.. ..

I remember being young,

I remember thinking no one had a clue

I remember thinking i was the smartest, best invention since slice toast

There was me, my friends,

and like everyone

there was of course  no one in the group who could say

anyone our age

none of us could describe, let alone follow through

“much like in my later days”

 no one got us right

Of course who could J

We all sat around quoting these movies though,

And all of us without saying of course

 knew

 there wasn’t just these lines

There was music

There were these songs

there were these anthems that to this day I hear and all I can do is dance

there was the way these movies looked

there was the way they talked

and I clearly remember thinking..

 how one day

and how one day we would all write that next great track

.. ..

being young of course

there was something there that made this seem feasible

made it seem like dreams could play

maybe because it was all handled so nonchalant

or maybe simply

because he knew exactly what to say

went to the apple show last night in santa monica and took some pictures
was a very fun night,
having seen roger play many times throughout my life it was great to see him so animated and happy while performing,
the songs were beautiful live, and erin (the best vocalist around btw) was amazing,
also gotta say,
i never knew roger was such a funny speaker,

i suggest everyone go and pick it up, but do yourself a favor and grab a copy of brightness falls to read first,
jays a very classic and animated reader, which made for a terrific evening that was fun and thoughtful,
also ran into mr bret easton ellis (who was as suave as ever) and had a great chat,

i'm joined here today by someone who needs no introduction, sean padraic o'day, and as im sure anyone whos reading this knows, today is the day of release

james-
sean first off congratulations on the release, its a big day for you thanks for taking this time.

sean-
thank you, i now realize just how important time is and will always be willing to make some for my fellow man. it's like a wise man once said: "you gotta have faith a faith a faith"

james-
lets start off with release, whats it mean to u

sean-
Release is twofold to me personally...first and foremost it means tookie didn't die in vein and secondly it means some asian masseuse will have a very profitable evening. I want to thank all those who stuck through this ordeal w/me...notably jake gyllenhall and heath ledger.

james-
when a man goes through what you have, changes usually occur, he emerges a different often a more focused man. can you tell us a little about how sean o'day has grown from this experience?

sean-
very true, you sound like a man who has gone through similar experiences. these circumstances can often lead to thinking that could be detrimental to the person but my good friend red kept me focused the entire time and turned me on to the teachings of don knotts. Through his inspiring words i have developed a level of understanding which will help me succeed now that release is upon me. I assume you are not talking about the changes my anus endured throughout this time but in case you are I got some ointment that dr phil says will reduce the swelling and abrasions.

james-
lest talk about a regular day for you. Richard Simmons often says idle time is something something and something about his plaything, was there a schedule you stuck to to keep yourself busy, fit and sane?

sean-
hey say idle hands go straight to the genitals so i felt it important to keep myself busy. not to say i didnt gratify myself at an astounding pace but there is more to life than self gratification...i bet richard simmons has never said that. so, w/that in mind i dove into the classics, reading such classics as Paris Hiltons confessions of a heiress. Outside of that I picked up Fabio's Fitness and lived my life by it. That is one intelligent, terribly handsome man. Outside of that internet pornography is a respite for those in my situation, and lest we not forget my how I honed my new talent for ventriloquism during this time. The time can rule you or you can rule the time....I chose the latter.

james-
there was quite a bit of support drummed up for you over the last few months. you mentioned heath ledger and jake gyllenhall and im sure most of our readers are aware that ang lee donated half the proceeds from brokeback mountain toward your cause.
also there were "realease now" parties hosted not only in your hometown of philly but also here in los angeles. I hear even Robin Guthrie formerly of the cocteau twins played a benefit show. did that keep the spirits high knowing that so many people cared and pled for release?

sean-
it meant the world to me. things can get bleak rapidly under such circumstances but just knowing that people of all race, religion, and creeds were supporting me helped a great deal. I want to read to you a letter i received from a young boy in Grand Rapids, MI:
"Dear Sean, I'm writing to you as a child confined, not as you find yourself confined, but confined by the incessant midnight snacks my father insists on claiming late night in my bedroom. When I approach my mother about the incidents she turns a deaf ear, usually turning up the view louder, which actually is much worse than the incidents. W/the strength I was able to muster from your movement I ran away from that house and am now turning tricks on D St on the south side of Detroit. Please come see me when you are able. Thanks, Bobby.
I have since diverted funds received from our movement to help Bobby enhance his appeal on the street corner w/some simple plastic surgery. Its stories like these that kept me going.

James-
Well I dont think theres any doubt that future generations when learning of political injustice will look to the walls of there classrooms and see four figures, four freedom fighters, four heroes, Mandela, Poundstone, Trotsky and O'day. How does it feel to be included on that list

sean-
Its an absolute honor Im not so sure Im deserving of, Poundstones comic musing have been a source of inspiration for years not too mention her tenacity in fighting for childs rights. The other two arent too shabby either. I dont necessarily want people to look at me as a cult hero along the same lines as Billie Jean, Im just a man trying to live his life and not impede on the common goodmuch like Tom Cruise. Since, my release this morning at 7:30am est I have received countless phone calls from Oprahs people, Ellen, Letterman, Leno, and Tony Danza. This is not the kind of attention I want, although when Danza calls you dont dodge so look for me on his show early in February. I, did, what I thought Clay Aikens would have done if he were in my shoesits not something I feel its not something I feel that should be celebrated individually but every day. If people want to look to me for inspiration much like Harry Anderson did Mel Torme in Night Court I am truly honored and would be delighted if it led them down the right path to Gabriel.

