More about Sante D'Or:

Santé D'Or Foundation is a no-kill animal rescue founded in 2002. Our philosophy is that with patience, proper care, natural diet and supplements (in conjunction with veterinary care), animals are often capable of self-healing, so our founders named the rescue Santé D'Or, French for "Golden Health."  We offer a variety of services, acting as an educational resource in our neighborhood through our rescue and adoption services and community outreach efforts.  Our organization is run by our executive director, and entirely staffed by volunteers. We serve Southern California, primarily the Los Feliz, Hollywood, and Silver Lake neighborhoods.  Please come visit the rescue to meet the animals! Our adoption days are Friday-Sunday, Noon-5pm, and by appointment.  Please also see our website for more information. Santé D'Or Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal rescue organization.

Our fave = HAIR FIX.  This 100% natural, vegan, and affordable dry shampoo is so easy to use.  Hair Fix is available in Brown, White, and Black and is fragranced with a luscious blend of 100% organic essential oils.
Hair Fix, $19.95.

Hair Fix, $19.95.

How to use? Simply shake the bottle, dispense a small amount of the powder close to your scalp and work through your hair with fingers or blend it in beautifully with an applicator brush.  Your hair will be left smelling fresh and clean, excess oil is absorbed, and your hair is full of volume and bounce.  Lot’s of people also like the Bumble & Bumble dry shampoos because they are available in spray bottles, but these are neither a smart eco choice, nor organic, nor certified vegan, and they are much more expensive than Hair Fix.   Best of all, Hair Fix is owned by an eco/ animal activist cutie, so you know your money is going somewhere great.  Learn more about dry shampoo on their FAQ page here.
Curl on!

Product Review: Hair Fix Dry Shampoo
ImageFor those of us whose hair could use some cruelty-free help looking clean whilst staying dirty, the fix is in. Hair Fix, that is. This secret weapon claims to be "not your Grandma's dry shampoo" on its label, though, you know, if you happen to have a really hip Granny she might like the white-colored version. Oh yes, unlike the powder that is generally used for babies' butts, Hair Fix comes in more than one shade—brown, black, red, and white to be exact. All four colors are comprised of completely vegan ingredients, and are also made of mostly organic ingredients. Recyclable packaging? Check. What about effectiveness, we bet you are asking yourselves. Well, the inside scoop is that when VN columnist Rory Freedman stopped by our offices in January for lunch during her whirlwind book tour, she freshened up Hair Fix before a booksigning and said that she had never before found a hair powder that actually worked for her. If it's good enough for Ms. I-Have-To-Go-Sign-My-Bestseller, it's good enough for us! You can only find Hair Fix online, so be sure and check out their website. Oh, and as for the scent issue, Hair Fix's mix of organic mint, rosemary, lavender, and tea tree essential oils will keep both ladies and gents alike from smelling anything like baby butts.

Hey there Hair Fix friends-

Long time, no type! I have been a busy little beaver trying to wrap up my day job for the year and will be working 4 days a week in 2008 so that I can work on offering new vegan, cruelty-free products and also working on Real Men Eat Tofu (see our MySpace page), a collection of essays by vegan and vegetarian men.

Meanwhile, we are pleased to have been able to make small donation to Compassion Over Killing this holiday season. Hair Fix chooses one or two non-profits to donate a $1 a bottle to during our annual holiday sale. Last year, we gave to Farm Sanctuary and to Food for Live, vegetarian hunger relief. We welcome suggestions for worthwhile animal rights and human rights organizations to donate to. Likewwise, we are looking forward to continuing our annual sponsorship of Farm Sanctuary through their Corporate Sponsors for Compassion program during the coming year. This is the first moment I have had to say hello since the July issue of Real Simple magazine came out and then, hot on it's tail, the ABC Eyewitness News story mentioning/showing Hair Fix. It's been crazy here- all kinds of weird monkey wrenches like the manufacturer moving in the throes of all the press, a long backorder that ultimately got fulfilled, etc. But I am not complaining! Business is great though I haven't quit my day job just yet! And if you are reading this oh, wonderful boss of mine, I won't be anytime soon :)

Press and orders aside, I've been comtemplating additions to the Hair Fix product line, improvements to the Hair Fix packaging and formulation, etc. There seems to always be something to do! Today, I was thinking about adding a merchant shopping cart. PayPal is great but I wonder if it limits people from buying. So much to think about and do. I was lucky enough to have a meeting arranged for me with the founder of a very successful eco-footwear/outdoor gear company recently who gave me a lot of great advice as well, much of it I hope to implement soon in our marketing materials. As always, I love hearing from customers because you know, it's easy to think you know what people like and don't like and what is working and what isn't but no one knows like the people buying it and truthfully, I read and reply to pretty much every email I get: the praise, the complaints, the tips and tricks, etc. and am deeply grateful for time taken out of busy days to share them with me.

Well, speaking of busy days, Ms. Gina is over and out!
