Archived articles surface, refer to “Kenyan-born Obama”

By Linda Bentley | October 21, 2009

kenyan born obama article

A June 2004 article from the archives of the East African Standard referred to then Senator Barack Obama as “Kenyan-born,” while an article published in the Oct. 11, 2009 edition refers to Obama becoming President of the United States “via a sleepy village in Kenya called Nyang’oma K’Ogelo.”

Last week, an archived article from the Sunday, June 27, 2004 edition of the East African Standard headlined: “Kenyan-born Obama all set for US Senate” was unearthed.

The article began, “Kenyan-born US Senate hopeful, Barack Obama, appeared set to take over the Illinois Senate seat after his main rival, Jack Ryan, dropped out of the race on Friday night amid a furor over lurid sex club allegations.”

The uncovering of this archive went viral on the Internet and could be found on blogs from coast to coast.

Another archived article surfaced last week from the Nov. 4, 2008 edition of the Nigerian Observer titled: “US Presidential Polls: Obama, McCain slug it out today.”

The article, by Soloman Osowata with Agency Reports, stated, “The Kenyan-born Senator will, however, face stiff competition from his Republican counterpart, John McCain who has taken the presidential battle to the finishing line with vigorous campaign strategies.”

More recently, the Oct. 11, 2009 edition of the Standard published an article questioning whether or not Obama deserved the Nobel Peace Prize.

The opening sentence in that article stated, “It seems Barack Hussein Obama, President of the United States of America (via a sleepy village in Kenya called Nyang’oma K’Ogelo) can do no wrong.”

In light of these recent discoveries, Snopes.com has been surprisingly silent on the matter, as have other fact-checking websites. Snopes.com has aggressively debunked any and all questions about Obama’s birthplace, even going so far as to change archived information when the very left-leaning couple that runs Snopes.com realized certain posts contradicted other posts on their own website.

The November 2008 edition of the Organization of American Historians (OAH) Newsletter contained an editorial by Monica-Wanambisi Mwesel, a literature professor at the University of Nairobi, titled: “What Kenyans think about an Obama win.”

According to its website, the OAH, founded in 1907 as the Mississippi Valley Historical Association, “is the largest professional organization for the investigation, study and teaching of American History. It serves a membership of 11,000 college and university professors, high school teachers, students, archivists, public historians, and institutional subscribers such as libraries, museums, and history societies, as well as individual and institutional foreign members.”

The article, obviously published before the Nov. 4, 2008 election, stated, “Most Kenyans feel that, should Obama win, their lives will definitely improve … Many assume that by being connected to Kenya, Obama would be empowered to send vast amounts of U.S. aid to their country. Since graft and corruption are common to both the Islamic and the Democratic parties, certainly most of this money would go to the promotion of an Islamic state and then financing the conversion of other African states to Islam. Many assume that Obama will channel resources that will go a long way in improving the lives of the people.”

Mwesel mentions schools were renamed after Obama prior to his most recent visit with the hope of attracting funding, since it would be considered “a shame that a school named for a great American should be so dilapidated.”

She went on to say, “A widespread assumption is that, being a Kenyan, Obama understands the problems Kenyans face. Hence they expect more foreign aid from him. They wonder why they should stay poor while they have a Kenyan president of the U.S.”

Close to half of Kenyans, Mwesel said, dreaded the prospects of an Obama presidency and were fractured along ethnic lines, citing the Kikuyu tribe feared an Obama victory would boost the chances of Raila Odinga, a Luoccai like Obama, to ascend to the presidency.

Mwesel concluded, “It is therefore very clear that Senator Obama draws frenzied support from the Luo ethnic group of his ancestors, while many members of the rival Kikuyu group do not support him.”

In fact, Mwesel said the majority of the Kikuyu favored New York Senator Hillary Clinton during the Democratic primaries.

Brandi Carlile: Give Up the Ghost

[Columbia]

A good thing gets better

Brandi Carlile is a woman out of time. She’s no revivalist—four years into her recording career, her albums owe as much to early Radiohead as they do Johnny Cash. But she seems like an artist who, at any point in the past 50 years, could’ve come busting out of Ravensdale, Wash., to bowl the world over like she did in 2005 with her self-titled debut.
The album was a fresh 10-song collection of rootsy, straightforward acoustic rock, shot through with wide-eyed, weary wonder. Bit with that voice—warm and bell-clear, skipping up and down her register like smooth, flat stones tossed across a still lake—she would’ve been right at home on the Opry stage, crooning tortured ballads alongside Patsy and Loretta, or maybe harmonizing with Gram Parsons in some alternate Emmylou-less universe. But by some stroke of fate, she landed in these times instead.

It wasn’t until 2007’s The Story—her T-Bone Burnett-produced sophomore release—that we realized even half of what we’d been dealt. Nearly a minute into the second song (the title track and lead single), something about her shifted from promise to absolute certainty as Carlile let loose a hurricane of lung power: “Swam all across the ocean blue / Crossed all the lines and I broke all the rules,” she belted, her voice suddenly ripping loose and flailing into the wind, rearranging coastlines, flooding streets. “And baby, I broke them all for you."

