Okay, so for those of you who know me, you know what my record buying habits are like. For those of you who don't know me check it! www.blogspot.com/whatdidibuy573 . Well I've been scoping the Deathwish page a lot lately. There are a few Pre-orders that are pretty legit. The one I am most stoked on is Carpathian "Isolation." Now I was told about this band about a year ago or so I was told and I'm gonna be honest, I wasn't stoked on them. But I decided to check out the audio player on the DW page and well I was totally blown away. So blown away I have to write about them. And I haven't had anything really mind blowing to hear as of lately.
Now like I said, "Isolation" is the album you are looking for. They have a few others out such as their self titled release and "Nothing To Lose." Now those are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT albums. They are way "moshier." I am not as stoked on those albums by any means. But you check them out too you might be stoked on those as well. This band has made some major changes to their sound, but in my eyes it was all for the better. Check It! you wont be sorry, I promise you.

So basically I started a blog about the records I get on a daily basis in the mail. There isn't much to know about it. But maybe you'll get stoked and buy some new records or find some new bands. Honestly I'm just addicted to ebay and buy shit i shouldn't. And I don't think you really give a shit about what I buy. I just really have nothing better to do. It's Titled "What Did I Buy?" Because last summer I played a show with Ruiner, Sinking Ships, Hollywood. I can't remember the show at all because it was in a basement venue with low ceilings. So low my head would be in the rafters when I stand at 6'2. Well from what I was told I was going wall to wall and slammed my head into my friend Gabes head. I was knocked out, got up and started acting really strange. I couldn't retain any information that night. My girlfriend at the time and my friend Cal drove me home from stl to the Hospital. The whole time I kept asking " what did i buy, what happend?" I still don't remember that show very well. I can't remember Ruiner. all I remember of Sinking Ships is still images and thinking "god damn this band is good." Anyways, check it! www.whatdidibuy573.blogspot.com

So let me just start this blog out with me saying how stoked I am on what is coming out of New England area right now. New England is producing some of the most intelligent bands of this time. I am super stoked on The Effort and Verse. I've already blogged about The Effort, and hopefully i will get to the Verse Blog at some near future date. But I am so incredibly behind on everything in my life right now that it is hard to catch up. But I am going to fight my urge to go do something other than write this blog. God I am lazy.
Anyways I've been pretty stoked on Have Heart since I got a copy of their LP "The Things We Carry." That album has an incredible Bane feel to them. But now their new release "Songs To Scream At The Sun" is well ... I guess the only thing I can really say is "Amazing." I got a copy of it on my ipod about 2 weeks ago. The first time I listened the first few songs of the album on my quick 10 minute bike ride home from work. I hate that ride sometimes, i think its because I am totally out of shape but the song "Bostons" is one of the most motivational songs I have heard in awhile. Today I busted out their 7inch introducing some songs from the new LP. The 7inch is titled " You Can't Go Home Again."
I know its pretty much expected that a hardcore band would write songs about the hardships of life but I think this album throws down some real heart felt lyrics about more than your basic problems. It's about the hardships of growing up and taking care of your family. Lyrics about doing everything with your life that you can, and by trying to make your familys life better than what you have. From what I understand Partrick was trying to understand why his father is the way he is and what he did for his family. I personally think thats pretty Epic.
I really can't get enough of this band at this point. They keep putting out killer tunes, they are an amazing live show, and I think they leave you wanting more. So who knows what Have Heart will be doing in the future, but right now they are touring with Verse and killing it. I do look forward to the Pre-Order shipping to my house from Bridge Nine of the LP. And I also look forward to hearing what new songs they write in the future. To see pictures from the Show in Lawerence check out my bro's site www.artripoli.com

