Live vom Sonar Festival in Barcelona!

Die Sónar 2007.
La Boum de Luxe hat die 3 Kollegen Brunner, Glashüttner und Schlachter ausgeschickt um die Kunde zu verbreiten. Festival Halbzeit und es gibt schon schwerste Diskrepanzen aufgrund der ominpräsenz von gelben lachenden Kreisen.
Smiley, er ist das Logo der diesjährigen Sonar, und, von der Eintrittskarte über Bierbecher bis hin zu Souvenirschweißbändern, überall zu finden.
Der Kollege Glashüttner, glühender New Rave Verfechter, findet das ziemlich gut und ist schon von oben bis unten mit Smiley Stickern zugeklebt. Er wird für diese Ausgabe von La Boum de Luxe unter anderen mit Simian Mobile Disco, Dave Clark und Justice die Lage der Dinge besprechen.
Die Kollegen Schlachter und Brunner finden das ganze New Rave Zeug nicht so toll, aber ihr Meckern verhallt gegen den Enthusiamsus des Kollegen Glashüttners.
Kollegin Brunner wird, on Air, mit den Veranstaltern besprechen unter welchen Gesichtpunkten Europas wichtigstes Festival für elektronische Musik kuratiert wird. Sie wird Kode9 huldigen, Dizzee Rascal, der sein neues Album Maths and English vorstellt, nachstellen, und mit den österreichischen Vertretern auf der diesjährigen Sonar plaudern.
Kollege Schlachter, was macht der eigentlich?
Das weiß keiner so genau. Er sagt zumindest dass er sich um all die feinen DJ Sets und Mitschnitte kümmert die ihr von 21.30 bis nach Mitternacht hören werdet. Außerdem wird er Modeselektor in unserem kleinen feinen improvisierten Studio auf der Sonar empfangen.

Richard Eigner war Participant in Melbourne und produziert Tracks, die sich zwischen den Eckpfeilern "Jazz", "Minimal" und "Electronica" bewegen. Einst in Musikvideos für I-Wolf und Mika involviert und sechs Monate als Studiosklave von Patrick Pulsinger tätig, verhilft er nun Tibcurl zum guten Ton und Patrick Wolf, Polman Reisen, Erdgas zum richtigen Beat. Neben der Arbeit am Label Wald Entertainment verbringt er die meiste Zeit mit den Groupies der österreichischen Boyband-Hoffnung MeTrue. Weitere Infos hier. Morgen, Samstag, zu Gast bei der 4 Jahre Bounce Party im Flex sind Rossi B and Luca.
This is no hype. Rossi B and Luca have the streets and more locked. Rossi B took to the decks at 17 and just a year later joined premier station London Underground. It was by chance he stumbled across a mix on the internet by DJ Luca. After getting in touch a solid friendship was instantly born and they joined forces to become one of the biggest up and coming duos. But they aren't the average UK garage team. Although now firm faces at UK Garage clubs in the UK and abroad, Luca's roots lie in Hip Hop, R&B and dancehall where as Rossi's music history stems from jungle and popular dance. Their combined influences make for the distinct and unmistakable sound of Rossi B and Luca, flinging down everything from Grime, Bassline House and Old skool with a few surprises for good measure.

Face Down Ass Up! Am 24. dieses Monats startet der regelmäßige Bounce Club im Fluc und als erster Gast der grandiose englische Booty Turntablist DJ Guy. Vorab hat er einen Mix für angefertigt. KILLER!!!!

DJ Guy is Europe's leading booty turntablist, doing what Detroit Ghettotech dons such as DJ Godfather, DJ Assault and Disco D do but coming from London with his own take on the Detroit DJing style. He is one half of the Non Stop DJs duo who came to the attention of booty fans across the globe in late 2003 with their infamous "All Cylinders" mix, featuring over 112 tracks mixed live in NSD's trademark 2-deck + Ableton style, with DJ Guy scratching and juggling the booty-shaking records alongside DJ Brelson on laptop.
The Detroit booty DJing that influenced DJ Guy's style mixes up party tracks from Miami bass to electro to techno to ghetto house to Baltimore breaks to hiphop, all scratched and blended together with the kind of turntable tricks that you only normally see in hiphop. DJ Guy is one of a rare breed of DJs who can keep a dancefloor hot while making jaws drop with his trademark turntable skills.

