TALES FROM LUCI'S JOURNAL- Luci summons Syd by sundream!
I was standing outside one winter night, staring at the snow particles before me. They were very fine and manouvered ever so slightly around each other in the light breeze. Falling, climbing and swooping, I was amazed as I fixated on the patterns they made. No two particles moved the same through the air but their randomness seemed planned somehow. Inspired, I directed my pondering to humans and where there are signs of this same visual uniqueness. Instantly I thought of our fingerprints. No two are alike and they seem to flow with the same swirling patterns I was looking at. I thought 'what kind of energy must occur for our fingerprints to form such designs?' Millions of years of evolution upon the human brain, receiving and transmitting information with our hands as our tool, has left the imprint of art upon our fingers. We must have been using them for something creative, and we have. Most of the creative things we do these days (writing, painting, playing an instument, building, sculpting,) have been accomplished with our fingers as the primary tool. Assisting in your mind's desire for creation. An example would be a painter painting a landscape in front of him. The flow of energy goes into their eyes, to the mind, to the heart or spirit, back to the mind, down the arm to the fingers, and out the brush onto the paper. Mostly in transmitting that flow of creative energy, from wherever it comes from, we have formed what we now use as our identity. But this is not a scientific fact by any means (yet haha), just a thought I thought you Lucidreamers might like to give thought to.
As for the band, we are all like the snowflakes. Made of the same stuff (music power), and each containing ditinctive shapes; we will fly in all different directions until we melt this spring. Then we will reform in the groundwater and eventually flow to the Pacific Ocean (even though the water flows east from Calgary- but don't worry, we'll make it up those mountains) There, we will meet; and make Wonderful Music tm.
Also we have contacted the preternatural through EVP and they said they liked our music.
In conclusion I will leave you with a quote: "Music you're, music you're the key. Talk to who, please talk to me" - Bob Marley. It's more a lyric than a quote I guess, but it's a gooder!
Well, keep it fresh and on the flip-side and I'll see ya on the slip-side and all that other jazz. And next time you look at your fingerprints remember your creative- side.
OneLove

Current mood: relaxed
Category: Music
"Don't trade your wings in for a reason to fly"… that's what I always say… don't question it… I don't know what it means… just write it down, put it in a coffee filter and let boiling water run through it… and when the concoction of confusion and whispered wisdom is ready… drink it…. Lets just see what happens.
Well my friends, as of late, LuciDream has been working hard… like an introverted-past-due-pregnant-beluga-whale, we have been keeping to ourselves and giving birth to big things. Poor Luci has been pregnant for about 6 years and in labor for 3 months as she pushed out two new songs: Hungry Ghosts and St. Clare… Hungry Ghosts seems to be the extroverted one of the two, the first-child-commanding-attention sort of thing, while St. Clare is the shy but deeply passionate second child, begging for someone to listen to her but doubting that anyone will truly understand her pain. Both songs are still in the beginning phases (just recently cut the umbilical) and we look forward to seeing them bloom into beautiful breathing works of art as they begin to discover themselves.
We have had an ENORMOUS amount of interest from people and companies you only hear about on the Grammies… Record Labels and Producers from Los Angeles have been filling our inbox and voice mails with requests of music… it has been exciting to say the least. Its quite the feeling to know that our music is beginning to reach beyond our own city… we been receiving emails from the UK and Australia letting us know how much they connect with the music, And, perhaps as a result of our tour through the states, it would appear that we are receiving more orders for music from California than from our own city of Calgary… don't worry Calgary, you've already paid your dues.
The migration of LuciDream has begun! My partner in poetry and vocals, Cara-May (Femme-Shui to the historian), has moved to the city of Vancouver. Although it may be a few more months before the rest of the LuciDream Clan make such a bold move, a move shall indeed be made. Where you may ask? The bards of LuciDream plan to pinpoint the location where our music is most needed and thus best received, once the location is identified we'll be out faster than that guy who got popped over the head with a microphone by Josh Martinez at the Sambuca Lounge… hopefully the place where our music is most needed is also next to an ocean and beaches begging for bonfires and drum circles.
Well that's it for now my friends. Keep your eyes open for many upcoming changes on the website and MySpace page… we will posting random behind the scene LuciDream videos, opening a LuciDream forum, and doing a 101 things to make you smile.
