (Wind, Bile and Phlegm). They rule over the human body like three monarchs. Vatha or wind resides in the fiery region, pittha or Bile in the solar region and kapha or phlegm in the lunar region. A balance of the three in some form is always present within our bodies. All sickness and disease is due to an imbalance of the three. Treatments are meant to bring the three tridoshas into balance.

Pulse reading, measures this balance, for different organs of the body. By knowing how each organ is balanced according to energy, air, and fluids, a treatment can be devised using diet or medication to bring each into balance. Pulse reading can take years to accomplish.

Siddha medicine is said to have come down from Lord Shiva to the siddhars, hence its claim to being the oldest.

Man can choose his evolution in different ways. One direction is
toward domination and as a warrior and the other toward peace,
understanding and knowledge.

Man is also in a position for the first time in history, to
choose his own fate with destruction from war genetic
manipulation of animal and plant life, or the loss of nature.

The difference in the domination and growth  of man lies in the
chemical changes in the body, caused by a peaceful existance.
Those striving for peace band together to dominate over
terrorists, or the easily angered. Primate cultures are 50 times
more prone to violence because the primates lack the skills to
dominate over those prone to violence.  Man's evolution has been
guided by the opposing traits of violence and knowledge. With
violence we can gain control over others in the short term.
Getting them to do our bidding for us and gaining power and
riches in the short term. This short sighted approach is what
created several countries and political powers we still have
today and some still use anger to control their actions.

With knowledge we can gain power through technology and a
balance of nature but this takes numbers to move ahead since the
violent try to rule over what they see as weakness. Over the
centuries knowledge and information has been suppressed and
destroyed. To keep the masses from gaining control. As has been
done in the dark ages.

No other time in history has man been able to change his course
so easily. We all know of nuclear warfare and cloning. But as we
are still tied to this earth, we can easily change our balance
of nature with genetic engineering and the changing of weather
patterns. As our ecological diversity shrinks so also does our
future chances for prosperity. We are now at the pinnacle of
prosperity partially due to overuse of our natural resources.
How we choose to continue is up to us.

With the two opposing traits of violence and knowledge we must
look at the long term view and gain a balance of each. To have
peace we must protect and defend it. To gain knowledge we must
be aware that knowledge can be used both ways. To avoid the
extinction of man either slowly or quickly we have to stand
firmly against those who are trying to dominate us and to use
knowledge to return to a harmony with nature.

The next 100 years will probably see less natural resources
available to us, causing more anger and frustration leading to
more violence. It is our charge to dominate over those prone to
violence and use a base of knowledge to overcome our own
difficulties. The fate of the Easter Island culture is an
example of where we are headed as a planet. The Easter Islanders
cut down all their trees in a power grab over each other, and in
turn couldn't make boats to fish and feed themselves. Our urges
and desires are the same as theirs today. That is why we need to
change our own consciousness.

I see our situation on this planet as someone who gets a
paycheck once a month and has everything spent in two weeks. If
we can't make it last 5 weeks we are only getting behind.

Current mood:  tired

As the moon marches through the sky waning and waxing through its phases, pushing and pulling on the oceans of the earth. Gliding through the sky, endlessly circling us coming into view and out of sight as a comforting nighttime friend. Our very being is influenced by the push-pull of the moons gyrations within us. So also the ebb and flow of our interstitial fluids push and pull against the cells within our bodies in the same way as the gravitational pull against the earth. All forces pulling toward one of the six directions (N-S-E-W-UP-DOWN). When we turn around the effect is reversed. This is the effect of the macrocosm on our bodies. The macrocosm can be loosly defined as the larger picture.

A more subtle movement is also at play within the rotation of the moon on our bodies. This is known by the ancients as milk of the moon. This movement controls the flow of life-force within our bodies. As the New moon comes into view the life force in our bodies is most prominent in one of our feet and slowly rises up one side of our body, until it reaches the head at the full moon. This is when some people start to howl at the moon or when lunacy is most prominent.

As the full moon wanes, the life force also drops down the other side of our body to the other foot where it is ready to begin the cycle again. Creating the microcosm of the galaxy within us. Influencing our feelings and emotions as the elements of life within us revolves through our being.

Since I'm using the man in the moon as my myspace pic. I thought I would start blogging about the moon. Is it just a rock in the sky, or is it something that subtly pushes and controls our lives? Is it a miniscule object in the vast universe or is it just a few hundred feet out of our reach?

I know the sun is the source of life on this planet but the moon seems to have control over knowledge and feelings. It is the subject of many romantic writings, a fascination to watch, even though it's just a rock in the sky (or is it made of cheese). It's a great thing to howl at when full. Some of us are likened to the moon when we are called lunatics and lunacy happens at the full moon.

Some worship the sun, but my day job starts at 11 PM so I seem to relate to the moon and its phases and cycles. My medical studies relate the moon to the flow of lifeforce within the body and within yoga, energy flows through lunar channels also.

My achievements are expected to reach for the moon Some can lasso the moon or shoot the moon or wait for a cow to jump over the moon. If you would rather, just moon someone.

Some say we have been to the moon, to find out if it is made of cheese. Some say the trips were all rigged. Some even say it is an alien base constructed for the purpose. Makes no difference to me though. The fascination of the moon still holds my interest even though I tend to think of it as being a little more than throwing distance away from me.
