Me and Michael Clakson's new CD is now available from the Claddagh Records website (there are sound sample there, but they sound a bit cyaaat to me).

It has already been received with such glowing accolades as "alright" from BBC Radio Four and Financial Times critic Emer Mayock and "I don't like that photo of you" from my mother. At any rate, it's all another wee slice of life.

I trust you're all well.

Regards,

Harry.

Just finished recording/mixing a new CD of flute duets with fellow belfastard and flute player Michael Clarkson.

Michael is a great musician; unmistakable playing style with lots of energy, lots of life! We had manys the session in Belfast city centre pubs where there might have been a dozen flute players, one Danish fiddler, the Brother Maguire on the drum, an on-the-run South American freedom fighter, an excitable wood carver, a strange German man I never got to know, Sam and Isabel Murray, Breton sympathisers, three unionists, four repubicans, prostitutes, a shinner, a poet, various half-hearted taigs, at least three brands of prod, a part-time RUC reservist, a dog, and a fallen clergyman... plus some undesirable types as well.

I hope we got a bit of all that down on disk.

We had good crack doing it all in Garry O'Briein's studio near Kinvara, Co Clare. Garry laid down some lovely guitar and mandocello accompaniment and my old playing buddy Seamus O'Kane plays his usual blinder on the bodhrán.

It'll be out later on in the year. The title is "The Pleasures of Hope".

All the besht,

Harry B.

Current mood:  naughty
Added a honkyoku, one of the old peices for shakuhachi, to the Myspace player. Its one of the most famous of these pieces and is somewhat of a warm-up peice on the shakuhachi I was told once (by a man who ran away... laughing).

Its a poor recording, because I'm a poor man. After I'd eaten the only remaining bean in the tin as last night's frugal dinner I struck on the idea of using said tin, a quantity of my ear-wax collection and the carcass of an earwig to construct a primitive cylindrical audio recording device.

This I did and, after I had rendered the performance in wax, I fashioned the wax into a small candle. This I burned in the vacinity of the USB port of my gas-powered home computing machine and, amazingly, the gods of air saw fit to transmit my recording to these pages.

Truly I live in wonder (and some terror).

Regards,

Harry.

Added pictures of The Taproom Trio to the Myspace page... please bear in mind that you can't report us on grounds of ugliness!...

We're playing this Friday in Drumkeerin, co. Leitrim as part of the John McKenna fest.

All the Georgie,

morning sunlight
