Check out this review in the Spanish rock web La Estadea - Intro: http://nuke.laestadea.com- Review: http://nuke.laestadea.com/laestadeacom/tabid/69/EntryID/1435 /Default.aspxand see below the translation in English CRONICLE OF THE CONCERT OF HOT LEG (by Wildgirlsins for La Estadea) I BELIEVE IN A THING CALLED ROCK HOT LEG 25 TH April Camden Crawl Festival, The Underworld (Camden Town, London) Camden
Town, the cradle of rock of the British capital, was the headquarters
of Camden Crawl festival, that for two days offered shows in more than
in 30 venues, with local and classic acts, and included other
activities. There marched artists such as The Fall, Yeah Yeah Yeahs,
Kasabian, Echo & The Bunnymen, or Billy Bragg, but what we
witnessed more than eager was the performance of Hot Leg before their
date in Kobetasonik. The guys of the hot leg bragged of more than 80’s
stylesque looks in a packed venue with people wanting to have fun. If
as the frontman of The Darkness showed what he could do, as the head of
Hot Leg, Justin Hawkins goes even further. Dressed with a catsuit in
black leather all tacked, he impressed with his style, his
professionalism, the perfection of his vocals of castrati, and his
skills on guitars, which it’s more than remarkable when the audience
hindered the development of the show. From the beginning, some fans
wouldn’t stop using the stage as diving board to jump over the crowd,
and he surprised us inviting them to join the performance; he only made
the stay dependant on one term: whoever wanted to stay in his stage had
to take the tee out, even girls. The biggest exhibition came when one
fellow walked around nude and, maybe used to the excesses of Wimbledon,
nobody even winked. It was an intense and feverish hour in which
they introduced the songs of their debut album in extended versions.
There weren’t missed I’ve Met Jesus, Gay In The 80’s, You Can’t Hurt Me
Anymore, not even the final shot of Cocktails, absolutely spectacular.
In a scene were some local rockers think themselves Jon Bon Jovi
because they are famous in the corner of their street, Hot Leg offers
the alternative of a irreverent and parodic rock Farinelli meets Van
Halen, Scissor Sisters meets Pointer Sisters, and cock rock meets
Christian rock. If Justin Hawkins is one of the scarce remaining
superstars, who come by his side is an exceptional Court: the hammer
guitarist Pete Rinaldi; the gunman drummer Darby Todd; and the archer
bassist Samuel SJ Stokes. It’s thrilling to imagine how they
would be like in front of a crowd of thousands. We’ll check it on June.
No doubt they could own the slogan “because I’m worth it”. Eager to see you back in Kobetasonik!!! CHEERZ, WILDGIRLSINS OF LA ESTADEA

Elusive kindly gave us the heads-up about this smashing review in londonist
http://londonist.com/2009/04/camden_crawl_review_saturday_highli.php
Hot Leg (Listen: See them 1/6 @ Indig02) Justin Hawkins of The
Darkness leads what is hands-down the best half hour of the weekend.
They sound studio-quality, with every soaring falsetto note and searing
guitar solo finding its mark. They also sound exactly like the
Darkness, which is exactly what the audience wants. Only these choice
snippets from Hawkins' unfazed banter can begin to do the show justice:
"There is a man in a one-piece trying to top the crowd." (Remarking on
a sozzled serial crowdsurfer in a red jumpsuit who, at a distance,
could be mistaken for a member of Datarock.) "No, you idiot, how are
they going to see you if you're in there with them?" (Chastizing a
disobedient member of the crowd who was meant to stand on stage
shirtless.) "I think you know the rules about getting off the stage
during Hot Leg." (In asking a woman to either leave the stage or remove
her shirt, as per their rules.) "WE ARE HOT LEGGGGGG!" (In a song.)
Why, oh why wasn't everyone here? (AS)
Great music, great.

We've just been alerted to another fab review at http://www.herculesmoments.co.uk/2009/04/hot-leg-red-light-fever.html.
Here's an exerpt...
"There will be many who will cast off this album as The Darkness’ third
album that never was. But this is a whole other beast: rockier,
unforgettable, better. Rarely an album comes along that is so
brilliant, that there are no ‘off’ tracks. This might just be one of
those albums, as every song is bursting with the wit and humour we have
come to expect from Justin “Dave” Hawkins. The pomp and circus is back,
only this time without the catsuits…"
It's a great review, but perhaps we should mention that the catsuits are now back. Doh!
Great music, great.

