Hey Geiners,

I have a new twitter account.  If you want to keep up on the latest corpse news, as it happens, then follow me now.

I throw Ed Gein Collection news at you (like the fact that I created a corpse arm for writer Neil Gaiman), Rent-a-Corpse.com (kick ass Splash Art by D.W. Frydendall), and Girls and Corpses Magazine tidbits....

So stay in the loop, The Corpse Loop that is....

Laid to Rest....

.. ..

Approximate Running Time: 90 Minutes.....

Rating:  Unrated.....

DVD Released by: ....Anchor.. ..Bay.........

SRP: $26.97....

The Film....

.. ..

Let’s be honest, the whole serial killer wearing a mask gag is getting a little old.  We’ve had Michael Myers, We have Jason, hell, we even have Leatherface!  Done right, the faceless killer can be another nail in the coffin of what scares us.  So it was with some foot dragging that I sat down to watch “Laid to Rest”.  A killer running around with a chrome plated mask and twin Rambo knives didn’t quite grab me as original.  Even the Killer with camera has been played out as far as I was concerned.  I’m also getting tired of the whole August Underground /Murder Set Pieces, violence against women type of film.....

So imagine my surprise when I find a genuinely, creepy, well crafted horror film that had me literally squirming in my seat.  I know!  Who would have thought!....

Laid to Rest has a very simple plotline which actually plays to its advantage.  A young woman wakes up in a coffin, doesn’t remember who she is, where she is, and how she got there.  As she tries to find her way out of the locked mortuary, a gleaming face from Hell materializes out of the darkness and the killing begins.  It seems that our chrome dome killer likes to record his kills, and has a camera mounted on his shoulder, documenting every moment of his killing spree.  The chase begins as our amnesiac heroine tries to escape and God help anyone who tries to lend her aid.....

.. ..

Extras....

.. ..

·        Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Robert Hall and Actor/Producer Bobbi Sue Luther.....

·        Postmortem:  The making of Laid to Rest.....

·        Torture:  the SFX of Laid to Rest.....

·        Deleted Scenes.....

·        Bloopers.....

·        Trailer.....

.. ..

Final Thoughts....

.. ..

I’ve watched this film a couple of times now, and really enjoyed it.  It has some very realistic and inventive kills, and props goes out to the Art Director for crafting the scariest looking home for our killer since The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  An interesting side note, this was taken from the press release:   Laid to Rest was photographed with the revolutionary Panasonic HPX-3000 high-definition 1080p camera in the AVC Intra Mode - the first ever feature film completed with this technology.  This advance in filmmaking technology parallels ChromeSkull’s penchant for gadgetry, making this unforgettable excursion into technological terror nothing less than the first true digital horror film”.  So grab some popcorn, your favorite guy or girl, and settle in and see why “Laid to Rest” is going to keep you from getting any rest this evening.....

.. ..

I give this movie, four out of five corpses.

....

.. ..

BTW- If you are not doing anything this evening, and you live in the ....L.A..... area, come on out to Dark Delicacies and meet the cast and crew of Laid to Rest.  Here’s the details:....

WHAT:              Fresh from previewing the film at this weekend’s Fangoria Convention in ....Los Angeles...., the cast and filmmakers of ....Anchor.. ..Bay.... Entertainment’s highly anticipated new release LAID TO REST will be greeting fans and signing DVD copies on Tuesday, April 21st at ....Burbank....’s famed Dark Delicacies bookstore.....

Hey Geiners,
A lot of you know that I like to collect Circus Sideshow ephemera.  I own a signed pitch book from Johnny Eck, one of Giant Jack Earle's rings, some original sideshow gaffs like a pickled punk, fur covered trout, flesh eating toad etc..
Well, I got a couple more pieces for my birthday.  One was a picture of the Doll Family.  They were the most famous midget family in the world, with not only years with the Barnum and Baily Sideshow, but movie credits that included The Unholy Three with Lon Chaney, Freaks, and The Wizard of Oz.  This particular photo is signed by Tiny Doll.

The next piece is a cool piece of Sideshow history.  It's a relic display concerning the death of famous Sideshow pitchman, Sailor Katzy.  Here's his story:

On March 16, 1961, in Gibsonton, Florida, carnival showman, Alfred "Sailor Katzy" Henley, fell victim to one of his own, already famous, sideshow attractions, an 18 foot long, monster reticulated python.  Unfortunately, the good sailor got drunk and decided to handle the snake alone, and while it was hungry.  After crushing his keeper to death,  the python proceeded to crawl high up into a nearby tree.

The local volunteer fire department (lead at that time by famous sideshow giant, Al Tomaini) was called in to remove the snake.

Mrs. Henley yelled frantically for them not to harm it in any way, as she had other plans for it.  She then toured with it as, "The Snake That Killed Sailor Katzy", and packed the show daily, due to the national press coverage that the story obtained.  Even after the snake's death it continued to tour, but now as a tanned hide and with it's head pickled in a large, one gallon, glass jar of formaldehyde.  After Mrs. Henley's death, the snake's remains passed from one showman to another, then onto various collectors.  The snake's hide is now extremely old, hard and brittle, and is missing many pieces, making it impossible to display as a whole. Thus, it was broken up and distributed evenly amongst various museums and private collectors.