At the dead center of that storm was a big, beating, bleeding heart that pumps on into her third LP, the aptly titled Give Up the Ghost, on which nearly every track parses the relative benefits of relief and retreat, resolution and regret. Cathartic lead track “Looking Out” sets the pace, trading anxious verses—“When I asked the corner preacher, I couldn’t hear him for my youth / Some people get religion, some people get the truth”—with a chorus that declares the album’s thesis over an impatient drumbeat: “I know the darkness pulls on you, but it’s just a point of view / When you’re outside looking in, you belong to someone.”

Swaddled in instant-gravitas piano lines and tidy electric-guitar solos, the lyrics might seem hokey if they didn’t feel, at once, so broadly applicable and completely personal. Carlile is too busy untangling the snarls of everyday life and love to be bothered with irony or postmodern cutesiness. For her, love is the axis around which everything turns, whether coming or going, long-lost or firmly rooted. It’s not that Carlile is a romantic—she just faces the world with a probing grace and gratefulness, despite all the snags. “You might not miss this, but I will,” she sings on resolute fifth track “I Will,” a genderless breakup hymn that could just as easily send off a soured friendship as a failed love affair.

Despite her early country influences and occasional boot-scoot swagger, Carlile is essentially a writer of pop songs—in this regard, her tendency toward lyrical generality works quite well, making several tracks feel radio-ready. (Production help from Rick Rubin doesn’t hurt, either.) But when Carlile gets personal, watch out. The album’s only named character is the title subject of “Caroline”—a jaunty barroom duet with Elton John—that transitions abruptly into the heartrending “That Year,” written about the suicide of a high-school friend. Part long-delayed eulogy, part attempt at personal absolution, it’s searingly, undeniably true—certainly the most beautifully wrought song on the album, and among the finest of Carlile’s young career.

Writhing and burning and staring at life straight down the barrel, Give Up the Ghost is exactly the album Carlile needed to make at this moment. The production is thick but elegant, applied with full knowledge that the songs could exist beautifully in a sparse acoustic-strummed daze, but that they deserve more than that. The best part about Give Up The Ghost? She will probably make an even better album one day.

Carlile is hardly perfect, but she’s good—a really solid, deep-down kind of good, and not just in terms of her musical ability or quality of output, but on a basic moral level, too. She cares. She hurts. She wants to do right. And she has the heart, guts, skill and wherewithal to make crushing, beautiful art about that struggle. And when you’re good like she is, it doesn’t matter when you come around. There’s a twinge of predestination to it, an air of certainty that supersedes all buzz and hype—it’s a moot point, an understood fact. Brandi Carlile is right here, right now, and she’s ours.

Listen to Brandi Carlile on Lala.

Dear Mr. Mackin,

I’m sorry to have to bother you about this, but I am frustrated and angry about the situation with regards to UAB football and basketball games being broadcast on CSS and not being able to watch them at my house. This is a constant problem that prevents me from viewing more than a dozen UAB football and basketball games every year.

I have DirecTV (Charter Cable is not available in my neighborhood) and I have ESPN Gameplan. The UAB/Troy game is included in the ESPN Gameplan package for this week, but it is blacked out for more than 75% of the state of Alabama.

I contacted ESPN about this. Here is the transcript of my chat session with them…

ESPN Viewer Response> Hello. How may I help you?

Guest> I'm concerned about the fact that I live within the blackout area for the UAB @ Troy game on Gameplan. CSS is not available on DirecTV!!!

ESPN Viewer Response> Let me check that for you

Guest> OK, thanks!

ESPN Viewer Response> where are you located?

Guest> ************, Kimberly, AL 35091

Guest> Charter Cable IS NOT available where I live!

Guest> I understand that Charter Cable and DirecTV are competitors, but I think it's ridiculous that thousands of fans that live in Metro Birmingham get screwed when it comes to TV broadcasts of the home town team!

Guest> It forces me to have to search for a restaurant or sports bar that has Charter Cable so I can watch the UAB games and then one of their CSS games is finally on Gameplan and it is blacked out!

ESPN Viewer Response> I understand your frustration and I can definitely pass those comments along

Guest> Sorry to vent on you... I'm just really frustrated about this...

ESPN Viewer Response> I'm still looking into this

ESPN Viewer Response> I'm a fan too, it's tough sometimes

Guest> OK, thanks! I'm hoping that you will be able to fix this

ESPN Viewer Response> This may take a while. Is your contact information correct?

ESPN Viewer Response> Ok, I'll contact you when I have an answer. Thanks.
_______________

Here is the generic response I got from them…

From: ESPN International Networks

Hello,

Unfortunately, you will be blacked out for this game on our platforms. However, it is certain that you will be able to see this game on one of your local networks.

We hope that you are able to see the game, and we have passed along your comments to the appropriate executives.

