Это второй приезд Vermillion Lies в Россию, в первый, они успешно отыграли в Москве и Казани. Полтора года спустя Bad Taste (www.badtaste.ru) делает для кабаре-сестер месячный тур в Европе. Площадки выбраны ответственные, для примера, центральный концерт в Германии пройдет в Берлине 2 мая в клубе 101 театрального зала AdmiralPalast (www.admiralspalast.de). В Финляндии, главное выступление состоится в Хельсинки 15 мая на площадке Korjaamo (www.korjaamo.fi). Российский тур начнется в Петербурге со встречи на студии с новыми друзьями BadTaste из Минска - «Серебряная Свадьба», где будет подготовлена и, возможно, записана совместная программа, которую две кабарешные, но очень разные группы презентуют в Петербурге и Москве. Кстати, дуэт с Серебряной Свадьбой не единственный в туре. Vermillion lies - это кабаре-дуэт двух отчаянных сорви-голов с дикого запада сестер Ким и Зоэ Боэкбиндер. Ким жила тихо-мирно, а Зоэ носилась по миру, но через 10 лет разлуки музыка их связала – и какая музыка! Бурлеск звуков, многоцветие стилей, странные и очень странные музыкальные инструменты (печатная машинка, пластиковый лобстер, решетка для гриля) и, конечно, сами сестры – печальная Ким и веселящая Зоэ.
Они умеют играть все – фолк, рок, кантри, блюз, джаз.  Но что бы они не играли, получается Кабаре с большой буквы «К», в котором есть класс, красота, кич и кайф!

Группа Vermillion lies появилась в 2004 году. Зоэ и Ким поселились в Монтере, Калифорния, нашли на чердаке старого дома раздолбанную печатную машинку, ржавую стиральную доску, купили гитару, отняли у соседских детей игрушечное пианино – и буквально за пару месяцев записали первый в жизни альбом. Там были песни грустные и веселые, в стиле джаз и свинг, похожие на Уэйтса, Кустурицу, Лу Рида – а иногда ни на что не похожие, истинные шедевры! 16 треков – от ретро джаза до лирического фолка и цирковых баллад – в обрамлении акустической гитары, перкуссии, дребезжащего игрушечного рояля и чувственного женского вокала. «Восхитительный дебют», «фрикаделика в духе Тома Уэйтса», «подлинное наслаждение природой звука» - так писала ошарашенная пресса о первом альбоме. Но главный сюрприз был впереди.

Свое первое шоу Ким и Зоэ показали на дне рождении друзей. На второй концерт собралось пара сотен зрителей. На следующее представление Vermillion lies клуб с трудом вместил всех желающих. Все хотели увидеть Vermillion lies show – две смешных девчонки, две настоящих актрисы, две клоунессы в окружении пишалок, шумелок, кастрюль и сковородок, детских игрушек и совсем настоящих гитар и ударных. Каждую песню Ким и Зоэ превращают в аттракцион, каждый номер сопровождали забавным конферансом. Зрители то замирают под звуки печальной любовной баллады, то подыгрывают сестрам на детских барабанчиках и дудочках, а порой устраивают настоящие цирковые номера! Словно любящие родители на День Рождение единственного чада, Ким и Зое заваливают слушателей цветными коробочками, фокусами и шарадами. В каждой коробочке – новый объект, на котором, как ни странно, можно играть. Каждый фокус -  россыпь драгоценных звуков и нот. Каждая шарада – история о любви, цирке, домашних животных и авангардной кулинарии.

Этот  музыкально-театральный балаган образовался в 2005 году.  Разбитная компания из  банджо, контрабаса, трубы, скрипки, концертины, стиральной доски и барабанов под предводительством тубы прямо на глазах у публики готовит  необыкновенный коктейль из французского шансона, диксиленда, кантри, русской народной музыки и латиноамериканских ритмов в манере уличного оркестра. Во всех концертных приключениях музыкантов сопровождают бесчисленные чемоданы, набитые цирковой и кухонной утварью, бутылочки различных форм и содержания, дамское белье, беспощадный Пес Баскервиль с горящими глазами, Женщина-Пиявка, обирающая мужчин до последней нитки, обитательница парижских катакомб, белокурая  Крыса Эммануэль Кант и любитель декольте Мсье Грач. В репертуаре - песни на русском и французском языке, ироничные, парадоксальные, жизнеутверждающие, с элементами буффонады, театра кукол и кабаре.

