The Flobots Return... Who will turn the tide?

When we last left Flobots, there was a war going on for your mind. Apathy, fear, and militarism reigned. Many people failed to understand their own power.
 
Flobots responded by waking people up, bringing them together, and telling them they were not alone. They used broad-brush strokes to paint giant murals supporting peace, hope, and change. On the charts and at the ballot box, these slogans had an effect. The mood of the populace shifted.

Now, those murals have begun to crack and fade. People are taking a closer look at what's behind the slogans, and seeking to come to terms with what they find. Exhaustion. Hypocrisy. Ego. Frustration. Quagmire. Wars with no exit strategy. Lifestyles that are non sustainable.  American flag bandanas made in China. Everywhere, we are encountering limits.
 
Enter the Flobots once more. The situation is more complicated now. The populace is cautious and jaded. The old slogans will not suffice. What is needed is new story.

SURVIVAL STORY is a vision of hope for a world facing its limits. While others revel in the dystopian, the Flobots remain committed to their ability to rise together. Navigating the coming years will require new tools. It will require narratives that cause us to reexamine our priorities, redefine wealth, and re-inspire ourselves. It will require that we come together in the face of death and write the story of our own survival.

Jonny 5 here, on behalf of the Flobots. I know it’s been a while since you’ve heard from us. Wondering why? Well, we’ve been working hard on a number of new things.  To name a few: a new album, a new show, and a new plan.  Add it all up, and it’s  a new movement.

A movement, of course, requires people. People who are not satisfied with the world as it is. People who have a vision of how the world could be. People with time, talents, and tools to invest right here, and right now. Are you one of those people?

If you are, then we need you! In the next few months, we'll be finishing up our album. Meanwhile, Fight With Tools Street Teams will be meeting up all over the country and learning how to make change on a community level. It’s called the “Activate Tour*”, and this is your official invitation!

Flobots

*Just to be clear this is not a concert or a band appearance. It's a chance to organize for something much larger!

The Flobots have been presented the 2009 Cesar Chavez Leadership Award. The award is granted to an individual or organization that embodies the ideals of  César Chávez.

The language of the award states:A demonstrated willingness to sacrifice for the good  of others:Demonstrated history of nonviolent struggle against injustice.

• Engaged in empowering the community though organizing.
    
• Fighting for the peace and dignity of his or her community.
    
• Fights to better the lives of working people.

History of leadership in organizing:Volunteer activism/organizing with the underprivileged and underrepresented.   

• One who educates and involves others in and of social struggles..
    
• Persistence against great odds.
    
• Leads by example.