I've always loved reading quotes and inspirational speeches from past leaders, philosophers, and strangers… but I find the words that hold the most weight, the sentences that surely the most thought and the least 'human politics' can be found in, are those words utter at the time of death, the words that kiss the speaker's lips good bye… so let me end with some last words… and may we always treat our words as if they were our last. Yours in creation and the madness we call home, -Jordan Manuel (to the Now seekers), Concept (to the historians), Amadeus Time (to the clairvoyant) .
Now for the quote:
"I don't know." -Abelard, Peter (1079-1142)
Peter Abelard was the most noted philosopher of the first half of the 12th century. He spent many years as a teacher of philosophy and is credited with establishing the University of Paris. Abelard's consistently questioning methods of teaching irritated the Church, and his writings were banned for much of his life.

Chapter 6 - Tales of the Bay.....
Sept 18th.... We sailed into San Fran the night of the 18th and ended up on the main interstate (which strongly resembled every level from sonic the hedgehog this author has ever played.) Paranoide Pete who was whitenuckling the steering wheel decided he need to be done with this hellish driving. It was time to pull over for the night. We took some random directions from Bread Beard and ended up in front of a small Irish Pub. Luci went in for a Pint. This pint directly influenced the next ten days in San Fran. In drinking that pint Luci met the nice bartender lass from the pub three shops down... she told us they had an open mic the next day and signed us up on the spot. That night we slept in front of the pub.... There was very tired rejoycing.
Sept 19th Luci went to the pub to do the open mic. There was only about 10 people in the bar, Luci rocked it all the same.... That night we met Donna Rose and Marko Swave', much much love to these two, they helped create the rest of the San Fran experiance. Donna and Marko pointed out a open mic for the next night.
Sept 20th. The open mic at The Canvas was awsome... Donna and Marko came to check it again and invited some friends..... They introduced us to Rudy (the Lead singer for the Stollin Rones (Rolling Stones cover band), and hotel owner....Rudy set us up for free in a collage dormetory for the next week and a half.....
Sept 21st The Rocket Room - Awsome show... .played with some great bands namely 'Vial Conondrum'..... we also met Bob, Bob was big..... Big Bob loved music and threw a $100 paper airplane at us from the audiance..... Luci loves Big Bob... one of a kind guy.... Big Bob fell asleep in the seat of a back hoe tractor at the end of the night... Big Bob is a one of a kind guy.... its kinda a long story.....
sept 22 - 30th The rest of the week was filled with many a open mic, the 'Love Fest' rave in downtown square, one shooting witnessed by Saggy Bottoms and Paranoid Pete, one gig at the Sweet Water, one conversation with an old getleman who makes guitars out of toillete seats, lots of wine, one rough rough morning, one life saving of a snoop doggish gentleman named carl lewis who was deathly allerigic to peanutbutter... good looking out Paranoid Pete, one pair of sandles ruined, one pair of high top sneakers forged out of packing tape and ruined sandles, two amazing individuals named Donna Rose and Marco Swave', and finally one author getting lazy on his pirate narritive blog... I'm sorry I'll do me best not to slip up again....
Wich brings us too where we are now, We woke up this morning and The great ship 'Sylvia's Mother' (the Suberban) has been towed to the impound lot while we were sleeping..... bastards!!! Bread beard and paranoid Pete went to retrieve it they should be back soon.....
Sylvia's Mother is home... Ramathorn has fallen... The Jolly roger flys half mast.... were off to Sacremento.....
Sept 31st. The last night of the adventure before we head home.... We spent it rocking out with Buffalo and Nali from Hear Life and Soul..... two stand up, life grappling, belly bustin pirates.... if anyone meets these kids sometime along the line, the least you can do is make em a sandwich or take em on a boat ride or something. they deserve no less....
Oct 1st.. Driving home its almost done.....

Chapter 5 - The Temeculan Treasury and the Microfilm of the Jade Monkey.
Sept 13 - 17th We rolled into Temecula late the night previous and set up shop at a local RV park. Snuck in like ninja's we did.... floated in on the wind.... the tooth filled grin of the Jolly Roger could be seen billowing in the clouds like a smokey pirate batman symbol.... We rolled into the film festival dressed in the proper pirate atire.... the opening ceramonies were quite strange yarggg.... We were drivin in vintage cars too a red carpet in front of the theatre. When we were released, they annouced are name and we walked down the carpet to the theatre. A mic toting host stopped us pirates and asked us something that only Cara May was close enough to hear. She answered... as the mic was passed around the rest of us played off her answer, wich in turn created a string of answers that steadily had less and less of anything to do with the origonal question.... yargghhh it was beautiful....