На сегодняшний день концертная география группы охватывает не только города Беларуси. "Серебряная Свадьба" уже неоднократно посетила с концертами Москву, Владимир, Ставрополь, Ростов-на-Дону, Таганрог, Краснодар, Санкт-Петербург, Киев, Варшаву и Париж, а также приняла участие в различных музыкальных и театральных фестивалях,  таких как "Фестиваль современного театрального искусства в Варшаве" (2006), "Пустые Холмы" (2007) в Подмосковье, Метафест (2007) под Самарой, Cap a L Est (2007) в Нанте (Франция). Группа также пишет музыку для  кино и театральных постановок.

In modern controversy and mondial (cosmopolitan) art, the ways of expression all too often surprise and shock and the styles form an unexpected symbiosis, sometimes real underground masterpieces can grow out of the most vulgar examples of the pop-culture.

Mr Pulp
(Markus Pulkkinen) is widely known in the Finnish, Russian and Germany club crowd by his participation in the Finnish duet La Sega del Canto. In Finland, besides his work with the band and many other projects with his friends, Markus writes music for
theaters, short films and animated cartoons. Now he is working with the children's
musical. In 2007 as part of the Golden Mask Theater Festival in Moscow, together with the musician Kristian Voutilainen, Markus Pulkkinen presented his comedy duet Crap with feeling to the public, which in 2008 grew to the one-man performance with the elements of stand-up comedy,called PMS - Pulp Music Show. It was introduced in January 2008 on a Norwegian festival Border Crossing Exercises.
The project is so unique because there is only Mr Pulp on-stage, while the other show members tour with him on a DVD and are seen on the video screen. During the concert, the screen becomes not only a piece of conducting material, breathing life in
ideas and visualizing jokes, but is perceived by the audience like a part of the performance and a full-time member of the project!

Based of the mixture of genres and the participation of the audience, the show is truly international. Mr Pulp sings, talks, and communicate by writings to the public in many languages,for instance in German, in Russian and in English. The show is also democratic: on stage only he drinks alcohol, makes people join in his Hard-karaoke and makes reports from the public toilet. You never know what musical instrument will appear in Mr Pulp's hands in the next moment! It can be an acoustic guitar, a flute, a saw – whatever. Scorpions, Phil Collins, Celine Dion – you can only guess what “pop-masterpieces”he decides to play this time, with the crap feeling.

Mr Pulp (Marcus Pulkkinen) is widely known in the russian club crowd by his participation in the finnish duet «La Sega Del Canto». In Finnland, besides his work with the band and many other projects with his friends, Marcus writes music for theaters, short films and animated cartoons. Now he is creating music for a ballet!
Also he is uniting everything he loves in a new provocative project! Last year as part of the Golden Mask theatre festival, together with Christian Vootilinen, the musician presented his comedy duet «Crap with feeling» to the russian public, which in 2008 grew to an hourly mono-performance with the elements of stand-up comedy, called “PMS: Pulp Music Show”. The program was introduced in January 2008 on a Norweigan festival Border Crossing Exercises. To the end of the debut year Mr.Pulp will arrive to Moscow!

 Puzzle-story

In spring of 2007 as part of the theatrical festival "Golden Mask" Jim Avignon and Bad Taste created a new puzzle-story! Masks – elements of the puzzle, (works of TanjaO) were handed out to all present during Neoangin’s performance. The guests had to search the crowd of dancing people to find the rest elements of the puzzle that they got and put together the picture. In autumn of the same year a master-class "KinoPuzzle – model for assembling" was given in Winzavod as part of XS film festival «Creativity:Moscow:Movie». All the people from the audience could make their own puzzle-elements and change fragments of Jim’s finished pictures and afterwards during the concert from ready puzzle-elements could piece-together a gigantic man (work of Sasha Naumov) who danced to Jim’s music. And now the story continues with Jim’s new puzzle-album «Hallo Jim Avignon!» and the April Puzzle-Party Neoangin in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

 

In spring of 2008 Jim will arrive in Russia with his new album, new book and old friends: band Nova Huta and Chris Imler, the crazy drummer.

Directions for use

Model for assembling ?1 - horizontal:

Puzzle-mask.
Make 3 or more cardboard masks so that together they would make a whole picture, like a puzzle.

 

Details:
On a rectangle piece of cardboard draw a picture and cut it up to puzzle-pieces.

 

Make holes in each of the puzzle-pieces and put elastic bands through them to make masks. When several people put them on and stand in a row the puzzle should join up and make the original picture.
 

Model for assembling ?2 – vertical:

A dancing man-puzzle.

Make a cardboard character who is formed by puzzle-pieces.