Sincerely,
ESPN Viewer Response

_______________

This obviously doesn’t help me because Charter Cable is not available in my neighborhood and I will not be able to see the game because it is only available on CSS.

Is there anything you can do about this situation?

Please contact me if I can help in any way.

Regards,

Elliot Brindley

Papal message seeks "global authority" for economy

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Benedict called on Tuesday for a "world political authority" to manage the global economy and for more government regulation of national economies to pull the world out of the current crisis and avoid a repeat.
The pope made his call for a re-think of the way the world economy is run in a new encyclical which touched on a number of social issues but whose main connecting thread was how the current crisis has affected both rich and poor nations.
Parts of the encyclical, titled "Charity in Truth," seemed bound to upset free marketeers because of its underlying rejection of unbridled capitalism and unregulated market forces, which he said had led to "thoroughly destructive" abuse of the system.
The pope said every economic decision had a moral consequence and called for "forms of redistribution" of wealth overseen by governments to help those most affected by crises.
Benedict said "there is an urgent need of a true world political authority" whose task would be "to manage the global economy; to revive economies hit by the crisis; to avoid any deterioration of the present crisis and the greater imbalances that would result."
Such an authority would have to be "regulated by law" and "would need to be universally recognized and to be vested with the effective power to ensure security for all, regard for justice, and respect for rights."
"Obviously it would have to have the authority to ensure compliance with its decisions from all parties, and also with the coordinated measures adopted in various international forums," he said.
REFORM NEEDED
The United Nations, economic institutions and international finance all had to be reformed "even in the midst of a global recession," he said in the encyclical, a booklet of 141 pages.
The pope's call for a supranational body to tackle global economic woes disturbed some Catholic capitalists.
"There is a difference between coordination and mandate ... a reckless loan in the United States can and did impoverish people in Latvia. So obviously coordination is important as long as it is not mandates," said Frank Keating, CEO of the American Council of Life Insurers and former Governor of Oklahoma.
An encyclical is the highest form of papal writing and gives the clearest indication to the world's 1.1 billion Catholics -- and to non-Catholics -- of what the pope and the Vatican think about specific social and moral issues.
This one was addressed to all Catholics and "all people of good will" and was released on the eve of the start of the G8 summit in Italy and three days before the pope is due to discuss the global downturn with U.S. President Barack Obama.
In several sections of the encyclical, Benedict made it clear he had great reservations about a totally free market.
"The conviction that the economy must be autonomous, that it must be shielded from 'influences' of a moral character, has led man to abuse the economic process in a thoroughly destructive way," he said.
"In the long term, these convictions have led to economic, social and political systems that trample upon personal and social freedom and are therefore unable to deliver the justice that they promise," he added.
Profit was useful only if it served as a means to a brighter future for all humanity.
"Once profit becomes the exclusive goal, if it is produced by improper means and without the common good as its ultimate end, it risks destroying wealth and creating poverty," he said.
He said the current economic crisis was "clear proof" of "pernicious effects of sin" in the economy.
"Financiers must rediscover the genuinely ethical foundation of their activity ... right intention, transparency, and the search for positive results are mutually compatible and must never be detached from one another," he said.
The pope appeared to back government intervention "in correcting errors and malfunctions" in the economy, saying "one could foresee an increase in the new forms of political participation, nationally and internationally."
"Today's international economic scene, marked by grave deviations and failures, requires a profoundly new way of understanding business enterprise," he said.
In other sections of the encyclical, his first on social issues since his 2005 election, he addressed topics such as development, migration, union rights, terrorism, sexual tourism, population issues, the environment, bioethics, and energy.

Medvedev Shows Off Sample Coin of New ‘World Currency’ at G-8
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev illustrated his call for a supranational currency to replace the dollar by pulling from his pocket a sample coin of a “united future world currency.”
“Here it is,” Medvedev told reporters today in L’Aquila, Italy, after a summit of the Group of Eight nations. “You can see it and touch it.”
The coin, which bears the words “unity in diversity,” was minted in Belgium and presented to the heads of G-8 delegations, Medvedev said.

Diary Entry by Gene Cappa

The dust of the World Trade Center Towers on 9/11 reveals irrefutable evidence of the extensive use of thermite explosives which totally demolished the buildings.::::::::

EXPLOSIVES FOUND IN WTC DUST

Explosives Found in World Trade Center Dust

Scientists Discover Both Residues And Unignited Fragments Of Nano-Engineered Thermitic Pyrotechnics In Debris From the Twin Towers

The scientific paper Active Thermitic Material Discovered in Dust from the 9/11 World Trade Center Catastrophe conclusively shows the presence of unignited aluminothermic explosives in dust samples from the Twin Towers, whose chemical signature matches previously documented aluminothermic residues found in the same dust
samples. The present review of the paper and related research is intended to summarize those findings for the non-technical reader. To that end, I first provide a short introduction to the subject of aluminothermic explosives, then outline the methods and results of analysis of the dust samples, and finally explore the significance of these findings.