Over the course of the next five days, many a excellent movie was scene, many a wonderful person met, many a contact made, many a musical gift extended. The pirates of Luci D were adopted by a lovely radio host and her husband (Serene and Dale), bless there souls for taking care of a crew of such scruffy kids. Serene set us up with an hour spot on the radio and Dale is just the man... period.
Notable Mention: 'THE LITTLE DEATH' If any one gets the chance to see this movie.... see it!! more info on this flick soon...
Both shows Luci played in the Festival were bang up. The acoustic set landed us second page feature in the local paper...The main show was amazing, much thanks to Tim Moyer... Luci recieved a standing ovation.... There was much rejoycing.....
Shameless Name Dropping: It was ensured by Paranoid Pete and Cara May that President David Palmer (24) is now listining to the sounds of Luci D.

Chapter 4: Nevada.... The beatings will continue until crew moral increases
Sept 9th.... Luci sails through desserts of Nevada.... Today we passed through the creepiest town in the North America, the front lawn displayed unmentionably disturbing dummies hanging from trees, followed by equally disturbing murals of skeletons on abandon sandstone buildings. As much as pirates love the macabre.... Luci did not stop in this town.... at the next town, we got our first taste of Nevada slot machines in the local gas station... They were so convenient!!
A few hours and one very wrong turn later we had descended 4000 ft. into the heart of DEATH VALLY!!!! A beautiful place really, if you enjoy things like frying eggs in the sand and getting bitten in the ear hole by rattlesnakes.... the climb out of the the hottest hot place on earth, took us about 6 hours, driving at excess speeds of about 15 km an hour, overheating every 3-5 minutes with 10 minutes cool down breaks inbetween.... crew moral sank a little this afternoon....
8 hours later we hit land in Vegas.... Flashing lights and everything.... there was much rejoycing.... We slept in the parking lot of a very grande casino that night. We woke up the next morning to the hottest sweat box of a 5 person packed trailer in Nevada, and a security guards eviction notice with kind directions to a local RV park.
The RV park was the classiest most resortish place this author had ever been.... pools, mini golf, and palm trees..... and mini golf.... with an open invitation to go lose money right down the street .... not to shabby... old bootstrap would be proud....
The night ensued was filled with suprizes and lots of robbed dignity.... Cara may cashed out of the 25 cent slots with $1.86, the author cashed out with $0.82 on the 2 cent slots, Manuel the Phylisophical Mutalator was not so lucky, but the kids got heart.... Paranoid Pete and Breadbeard Syd had gone on their own adventure....
Manuel the Phylisophical Mutalator, Cara May and ol Saggy Bottoms went vegas walking down the strip, bottles of wine in hand..... We passed a gangster looking hustler pirate who offered his services/products, the offer was appreciativly declined and we carried on our sossy way.... followed close behind by the gangster hustler pirate..... we carried along for several blocks with the huslter rapscallion trailing close behind.... I would be lieing if I said the experiance wasn't sketchy as hell... after a while we pulled up at a red light and the pirate stalker walked right by us and across the street.... relieved, we finished our bottles and made our way to NEWYORK NEWYORK..... an hour later, after losing what little dignity we had left we made our way back out side. We started down the tall steps looking out to the street and guess who the first person we saw was.... Hustling stalker pirate #1.... yargh..... he was doing his thing in the middle of the intersection.... as soon as we saw him, he saw us. The eye contact created the strangest situation that no one could deny.... almost simuntaniously everyone (Cara-May, Manuel, Saggy Bottoms, and Hustling Gangster Pirate Stalker #1) all threw up their hands yarrrggghhhh!... like we had all just reunited with an old friends they hadn't seen in years. His name was Norrris, Norris was equally stoked to see us! Norris turned out to be the man.... Luci chilled with Norris for the rest of the night... there was much rejoycing....