 

Details:
On cardboard draw one of Neoangin’s song heroes or your own invented character. Cut the picture up so that it could be made up in a puzzle. Now you have a dancing man-puzzle! The top of the figure can be secured to a stick so that it is more comfortable to hold it during the dance. For the same reason fasteners for hands should be on every piece.

A 3D man-puzzle.

Make a tridimensional man!

Details:

Similar to the dancing man-puzzle the 3D puzzle is made up from pieces, but unlike it, should come out tridimensional.

Interactive Exhibition January 08-20

In four days young creative union "Moscrow" and RDW (www.rdworld.net) artist will build cardboard houses on 500 sq.m. of Project Fabrika, and BadTaste's friends, more than 50 artists, will paint the walls of Cardboard Town. Being created by the young artists, designers and graffitists, Cardboard Town is real modern art, available to people of all ages, professions and tastes. This project unites musical festival, interactive exhibition-sale, role-plays for children and adults.

From January 08 to January 20, 2008, Cardboard, Cartonia is open for visiting: week days from 15:00 until 23:00, week ends from 12:00-23:00. Guests of Cardboard Town may participate in town's life: street processions, head of state elections, carnivals, concerts, exhibitions, master-classes, cardboard fashion shows, children performances - like in any other town. Every day cardboard shops will carry on trade, every day there will be a performance on the main square and children programmes on week ends.

Interactive exhibition of souvenirs and modern art pieces
Many artists, who participate in Cardboard Town building, will open their galleries and exhibitions and also studios where guests may take part in picture creation, buy canvases, souvenirs and hand-made postcards.

Role-play "Become Cartonia Personage"
All the tourists may become Cartonia personages or citizens for two weeks. More than 500 people have already got "Personage Permit". You are welcome!

Musical Festival on Cardboard Town Square
Supported by MusicLook Magazine, the music festival has well made-up programme. Among the participants: Karamazov Twins, Dustvail, Ok Girl, Lampa Ladino, Nick Zavriev, EXIT project, Alissid Jazz, Jermook, Kaftan Smekha.Cardboard Musical Festival is the most interesting, daring, experimental music with no stylistic limits.

 Everyday Children Entertaining Programme
Children's Time in Cartonia is from 15:00 until 18:00 (08-19 January). Children's Days (extended children's programme) - 12, 13, 19 January from 12:00. Careful animators will teach children to draw, make cardboard and paper handicrafts, and build cardboard house or automobile. There will be a lot of sweets for sale and a cardboard bar. During Children Days Cartonia offers aqua-make-up, origami, performances and plays for children.

Kartonija project. A unique project in Russia.

Create a character. Create a party.

Everybody has memories from the childhood – playing Indians and cowboys with friends, dressing Barbies with girls from the neighborhood, constructing railway or a small house of your own (a tent in the middle of the living room or in the garden). Now those days are gone and we are bind to our office desks, survival aims, family duties. Sometimes it seems that there is no time and no mood for making our private dreams and hopes come true – and there seem to be no trace of those careless dreamers we used to be. But even now you have a chance to make your dreams and wishes real in some special place named Kartonija! And even more – you will find extra ways of self-expression! Kartonija is a new creative approach to entertain yourself!

 

Kartonija is a multi-cultural project on the crossing of different genres: art exhibition, performance, theatre, concert. This project has various levels, applications and can be called absolutely universal. Kartonija may be a background to your party or a independent event for example in the framework of a modern art exhibition, theatre festival, open-air in a city park. Kartonia perfectly blend with big and small events and can be an event itself.

 

First Kartonija materialization took place at Afisha Picnic 2007 (picnic.afisha.ru) at Kolomenskoe park July 28 (which was Saturday). The picnic was attended by 50 000 people, and the PaperTown of Kartonija was one of the central picnic spots. In the open air surrounded by trees we erected Kartonija's first town – PaperTown – with its main square in the middle.  Among 3d decorations of city buildings (municipality, bank, jail, post, etc) all visitors could exchange rubles to local money – badtastes, and participate in different activities for symbolic fee. On applying to municipality, every person could become Kartonija character, vote for Kartonia tyrant or get married by Kartonija rules. Grown-ups as if they were kids made paper trees, cut figures out of cardboard, invented new stories for Kartonija History, made tours through PaperTown lead by the fabulous Kartonija Herald. And for children Kartonija was simply a paradise. Every little person could enter cardboard houses, climb them, crawl inside and outside, look out of paper windows. Second Kartonija materialization will differ by format. It is planned as a fortnight event  which will take place January 8-21, 2008 at one of the exhibition halls at Fabrika project (www.proektfabrika.ru) not far from Baumanskaya metro station. On 500 square meters we will re-erect PaperTown main square and will build real cardboard streets and avenues with pavement, houses-of-blocks, shops, markets, clubs, civil offices. For two weeks in an almost real cardboard town lots of one-time events (master-classes of cardboard art, gigs, parties, presentations) and all-time-working attractions (exhibitions, animation for kids, active and passive games, performances) will be conducted. Various interactive projects will be presented every day to visitors -  Kartonija tourists – and everybody will have an opportunity to see it, to feel it and to participate in it. And after having observed it all, every tourist may take active part in Karonija life and become Kartonija character.

