Apologies for the late note, but driving down to Charlottesville last night, EPID's van hit a deer. The members of Dearland and crew are all OK, but sadly, the van and deer are not and Dearland will not be able to make the show tonight. Elvis, who was traveling with AA Bondy, will be performing a solo set. Other transportation options have been discovered and Dearland will join up for the tour in Asheville.

This is a bad news/good news situation:

Unfortunately, due to illness, Other Lives are no longer able to play the Troubadour show on October 3rd. Get better soon Jesse.

Fortunately, Matt Vasquez of the excellent Delta Spirit is able to come up from SD and play a solo set that night.

Get your tkts now. They're going fast.

XL Recordings announce the release of ELVIS PERKINS IN DEARLAND ‘The Doomsday EP’ on October 20th-MP3 OUT Today
FALL TOUR DATES CONFIRMED INCLUDING LEVON HELM'S MIDNIGHT RAMBLE AND MONTREAL’S YELLOW BIRD PROJECT/HOUSING WORKS BENEFIT

In March, NPR’s “Morning Edition” aired a feature on Elvis Perkins In Dearland that focused heavily on the track “Doomsday” from the bands self-titled album (released on March 10 of this year).  On October 20th, XL Recordings is going to release The Doomsday EP which features the album version of the track, a newly recorded slower version of the song and 4 additional tracks. The EP was recorded June 23-25th at Machines with Magnets in Pawtucket, RI.

Tracklisting:

Doomsday
Gypsy Davy (Traditional)
Stay Zombie Stay
Stop Drop Rock and Roll
Weeping Mary (J.P. Reese)
Slow Doomsday

Elvis Perkins had this to say about the forthcoming EP,

“We call this thing The Doomsday EP for obvious reasons, and its middle name to which it also answers is The EP of the Id. Being drawn to the many faces of the American strain it seems we have more or less subconsciously produced a collection speaking to/and or from several of them at once. It's a document of impulses sleeping egos and their superiors let pass to tape. I myself didn't know what these songs sounded like in the hands of EPID until they were processed and played back. You have a song that arrived like the rest of us by boat, a selection from the Sacred Harp, a rock 'n roll heralding the eternal advent of rock 'n roll, an ode to the soul of the undead and, finally (and firstly), two takes on a single song called Doomsday, one which comes from our March release and the other which leans in the direction of its original conception as something of a gospel number. And here they all are, risen from their cribs and graves, under one moonlight while their folks and undertakers look the other way.”

An MP3 of "Slow Doomsday' is now available - please download, post and pass along!

In other exciting news, Elvis Perkins In Dearland have just been confirmed to play the now legendary Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble on October 31.

The Midnight Ramble Sessions, a series of live performances at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, has been organized by Helm since 2000 and past guests have included Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello, Dr. John and Allan Toussaint.    For more information and tickets, check out http://www.levonhelm.com/midnight_ramble.htm <http://www.levonhelm.com/midnight_ramble.htm>

Following their performance at The Ramble, Elvis Perkins In Dearland will head off on a tour of the US that will take them to the south and then back up the East Coast.  Support will be provided by AA Bondy and Bowerbirds.  The dates are listed below along with various shows they are doing on the West Coast in September/October. Elvis will be doing a solo show at NYC’s Housing Works Bookstore Café in conjunction with Montreal’s Yellow Bird Project on Sept 2nd.   All proceeds will benefit Yellow Bird Project and its network of charities, and Housing Works, the nation’s largest community-based AIDS services organization.  Tickets may be purchased at www.yellowbirdproject.com <http://www.yellowbirdproject.com/> .  Elvis has already been a huge supporter of the Yellow Bird Project including designing a t-shirt for them, with all of the proceeds going to the World Wildlife Fund.

Musical visionary types take care of their own. Mark Mulcahy was the frontman for the 1980s Connecticut-based alt-rock band Miracle Legion, who released a few hard-to-find albums of R.E.M.-esque college rock jangle before breaking up in the mid-90s. He also led Polaris, the band who did the music for the beloved Nickelodeon kids' show "The Adventures of Pete & Pete". Since then, he's released three solo albums.

Late last year, Mulcahy's wife Melissa died unexpectedly, leaving him to take care of his three-year-old twin daughters. If Mulcahy is going to keep making music, he'll need help. And fortunately, he's getting it.

On September 29, Shout! Factory will release Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy, a tribute album to Mulcahy that will also serve as a benefit for him. An amazingly stacked lineup of indie rock greats have contributed their versions ofMulcahy songs. Thom Yorke takes on "All for the Best", Michael Stipe turns in his version of "Everything's Coming Undone", and the National handle "Ashamed of the Story I Told". Dinosaur Jr., Mercury Rev, and Frank Black also contribute songs.