The snakes head had been on display at the American Dime Museum in Baltimore Maryland.

My piece was put together with several pieces of the above mentioned snakeskin, and turned into a relic of Sailor Katzy's interesting demise.

So anyway, just wanted to share.  Hope you enjoyed the stories.

Following
the huge success of Art Core's "Honoring Metal through Art" show &
to celebrate the newest additions yo the ever evolving (Truly a work of
art in its self) Congregation of Forgotten Saints Gallery and Boutique,
Art Core has again gathered an enthralling group of 40 artists from
many different facets of the world art community. This time the
assemblage has been strung together not to pay homage to Metal, but to
Saints. These are not the saints you learned about in catholic school.
But rather new and returned effigys to Patron saints that never were.

Including works by renouned artists the likes of Gris Grimly, Alex
Garcia, Cam Rackam, MearOne, Christopher Ulrich and Krys Sapp.
Attendees at February 13ths black carpet opening reception can expect
the same over the top extravagance and attention to detail seen at the
Metal show reception. "Saints" will be set amongst a backdrop fitting
to the theme. Installations will include themed murals, a new archway
welcoming the participants into the world of "Preachers and fools", an
altar (set with hand carved statues, candles and flowers), an
interactive "Confessional" and special "Holy water" to quench your
thirst after an evening spent confessing your sins to a truly unique
group of unholy martyrs.
Art Core's last event at The Congregation
of Forgotten Saints saw over 900 art fans cross its threshold, so
showing up ealry is recommended.
There will be plenty of street parking after 8pm.
Make sure you wear your Sunday best, all attendees will be photographed on the Black Carpet upon arrival.

So come on out and see my piece, St. Ed, Patron Saint of Grave Robbers.

Next up:

Huge signing event with Girls and Corpses Magazine.  Everyone knows by now that I'm the Gravedigger  for Girls and Corpses Magazine.  Love it or Hate it, you have to admit that there is nothing like it anywhere!  Want to see who our readers are?  How about Jay Leno,

or the U.S. Marines stationed in Iraq?

What about Ozzie Osbourne?

or Frank Miller?

Why don't you add your own name to the list, and come on out and see us this Saturday, at Dark Delicacies!

So that's what's going on this weekend.  Hope to see you there!

On ..July 26th, 1984,America.’s most infamous grave robber, Ed Gein, was laid to rest in the very cemetery he plundered for over ten years.  During that decade (1947-1957), he exhumed countless bodies and used them as a creative outlet for his necrophilia based urges.  Soup bowels made out of skulls, skinned face masks, a belt made out of women’s nipples, even a whole suit made out of human skin.  Like some sort of deranged Martha Stewart, Ed Gein dug up the graves of the recently deceased and the not so recently deceased, and continued to make his necromantic knickknacks until he was finally caught on November 17th, 1957Not more than twenty four hours after he was laid to rest, EdGein was dug up by a person or persons unknown and spirited away into the night.  Don’t kid yourself.  Grave robbing still exists in the 21stcentury.  The International Grave Robbing Union, or IGRU, continues to ply its trade as it has since the days of Burke and Hare.  In this case, they exhumed the person who was destined to become their Patron Saint, Saint Ed, The Patron Saint of Grave robbers.Ed Gein’s body is now considered by the IGRU as a holy relic.  The cross on which he is mounted is made of wood from his farm house.  The barb wire that holds his body is also from his farm. The shovel, from which he plied his trade, is mounted with him.  Hanging from his right hip is his trademark red plaid hunters cap, and upon his left hip, the skinned face mask of his last victim, Bernice Worden.  Recently, the IGRU commissioned renowned dark artist Chuck Hodi to create a one of a kind charcoal and pastel drawing of their beloved saint, which was mounted on the cross, just above Saint Ed’s holy head.

....

Do you like this piece?  Then come on out to the Congregation of Forgotton Saints, Friday, Feb 13th, and see 50 other "Forgotten Saints" in all their glory!

Hey Geiner's,

What better way to kick off the new year than with a kick ass art show!  Well, my buddy Clint Carney is having a one night show on Sat, Jan 17th, featuring his new Serial Killer art, along with a few other treats and treasures from his studio.  As an added bonus, all his work is discounted for that one night!  I know times are tough, I've been out of work for three months now, so I'm right there with you brother, but nobody feels the economic pinch more than your local artist and your local art gallery.  So come on out to Hyaena Gallery for Clint Carney's cool show and throw a little economical stimulus their way.

Here's Clint's posting about his show:

On January 17th at Hyaena Gallery, there is a special one night only event for my art. The focus of the event is a series of serial killer portraits that I have painted. These portraits have been featured in several issues of Serial Killer Magazine, but this night will be the first (and possibly only) opportunity to see them in person.

All of my other art currently on display at Hyaena with be discounted 15% for this one night only!

Additionally, I'm bringing in several pieces that have previously been on display in other galleries, and reducing the prices drastically for this one night. This will be the last time these paintings will be shown or sold anywhere, so if you want the chance to pick one up, please come out to the gallery.

All in all, there will be over 30 of my paintings on display!

I'll also have SYSTEM SYN and FAKE merchandise for sale. Or feel free to bring in the albums you already have and I'll be glad to sign anything.

Since this is a one night only thing, please help spread the word about it. Thanks!

Clint Carney
