Had such a wonderful evening on Sunday, you won't believe it!

After climbing up to the St. Stephen Basilica tower and embracing the whole city with wide horizons (photos coming soon), I popped in for a second to an Indian restaurant where one of my photographer friends David celebrated his big day and did a birthday song for him.

Then headed to the Buda Castle where I planned to do a Nostalgia Concert. I was almost running in Kertész street where I heard a voice. Not in my head :-) but coming from somewhere in the street, a very powerful male singing voice.

A young Gypsy man was playing his guitar and singing, a few other men and boys clapping, snapping, dancing, women and girls watching. They had apparently a great time, they just thought to come down from the house and enjoy themselves.

Watch this short video

They invited me so nicely to join them for a song that I did... So there I was, in downtown Budapest, singing and dancing with a bunch of Roma guys... Sorry, this video is only for my Facebook friends, wanna join?

Then finally up to the Castle. Ooops, I didn't know that they had a band playing at the Fishermens Bastion restaurant, and that meant no concert for me... For the acoustics are such around the Matthias Church that you can hear onyl one instrument or one singing voice (especially if it is mine, hahaha) all over the place.

So sorry folks who did come buy to have a listen, but I had to find another stage... Next time send me a text message if you are coming, so that I can let you know about any changes.

Anyway, my mind was set to singing in the fabulous surroundings, so I walked over to the actual Buda Castle, the Palace where I found a nice little corner to sit down and just sing. Not quite as a performance as such - sure, people did hear it and I hope I added something to their experience, some of them came to me and asked what was I singing - I was enjoying the gorgeaous view, the fresh air, the wonderful sound and the mood of the whole thing.

Getting bored with just sitting or standing and because the views were going through dramatic changes in colors and lights, I had to live my other passion too and take photographs. Stood up and was just walking around, clicking my little camera, finding some good angles and just singing and humming, Didn't care who heard it and who didn't, who liked it and who didn't (hopefully they did :-) - I was just singing and humming away, at one of the world's most wonderful places...

And if you look at the pictures, you will understand why I am addicted to this stage of mine and am completely in love with Budapest.

Well, what else this evening might bring? Can it get better?

Yes, it could. I rounded off my night with listening to the Cimbalom King, world famous Hungarian Roma musician Kalman Balogh at Gödör. The hottest music there is!!!

What more to say? It was such a perfect evening, just by myself, totally free to do whatever I wanted to and these are the kind of moments when I say I wouldn't trade my life for anybody else's.

Probably it could have been only better if I could have shared these moments with my loved ones, including you, my friends. Perhaps another time? :-)

Dear Friends,

I am very grateful to all of you who still hang around here, despite that I've been neglecting you lately...

I tell you what happened.

At the beginning, I took the MySpace slogan as it was: "a place for friends". Building my network one by one, checking out each and every profile, before sending a request or approving one. Also after I connected to someone, had a look, a listen, a read at the other person so that I could write a comment about them, about you, and not just post some copy-paste "Hi, nice to meet you, this is me" type of thing. This is what I was doing, you were indeed communicating with the real Andrea Gerak.

I felt great with it, LOVED to find interesting, great people all over the globe, enjoyed my evenings with discovering new music or in other ways creative folks.

Got new friends and fans, my little entourage grew gradually and I was happy about being surrounded with such great persons.

Then something changed (well, obviously I changed something): I thought I should give a try to this heavier self-promotion as an artist, go cold on it and go for some more numbers.

I know this has been working very well for some of my artist friends, getting more CD sales, song downloads etc, they even suggested me to use friend adders. (If you are one of them am I talking about, and happen to read these lines, I thank you for your recommendations and I am truly happy that this MySpace thingy works out well for you that way; I know your music and know you as persons, and you definitely deserve as great audience as possible, so you just please keep on going!)

I tried it and it simply doesn't work for me. Going robotic about it, mechanically pushing "Add", "Approve" etc just put me down, killed the thrill of being connected to people, sucked my energy, developped a feel of guilt in me and eventually caused me withdrawing from this whole thing. As you might have noticed that in the last couple of months I wasn't active here at all, didn't comment back when you sent me something and so on. By now it got so bad that I am hardly even responding to new requests or my most eager fans.

So this is what has happened my friends and this is what I can't do any more.

I decided to get back to what has worked for me and with what I felt good.

It might not will boost my CD sales up to the sky and so on, but I do believe that if I myself am in a really good mood, feel great about what am I doing, I can give more to people of what I am supposed to give as an artist, that will reflect in the response in some way. Maybe I should appear more unapproachable (am I not the "enigmatic Hungarian female voice"? ) and there might come a time when busy secretaries will answer my fan mail - but I believe that I couldn't even get near to that point by neglecting personal relationships and not caring about others in my vicinity. What do you think?

Okay, I have to admit that I generally have a problem with getting overwhelmed by incoming emails, messages and such and don't always answer, that's part of the package at the moment, forgive me for that.

And of course I will invite you to my concerts, tell you where to buy my CDs or download songs, watch videos and all that - well heck, wouldn't you expect that from an indie artist? After all, my art is the best way I can give you anything, isn't it?

Most importantly, I want to be in real communication with you. I'm sure you'll understand that I can't talk with everybody about how's weather here and I am not the one to find when you are bored and just want a chat buddy for 20 minutes - no, sorry. If you are bored, why don't you listen to some music, for example? :-))

Hit me up though when you have somehing specific to say to me, I try to be here for you as much as I can.

Now this was a long one, thank you dears again for sticking with me, you are fantastic people, love you all!

Andrea

In Hungary again! This time a bit longer than usual, for about half a year. First days go by with establishment in Budapest and preparing for further performances.

My calendar is getting busier, but I still have free dates. I am available solo as well as with a band at festivals, concert venues, music clubs, exhibition openings, private, corporate and community events, parties, church events, benefits, libraries, museums, house concerts - everywhere where my songs would fit, except for political parties.

Concert dates

Please contact for more information

-------------------------------------------

Oh my, my, I am so excited!!!

The other day, my Hubby told me to make my Christmas wish list. He said I shouldn't think about possibilities but should put down EVERYTHING, big and small that I would like to have.

Well I did, and as I can think also big, I listed some great things, such as a getaway from dark&cold Scandinavia to the Caribbean...

Guess what: a few days later I got a call that some friends came together who want to introduce me to a band on a ship in the Caribbean... Now can you believe this? What is even more interesting that my husband didn't secretly contact anybody about it, it just "happened". I simply thought of it, wrote it down and there it was!

Imagine, more than a week on a wonderful ship, in the awesome weather with sunshine and sea, away from all kind of whatever the everyday life gives and only dealing with boosting up my creativity (who knows, maybe I start to write my own melodies?), meeting musicians and other such people and work out things with them...  Then I come back, fully pepped up, with who knows what new songs or contracts, concerts in my pocket... Oh, isn't that wonderful?

I should be there this coming Sunday and now I am working on getting the missing money together. The target where I am asking for your help is 1 flight ticket which is 1600.-USD

This is very easy, if EACH of my friends downloads only 1 of my songs for 1.-USD

Download any songs from my website

If you don't find a PayPal link to a particular song you would like to have, send an email with the title to sales{at}andreagerak{dot}com

You can also download any of my 3 albums and YOU set the price:

 Authentic Hungarian Village Music
Árva az a madár (Lonely Is The Bird) Madárka, madárka (Little Birdie)

If you simply want to throw something into my Christmas stockings, here it is:

Wow, this will be my best ever Christmas present and I appreciate a lot, if you contribute to it!

Love, Andrea