Janne Hatula from Finland is the figure behind the artist names Fanu and FanuSamurai, the former of which concentrates on drum and bass, while the latter produces downtempo-oriented projects. Fanu got into jungle and drum and bass in the mid-nineties, which he considered seminal time in terms of shaping the backbone of drum and bass as well as his own drum-and-bass way of thinking. It was artists like Photek, Tek9, Source Direct, Goldie, Roni Size and labels such as Metalheadz and Good Looking Records, to mention the most important ones, that were largely responsible for making Fanu's style what it is today.

"I'm creating today's drum and bass with the aesthetics that come from the past," he says. "More often than not, there has to be proper breakbeat action in the music that I write because what blew me away in old drum and bass was the mind-blowing syncopation, and for me, that was what made jungle and d&b what they were back then."

Those are the elements that Fanu definitely cherishes with great pride. "What is equally important in music is what I call emotional resonance (he admits he picked that one from DJ Shadow); there is often this certain level of depth in the tunes that I find myself liking the most. Imaginative soundworlds are where it's at!"

Fanu's unique style has definitely made an impact on today's drum and bass audience. So far, he has released music on Subtitles, Commercial Suicide, Offshore, Breakin', Warm Communications, Subtle Audio, Thermal, Forestry Service , LoCuts, Soothsayer, 13 Music, and now his own record label, Lightless Recordings.

  Lightless is Fanu's own imprint for the style that he is pushing: deep atmospheres and dirty fat breaks. The first release hit the shops in July 2006.

To close the circle, Fanu also DJs to represent the styles to the fullest: so far, he's been called to bring the breakbeat pressure to England, Hungary, Germany, Holland, Poland, Belgium, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, as well as his homeland. "I like to keep the set varied: I play different styles and switch between the moods as I think it's important to keep the crowd interested. I've always found the unexpectable DJs the best, and that's why I am like myself when I get behind the decks. Nothing beats seeing the crowd go mental for tunes you love the most!"

finna has made his first musical steps as a jazztrumpetplayer in his school's blues bigband. he constantly followed his urge to discover new styles and after spending some time in london (98) and Australia (00) he finally discovered his passion for jungle and breakcore music. after returning to austria, he joined break:form and gigs in graz and slovenia followed soon. At the time when break:form split he met tetsuo (shellbeach) at the styrian dj contest 2002. Since then they?re making music together. In 2005 new justice league was foundet together with tetsuo, b.l.o and step. finna?s always got a strong liking for ragga-breakcore-jungle and heavy-bassline-tunes, although funkytunes did it to him lately. in the near future he will unite these styles in his own productions.

and what's the news on the beach? finna and b.l.o will try to interpret their usual jungle-breakcore-acid sets in their very own style.

Minimal-Pionier und Kompakt Köln Urgestein Reinhard Voigt war bei Michael Schmid im FM4 Studio und erzählt über das Leben in Köln, die Krise des Techno und die neue Kompakt Total 7. Auf der aktuellen Werkschau der Kölner-Minimal-Werkstatt mit Paape, Koehncke, Koze und Modernist an Bord blüht die Liebe zur Geraden Base-Drum wie eh und je, die starren Konzepte von früher gehören aber der Vergangenheit an. Wir verlosen zwei Exemplare der letzten Compilation "Total 7" an. Die Frage stellen wir On Air.

Sind DJ Mannix und DJ WaX, stammen aus Wien und wurden zum "Double Jackpot" im Jahre 2005.

