The Jena 6 Project Update!

Brought to you by Motown Pride and Tampa Bay Artists United.

Please refer to my previous blog for the back story.

http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=181836027&blogID=301085226&Mytoken=611D201A-A02B-49B0-9E1719B107313ACD28324529

What was first just a single I was working on about Jena 6 to boost awareness and provide some financial support for the Jena 6 defense fund has manifested into something much more significant. The amount of support I've been getting from the Tampa Bay Spoken Word community and my artistic friends from abroad has been very inspiring. As a result the Jena 6 project will not only be a single, but a full length album featuring some of the premier artists in Tampa Bay along with special features from around the country. The hosts of some of the popular Spoken Word venues in Tampa Bay have agreed to each have shows donating their proceeds to the Jena 6 project as well. In a day of age where Black expression gets the tag of being politically and socially irresponsible, we've pledged as a community to shed that label and do our part to see that justice is served.

We are working on an aggressive timeline where we hope to have the CD ready for digital release in just a couple of weeks.

Here is a list of "confirmed" contributors:

Spoken Word Artists:

Daniel, Shawna, Reggie, Momowilly, Detyme, David D., Lizz Straight, Sania, Wally B, L.I.F.E, Adrienne, JB, Sin. Richard J, Nickai, Bluz, Asia Rainey, Cuban and Venus Jones

Hip Hop Artists:

3rd Brillyance, Kas, Sekajipo, NYOIL, Laws, TRUE LIFE, T. Storm

Production:

C-Skills of TRUE LIFE, DREDi the Beat Broker, Prophetic Omenz, Christian Hermanns, Deto22 of Phenetiks

Spoken Word Venues:

Straight Loca Presents, Permission to Speak Freely, Resurrection, Lyrical Aspirations, Heard Em' Say

Art Design:

Daisey of the Smile Rays

All of this will culminate in a big benefit (hosted by Straight Loca Presents) where most of the contributors on the CD will perform with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Jena 6 Defense fund.

If you are interested in contributing via artistic submission, financial resources, advertising, production (beats)....please contact me ASAP. All submissions will be evaluated first to see if it works with the direction of the album, but all interested will be provided a way to assist in the project.

Update!!!

Jena 6 Benefit Concerts

Jacksonville: Sept. 18 at Ragland's!

Tampa: Sept. 20 at the Harbor Club!

We can make a difference!

- Daniel :)

It will be available for online purchase September 20th. The quickest way to learn its availability is probably to subscribe to my blog where I will make a formal announcement. Thanks for showing interest.
