Jay Alan Zimmerman whose show: Jay Alan Zimmerman's Incredibly Deaf Musical, I have been working on since March of last year, arrived a few days ago. At the DC Fringe last year, we took the Pick of the Fringe. Check out the website: www.deafmusical.com

Before he arrived I saw Boeing Boeing at the Comedy Theatre. What a great show!!!!! Frances de la Tour of course, was amazing! The whole ensemble was brilliant. In particular, Mark Rylance's comic performance was on the level of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin. He took farce to a whole level of reality that warmed your heart at the end. Why? He made you care. The women were all briliant: accurate and hilarious but Gomez did a scathingly funny German flight attendant. It transcended what the role would have demanded of an average actress. She straddled the line of stereotype with out offending. Kudos to all!!!!! It is a must see.

We took Jay to see Mary Poppins as well. Fun show and full of magic but a little too slick from me. But "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" stole the show for me. Jay, Janie, Dirk and I have been working on some material for New York and having a blast.

I love London!!!!

Unfortunately, creative differences mounted and I walked away from a potentially disastrous situation. I am saddened because the actors were so wonderful. But I am truly enriched for having met and worked with them. One of the core issues: was the taking of things at literal face value, if I was excercising some one being an animal for a scene, it wasn't meant that they were going to be that for the show. It was just exploration. I work in stretching the boundaries, building in values then letting it all go to the core truth. If one doesn't trust my process then you resist and can only see forest. Not realizing that I was stripping it all down to the lone tree. The ones who trusted were getting there. Every person is at a different place thus I have to work towards a different end for each of them during that process.

The Silver Lining on the cloud: I got to see "History Boys" which was fabulous. The older actors in the beginning were typical speeches all on one breath AND on one intention but the boys were incredible. The show was thrilling. Some real electifying moments.

Current mood:  artistic
The rehearsals are going quite well with all the appropriate tension neccessary for creating art. The cast is amazing and wonderfully open and receptive. I am touched by their work thus far. Medeia is very demanding but we will soldier on through all the rough spots.
February 14, 2007 - Wednesday

This is the very first entry in this blog just to get it started. I just arrived in London to direct a play. Gotta take a nap first and then get back here and write more. Especially since tomorrow is my Birthday and I want to have the website and the blog up and going for that.
