OK, so this hopefully will never apply, but here's a blog from someone about surviving SERIOUS economic collapse ala Argentina. Many eye opening topics. I've had several conversations with people where I referenced it so, I link to it here. I would link to some of the more interesting psts, but I'm lazy. Explore it on your own. If you ever wake up one morning and find your self on the set of Mad Max 4 it might come in handy, and even if not it's interesting reading. [blogspot.com] (Surviving in Argentina)

my last blog post I ranted because the stock market was skyrocketing (+3-5%) on news of a bailout for banks. um, well I guess that has been corrected ... it continued a multi day slide down to <10k, the first time it's been that low in say 4 years. at one point today it was 800 points down. wonder how deep the rabbit hole goes?

Current mood: angry
on news that the bailout will be approved by friday. WTF is wrong with you people? okay, so now the banks will have liquidity again because they will have gotten rid of all their bad debts. They'll start making loans again. Wait a second, the problem was them making !@%!@% loans in the first place. So, now they can start making ridiculous ARM loans again so the housing market can get out of control again before it actually gets back _to_ control? and people can once again stop being able to afford those homes because the prices of the houses are way out of their reach and they are in incredibly high levels of debt. blargh. I've heard certain politicians say, "if the banks get bailed, then the home owners deserve to be bailed out too". WTF. the banks aren't being bailed out because they deserve it. you NEVER bail someone out because they deserve it. The fact that they need to be bailed out in the first place is PROOF they don't "deserve" it. All the people who were responsible, the people who paid their mortgages or didn't accept a ridiculous loan agreement now gets to subsidize those that did? !@$!@% This is supposed to be a capitalist country, not privitize gains and socialize losses. you should never bail out anyone unless there's no other option. This means for instance if you believe bernake and paulson's claims that not bailing out the banks will result in a global economic crash which can somehow be avoided by throwing money at it. That's really the only reason you should be doing a bail out, other wise you are encouraging irresponsible and dangerous behavior. There's a counter argument that risk taking is part of the american way of life and we infact want to continue to encourage risk taking because it advances our competitive advantages and economy as a whole. We do subsidize risk and make exemptions in certain industries for the whole point of encouraging risk taking.
sorry for ranting, (this is a free flow rant, so sorry if it didn't make sense). I'm just angry at the majority of the country and a few selective figureheads in particular.
