Think of 20 albums that had such a profound effect on you they changed
your life. Dug into your soul. Music that brought you to life when you
heard it. Royally affected you, literally socked you in the gut, is
what I mean. Then when you finish, tag 20 others, including me. Make
sure you copy and paste this part so they know the drill.”

I guess some could read this as your 20 favorite albums, but to me,
it's about 20 albums that really significantly affected you in one way
or another, whether emotionally, or whether it inspired you to play, or
changed how you listen to music, or simply whether it's an album you
deeply associate with a time in your life, etc. Of course, it can also
be your 20 favorites...

In no particular order:

1. Queensrÿche: Operation: Mindcrime

2. Queensrÿche: Rage for Order

3. King Diamond: Abigail

4. Tori Amos: Little Earthquakes

5. Sarah McLachlan: Fumbling Towards Ecstasy

6. Nine Inch Nails: The Downward Spiral

7. Ozzy Osbourne: No Rest for the Wicked

8. PJ Harvey: To Bring You My Love

9. Afghan Whigs: Gentlemen

10. Dio: Dream Evil

11. “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” soundtrack

12. “Spirit: A Journey in Drums, Dance, and Song” soundtrack

13. “Les Miserables” broadway soundtrack

14. The Magnetic Fields: 69 Love Songs

15. “The Crow” soundtrack

16. Loreena McKennitt: The Mask and Mirror

17. Marilyn Manson: Portrait of an American Family

18. Iron Maiden: Powerslave

19. Mötley Crüe: Shout at the Devil

20. Human Drama: The World Inside

A lot of these I don’t even listen to anymore, but their impact was
pretty incredible. Current albums that may stand the test of time
include the soundtracks to “Into the Wild” and “Once”. Also Lita Ford:
Lita should be on this list but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it…
LOL…

Honourable mention goes out to Black Sabbath (Ozzy and Tony Martin
years), Pansy Division, King Diamond's "Them", and PJ Harvey’s Stories
from the City, Stories from the Sea.

I might change this when I get home and actually look though my CD’s… LOL…

My Oscar picks… so far…. granted I have not yet seen The Reader,
Revolutionary Road, Frost/Nixon, Rachel Getting Married, Frozen River,
The Changeling, Tropic Thunder, or The Visitor, yet.

I will see The Changeling, Tropic Thunder, and the Visitor by Sunday.

Also, if anyone wants to go to the Oscar party with me, I am still a dateless wonder. www.gaycity.org

BEST ACTOR:

Sean Penn (Milk)

with honorable mention to Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler)

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR:

Josh Brolin (Milk)

Mostly by process of elimination.

BEST ACTRESS:

I abstain from this one. I have only seen Doubt and Changeling, and don’t think they were award winning performances.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS:

Oooooo! This is the toughest category this year!!!

I have to go with Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler) with honorable mention to
Taraji P. Henson (Benjamin Button). Although Viola Davis’s performance
in Doubt, was actually brilliantly done, she was in the movie for a
whole 10 minutes. Amy Adams’ character in Doubt was the best
performance in the movie, but she was mysteriously absent from the
climax of the story.

ANIMATED FILM:

WALL-E

ART DIRECTION:

Now this is the film I would have given a nomination to Doubt. However
it got snubbed in this category so I will have to go with The Curious
Case of Benjamin Button for amazing sets.

CINEMATOGRAPHY:

Again, Doubt was strong in this area, but not nominated, so again with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

COSTUME DESIGN:

Milk

BEST DIRECTING:

Milk

FILM EDITING:

Slumdog Millionaire with honorable mention to Benjamin Button.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE:

Haven’t seen these, but The Class looks good!

BEST MAKEUP:

Hellboy II: The Golden Army is my pick but it will probably go to Benjamin Button.

MUSIC (Score):

Milk

BEST PICTURE:

Milk should be a shoo-on based on the competition. I think The Wrestler deserved to be in this group this year, also.

VISUAL EFFECTS:

The Dark Knight, just beating out Benjamin Button

WRITING (ADAPTED):

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button with honorable mention to Slumdog Millionaire.

WRITING (ORIGINAL):

Milk