Traces of explosives in 9/11 dust, scientists say

By Elaine Jarvik
Deseret News

Tiny red and gray chips found in the dust from the collapse of the World Trade Center contain highly explosive materials — proof, according to a former BYU professor, that 9/11 is still a sinister mystery.

Physicist Steven E. Jones, who retired from Brigham Young University in 2006 after the school recoiled from the controversy surrounding his 9/11 theories, is one of nine authors on a paper published last week in the online, peer-reviewed Open Chemical Physics Journal. Also listed as
authors are BYU physics professor Jeffrey Farrer and a professor of nanochemistry at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark.

For several years, Jones has theorized that pre-positioned explosives, not fires from jet fuel, caused the rapid, symmetrical collapse of the two World Trade Center buildings, plus the collapse of a third building, WTC-7.

The newest research, according to the journal authors,
shows that dust from the collapsing towers contained a "nano-thermite" material that is highly explosive. Although the article draws no conclusions about the source and purpose of the explosives, Jones has previously supported a theory that the collapse of the WTC towers was part of a government conspiracy to ignore warnings about the 9/11
terrorists so that the attack would propel America to wage war against Afghanistan and Iraq.

he next step, Jones said in a phone interview on Monday, is for someone to investigate "who made the stuff and why it was there."

A layer of dust lay over parts of Manhattan immediately following the collapse of the towers, and it was samples of this dust that Jones and fellow researchers requested in a 2006 paper, hoping to determine "the whole truth of the events of that day." They eventually tested four samples they received from New Yorkers.

One sample was from a man who had swept up a handful
of dust on the Brooklyn Bridge, where he was walking when the second tower fell. As the journal authors note, "It was, therefore, definitely not contaminated by the steel-cutting or clean-up operations at Ground Zero, which began later. Furthermore, it is not mixed with dust from WTC-7, which fell hours later."

Another man collected dust in his apartment, about five blocks from the World Trade Center, on the morning of Sept. 12. There was a layer about an inch thick on a stack of folded laundry near an open window.

Red/gray chips, averaging in size between .2 and 3 mm, were found in all four dust samples. The chips were then analyzed using scanning electron microscopy and other high-tech tools.

The red layer of the chips, according to the researchers, contains a "highly energetic" form of thermite. While normal thermite (a mixture of finely granulated aluminum and an oxide of metal) can be incendiary, "super thermite" is explosive. He says there is no benign explanation for the thermite in the WTC dust.

Jones made headlines in 2005 when he argued that the rapid and symmetrical fall of the World Trade Center looked like
the result of pre-positioned explosives. He argued that fires alone wouldn't have been hot enough to crumble the buildings; and that even if struck by planes, the towers should have been strong enough to support the weight of the tops as they crumbled — unless they were leveled by explosives.

Essentially forced to retire, Jones says he is now paying for research out of his own pocket. He likens himself to Galileo and Newton, who stood by their consciences. "I would like to
think I could stand up for the truth," he says.

The dust study vindicates his earlier theories, Jones says, but he has mixed feelings about the implications. "As a young student said to me a while back: 'It's exciting from a scientific point of view, because things are now making sense. But I feel sad for my country.' "

Danish scientist: nano explosive material found in the dust from the World Trade Center

Wake Up and Smell the Aluminothermic Nanocomposite Explosives

As Documentation of Thermitic Materials in the WTC Twin Towers Grows, Official Story Backers Ignore, Deny, Evade, and Dissemble

by Jim Hoffman
Version 1.0, April 3, 2009

Introduction

The obliteration of the Twin Towers was the centerpiece of the event that launched the 'War on Terror'. Shocking on multiple levels, the events were especially traumatic for Americans, being the first bombing on the US mainland in modern history that killed thousands of people -- civilians -- in one day. Given the collective psychological trauma of the attack, it is not surprising that public discourse would remain free of observations that the destruction of the Twin Towers bore
obvious features of controlled demolitions. Early candid public remarks by reporters and demolition experts where quickly retracted or forgotten. Passage of the USA PATRIOT Act and the invasion of Afghanistan would proceed apace.

By 2003 the United States had occupations of two countries, and an international reputation as a rogue state all resting on a shaky-at-best collapse theory whose principal alternative hypothesis -- controlled demolition with pre-planted pyrotechnics -- had not even been tested by the straightforward forensic analysis of debris for residues of such
materials.

By early 2009, the residue testing that NIST refused to do had been done by independent researchers, and reported on in a
peer-reviewed chemistry journal. Small bi-layered chips, found consistently in dust samples, have layers of red nano-engineered material that is clearly aluminothermic: it has sub-micron-diameter particles of largely of elemental aluminum, and smaller crystalline grains of primarily Fe2O3. On ignition, the chips produce temperatures above the melting point of iron, leaving tiny iron droplets matching
the residues of commercial thermite pyrotechnics.

The publication of these results should be astounding to anyone who uncritically accepted the collapse explanations in TV documentaries and never looked seriously at any of the several bodies of evidence for controlled demolition.