fare thee well 06/06/08
Alright, so for those of you that actually read these blogs and check the site on a regular basis know that I've been getting some rad shows to come through town. Also so everyone knows Gabe Garcia of Fare Thee Well has gone out of his way to make sure we get shows along with Pants from Eastside for bringing Ruiner and Braindead (if you haven't heard Braindead you should probably go check em out). After Friday and Saturday I've been a little bummed on everyone who comes out to shows. There have been some kids making a huge effort to coming out to shows in town.
I just really want to bring up a few things, hopefully no one takes it as me being a dick.
If you want to see bands coming through town you need to start coming out to the shows. We have an insanely small scene and when someone doesnt show up we all know. It effects the entire show. Basically how this works is a bar books shows to bring in more money at the bar. So the more people that show up the more likely they are to make money selling drinks. They normally take a cut from the door to atleast pay a sound guy and the door guy. so roughly we're gonna say thats a 100 bucks right there. 5 bucks at the door times 20 people, thats a 100 bucks. So the First 20 people pay the door guy and sound guy. Then whatever is made after that goes to the bands.
decades 06/06/08
Now keep in mind touring is expensive, I was paying 5 bucks to get into shows when i was 15, thats 7 years ago, gas has gone up about $2.60. So the min that i will pay is 50 bucks for a band, thats not even enough for a tank of gas. Bands normally make their gas off of their merch so they bank off of selling as much merch as humanly possible.
So heres where the problems come in. If no one comes to the shows we can't get the bar its money, the sound guy and the door guy have to get paid out of the bar, and the band gets nothing. Now the way I do the shows that I book. The band is atleast going to get 50 bucks either way. So thats 50 bucks i am out of my own pocket. If there isn't enough for the door guy and the sound guy i am gonna pay them the difference so they get their usual. Potentionally I am out $150. I don't have that kind of money to throw around. and if i want to spend that much i'd rather have $150 of merch. Luckily everyone in Fare Thee Well and Get Serious are down to throw down some cash to pay the band.
get serious 06/06/09
So here is the big picture, If the venue doesnt make any money they wont book the shows (F.Y.I. we are limited in venues) If There are no venues we can't book shows. If the promoter is out of money they aren't going to try to book more shows, losing venues makes the situation even harder to book shows(there is a definent lose of motivation). If there are poor turnouts and a band isn't given as much money as they are suppose to be they aren't going to make it a point to come back to this town. Then that means our scene crumbles because of everyone who didnt come out. Which means there won't be anymore hardcore shows, there wont be anymore hardcore scene, and then you're back to living in boring old Columbia Mo, midwest clusterfuck.
I also notice that it seems like everyone and their mom shows up to an all local show but when touring bands come to town no one comes out to see them. You go see the bands that you can see every day but you don't see the bands that come through town once in a blue moon. These are signed bands that want to come play for us.
You don't have to come out to shows. I'm not mad that kids didnt come out, i am frustrated with it for sure though. But its totally up to you to make a difference. So to any kid that bitches about how there is nothing to ever do and how there is no scene, realize there are people out there trying to help you out and give you something to do. We are all suppose to be a family and look out for each other. So it's up to you, remember coming up with 5 or 10 bucks to make it to a show is nothing compared to the people who will be out 50 to 150 bucks (if not more). So please come out to the shows. If you know a show is coming up, put aside 15 bucks to go have a rad time at a show and get some sweet merch.
Like I said you don't have to come out, but one day there might not be anything to come out to.
Ceremony in KC
We could have shows like this. We are more or a tight knit scene then the cities surrounding us.

Where do i even begin with this band. So best way to start this out is today i am listening to their new E.P. and i am walking to get some food. its about i'd say 10 blocks from my work. In this 10 block walk i am listening to Forfeit screaming "its your fault and i don't care anymore" wanting to punch everyone in the face and 2 step the whole way to where i am headed. It All i can imagine is people going wall to wall/doing windmills/stage dives/ and destroying everything in our way. This band is amazing. Honestly this band is so rad and Artripoli(www.artripoli.com) and myself both had to write reviews on what we thought about this band.
Alright so Forfeit is from Syracuse New York. They put out their debut 7 ep "Visions" last February and let me tell you, it is Killer! I have to say if you were to combine any two hardcore bands combined Forfeit would be a mix between old Terror and old Blacklisted. Basically they are killing it with fast and heavy "Terror-ish" riffs along with these angry Scott Vogel Vocals. Then they have that really gritty sound that Blacklisted had in "We're Unstoppable" but think "heavier." And then on top of that there are these parts that remind me of George's vocals from "peace on earth, war on stage" but not as intense.
This Band is so good, as soon as I got a copy of "Visions" i probably listened to it at least 3 or 4 times in a row. I am definitely stoked that they will be coming to play in Columbia this August. So do me a favor. Check this band out, buy their EP, and go to the show. On one side note they will be featured on the Hardcore For The Kids Vol. 2

So I keep trying to write these reviews. I don't really know what i am doing to be honest. I just write some jibberish about a band that i am super stoked on in hopes that you guys will read it and check the shit out. I don't get any comments on these things so i don't even know if you're reading them. Anyways, i've been planning on writing this review since i got their new Full Length album.
So where do i start with this band. First of all if you havent heard of The Effort yet they are a Edge band from Merrimack Valley Massachusetts about 45 minutes outside of Boston. This band is amazing. I orginally got their "WEAR YOUR HEART" Promo cd last summer. I instantly fell in love with this band. This band is really intense with their writing. Its not just the same ol' hardcore band. They definently get you amped on life and on your scene. The lyrics are incredibly intellagent. It's easy to relate it to your life. "Wear Your Heart" is easily my favorite song they have written. They gave me the ambition to try to make a difference in my scene and in my life.