james-
i'm sure many will learn from your example, you've touched many children and many lives.I know you're a busy man and so just one last question if i may.
After all this time Release is here, so what now, whats next for Sean O'day.

sean-
Well, let me start w/a correction, during this time away from society I have been enlightened and no longer go by Sean ODay but am now simply Abdullah. This is all time granted to me by the forces of Gabriel so I plan to use them wisely. I think whats in order first is some vacation time so I can finally finish my novel. After that, I plan on going on the road doing a speaking tour at local pubs and whorehouses. I also think theres some kind of New Years festivities planned involving all the cast members from Golden Girls, some Elmers glues, duct tape, doilies, and whipped cream. The New Year will be a time for me to spread my wings and soar, which will last for the remainder of time here on mother earth. I appreciate your time as well and hope to be seeing you soon. Gabriel bless

james-
thank you Abdullah, thank you

The Singularity Is Near : When Humans Transcend Biology
By Ray Kurzweil
Release date: 22 September, 2005
Monday, September 26, 2005
I am proud to announce that robin gutrhie will be performing Lumiere at the wilshire grand in downtown los angeles on November 20th 2005.
this event will be hosted in the wilshire's beautiful pacific ballroom, this evening promises to be an unforgetable night, hope to see everyone there.

"Lumiere is an hour long animated film created as a backdrop to a sublime
collection of sensual and atmospheric, guitar only, instrumentals of truly
hypnotic beauty performed live by Robin Guthrie.

As the founder member of the seminal Cocteau Twins, Robin Guthrie has
created some of the most beautiful music of recent times and is widely
regarded as a musical visionary. The distinctive sonic landscapes that have
become his trademark are again on display throughout the Lumiere performance
and at time, touches upon his instrumental debut Imperial, his soundtrack to
Gregg Araki's award winning Mysterious Skin, released earlier this year, as
well as introducing exclusive new material from his delightful forthcoming
LP Continental. Needless to say, his many admirers will find much here that
they recognise and love.

Yet what marks this performance out from his recorded work is the
spaciousness of the music. Robin employs an astonishingly down-tempo pace
throughout to mesmerising effect. This is music to drift away to... music
within which you can lose yourself...

Lumiere has been lovingly assembled with the same craft and techniques which
Robin has used in the sonic world for years, an interweaving and layering of
images, creating distinct moods which are reflected by the music being
played - "improvised within the framework; dictated by the visuals", relying
on layers of treated guitars, textures and sumptously cyclic melodies.

opening for robin wil be LA's broaddaylight

tickets will be available in advance
more details to come later this week (hopefully thursday),
cartwheels and cheers,
james

also the highlight of the night was sharing my theory with bret on what exactly was written in the saftey deposit box and on robby's picture (if you'd like to know what bret had to say about it email me as i dont want to spoil it for anyone that hasnt read it)

so start off with the drama, i suppose thats the best way to go, i was involved in a very large accident today, if you live in los angeles you might of heard t on the news, it seems everyone did. it was on the 405 south freeway, i had just merged off the 110 south, and had almost reached the avalon off ramp, two away from my exit, about 8 min from work. there seemed to be severe injuries suffered by some of the other drivers. so the details i was listening to the first song off of "funeral" by the arcade fire. when i was hit from behind and spun to the left, where then a semi hit me almost head on and i know its kind of cheeesey to even mention it but i must because it really is the best part, for a second there i did think that was it, i let go of the steering wheel and relaxed, but i didnt die, realizing this i grabbed the steering wheel, praising 80's german engineering, in any modern cheap crap made car, that probably would of been it, so then i was spun to the right, almost doing a 180 where another car hit me totalling the side of my car, then i was thrown the other direction, where one more car hit me (not that bad) and then finally i was almost on the shoulder, when yet one last car nailed me and then with no fanfare i found myself on the side of the road. stepped out to look at my car a 1980 300cd mercedes, complete wreck, destroyed and gone forever, my car was great, i loved it, though it gave me hell every month it seemed, something was always breaking, and i probably poured about 2 grand easy into it over the course of a year and a half, but like i said i compltely loved, classic looking, drove like a disney autopia vehicle just a tad bit faster it seemed (at good times it reached 80 and i always got quite excited) i always knew one day it was just going to die, old cars are like that, you usually just wait for a mechanic to tell you it hopeless, and you say your pathetic goodbyes when you realize you cant afford it, that it doesnt mean that much, and so you scrap it, part it out whatever, so im quite glad that this is how it happened, destroyed, not at all fixable, a complete loss, sudden, and with no thought a good solid death, i'll live though i'll miss my car..

went to carter colemans reading last night at book soup in hollywood for his new book Cages Bend, was mainly going to meet and chat with my favorite author bret easton ellis,
anyone that knows me is aware that im quite the ellis freak. Bret's introduction was great, highlights- carters review of Rules of Attraction, carter saving the rainforest and flying with baby eagles, and a drug induced party at a club in new york. After Bret's introduction Carter talked a little and then read half of the first chapter and half of a later chapter, was a great reading, hope his book takes off.
But of course the best part of the night was meeting and talking to bret about his upcoming book (Lunar Park due out Sept 1st), writing, the progress of the movie adaptation of Glamorama and how being the last person in a restaraunt is a totally frightnening experiance.
I've always loved Brets work and it was quite an event getting to meet and chat with him. anyway, heres some photos from last night
