TIM SEZ: Since I'm revamping this page, I decided to post the original liner notes I wrote for the first four tunes I had up here since I first put it up. Liners for the new tunes will posted shortly.

A lot of you know me through MySpace, and have been wondering where to hear my music. Well, here you go! I have had two major bands in my lifetime, The Hormones and Napalm Stars. On this page, I will periodically spotlight two tracks apiece from those bands, with maybe the occasional preview from a solo work I have in progress, and will also keep you updated as I assemble my next band, The Cherry Darlings.

Now for the first four tunes you are hearing:

1. The Hormones - "Sell Out Young" A-side to the first seven-inch from 1994, and my first record ever released, played by John Peel on the BBC and reviewed in publications ranging from Maximum Rock 'n' Roll to Rolling Stone. Written just as grunge was hitting and major labels were taking the venom out of so-called "alternative rock": "Look what we've become!/Sell Out Young/We're the commodities at Number One...." Produced by Texas garage/punk legend Tim Kerr, and sounding a lot like the Avengers' Dangerhouse release in my mind. (Personnel: Tim Stegall [ME, YOU IDIOT!] - lead guitar & lead vocals; Ron Williams - bass & harmonies; Tim Hayes - rhythm guitar; Dana Barclay - drums)

2. The Hormones - "Castaway" Two years and two lineups later, the Rolling Stones and glam rock influences start surfacing on the A-side to our third seven-inch, produced by yours' truly. I also love the nod to the Byrds at the end. Some asshole approached our later guitarist Brew Zerr at Tower Records and asked why I was singing about white power and Nazis! How he got that out of a love song for a homeless girl, I will never know (Personnel: Same as "Sell Out Young," albeit with Suzy Martinez on drums and Lisa Wickware on rhythm guitar. Suzy tells me she's a realtor now. Go figure....)

3. Napalm Stars - "Rich Kid Radio" Fast forward to the next decade and a relocation from Austin to NYC. The glam elements are pushed way forward, filtered through strong lashings of Detroit 1969, "Motown Junk"-era Manic Street Preachers, and Scandanavian sleaze ala Backyard Babies and Turbo Negro. Our producer, Buzzcocks bassist Tony Barber, had to fly back to England after tracking was done, so I had to mix the tracks myself. He, to this day, hates my mix. I like it: I always wanted to make a record perched sonically somewhere between Give 'Em Enough Rope and Generation X's 1st LP. Written as NYC rock had transitioned from D Generation and the Coney Island High scene to trust fund babies doing bad Lou Reed ripoffs in Williamsburgh...which I guess makes it "Sell Out Young" recast ten years later....(Personnel: Tim Napalm - all guitars and lead vocals; Tommy Napalm - bass and vocals; Jonny Napalm - drums and vocals)

4. Napalm Stars - "Julie's In Love" The one track from the Misery EP Tony didn't produce, instead a self-produced track from two years earlier featuring the original Napalm Stars lineup. The song originated with The Hormones, but was carried over and more fully realized in the Napalms. Cut the only time I ever set foot into a proper 24-track studio with the old school two-inch analog tape machines, and it sounds MASSIVE! I remember as I went in to double track my guitar part, a student engineer started worrying that I was plugging the Marshall head into a 4X12 cabinet lying around the studio that had one busted speaker: "You can't use that!" I informed him to shut up and mic the busted speaker.... (Personnel: Tim Napalm - guitar, 2nd lead break, lead vocals; Seth Issacs - guitars, 1st lead break; Tommy USA - bass and vocals; Omar Starr - drums and vocals)