Sept 10th... Luci sets sail to Temecula. 8 hours into the blisteringly hot and painfully slow journy Sylvia's Mother has some issues.... She was angry with us.... she was pissed.... she was steaming from the damb engine.... the radiator hose had melted a hole and was spraying coolent everywhere.... So again we're stuck in the desert.... but this time we're not in the Death Vally, we were in the Devils Kitchen!! Yes.... the irony runs thick. it was a good thing Breadbeard Syd and Paranoid Pete and studied magiver and were able to jimmy rig the engine by cutting the coolent hose, fastening it to a snorkel, eating a slice of watermelon, yelling at a lizard until it was offended enough to bite Paranoid Pete, who then grew into a possibly probable, paranoid enough rage to crush the car and trailer together with his bare hands and moulded them into a rocket ship. Any smoldering scrap metel left over after the ship was man mashed together... Pete ate..... with the ship now good as new Luci made her way to Nittles aka Nipples.
Nittles is a little desert town population - Nipples. In tribute too the town, duct tape was worn over some of the Luci crew members nipples and a half a group photo was taken in front of the '128 square miles of grade A tortous Country' sign. There was much rejoycing
14 hours after we left vegas on what was supposed to be an 8 hour journey, we made it to temecula... ground zero......

Chapter 3: The Heart Life and Soul of Sacramento.....
Sept 7th.... Luci plays Roseville with BONFIRE and NATURAL ROOTS..... Luci sends her pirate love to both.
Sept 8th tonight Luci had the honour of sharing the stage with an utterly amazing crew of pirates "HEART LIFE AND SOUL" (myspace.com/heartlifeandsoul) for an unbelievable show at the 'Club Car', in Auburn, Cal. A beautiful venue, incredible audiance, and overall amazing musical experiance. HLS tore cannonball size holes in time with two non-stop bone shaking sets that surely made Davy Jones rap dance on top of his locker. From Buffalo's cheak crushing vocals and doubletime freestyles, too Lady Grace's sirine enchanting voice and heart stopping poetry, thunder thumbs Nali ripping peoples lives in half on the bass, Moss Man just doing his thing, and Dr. Colt giving the universe a new perception of hand percussion, kit, vocals, and surely any other musical instrument he gets his hands on... and he does all this while saving the trees of the world from their ailements... he is the Lorax..... These kids kill it, check them out, hear them, love them, see them... shake there hands even.... big things to come from these cats..... One Love.

Chapter Two - Seattle Swashbucklers
Sept, 1st Our first show was at the Showbox, we were to playing with ...a plethora of seattles best bands.... but after a fierce 8 hour battle with the boarder guards, Luci was set a peg leg back in her travelling schedule... the boarder guards now carry a heavy pirate curse on their padded sholders....
Luci pulls into port 11pm.... Seattle, Washington.... a beautiful city it is..... Luci loves it..... We were making our way to the Venue when a deffening noise began abusing our ears it was roaring from sylvia herself (our trailer). A quick glance out the porthole revieled that a tire had exploded and we were sailing on the rim (see pictures). So with 10 minutes till show time, Paranoid Pete hoisted the trailer and attacked the spare tire lock with a rusty hammer, as we had not the key... His efforts were not in vain, the tire was changed but it seemed this show was not meant to be.... Crew moral was still high though a little shaken.... all in all we had made it to Seattle and across the boarder, wich was indeed the first and largest obstical ... there was much rejoycing....
Sept 2, Today Luci played the "The Tractor Tavern" with seattle locals RED NOTE and SEEING BLIND... Twas a grande show, all the bands played like true pirates, Luci loves all of ya's....
On a side note, the author made temporary acquaintences with a very large fellow who spoke much like Michel Jackeson and bore a strong resemblance to the late Notorious BIG. He epxressed a strong love for music.... specifically, Gladis Night and the Pips.... cool shit.... The author became a little unerved when the large fellow became confused and kind of irritated that the author didn't want him to phone Calvin for party treats.... the author knows not a calvin nor his treats.... the aquaintanceship ended soon there after....and there was much rejoycing....
Notible mentions: Pirate respects go out to Noah and his fortune, anyone who loves music should check out this man (myspace.com/noahsfortune) amazing jazz guitar and soul music...
Sept 3rd.... Today Luci aquired the 6th member of the band, the one who holds it alltogether by the rugged ways of the pirate code.... THE JOLLY ROGER..... the flag took its menacing place of birth right flying from the antenna of Sylvia's Mother.... In celebration of the occasion Luci spent the day eating garlic, drinking grog, and making babies cry....
Sept 4th.... Today Luci shared the stage at the Central Saloon with the 1203 and Paula Maya. A truly incredible occasion....
