CONGRATULATIONS

The Native Hawaiian Center staff congratulates our very own Ka'iulani

project for consideration in the 2008 Annual Wo Awards competition in the
Community-Building category.  Malama 'Aina Day took the 1st Runner-Up
prize in this highly competitive system-wide competition which saw
projects submitted by 6 out of the 7 community college campuses in the
UHCC system.  Malama 'Aina Days is a project that was conceptualized and
implemented by Ka'iulani in the Spring 2007 semester.  The strong placing
of Malama 'Aina Days in this prestigious system-wide competition brings
great honor to us all.  For her placement Kai'ulani will receive a $300
Professional Development Grant from the Wo Education Endowment for use in
her own professional development.  Congratuatlions once again to Ka'iulani
Akamine and Malama 'Aina Days, the 1st Runner Up in the 2008 Wo

in a computer classroom environment affords them.

students involved and engaged in class and are invaluable course
assessment tools that help instructors ensure that their SLOs are met.

to deliver course lectures as SRS are built to be fully integrated with MS
PowerPoint. Workshop attendees will utilize TurningPoint to develop
their own interactive SRS enabled PowerPoint lecture and will take it with
them to use in their own classroom.

Aloha, Friends,

We hope you enjoyed the extended MLK, Jr. weekend.  Here's a quick
preview of upcoming events this week at the Native Hawaiian Center.

FINANCIAL AID WORKSHOP

This Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the NHC Computer Lab  (7-421) we'll be
hosting the first of our Personal Statement Writing Workshops.  Here's the
extended description:

Writing Your Personal Statement
Date:  January 23, 2008
Time:  1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Location:  7-421

The personal statement is an important part of your application package.
It is the only opportunity for readers of your application to get a feel
for you as a person as well as a student.  This essay is also the place
where you can put your academic record into the context of your
opportunities and obstacles.  Join us as we give you the tips and tricks
as well as point out the pitfalls that will help you write a winning
personal statement and earn the scholarship you need to finance your
education.