The NIST investigation, having posted its Final Report with its absurd Building 7 joint-breaking-thermal-expansion theory in late 2008 and FAQ by Christmas, closed its doors before the independent researchers published their findings of active aluminothermic materials in WTC dust in a mainstream scientific journal; but not before they publicized findings of aluminothermic residues in the same dust samples; and not
before they extracted from NIST a series of public statements, in press conferences and in written responses to requests for correction (RFCs), about the conduct of their inquiry into the cause of the skyscrapers' total destruction.

As a result, NIST spokespersons are on the record saying they did not test for pyrotechnics, and offering rationales for failing to perform such tests. Those rationale -- or rationalizations -- summarized toward the end of this essay, include the assertion that testing for pyrotechnics "would not necessarily have been conclusive". That is partially true: failing to find pyrotechnic residues wouldn't rule out demolition, since demolition might have been implemented using an untraceable fuel such as hydrogen gas. But finding abundant and distributed pyrotechnic explosive residues would
conclusively favor demolition -- particularly given the persuasive deductive arguments showing that the features of the buildings' destruction are incompatable with a purely gravity-driven collapse.

The following timeline is narrowly focused on the emergence of public evidence indicating the use of aluminothermic pyrotechnics, ranging from incendiaries to high-explosives, in the destruction of the Twin Towers and Building 7, and on the way official bodies -- particular NIST -- treated that evidence.

NCAA after UAB?
Posted by capstonereport on March 12th, 2009 filed in General
The University of Alabama at Birmingham could face an NCAA investigation of
its men’s basketball program, according to the Legal Schnauzer blog.
According to the report, “the inquiry dates to the end of Coach Mike
Anderson’s tenure (he’s now at Missouri) and the arrival of current
coach Mike Davis. NCAA investigators reportedly have visited with one
of Davis’ close personal associates.”

UAB’s basketball program has been its crown jewel‚ sparkling amidst the
garbage of the athletic department like the joke that is UAB football.
Unlike the football program, the basketball program was something the school and community could take pride in. NCAA problems could taint that too.

You can thank UAB’s leadership over the last twenty years for all these problems. President after president has failed the university, and now Carol Garrison is presiding over a sinking ship.

UAB football has been a rat hole where dollars were wasted, and students weren’t making academic progress. Last year, the football program lost eight scholarships and the basketball program lost two scholarships because of the school’s pathetic Academic Progress Rate (APR).

UAB was once known for its academics. It was a place where students attended college with the purpose of getting a degree—they weren’t interested in college sports, or the distractions of campus life. UAB students were a mix of adults returning for further education and dedicated undergraduates with a focus on academics.

The APR fiasco stained that positive reputation. UAB administrators in an attempt to irritate the University of Alabama betrayed its rich history to become a football factory—a failed football factory.

UAB is a football school where 10 people show up to watch a game. UAB is a football school that has done nothing in its existence to warrant continuation of Blazer football. It should be closed and those resources diverted to other University projects.

It would be nice to say those resources should go to the basketball
program—for years the basketball program brought honor to the school (despite the inane ramblings of Gene Bartow and his crackpot conspiracy theories.) That honor has evaporated through incompetent leadership at the highest levels.

The University of Alabama System should fire UAB president Carol Garrison before it is too late. Everyday new revelations emerge of trouble on Southside. To quote that great philosopher, it is time to “Nip it” before any more damage is done. Fire Garrison. End the football program, and if things don’t improve, end the basketball program. With a deep economic recession this is no time to waste money. Save UAB before it is too late. It is too important to the state to let it languish.

I think UAB should concentrate its efforts and resources on academics and research. They have been, and are, excellent at both.

As far as sports go, UAB just doesn’t have it. Football, especially, should stay at Tuscaloosa. Basketball for UAB, maybe.

I have fond memories of my days at UAB. It was strictly academics at that time and, one must admit, this is where the institution really stands out.

UAB has had strong leadership in the past, lets hope this great institution of higher learning will “see the light” at return to what it does best.

First of all, I think the fact that UAB hold its student-..athletes to the same academic standards as its regular students is in UAB’s favor.

Second, the UAT campus has absolutely no room to throw stones at someone in regards to NCAA violations of any sort. (Textbooks anyone? Affairs with secretaries?)

Third, UAB has had football for less than 20 years.
How can you possibly expect a school that is in the middle of two SEC schools, who have built up their fan bases over the past 100 years, to have overnight success?

Finally, UAT is a sess pool of dirt road road alumni and students who care more about getting drunk at a football game than they do about their future careers (working for UAB grads, of course).

Look here. Get off your stack of pallets with your Willie Stark preaching Cappy. You know damn well that in order to have D-1 Basketball in a mid-major conference - you must have D-1 Football. You cannot have Basketball only to stay in any respectable D-1 Conference. I will say that C-USA is not worth a damn and is essentially a Memphis - Texas geographic bastard child - it enables the Basketball Program. Until all hell breaks loose and realigns Conferences - this is the damn deal.
Just tell the truth and quit bullshitting.

