Mooner's notes:

I put in my dues to get this recording. Neil is one of those artists that prefer an open floor for the audience. 20 feet from centre stage barely left room to breathe but the show was more than worth the aches I had the next day. Audio came straight from the stage rather than the stacks and there was plenty of on-stage speakers. Neil rolled out one of the biggest speaker boxes I've ever seen... for his guitar. You'll need to excuse the crowd around me, and their enthusiasm, but once again Marooned has whipped this into a great 'you are there' release. Thanks Marooned.

The Machine - Raising Sand with the Belle of Bluegrass (MCD047)

Robert Plant - lead vocals
Alison Krauss - lead vocals, fiddle
T Bone Burnett - guitars, vocals
Buddy Miller - guitars, mandolin, autoharp
Stuart Duncan - guitars, fiddle, banjo, mandolin
Dennis Crouch - bass

Mooner's notes:

Was it the WaMu/RP-AK speaker sys? Or a fiendish corporate stab at tapers? Or a set of mics grossly mismatched for the type of audio they were meant to capture? I don't know. But mastering this show was beyond my abilities. Like some of the previous audience recordings of this tour, bass mysteriously avoided being captured. Frequencies that would come and go, abnormal and stunted ranges, stage output that barely made 18kHz... I could bitch all night. So I asked Marooned from Echoes Hub to arm wrestle this into shape. He pulled it all together into a listenable state. Many thanks Marooned.

This was a satisfying show, albeit a little heavy on the treble side since the only bass instrument was a standup bass. But pairing Plant with Krauss is like watching Granny Clampitt wave to you from the trunk of an Enzo . One or two songs fused well (Battle Of Evermore) but the rest just had great backing vocals.

Kashmir was not played...

Luckily I was up in the pit and could actually hear a fraction of the Orchestra above the noisy crowd. I'm not going to write up a nice article for this show, simply because the fans don't deserve it. As you will hear in the beginning of On The Run, I shut people up within a 10 foot radius of me for a small amount of time. The ushers were unreal. Not a single picture was allowed to be taken, I recorded this show 100% stealth and did not receive good fidelity from my mic. Kinda dissapointed in the sound honestly, but I did the best I coiuld with editing.

You will still enjoy the recording. The Orchestra should have been in front of the band and used in more songs, perhaps if they would have played High Hopes the crowd would have shut the fuck up. I only have one thing to say about 1/2 the fans who showed up at the mann center. You paid 50 dollars not including gas or food or alcohol to hear yourselves talk. Hope it was worth the money to tell your friends "yeah I went to the show" even though you didnt hear and probably don't remember much of anything, you classes pieces of shit. grow the fuck up and show some respect to those next to you and those on stage performing. I don't blame you, I blame your parents for not having the decency to care about your upbringing in a respectful way. Oh and it was nice watching the black girls trick them selves wearing bras and huggers pushing baby strollers. If there are Aliens out there, think they would want you? Disgusting.

CLEAN UP YOUR CITY DIRTBAGS!

Brain Damage - The Flames Are All Long Gone (But The Alarm Lingers On) (MCD045)

Super-Cardioid Dynamic Microphone > CTR-122 Analog Recorder > XR 90 Tapes > WAV > Cool Edit Pro > Wav > Flac (sector aligned - level 7)

Did someone say Lazer Light Show?  Simply Phenominal!  Don't worry we have upcoming video for everyone.

Larry and Suzanne's vocals ripped through the entire show and blended together well and I'd like to welcome Brain Damage's new backup vocalist, Bonnie. Paul and Kurt kicked ass on guitar, for a moment I thought Gilmour was on stage. Tony on percussion led the band and allowed little room for error while Walt ..s provided his usual guaranteed clutch effort including backing vocals. The first song was rough as they didn't perform a sound check due to an over booked venue. Give them that and the first set is absolutely awesome.

The second set started great but then suddenly took a surprizing, momentary nose dive. The mood was dulled when the fog machine set off the fire alarms inside of the theater. Time was... well, kinda destroyed and it's hard to listen to after half-way through. But at least the sprinklers didn't come on! LOL. At first I thought a bunch of kids were blowing whistles but then quickly realized it was not 2006 and we were not in New York City at David Gilmour's Radio City Music Hall show. Many audience members quickly covered up and protected their ears from the shreaking fire alarms. In about 10 minutes after the local police and fire company secured the alarm system, Brain Damage came back on stage and Suzanne blew away the audience with The Great Gig In The Sky, resetting a soothing Pink Floyd mood for the rest of the night.

Echoes Members who were present: Marooned, Smile, MassedGadgets, Kiowa, Nickeh and Drivont.

When we were chatting about the fire alarms going off, while backstage after the show, Kiowa walked over to me with a slightly sinister look in his eyes and said "The flames are all long gone." and everyone laughed and cracked up. He also suggested I use this for the name of the show. How could anyone beat that?

Enjoy!!

1987-11-15 – Pink Floyd – The Arena – St. Louis, MO

This was the second Pink Floyd show that I ever attended and my first attempt at recording a live concert.  I used an Aiwa HS-J380 stereo cassette recorder with Aiwa CM-S20 microphone. The microphone was clipped to my shirt and I simply gave it the good old "college try." Arena crowds tend to be extremely loud and rowdy – and this concert was no exception. The master cassettes (Maxell XLII 90) have only been played one time as far as I can remember. I used to have a policy of making a copy of every master tape and then making my copies (for trade) from that sub-master. I made a few copies (in this fashion) for my friends that went to the show - but have not seen the show in circulation – or found other sources. The tapes had been boxed up in the garage for years and I had pretty much forgotten about them. Marooned he said he was very excited to master them up and make them available on the Echoes Hub. So, here they are for you to listen to and enjoy.

Mooner's notes:
A year and a day after I recorded this show I was once again sitting at my computer fiddling with the raw data that was ripped from my M-Track just hours after Roger's show. The second set data was raw and contiguous but pure white noise, and crashed every audio program/utility that tried to load it or look at it. A small fortune had been spent searching for software that would bend, spindle, and mutilate this data into something that might resemble music. The freeware program
Audacity was the tool that brought the second half to life... and The Setting Moon was reborn - complete!

So it's my great pleasure to provide you all with one of the best performances of Roger, and if I might boast, one of the best sounding recordings of the tour. This show has full blast audience participation in the recording, but the beauty of it is - it added to the overall SQ. The taping location was so close that when a note was played on stage, the audience for the most part disappeared behind the music. This is as close as you can get to being there, so close your eyes and crank it up!

Well deserved thanks to:

Marooned - for mastering this recording - twice!, for building my home within my home, and filling it with a real family.

T - for being T, the recording and mastering guru of EchoesHub who we all aspire to emulate.

TheYak - for sharing this Roger experience with me, and his friendship (umrk.zapto.org:411)

Glenn and Martin - for tutoring my taste in music.