The Leg are set to appear at Childline Rocks!
CHILDLINE ROCKS returns to the IndigO2 on June 1st 2009, the follow up to last year’s hugely successful inaugural event.
This year’s line-up is already falling into place with some big flight names still to be announced. Among the artists so far confirmed are: Jon Lord, Glenn Hughes, Hot Leg, The Pretty Things, Uriah Heep, Steve Balsamo, Sons Of Albion, Andy Newmark and Molly Marriott.
The show promises to build on the success of 2008 where the cream of British rock, including Roger Daltrey, Lulu, Thunder, Marillion and members of Deep Purple, turned out to support ChildLine, the 24 hour confidential helpline provided by the NSPCC for children who are in danger or distress or worried about a problem.
ChildLine Rocks 2009 will make a significant contribution to the Child’s Voice Appeal to raise £50 million to ensure that every child’s call for help gets answered. Currently, only two-thirds of all calls made to ChildLine are able to get through to a counsellor.
Tickets for the show are priced £200 (VIP), £40 (seated) and £25 (standing) and are available now from: HYPERLINK "http://www.wegottickets.com" www.wegottickets.com.
Every penny makes a difference – for example, the £25 cost of the cheapest ticket could pay for six calls from children, at least one of whom is likely to be phoning about physical or sexual abuse.
As in 2008, legendary DJ Bob Harris will compere ChildLine Rocks. Last year the event raised more than £100,000 for ChildLine. Commenting on the unforgettable night Harris said, “It was a magical evening for the bands and fans alike. We couldn’t have asked for better support from the industry and the intimacy of the venue meant the audience were treated to some of the biggest names in rock playing to them at almost touching distance.”
ChildLine president and founder Esther Rantzen said, "ChildLine Rocks was a fantastic success when we launched it and raised a phenomenal amount of money for ChildLine.
Great music great.

Metalville editor Glen knows his onions. A welcome addition to the online scrapbook methinks! Wonderful stuff... Hot Leg - O2 Academy, Sunday 8th March, 2009 Set List –
Ashamed/I’ve Met Jesus/Trojan Guitar/Gay In The 80’s/Heroes/You Can’t Hurt Me Anymore/Chickens/Kissing In The Wind/Come Into My Arms/Dust In The Wind/All I Gotta Do/Prima Donna/Whichever Way You Wanna Give It/Cocktails. Encore –
Theme From Hot Leg/Cupboard Love/Do It In The Dark.
After only hearing 'Red Light Fever' the previous day, the new material from Justin 'Dave' Hawkin's post-The Darkness band 'Hot Leg' was well and truly fresh in my memory. 1st time I've witnessed this dude live in a few years, as I previously saw him in '03 up another Sheffield venue with his former band.
Hot Leg are well and truly built around Justin's musical style and vocal approach - pure flambouyant 80's stadium rock with large vocals and supreme musicianship all round. The other members nearly giving Mr. Hawkin's a run for his money in the fashion dept - although no-one can beat those awesome tiger-skin coloured tight jeans - or the nice array of tattoos come to think of it.
It's a packed house in the small room of the Academy upstairs and I can personally see the 'Leg filling the big room in time if this turn-out is anything to go by. The entire album was played tonight, much to the love from all of the fans. It seems they've took the new songs to their hearts already some were wailing along with the Rock God. Main highlights included the amazingly riffed 'I've Met Jesus'; the out of this world Sparksy rocking 'Chickens' with those powerful trademark falsetto vocals in full pelt & the Status Quo like 'Prima Donna'.
Rockers as well as ballads (like 'Kissing in the Wind') were delivered with plenty of applause from all and sundry. Asking if anyone was in love, Justin joked 'that it don't last' - lol! If it was your birthday tonight you were guaranteed to be serenaded to by the band - as Alexis was and some other chick who they didn't know the name of - wonder if they were trying it on? - haha.
The sound really was excellent - probably due to the low room and state of the art gear that was being used for tonight’s gig. The crowd were teased with the intro for 'I believe in a thing called love' with was greeted with a heer but they soon lulled out when that was all they got - haha - sick but funny joke.
We did get to hear songs that may be on the new 'Hotleg' album though which were as awesome as those numbers too with good examples being 'Come Into My Arms' & 'Heroes'. It was funny when Justin said he'd just f*rt*d because he'd been at his parents for Sunday dinner - well even Rock Stars need to pass wind - lol!
'So what do you want, more ballads or more rockers'. All wanted rockers but Justin said on the account that everyone danced - as if they wouldn't. He wasn't impressed that they had some sort of gig on in the big room as said "to turn the f*ck*r down" and I can't blame him to be honest as it weren’t half booming through.
On one occasion towards the end of the gig he did the old Angus & Bon routine by coming out into the audience playing guitar on the guitar techs shoulders - which everyone loved in the room - with one girl placing her hand up the back of his t-shirt - damn groupies! lol. It's all in the name of Rock 'n' Roll Baby !!
This was purely a brilliant show from a new brilliant band - can't wait to see 'em again - get them to the Download Festival!! 10/10 By Glenn Milligan
Great review, great.