GRIME SPECIAL
GRIME PAYS ist eine Riege von Musikliebhabern aus Wien, die sich, wie der Name schon sagt, ganz und gar dem Grime verschrieben hat. Grime bezeichnet einen rohen, aggressiven und düsteren aus Großbritannien stammenden Musikstil, der seine Wurzeln im Hip Hop und der elektronischen Musik, insbesondere dem 2Step, Drum'n'Bass und Dancehall hat. Besonders geprägt wurde Grime von zwei Mitgliedern der Roll Deep Crew, nämlich Wiley und Dizzee Rascal.

Grime Pays präsentiert mit Boy Better Know den ersten Live Grime Act in Österreich. Boy Better Know ist das größte unabhängige Grime Label Englands. 2005 gegründet, haben schon Artists wie Wiley ihr Album dort veröffentlicht. JME, der Label Chef und neue Star am Grime Himmel kommt am 23. Sept nach Wien in den "the Zoo" Club um dieses neue Genre endlich auch in Österreich zu präsentieren. Skepta, ebenfalls auf Boy Better Know gesignt, hat mit dem Hit "Duppy" allen bewiesen, dass er zu den Besten gehört. Dj Maximum, der Tour Dj von Roll Deep (einer der renommiertesten Grime Crews), unterstützt die beiden mit den freshesten und grimigsten Beats. Sein neuer Mixt in La Boum Deluxe.

DJ Antax (twenty4seven.cc)
Wie fast jeder Salzburger, war dort der junge, mittlerweile in Wien lebende Max aka DJ Antax, in "trancig-angehauchten Ecken" unterwegs. Doch lernte er weiter Musik zu verstehen und ließ uns einen hervorragenden Mix, welcher eher in die kantige Grossstadt als an den Strand von Goa passt, zukommen.

Seit ich Hip Hop liebe und mich für Techno interessiere, träum ich von der perfekten Schnittmenge aus Tribe Vibes und La boum de luxe. Dabrye - ein Detroiter Avantgarde Hip Hop Producer, der als James T. Cotton auch Techno veröffentlicht - könnte diesen Traum wahr machen:
"Fünf Jahre nach seinem Debütalbum ist Dabrye, der Meister des minimalistischen Sägezahn-Bounce-Beats, am Ziel angekommen: Er macht - endlich! - richtigen HipHop, mit einer Kleinbusladung voller Rapper auf seinen Beats. Sein neues Album: "Two/ Three".
Der Mensch hinter dieser Platte ist nun nicht gerade ein HipHop-Produzent, wie man ihn sich so vorstellt. Obwohl: Vielleicht ist er gerade für Teile des HipHops von heute ziemlich typisch. Mullinix ist, wie er selbst sagt, eher introvertiert und schüchtern. Der 27-Jährige wohnt im linksliberalen Unistädtchen Ann Arbor (zu Deutsch: "Annes Laube") im US-Bundesstaat Michigan, 40 Autominuten von Detroit entfernt und im Volksmund auch "Tree Town" genannt. In dieser Stadt arbeitet Mullinix immer noch nebenberuflich im Second-Hand-Plattenladen Encore in Downtown. Und eben dort sitzt auch das Label Ghostly International sowie dessen Sublabel Spectral Sound, für deren gefühlten halben Output Mullinix zur Zeit unter verschiedenen Namen veranwortlich ist.
So veröffentlicht er dort unter seinem Geburtsnamen elegische Warp-Electronica, als James T. Cotton produziert er rohe, unbehauene, angerostete Jack Trax, irgendwo zwischen Sleezy D.s "I've lost Control" und belgischem New Beat.
  
 
 
  Am erfolgreichsten und auch am aufregendsten ist jedoch Mullinix' Musik als Dabrye. Er nennt dafür eine wenig überraschende Mischung aus HipHop-Produzentenlegenden (Marley Marl, Eric B, Timbaland), Elektronik-Bands (DAF, Throbbing Gristle, Liaisons Dangereuses) und minimal-seriellen E-Musik-Komponisten der klassischen Moderne (Steve Reich, Terry Riley, John Cage) als Einfluss."