Don’t know if it would be a ghost town, but it would definitely be less for lack of the experience. I did my first 2 years at UAB before
transferring to Bama. I really enjoyed the tranquillity in comparison
to a large school. At that time there were no athletic teams at all.
Purely education and a feather in the cap of the UA educational system.
I’m not about to say how long ago that was. Also both of my children were born at the medical center. Bama has their football, so I’ve always been proud of UAB basketball. A few years back I was sweating bullets when it appeared that Bama and UAB could possibly meet for the national championship after Bama beat #1 Stanford and UAB beat Kentucky. That would have been both fantastic and hell at the same time! I hate that it’s evolved into a back biting relationship. It’s almost like Bama - Auburn.

Legal Schnauzer? The hack that can’t even rabble rouse on anti-UAB message boards, and you use him as a source? Jesus Christ, tell you what, here’s a story for ya, “Capstone Report is front for Scientologist Nazi Zombies, to be raided by FBI soon.” Dime’ll getcha a dollar that it’d get more readers than this garbage.

Shane…this article is garbage. The crap magazines that post stories about aliens abducting people have better sources than you.

Dumbass, Shane’s name isn’t on the article. Anything he writes, has his name on it.

If you don’t like the source of the report fine, but it might lend
credibility to your position if UAB’s leadership wasn’t a train wreck.

Barnies,
what’s worse: free class credits or free textbooks? Is it obvious you
guys are trying to “deflect some attention away from Opelika”?

And what exactly is UAB? Isn’t that UA’s sisterly extension school,
originally created for the retards who couldn’t make it at UA?

36-0!

36-0……….Isnt it obvious ? Free textbooks appear to be worse as the NCAA is investigating you and not Auburn. Or didnt you know that ?

E. G. White Says:

Of course they’re not. Why would they want to investigate one of their narc schools? Additionally, boosters that had no qualms about bribing Jene Jelks to lie and incriminate Bama, would certainly be more than willing to ante up for a bribe to make the NCAA go away. Not making unsubstantiated.. accusations you understand. Just making an educated guess based on past performance! rtr!

Who is the Vicar of Christ?

The question to be asked as a new Pontiff is elected

By Richard Bennett

The Lord Jesus Christ entrusted the universal care of souls into the safekeeping of the Divine Person of the Holy Spirit. Concerning this Third Person of the Trinity who was to be His substitute, the Lord promised that, "when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment."[1] The Holy Spirit convicts of sin as He makes the sinner realize his lost condition and convicts him of his need of Christ's righteousness. He it is who brings a soul dead in sin to life. This miracle of grace is spoken of in Scripture as, "the exceeding greatness of His power to usward who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, which He wrought in Christ when He raised Him from the dead."[2] The majesty, greatness and indescribable power of the office of Vicar of Christ are such that a believer stands in awe of His divine Person. That any human being should lay claim to the office of Vicar of Christ seems totally absurd and blasphemous.

At this time, world attention is focused on the office of the man who will purport to take the place of Christ, as the election by Roman Catholic cardinals chooses the next incumbent. The Vatican officially teaches that the substitute for Christ Jesus is the Pope; the words of the official pronouncement are,

"The Pope, Bishop of Rome and Peter's successor, 'is the perpetual and visible source and foundation of the unity both of the bishops and of the whole company of the faithful.' 'For the Roman Pontiff, by reason of his office as Vicar of Christ, and as pastor of the entire Church has full, supreme, and universal power over the whole Church, a power which he can always exercise."[3]

As the world waits with great interest for the next successor to this position of "Vicar of Christ", the biblical imperative must be for the true office of the Vicar of Christ to be clearly seen together with the spiritual consequences of attempting to substitute a man to this divine position.

The True Vicar of Christ

Because there is a direct connection between the redemption of Christ and the ministry of the Holy Spirit, it is a soul damning error to mistake the work of the Holy Spirit as Vicar of Christ with the position or work of any man. As Christ Jesus had been the Master, Counselor and Guide to the believers, He promised to send the Holy Spirit as His substitute so that He might abide with them for ever."[4] In believers' lives the Holy Spirit has full, immediate, and universal influence, as the Scripture so wonderfully teaches, "now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord."[5] The work of the Spirit is transforming; we are changed from one degree of glorious grace unto another, until by that same grace one day we will be perfect in with Him in glory forever. How much therefore should Christians prize the full and complete ministry of the Holy Spirit! In the face of these awesome truths concerning the role and ministry of the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ, it is horrendous to learn that the Vatican proclaims, "The Pope enjoys, by divine institution, supreme, full, immediate, and universal power in the care of souls."[6] Persuading men and women that Christ the Lord left a mortal man to be His vicar on earth attempts to gainsay the very purpose of Christ Jesus.

