El Myspace de Jackola For that less-than-blog stuff

Saturday, March 28, 2009

Really, it's myspace in general I don't use terribly often anymore. Facebook and twitter have taken over for me... not that I don't come here, I just don't really use it to connect to people. I mostly use it to approve friend requests, deny comments and wade through event invitation spam. What would my day be without a little uh that?

Anyway.... big news. We have the one and only Derrick Carter in the house this Friday night. We're all pretty pumped about it. Here's a flyer:

DERRICK CARTER :: MILES MAEDA

I'm playing as well, so I'm pretty excited about that. Which reminds me... I never blogged the recording of me playing at Smart Bar in Chicago... so here you go.

I also haven't blogged about several other events that have already happened, so have a reminisce:

Have a good one, and hope to see you this weekend.

Taylor Norris
Bang Tech Twelve

Known today for his smooth mixing and creative track selection Taylor Norris began his musical journey at a young age. Encouraged by his parents to get involved in music, he learned to play several instruments while growing up in Indianapolis, IN. After building up an interest in DJ'ing he decided to buy some gear and a few hip-hop records to experiment with. He quickly became infatuated with mixing beats and in 1996 attended his first house party where he was exposed to what would quickly become his obsession….house music.

Over the years Taylor has traveled around the mid-west playing several events along side some of the biggest names around including Dave Ralph, Slater Hogan, Bad Boy Bill, Christopher Lawrence, Chris Fortier, Adam Jay, DJ Dan, Paul Anthony, John Larner, Three, Paul Johnson, and Danny the Wild Child. For over a decade Taylor has been refining his skills on the decks and destroying dance floors by orchestrating hypnotic musical journeys. His styles range from clubby electro house and progressive to darker melodic and minimal techno.

Jackola
sideTrack

Jackola's musical style is eclectic to say the least. You may catch him playing dance rock and electro house between bands at a concert, or spinning funky house, tech house or minimal techno in other atmospheres. 2008 was a big year for him, playing major festivals in Louisville, KY and at Red Rocks Amphitheatre for Monolith Festival. Jackola has played alongside many internationally recognized DJs including DJ Shortee, JJ Flores & Steve Smooth, Mickey Avalon, Dirt Nasty, Tommie Sunshine, and Scotty Thomson.

Jackola and some long time friends founded sideTrack Entertainment in February 2007. The group started booking and promoting a weekly electronic night called PLUSH on Thursdays at Therapy Nightclub & Lounge in Indianapolis, IN. The night, which went strong for over 9 months, booked over 50 quality, up-and-coming DJs.

Jackola is also one of the founding promoters for the Broad Ripple Music Festival, a yearly festival featuring hundreds of bands on 20+ stages that benefits 20+ non-profits. He also writes a monthly column, “Discopolis”, for NUVO Newsweekly that covers dance and electronic music in Indianapolis.

I'll be playing the VIP After Hours Rock Room Stage on Saturday night, September 13, at 11pm.

The following weekend on Saturday, September 20 I'll play here in Indy at the annual Oranje Art & Music Expo. It's a pretty neat event with lots of cultural neato-ness going on.

Current mood:  content
Life has been too busy for Myspace blogs, which is probably a good thing ;).

DJing and such.
I've been DJing regularly since I moved to Indy in January, and that makes me le happy. This upcoming Monday I'll be spinning at Ugly Monday at Therapy. It's a monthly event that just recently moved back to Therapy.

I'm working on picking up DJ gigs at other local nightclubs, plus I have a few other upcoming gigs, such as an art opening on September's first friday at Black Door Gallery.

Our weekly at Therapy Nightclub has been going now for 4 months and going well. We're getting great DJs in there and cool people to boot. Even if it's slow some weeks, I'm more of a quality over quantity person. I think we've put on some quality Thursday evenings, and some weeks have even been fun and crazy.

Tonight Seth Nichols and wife/DJ LeahAnn will do their first ever public tag team set. That's pretty cool if you ask me. They've both been DJing for a while, and together run the only all-dance music vinyl store in Indy. In a couple weeks we're doing a special event called "PLUSH GOES NUTZ!" which will feature all Sound Nutz DJs.

If you care to know more about this weekly, add sideTrack on myspace. A few friends and myself run sideTrack.

RockMusicReview.com
Things have been up and down with RMR over the past few months. I've finally tackled the server issues the site was having, but have been slow at pursuing writers and getting up content. La vida loca is too crammed with stuff right now, so my priorities are constantly shifting around. Rest assured, RMR isn't going anywhere but up. Chris Donaghey is now the acting reviews editor, and he does a fine job of it. There's a few changes in the works, but I can't really say much until they happen.

Small Box Web
I've gone from freelance to part time at Small Box Web, an Indy-based web design & consulting company. I may even go full time here in the near future, who knows what the future holds. Either way, it's been going well. Freelance has been nice too. You may have seen some websites, concert posters and flyers floating around town that I designed.

NUVO Newsweekly
If you live in Indy and haven't heard of NUVO Newsweekly, then you're living under a rock and should probably just stay there.... or find NUVO and get out and socialize. Anyway, I've been writing for them since I moved here. So far I've written over 15 articles and taken photos of a dozen events for them. You can check out my stuff here. You can add NUVO on myspace here.

Broad Ripple Fall Music Festival
I'm involved in the organizing of a new festival, along with Small Box and NUVO, that will hit Broad Ripple on October 13, 2007. For that one day, over 25 venues in the 'Rip will have live bands, DJs, MC's and more. It's going to be a great thing. Stay tuned to my myspace - I'm sure I'll post more details about it soon. You can also add BRFMF on myspace.

Moved downtown.
I just moved to downtown Indy in Lockerbie Square. This area is so freakin' beautiful - I love it already. I'm just blocks away from Mass. Ave., literally right by College Ave. and just a few blocks away from Therapy Nightclub. Not to mention the house is freakin' sweet. Parties to ensue, I assure.

Have some flyers.