 

For our character Kartonija is not only some sort of interactive art project – it is an everyday role-play game. Kartonia characters – most active participants of the project. It's a group of initiative and creative  people (in real life they are artists, managers, musicians, promoters, pr-directors, idlers – there is even a psychologist and a banker among them) united by the idea of smart entertainment. Presently not less than 100 people call themselves Kartonija citizens. All these people, looking aside from their everyday routine, adapt or invent some roles, take part in working out new rules of Kartonija and live in PaperTown according to those rules. Kartonija is an open and widening community of infatuated and creative people that communicate and make things in chorus and solo. It's a space where every person can become an artist, a photographer, and art tutor or a local Kartonija newspaper correspondent , everybody can choose an existing part or invent something dazzling new. Total freedom of self expression! Kartonija is the place to realize yourself in real art or creative business!

Here is short inerview our friend Sergej Chernov from Saint-Petersburg Times newspaper take from Jason Webley by email just week befor fist Russian gig in Petersburg xxxx II bar!

1. Please could you tell us what you did last year, since your last
concerts in Russia (almost two years ago)?

Hmmm....  I had a concert in Moscow last New Years, but I think it has
been two years or maybe more since I ahve been to Saint Petersburg.  I
have been touring a lot.  I have been recording some new projects,
musical collaborations with friends.  Two of them are finished and I
am working on two more right now.  (At the moment I am staying in the
windmill of my Czech accordion-player friend Jana Vebrova who I am
doing a small project with also.)  One good thing has been my
relationship with a group from Boston called the Dresden Dolls.  I
went to Australia with them last fall and played for thousands of
people.  It was really a good trip.

2. Are there any interesting new stories?

Too many...  at the beginning of this rip, I found a loaded gun in my
luggage.  Really!  And then the next day my laptop got stolen in the
subway.  The theives are really clever.  Someone was pulling at my
jacket and while I was pulling it back, someone else opened my bag on
the otehr side and stoel the laptop.

3. You did a pair of collaboration singles - who are these people, what
did they add to you work?

THey area all different musical friends.  THe first, Jay Thompson, is
a poet friend from Seattle.  THe second, Andru Bemis, is a folk singer
from Michigan.  The next one I just finished recording with the
Reverend Peyton, a delta blues player from Indiana.  Now I am working
with a Czech accordionist, Jana Vebrova and next willeb Amanda Palmer
from the Dresden Dolls.  Working with different people helps me to
relax the way I work and to try and explore different things than I
normally would.

4. Why not a full-length album?

Perhaps this summer.  The collaborations actually ARE full length,
though.  They are singels with a whole album's worth of out-takes.

5. You must have a plenty of new songs - please say a few words about some
of them?

I do have some new songs...  I am pretty happy with them, but they are
still sorta strangers to me.  They have just moved into the house and
we are still getting used to each other, finding out if we can really
live together.

6. What new will we see in your upcoming concerts?

I don't know.  I know you won't see a laptop.  Maybe there will be a gun.

Novelty + Stand-Up Comedy   

La Sega Del Canto - a musical and theatrical duet from Finland with Italian name. They are real heroes of Finland. Presidents, children punks and housewives enjoy their music. They play and sing folk songs, disco hits, tango, rock-n-roll, jazz, pop – anything you just can think of! They literary plunge into your mind with their music played on a real saw! The saw is accompanied by accordion and guitar. La Sega Del Canto performed at many international musical festivals together with Elakelaiset, Tiger Lillies, Zdob Si Zdub – and everybody everywhere is simply charmed by their gigs! They call their creative approach to music plagiarism or novelty. Musical critics compare them with Tiny Tim and Weird Al Yankovic.

La Sega Del Canto complete their musical gigs with original theatrical performances which make everybody smile, laugh and sometimes cry with tears of joy. Their stand-up comedy is international and needs no translation. Famous Finish movie director Aki Kaurismaki dreams of including their performance into one of his films.

La Sega Del Canto – it is just two men: Jouni Calo, – a famous Helsinki actor and Markus Hulkki, - digital effects specialist.