The History of the claim to be Vicar of Christ

This outlandish assertion came relatively late in the history of the Papacy. To begin with, the Bishop of Rome claimed to be the vicar of Caesar and his successors the rightful heirs to the Caesars. The city that had been the seat of power for the Roman Empire became the city for the Bishop of Rome to exercise his authority. Gradually other Bishops and national monarchs accepted him as vicar and successor to Caesar with the same supreme title of "Pontifex Maximus". Next the Bishops of Rome claimed to be "The vicar of the prince of the apostles"[7], that is, the vicar of Peter.[8] Thus in the early fifth century Bishop Innocent I (401-417AD) insisted that Christ had delegated supreme power to Peter and made him the Bishop of Rome. Following this he held that the Bishop of Rome as Peter's successor was entitled to exercise Peter's power and prerogatives. Boniface III, who became Bishop of Rome in 607, established himself as "Universal Bishop", thus claiming to be vicar and master of all other bishops. It was not until the eighth century, however, that the particular title "Vicar of the Son of God"[9] was found in the fraudulent document called "The Donation of Constantine".[10] Although this notorious document was proven false in the early sixteenth century, the Bishops of Rome have used the title "Vicar of Christ" since the eighth century. This title has been the Pope's supreme claim to spiritual and temporal supremacy. The taste of divine power, with which the title resonates, has proven to be addictive. The "Vicar of Christ" is able to recognize no authority other than his own. He looks upon himself as Master of all, and boldly proclaims, "The First See is judged by no one."[11]

The Counterfeit Vicar of Christ

Rome's alleged office of Christ's Vicar on earth is so all embracing and complicated that one man cannot exercise "supreme, full, immediate, and universal power". Thus the single man who purports to be invested with the office needs a vast hierarchy to command. The pyramid of power that constitutes his office of the "Vicar of Christ" consists of cardinals, patriarchs, major archbishops, metropolitans, coadjutor archbishops, diocesan bishops, coadjutor bishops, episcopal vicar, eparches, apostolic vicars, apostolic prefects, apostolic administrators and vicars general.[12] And when the king pin to all this hierarchical structure dies, the running of the office continues but on a different basis. Under the present law of the Vatican, on the death of the Pope the administration passes to "the Chamberlain", that is a Cardinal appointed by the Pope during his lifetime to act as Papal administrator after his death. Canon Law specifically forbids this Chamberlain from introducing any innovation in the running of the Church while the office of Pope is vacant (Canon 335).

The counterfeit nature of the Pope's claim to be "the Vicar of Christ" is shown by his doctrine and deeds. The key role of the True Vicar of Christ is to glorify Christ, "He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you."[13] The sending of the Spirit was the glorifying of Christ. God the Father glorifies Christ Jesus in heaven, and the Spirit glorifies Him on earth. All the gifts and graces of the Holy Spirit are to glorify Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ promised the Apostles, "when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth."[14] God's truth is an indissoluble, balanced and harmonious whole. In the Bible we have "all truth", in this the Holy Spirit truly glorifies Jesus Christ. In stark contrast, the Pope claims to possess "infallible teaching authority". This neither glorifies Christ nor honors the Spirit of truth.[15] Also the Pope, as "the Vicar of Christ" teaches "rebirth" by baptism, which demeans the glory of Christ. [16]

By crucifixes, rosaries, and scapulars, the earthly Vicar purports to fortify men and women against the assaults of Satan. He also maintains that indulgences can shorten the sufferings of souls in purgatory. While presiding over substantially the richest financial institution in the world, he maintains and advocates vows of poverty. Even as thousands of souls are corrupted by unbridled filthiness, he defends the vows of celibacy for his priests. By autonomous proclamations he releases men and women from their marriage vows in self-declared annulments.[17] None of these deeds glorify Christ Jesus the Lord. The major enemy of Christ and His Gospel, however, is not materialism nor is it lust, but rather the spiritual pride and the apostasy of the very one who pretends to be His "Vicar". The first lie of Satan, "ye shall be as gods"[18] reaches its full fruition in the Papal claim to be "Vicar of Christ". By this the words of the Apostle Paul are literally fulfilled, "who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God…showing himself that he is God."[19]

A Successor to the Earthly "Vicar of Christ"

When one Pope dies another one is elected. For the election of a Pope a part of the Vatican palace is walled off. Access to the conclave, where the election is held, is through a door locked from the inside by the Cardinal Chamberlain and from the outside by the Marshall of the conclave. There are some openings provided for the passage of food, guarded from within and without. All communication with the outside world is strictly forbidden under pain of loss of office and ipso facto excommunication. Presented to the world is a gathering of walled-in Cardinals dressed in scarlet with the given purpose of electing a new "Vicar of Christ". The whole scene gives a picture of smoke and mirrors. White smoke from the burning of ballots is the traditional way of informing the world that a new Pope has been elected. It comes out of the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican. This is just part of the ostentatious spectacle of the Roman Church in the traditional election of a new Pope.

