It's time for the quarterly Further update, where we give you increasingly less news about upcoming events. In order of importance, here's what we're up to.
1. We're playing Sounds Of Spring festival in Brisbane this Saturday. We're on the Time Off stage at 3pm. True to form, we won't be playing classic hits (well maybe one or two) and will be regailing you with mostly new, 10 x more brutal downtuned madness. I have a strong feeling the organisers have underestimated our sonic capabilities, so your help in creating a protective shield between us and the DB meter would be appreciated.
2. Opening the new room at the Sando on Nov 6 with Midget and Grand Fatal. Predictable lineup I know, but predictably good...
3. We have 12 cracking new songs that we're about to start demoing. Not sure what's happening with the release.
Drop us a line if you have any good gigs, and if you care, help us keep the dream alive by introducing our music to any next generation like-minded musos who might take pity on us and let us ride on their youthful coat-tails (thanks Regular John and Talons!).

Current mood: betrayed
1. Have you guys broken up? Answer: Nope. We're still writing music and rehearsing. We're not playing many gigs because there's not a lot on offer.
2. Are you still on Chatterbox Records? Answer: Yep. As far as we know we've got a home there unless someone tells us otherwise. At which point you'll know because we'll start hassling every record company in town to take us on...
3. When can we expect a new record? Answer: Next year would be a safe guess. We've got about 15 rough songs that we're about to start refining very soon.
4. You're getting older. Do your joints hurt when you play? Answer: Yes, they do, but we turn up our amps to compensate.
That is all. Thanks for your continued interest in our muzak...

We've had some questions regarding the new record and rather than reply to them individually, I'm gonna address them in the style of an FAQ...
What are the songs like? Heavier like on PRV? Some are. Some aren't. I can tell you they're a lot more concise. Most are around the two-minute mark, but they seem longer because there's so much packed into them. Some of the stuff's heavier and faster than anything we did on PRV, but there's also some stuff that's as melodic as on Further. I reckon it's the best thing we've ever done...
Is Leo painting the cover? Maybe not! He's been pretty busy of late with his art, but we might be looking at giving another Sydney artist a look in with the cover art. More details to come!
What's it called? Dunno yet!
What's the track listing? There's no track listing confirmed but a list of working titles for the songs may peek your interest... Perfect Teeth, Perfect Hair, Perfect Smile Art Fucked By Corporations Men Adore You Modern Boy Bitter And Rough Communication Gallipoli Monsters Super-Relax-o Please Leave Quietly
How was it recorded? Really simply. Straight onto a 2 inch 24 Studer tape machine. There were no super expensive mics used, and very little preamps. Compression was achieved by slamming the signal to hard to tape, so apart from the odd bit of outboard compression here and there, the sounds on the record are as pure as the driven snow. This time around, our aim was to avoid compression, EQ, delay, reverb and other "colourations" like the plague. It was mixed straight from the tape machine through a very modest console onto the CD you'll be listening to. There are also no overdubs, edits, pitch-shifting or sound replacing. It might sound rough to some, but to our ear, it sounds exactly like a record should. Well done Neil!
When is it released? Soon. It hasn't been mastered yet, so it probably won't be out until June...
Thanks for your interest... Matt

Alright, Further fans will have reason to rejoice in the near future as they can look forward to an all new shiny record (and you didn't even have to wait three years for it!). Recorded at Melbourne's Head Gap studios in analogue glory with Neil Thomason over five intensive days, it's the band's most concise and defining record to date. Ten songs coming in at just under 30 minutes, it's a bombination of melody and noise that is blowing the balls out of everyone that's heard it so far. Stay tuned for more news on the release date and title over the next couple of weeks! In the meantime, we'll be putting up some sneaky tracks on myspace PLUS Sydneysiders can hear the album in its entirety LIVE when we play the Annandale on the 27th of April with My Disco.

Current mood: busy
Further are hitting top form with a new batch of songs that we are writing and demoing at the moment. There sound is a bit darker, thanks to new guitar tunings and a refined ethos. With more space and power in the rythms. We have 6 songs near completion so far and more ideas flowing thick and fast.
We played a bunch of shows over the last couple of months as the "Further!"album tour and promo machine winds down to make space for a possible OS tour later in the year.
the Further and Tucker B's tour over April was fanspastic. The shows were huge and so were the hangovers. we took-in Sydney Newcastle Brisbane Wollongong Melbourne Adelaide and Perth. I have to say for my first time to Perth, i was totally impressed with the place, we will be back there for sure in the future. I could write a couple of pages on the tour shenaigans and rocking shows. but if you werent there thats just your own fault. better luck next time.
The "come togther festival" in June was wet and wild, thanks to luna park and the punters for making it a fun day. there are some photos online, if you check out our comments list and follow a web link posted next to a big photo of Leo.
Look out for us during the next 2 months, we will be doing shows round Sydney, Wollongong and Melbourne. Check our gig guide for dates and venues, hope to see you all there.

Well Further are gearing up for a big and busy year. We will be releasing another single of the Further! album. the song "Fools In Love". and to back that up we will tour with the Tucker B's to every capital in Oz. We are really looking foward to this one. I expect a raucous time, as the Tucker B's are a notouriously destructive and wild touring partner. bring your Hardhats.
Annandale "Responsible Rock"
We were invited to play at the annandale recently to help promote awareness of the street nise around the annandale after gigs. I personallt think that the residence dont have much to complain about, seeing that most of the street noise is from the very busy parramatta road and Mcdonalds across the road. Hopefully residences will realize that they are living next to a fucken busy little area that breeds noise, not just from the annandale but from just about every direction.
good luck annandale hotel in your battles with council and residences. the annandale would have to be one of our most favourite venues to play at in sydney, so we need to support it.
stay tuned for heaps more further action over March n April.
also, i might be posting up my infamous UK tour diary from 2003 very soon. It is a very interesting read. It was written from my perspective (which at the time was a single dude on tour in the UK) which might offend my self and those close to me.

Rock against work, Hopetoun
Hopetoun hotel, Surry hills, Sydney, 10/1/06
I remember going to few rock against work shows at the hopetoun years n years ago. It was always a treat to crack a beer or two after work and see some good Sydney rock, even before the sun had gone down. So when we were asked to do one, we had no hesitation.
But getting to gig in time for us was the real issue. You would think the boss would understand, "but Boss im Dang T, i play drums in this rock band and we have a gig in protest of all this work crap i do. So ive got to leave early today... Is that OK?" You could imagine the response if i even asked, so i didnt, i just quietly slipped out without anyone seeing me, picked up my drums and headed to the Hoey.
I got there to see Laura's set and was really impressed with her drummer. They sounded good and played well. highlight was Laura's current single "magic washing machine".
So a few beers in and the sun still shining outside we set up for our "further" set and played our songs in the true spirit of rocking against work. In the back our minds we were truely angsting against the man, you know, you cant hold me down to some dupey job, i wanna rock! yeah!
We tried out a few new adaptations of the album tracks and rocked it the way we know how. Thanks for Super Dave for coming to mix. And Paul for being a champion publican.
