I just released MyspaceBar 0.1.5.1, the same thing as the last one, except it works with Firefox 1.5, which was released yesterday.

It still has some bugs, such as the Friends button doesn't work. Myspace changed the link and I haven't updated it yet. I'm sure some other links have changed, so I'll fix any of those as well in 1.6 or 2.0.

All the other enhancements will be in a later version.

So, nothing new, just works with the latest version of your favorite browser. If you haven't got it yet, Get Firefox 1.5 Final

Keep up with the latest MyspaceBar news with the MyspaceBar  (rss feed). You can add it as a Live Bookmark in Firefox's Latest Headlines folder, or add it to your own custom folder for use with Sage, another great extension for Firefox.

I've recovered my ability to post in the groups and forums after a month-long wait, so you should see me around a bit more. I have no idea how that happened, but thanks to the great mods Schika and Saint Jimmy for restoring my account to normal.

Now it can be like a menu or a toolbar, you can make it the way you want it to be.

I added you because you seemed to like Firefox, or you're just cool like that.  I hope I didn't add anyone twice, but it's probably inevitable, since Myspace doesn't warn me about that.

I'm hoping that MyspaceBar will reach a critical mass, where enough people know about it that they discover it themselves. With 1500-2500 users, it's getting there. But that's just a drop in the bucket compared to Myspace's 20 million users with ~2 million that use Firefox.

If you'd like to help, you can add your friends to the MyspaceBar group, send out a bulletin telling your friends, or just let your Firefox-using friends know about the toolbar.

I just released version 0.1.1 of MyspaceBar, getting the easy changes out of the way, while the bigger changes will be in version 0.2.0.

Changes include:

• Thinner toolbar, takes up less space
• Links to all group categories
• Links to all classifeds categories
• Links to MyspaceBar group, blog, MozUpdate, and MozDev pages
• 50% smaller installation file

The extension has been uploaded to MozDev, but will take some time to be mirrored to all download locations. Mozilla Update is slow or down right now, but I will be releasing there shortly.

Automatic Update should work as well, as soon as all the mirrors catch up. Until then, updating may produce errors.

After resting up a bit after the holidays, I'm beginning to think about putting together a new version of MyspaceBar. I think the next version will be 0.2.0, which will include at least the full list of group and classified categories, plus a couple of new links to the MyspaceBar group, basically what would have gone into 0.1.1.

But I figure I might as well go for a bigger release. So these are some features I'm considering for 0.2.0:

• Customizable toolbar - DONE
  
  so you can remove the buttons you don't want or move everything onto the navbar or menubar
  
  
• Automatic login
  
  there are a few ways to do this, so depending how complicated the code gets, it may have to wait for a later version
  
  
• Context menu
  
  so you can right-click to open in a new tab, new window, etc.
  
  
• Notifications - IN PROGRESS
  
  for new mail, new friend requests, etc. Still thinking about the best place to put it: on the toolbar itself, near where gmail notifier and adblock icons reside, or in some type of sidebar. Or some combination of those.
  
  
• More icons
  
  I have several, but not a complete set. The important part is that they are either custom created for the toolbar, or are GPL-licensed (free for redistribution).

If we have any graphic designers using MyspaceBar who would like to have some of their work used in a popular app, send me a message. I'd love the help.

Now that we have over 1000 MyspaceBar users, a group for support and feature requests seems like a good idea. I am starting work on MyspaceBar 0.2.0 as well, and would love to hear your ideas.
