You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more unusual circus, or father-daughter performing duo. The Moscow Cat Theatre is just that: a travelling show of cats that perform amazing tricks for the owners who love and train them. Everybody in Russia may be used to seeing cats perform tricks, as the theatre’s manager explains in this funny, charming film, but felines walking tightropes, crossing the stage on giant balls and walking upside down is not a common sight in most countries. As a balalaika and accordion circus score plays in the background, Creative Director Vladimir and his daughter Maria combine their love of cats and stage to create a captivating act and illustrate the tricks of the trade – giving new meaning to the expression ‘herding cats’.

This was really amazing to see and so cute!

Subject: Nutro Pet Food - FDA Investigates due to deaths & illness
Due to deaths & illness, FDA investigates Nutro pet food

Due to deaths & illness, FDA investigates Nutro pet food
by Therese on April 20, 2009

in Cats, Dogs, Pet Health
Pet owners have been complaining about Nutro for over two years; saying their cats and dogs have either become very ill (and survived) or died after eating the Nutro products. Finally, the word is that the FDA is investigating the pet
food, an investigation could prove to be criminal or civil in nature.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has confirmed that the agency is investigating NUTRO pet food, following a series of unexplained illnesses and deaths. Consumers have been complaining for more than two years that their pets have become ill after eating NUTRO products; many have recovered when they were
switched to other foods. The company has steadfastly denied that its food is to
blame.

Until now, the FDA has been mum about whether it was actively investigating the
company. Today, the FDA’s Division of Freedom of Information confirmed the
agency has an ongoing investigation into NUTRO — and said that investigation
could be criminal or civil in nature. The office did not elaborate on the nature
or focus of that investigation.

[...]

ConsumerAffairs.com filed its Freedom of Information request for NUTRO records
last year after we uncovered a worrisome trend among dogs and cats across the
country. An analysis of our complaints revealed that scores of pets from
California to South Carolina had experienced sudden and recurring bouts of
diarrhea, vomiting, and other digestive problems.

The only common denominator among those dogs and cats was NUTRO pet food. In
nearly every case, we also learned the pets’ conditions improved once their
owners stopped feeding them NUTRO pet food.

ConsumerAffairs.com continues to receive complaints about NUTRO from dog and cat
owners nationwide. In the past year, we’ve received nearly 500 complaints from
pet owners who say their dogs or cats suddenly became ill after eat NUTRO. The
problems these pets have experienced are similar: vomiting, diarrhea, and other
digestive issues.

[...]

NUTRO defends its products and insists its food is safe. Many NUTRO customers
also tout the food, saying their pets have had no problems. And veterinarians
say several factors can cause gastrointestinal problems in dogs and cats,
including changes in diet, newly developed sensitivities to pet foods, and viral
infections.

But pet owners who contact us on a nearly daily basis are convinced something is
wrong with NUTRO’s food. And they say it’s no coincidence that so many dogs and
cats have become sick — with the same symptoms — after eating various flavors of
that pet food.

Angel created this Puppy Mill Video for Fur Angels and I think this is powerful. Aiden and Poncho Villa, as you know, were rescued from puppy mills and we're still waiting on the rest we committed to pull and taking into our rescue. But I think this is powerful and a must see for everyone.

I am an animal Rescuer

This passion fills my heart,

I have a love for the innocent

But that is just the start.

I was born to help God’s creatures

I was put here to meet their needs,

I was meant to ease their suffering

To break the habit of bad deeds.

I take the helpless, homeless & unwanted

And shower them with care,

Find ways to comfort and feed them

Even when resources are bare.

I have bought cat food before my own

And have shared all my blankets too,

I have given my heart to all of them

Crying when there was nothing more to do.

Hugging the dirtiest of fur

Is as natural as can be,

Holding a lifeless body in your arms

Is the hardest part for me,

But knowing that they had a moment

Of love and peace before they died,

Makes all of it worthwhile

Even though we’re crushed inside

I may be seen as the rescuer

But they have rescued me in return,

For through them I know unconditional

Love and compassion I did learn.

They seem so eternally grateful

For the little I provide,

How can I give up now

When there’s many at my side.

We are growing in numbers

And some day we will prevail,

But for now we must continue on

For them, we cannot fail

My purse is always empty

And the laws feel like such bull,

But I would never give it up

For my heart is always full.

Yes I am an animal rescuer

I will be so until I die,

Spreading love and comfort

To all creatures that pass me by.

BYE BABY

No more lonely cold nights or hearing that I'm bad
No more growling belly from the meals I never had.
No more scorching sunshine with a water bowl that's dry.
No more complaining neighbors about the noise when I cry.
No more hearing "shut up", "get down" or "get out of here"!
No more feeling disliked, only peace is in the air.
Euthanasia is a blessing, though some still can't see
why I was ever born If I weren't meant to be.
My last day of living was the best I ever had.
Someone held me very close, I could see she was very sad.
I kissed the lady's face, and she hugged me as she cried.
I wagged my tail to thank her, then I closed my eyes and died.

Oppose Horse Slaughter in Illinois

Dear Jan,

We urgently need your help to stop H.B. 583, a bill that would legalize horse slaughter in Illinois once again. The Illinois House will vote on H.B. 583 tomorrow!

From the auction where horses are purchased by killer buyers to the process of slaughter itself, every moment of the slaughter pipeline is frightening and stressful for horses. Frequently trucked long distances without food, rest and water in crowded double-decker trailers meant for shorter neck species like cows and pigs, injury, fighting and even death are frequent occurrences. We cannot let this happen in our state again.

It is important for your state representative, Michael McAuliffe, to hear from constituents who oppose H.B. 583!

TAKE ACTION
Please make a brief, polite phone call to Representative McAuliffe at (217) 782-8182 today to urge
opposition to H.B. 583 which would repeal Illinois' recent ban on horse slaughter.

When you call, you will likely speak to a staff member who will pass your message along to your representative. Remember to be polite and professional, and leave your name and address so it is clear that you are a constituent. You can say:

"Hello, my name is [your name] and I live in [your town]. As a constituent, I'm calling to urge Representative McAuliffe to oppose H.B. 583, which would repeal our ban on horse slaughter for human consumption. Thank you."

After making your call, please send a follow-up email to your representative to oppose this bill. Finally, please tell your friends and family in Illinois to take action, too.

Thank you for all you do for animals.

Sincerely,

Mike Markarian
Executive Vice President
The Humane Society of the United States

--------------------------....--------------------
I have been in contact with K9 Solid Waste Investigation. They will be at the doggie wash sponsored by Happy Dog Bakery on April 19th from 12-4. Proceeds go to AAVENGE ( Animal Abuse and Violence Ends Now Through Greater Enforcement) and RIHS student council. A doggie wash is $10 and nail trim is $5. We will have food, raffle, and door prizes. K9 Solid Waste Investigation is donating a month of free service to AAVENGE for our raffle! We are splitting proceeds from the doggie wash with student coucil, but hot dog sales and raffle item profits stay with AAVENGE. Please go to their website, www.K9solidwaste.com and go to the link of "events". They will make a donation to a charity, so please vote for AAVENGE. Profits we make above our operating costs ( we are a volunteer organization) such as for our PO Box, website etc go to help the victims of dog fighting. Hope you all can make the doggie wash, and please tell your friends.
Thanks!