Sept 5th. Luci's Last day in Seattle.... It was spent on many a runabouts and last minute demo get dones.... wich almost all of got dones.... a couple wrong turns, a couple skillfully executed backward trailer back outs.... a couple lessons in traffic control.... a couple piraty skewers....
We took one wrong turn on our way to Bumbershoot Music Festival into the narrowest one lane straight Luci had seen thus far.... Ships (cars) lining both sides of the road and just barely enough room for the great Sylvia's Mother (the suberban) to sail though. The straight ended in a T intersection, so we chose right.... turned out right was an even narrower straight then the previous. Now we were wedged half way around a corner.... the suberban between a wall and another row of cars, the trailer not being able to make the tight turn do to a jeep parked on the corner.... we had absoloutly no way to back out, move forward, or manuver down the left side of the T intersection.... We tryed the Austin powers back and forth manouver for about 20 minutes. Our efforts were fruitless as a scurvy ridden Saint Bernaurd. The hoard of hippie pirates drinking on the steps watching us, thought it was hilarious. After they'd had there fill of our struggle situation, the good lads volunteered their backs and and a little drunkain brains and joined forces with Luci D to form the most powerful jeep lifting horde of pirates Seattle has ever encountered..... yarghhhh.... after the jeep was clearly out of the way and now taking up most of the sidewalk, Sylvias's Mother squeezed though. The newly formed powerful pirate horde recessed with beer too the vary steps they had first risen from..... and there was MUCH rejoycing.... The gods of the sea smile on you villinously helpful hippies.... Luci is in your debt....
Luci raises anchor and sets sail to Sacramento....

Chapter One - Dirtnap Details and the Vancouver Endulgement.....
Augest 24th, It was a beautiful morning when the Crew of Luci D castes sails on Sylvia's Mother (the Suberban AKA Pirate Ship) and departed from the motherland (Cowtown). There was Breadbeard Beagle (Syd), Paranoid Pete, the beautiful maden Cara-May (she be the most deceavingly, devious, dangerous, dame in all the America's... like a siren she is), Manuel the phylisophical mutalator, Ramathorn the Parrot and ol Saggy Bottoms (Jon - the current author). It was an exciting and tedious departure, I joined the rest of the crew soon afterwards and we set out on a very slow up hill journy through the rugged mountains of the Okonogan.... The wind was against us, gravity hated us... but the trees were real pretty... yarhhh.
Augest 25th, We arrived in Vancouver at 6 am, wine in belly, crew moral high and everyone a little bit more in the know about the dreaded MPV (Monkey Papalova Virus). We ransacked Dirtnap Details's (a fellow scallywag) swank apartment and rested our swashbuckeling heads for a few hours..... That night Luci D Pillaged the Blarney Stone, the show was celibratory.... and there was MUCH rejoycing......
Augest 26th, Not much happened today.... Cara-May and Soggy bottoms ate delectible sushi.... it was followed up by a sacking of the local bubble tea pusher, wich was followed by a hour long session of trying to juggle tapioka balls using only ones mouth.... wich was followed up by singing a jingle about rohipnol raindeer.... the raindeer of ill intentions.... and finally a very twisted conversation about eating small children.... and there was much rejoycing....
Augest 27th, Today was a glorious day. We took the opportunity to pillage "the Buffalo" with melodies. It was kegstand mondays and the staff had set up a mini half pipe in the pit of the bar.... the pirates were singing, the kids were drinkin and the skaters were doing what they do best. It was a beautiful sight for the sorest of eyes.
I must take this moment to reckognize the brave young lady who led a full out personal pirate assault against that 5 foot monster of a half pipe.... Miss, you took a beating but kept getting back up and in the end, you took home all the booty and a bottle of rum.... Ya fought a bravely battle and ya came out on top..... Luci dance's a pirate jig in your honour.... two pints of grog be raised to ya....
Saggy bottoms got a mighty drunk.... and there was MUCH MUCH rejoycing....
Later this sossy evening, we were pulled over in Sylvia's Mother and given a stern talking to and a chubby yellow fine for embarking on an old pirate game of "Deliniator Chaisers"..... YARRGGHH We flattened the shit out of those pylons. Unfortunatly the police couldn't understand that we are pirates and thats what we do.... we chase Deliniators.....
Augest 28th... A sossy morning ensude, Luci's heads hurt....
