"The Guiding Light," an Emmy Award-winning, 70-year-old soap opera, goes dark in September, and with it a two-year relationship with the bucolic Somerset County borough of Peapack-Gladstone.

One of the show's producers, Kim Armstrong, presented a $10,000 check to the borough council Tuesday night as a parting gift in appreciation for a two-year lease of the Komline House. "We appreciate everything you all have done for us and it's been a wonderful experience," Armstrong said after presenting the check to Mayor William Horton. [READ MORE]

When CBS turned down the Daytime Emmys, hopes dimmed that the show would find a home. Producer Jim Romanovich, of Associated Television International, swooped in like a 1980s soap hero, and saved the day. The show will air on the CW, complete with a red carpet pre-show. Romanovich is a bona fide soap fan. He understands and respects the genre. He is putting together the biggest, most ambitious Daytime Emmys in years.