The man in the street Catholic may deviate from his church on such issues as contraception, extramarital sex, homosexuality, abortion, confession and the obligation to attend Sunday Mass, but as a Catholic, he shelters serenely in his belief that he has the "Holy Father". Removing any lingering doubt the Vatican Web page states, "'THE HOLY FATHER' The Roman Pontiff, as the successor of Peter, is the perpetual and visible principle and foundation of unity of both the bishops and of the faithful."[20] The Catholic is thus enslaved to a system by the assurance that he has "The Holy Father" and the "Vicar of Christ" in the person of his Pope. Both assertions are utter blasphemy before the One Holy Father in heaven and the One Vicar Christ, the Holy Spirit.

"Habemus papam" we have a Papa!

At the present, the election of the next Roman Pontiff occupies the minds of Catholics as well as, it would seem, most of the secular world. One newspaper assures its readers that "No other event in human society can compare with a papal conclave in its combination of tradition, drama, ceremony and pomp, and significance. … After what seems to be an endless wait, the senior cardinal-deacon appears on a balcony overlooking St. Peter's Square and announces: "Habemus papam!"[21] Thus the climax of the drama and all the accompanying pageantry is the pronouncement - "Habemus papam!" "we have a Papa!"[22] Catholics and the world are told that they have a spiritual Papa to look after them. Christ Jesus constantly spoke about His Father, the word "Father" was seventy times on His lips to show true believers that they have a Father, a Father in Heaven - "my Father, and your Father… my God, and your God."[23] Distinctively true believers have an Abba Father, in the words of the Apostle, "for ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father."[24] It is precisely because believers have an Abba Father that they are commanded not to call any man "Father" in the spiritual sense. Thus the Lord's command, "call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven."[25] The Lord Christ Jesus prayed to the only "Holy Father" that exists, "Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are."[26] The Lord used His usual appellation "Father" but prefixed it with the word "Holy". He wanted to emphasize the absolute perfection of the Father's nature. So intimate and worshipful is this, that in a spiritual sense a true believer will only use the words "The Holy Father" of God alone! The Roman Pontiff not only takes to himself the office of "Vicar of Christ" but also the very title of the Godhead, "The Holy Father". We must therefore ask the question that Apostle John asks, "Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son."[27] In assuming these titles to himself, the Pope shows that he truly is "a vicar of Christ" in the biblical sense of the Antichrist!

Conclusion and Personal Response

Today some compromised and eclectic "Evangelicals" stop their ears and close their eyes to the true Vicar of Christ and mindlessly agree with the festivities that accompany the white smoke arising from the Vatican. Ignored once again are the questions: Whom do we honor? Whom do we fear? Is it God or man? As the world and false Evangelicals bow in admiration and anticipation of a new Pontiff, we might well take a moment to pause and consider where we personally stand as believers in the One Lord Christ Jesus and the One Holy Spirit.

Presented to the world is the office of Pope. The one who holds the office claims to mediate between God and man and to hold the keys of heaven and hell. Most appallingly he takes to himself the office of "Vicar of Christ" adding even the attribute of infallibility to his position[28], demanding that "a religious respect of intellect and will be paid to his teaching."[29] The Papal arrogance tallies well with the Scripture's prediction for such claims, "I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High."[30] The words inscribed in the Pope's official miter are "Vicarius Filii Dei", Latin for "Vicar of the Son of God". Since there can be but one Vicar of Christ who is infinite, supreme, omnipotent, and all sufficient, the earthly pretender can be none other than a self energized Apostate system and will eventually be judged and utterly condemned by the Lord.[31] The ecumenical allies of the earthly Vicar multiply like mushrooms, yet we do not fear not because we know that in Him we are "more than conquerors through Him that loved us."[32]. Our victory is assured "for whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith."[33] The "Evangelicals and Catholics Together" (ECT) accord determined its own condemnation, as light has no fellowship with darkness. It is time however for us as "True Evangelicals Together in the Lord" to express ourselves!

It is the will of God that every true believer "should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints."[34] Those of us who cling to Christ and His Word alone and who are saved before the all-Holy God by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, with all glory and praise to God alone must give voice to our profession of faith. At the time of Elijah there was a call to the people of God to make a stand for the true God or to follow Baal. In a similar way Joshua asked the people to decide between the gods of the land and the true God of Israel. In our day, much more than at the time of Elijah or Joshua, it is urgent that we take seriously the command our Lord gave us to personally give witness as to where we stand. Before and after a Papal election, the world will look at the TV shows and listen to news broadcasts, amidst the fanfare, pageantry and pomp. The media momentum will enhance the power and the glory of the so-called earthly Vicar of Christ. In the midst of all of it as we prepare for these events, I solemnly ask you to make clear where you stand. What we ask is that in a few sentences you express your personal faith in the one Lord Jesus Christ and His one Vicar the divine Holy Spirit, together with a personal resolution to obey our Lord's command to "contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints."

We will publish in our Webpage under the title, "True Evangelicals Together in the Lord" the statements that we receive from believers across the world. It now really is time for decisive commitments to Christ Jesus and His Gospel. Rather than lamenting the false accords that have deceived Christians in recent times, why not join your personal signature to a true accord in Christ Jesus to be faithful to Him, by His grace and to His glory!