I got the full length "Iconoclasm" in the mail the day before it came out. I was having one of the worst days of my life and to pick that out of my mail box made my day so much better. I got to work and put this cd in the computer itunes as soon as i got there. "Transmite" opens the cd with static and feedback, and sound clips from the internet and the news. 37 seconds into the track there is a countdown from 9 to 1 and the music starts with this slow build up to get you super fucking amped. After 2 minutes and 52 seconds of this track finish with this epic build up and sound clips it storms into "The Price Of Medication" It proceeds to push this rather politcal album speaking of such things as the slaughtering on Burmese Monks in 1988 and 2007 during a peaceful protest. This band is well written and Intelligent. I don't normally like any thing really involving Politics but i think they bring up valid points. And keep in mind this isnt just a political band, i just want to avoid talking about it in a stereotypical edge kind of way. Because they are not you're typical edge band by any means. Anyway, check them out. They are a sick band, a great live show, and killer dudes.

Okay, so i don't even know where to begin on this weekend. For those of you who don't know Modern Life Is War has been around since 2002 put out a few 7inch's, 3 killer LP's and have done a shitload of touring until last night on April 26th 2008. I fell in love with this band the second i heard their first 7inch. They are an incredibly intense hardcore band. Not your everyday run of the mill music. I've had people compare them to At The Drive In before. They did some amazing shit over the years. They are from a small factory town with honestly nothing. They have done so much for hardcore and had nothing to work with. Honestly probably one of the raddest things i have ever witnessed.
I decided i had to go when i heard they were breaking up. Got some tickets from a friend of mine and we drove the 5 hour drive to see them. Definently worth the drive. The show sold out and had some rad bands including, Quick Fix, Desperation, Old Scratch Revival Singers (re-union), William Elliot Whitmore, Holding On (REUNION) and one other i can't seem to remember. Anyways, there were atleast 500 kids at this show from all over the place, im talking flew out from Portland Oregon, New York City, and Australia. This is what hardcore is all about:
This show was great, i really want to keep on with the MLIW stuff so, anyway. About 45 seconds into the set the stage that was built that day was broken. I mean this shit fell apart because 500 kids surged into the stage and knocked that fucker down. At this point they took the stage apart and played on a 1 foot riser. They asked for the crowd not to surge the stage but of course it happend and their friends were left working as a baracade and didnt get to enjoy their last show ever. I stood in the back as they played Destination Death Or Better Days (which is one of my all time favorites of theirs) and Enjoyed seeing this band that i spent so much of my youth looking up to one last time.
If you could take the time to check them out you can find some of their stuff on. www.deathwishinc.com I really suggest you do check em out. You'll be sorry you missed out on them, but its never too late. I still kick myself for not seeing American Nightmare, or Comeback Kid (with the orginal singer). But its not the end of the world.
It's heartbreaking to see such a passionate hardcore band break up but its always going to happen. so we'll just have to move on and gain strength through it.

Alright so these things I write are never very good. I mainly just write them to get you guys to check out the band and give them a shot.
Where do I start with this Band? I’ve been listening to Their first full length "One Year Later" non stop. Considering where I am in my life right now I feel like this album is the soundtrack to my life. I’m going through some hard times and from what i gather from this album, so is the singer.
This band is just so in your face. Lyrically they are just so intense and so angry. Basically it just describes how big of a clusterfuck his life is and how hurt and angry he is. Lines like "I hate myself, more than you ever cared" just sink into my head. This band is an explosion of energy staight out of the Boston Area.
Their live show is Amazing. Shut it down played with them twice on our winter tour. Both times the kids just went totally nuts for them. During the last song in both The Cape of Mass and Baltimore the kids just blew up throwing windmills in every direction.
I think anyone can relate to this band. Everytime i listen to them they blow me away with crashing melodies and intense vocals. This band is newly signed to Deathwish and are putting out a 7inch called "No Love Can Save Me" One of the Tracks has been streamed on their myspace. And its fucking amazing, don’t just take my word for it, check it out.

They are also playing in St. Louis Mo on May 20th at the 2 cent plain with local heros of columbia, Fare Thee Well.
Check em out, i promise you wont be disappointed. This is honestly probably one of my favorite bands on the road right now.

So this band is in you face. I was talking about them the other day and i hear straight out of Boston Tony’s mouth "You mean Boston’s Embrace Today?" Thats how intense this band it.
I have seen this band a number of times. The best time i ever saw them though was in stl with The Requiem, Bleeding Through, and Love Is Red. This show was fucking packed. It was a very brutal show full of windmills and spinkicks. Either way when they went on All the lights are off except for 2 or 3 red floodlights and everyone went totally ape shit for them.
Anyways I just downloaded "Soldiers" since i am i am currently out of a record player. This album is mean. It’s just a constant in your face album. The songs are farely short with constant rage flying through each song and a fist to the face breakdowns. Really you can’t help but want to "bedroom mosh" to it.
Seeing this band live is impossible at this time since they decided to take a break in 2007, but its definently a solid album to buy. And this band has been fronting the Straight Edge scene since 2001.
Check ’em out. Tell me what you think of them. And come out to the shows in columbia this month.
Bedroom Mosh-verb- To dance by yourself in your room while listening to mosh friendly music.
