Man...I just finished one of the best games ever! Yes, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is unequivocally, one of the best games you can play. It has everything you can wish for in a game: Good controls, exciting plot, suspense, action, good graphics and superb voice-acting.  Yes, it is a difficult game to play.  Oh gosh, I can't tell you how many times I almost threw my controllers at the screen, but hey, it's a stealth game, so you shouldn't make mistakes, coz in real life, mistakes will kill you. Well, that happens here too.  The good thing is it has a quick save feature, so even if you make a mistake, you can go back at your previous save point and try again.

And as an added bonus, you can play four missions with a friend! Yup. Two spies working together. It's just too cool.

Anyway, if you own an Xbox, get this one.

Now, to finish another very good game, Resident Evil 4. :)

Your hard drive, that is. Yes folks. Back up your hard drives. Do it once a month, a week, a day, whatever, just back up your hard drive. Why? Because you might just end up like this poor loser I know:

This loser owns a recording studio and didn't back up his hard drive. Yup, this poor loser, when his PC crashed, lost all his music files, settings for his recording software...basically putting his business in a standstill and sending the poor fella into the doctor's clinic for what turns out to be an anxiety attack. Yes folks, don't be like this poor loser. Back up your hard drive. Once a month, a week, a day, just back that damn thing up. Back it up with a pickup truck, I just don't give a cluck. (wanted to say something else..) hehe

Yes, folks, that poor loser. Had to do everything from scratch. Even bothered his poor brother in CA, who was probably scratching his head wondering "why didn't he back up his files?". Yeah, poor loser.

Anyway, I heard that the studio is back up again and that poor loser is gonna get an external drive to make backup copies of his files. Good for him. Good for the poor loser.

After almost THREE years, I finally finished Final Fantasy X. Yes, you read that right. THREE years. When I first got the game for my PS2, I didn't even think I'd like the game because I was never into RPGs. However, I read tons of positive reviews and decided to give it a try. Well, I got hooked and played the game continously until..until...I got stuck! And I mean, STUCK. Even with a damn walkthru, I still couldn't get past this one level. (The Bevelle level, with the damn orbs.) Well, I just decided to just stop trying and the game collected dust.

When I moved to the PI, I brought my PS2 with me (and my other consoles) and of course, FFX. I tried to play FFX, but the orb level still befuddled me. It was my nemesis! I decided again, to give up. Until...

Until I chatted with my cousin Pinkie. Our chats about FFX made me want to finish the game once and for all.

Armed with a new walkthru, I was FINALLY able to get past the Bevelle level! After that, it was an unstoppable locomotive to FINISH-ville! Yup, I finished the damn game. Damn it. Damn this game. Now, I'm having FFX withdrawal.

FFX. Damn you.

I have been busy, super busy, watching DVD movies these past few weeks! What? It's hard work to watch movies! Yes, if you're a movie-hating critic like me. Yup. I'm a hater. haha Anyway, since my wife wasn't feeling well too, we just decided to just watch movies that she borrowed from cousin AG. So now you know the story behind the reason why I have SO many reviews this time... hehe

The Departed

First of all, I loved Goodfellas. Sadly, this isn't Goodfellas. If Martin Scorsese wanted shock value, then he got it with this movie. Lots of shock, twists, turns, u-turns, exits, alt-esc-del, that you can imagine. And as you can imagine, after the movie, you'll be scratching your head and go "So, what's the point?" Departed stars Jack, Maht Day-mohn(!) (you have to watch Team America to get that), Martin Sheen, Marky Mark, and Leonardo Da Vinci Di Caprio. Story starts out simple enough; Di Cap is given an assignment by Sheen to go DEEP undercover to spy on Jack (Nicholson, so creepy...). Unbeknowngst to them, Creepy Jack has his own mole, Maht Day-mohn! Anyway, there's this six-degrees of Di-Cap goin on all thru the movie so please don't pay attention; In the end, you just won't care.

Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest

Fun movie! Depp is great as he returns as Jack Sparrow..oops, I mean, CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow. Anyway, this sequel continues the fun of the first movie, however, it IS darker than the first one. The cast returns, but Orlando Bloom is dull, like in the first one. ;) But, the movie works because of Johhny and the spectacular action scenes. (In the end though, you'll go, what, that's it?) :)

Silent Hill

Was looking forward to watching this since I played all FOUR games. Surprisingly, it wasn't that bad. The effects were great; they got the look of the town down. The monsters were creepy too. (too bad Triangle Head only makes a few appearances though.) I just liked the homages to the game though. Little stuff like the "radio" effect (with a cellphone), the "flashlight", and finding clues to solve the game, err, I mean the movie. :) I just didn't like the bland story. Silent Hill (the game) has enough stories for 16 films and they had to create a very predictable one for the film? Ugh.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose

1-2-3-4-5-6! 1-2-3-4-5-6! Trust me, after you see this movie, you'll be saying that too. hehe As something billed as a "true story" it should have delivered more scares than all the Friday the 13th combined. Sadly, it just beats 13th by one scare; the early morning scene when the boyfriend sees Emily laying prone on the floor. Yup. Spooky Rose! :)  Anyway, it's not entirely bad. The cast does a fine job with their roles and it's a nice diversion while it lasts. Just don't expect to get scared.

X-Men 3: The Last Stand

Yup, last stand. Heard that before. KNOWING Hollywood, there'll be X-Men 4: The LAST Stand, REALLY. Because, how can you end this series on this stinker? The first two was really good and then you end up with this boring and messed up movie? It's like they wanted to take out ALL the interesting parts of the first two movies with this one. Sad. Really sad. If you don't want to ruin the good vibes created by the first two movies, skip this one.

Desperate Housewives Season 2

I know, I know, this isn't a movie. But I said, DVD reviews and we watched this on a DVD full of episodes. hehe Hate to admit it, but I'm hooked on this quirky series. Lots of twists and turns, that on TV, works. (maybe Departed should be made into a TV series? hehe) Anyway, if you haven't been watching the series, and I guess there are some, rent season 1 first, because season 2 just ups the ante on how enjoyable it is to watch this sinfully delightful show. :) (See, I'm not a total hater.) hehe

Crank

Basically, Transporter on crack. Yup. Stars the same guy too. hehe Our hero, Jason Statham, wakes up to find he's been poisoned and has only hours to live. He then goes on a rampage to find his "killers" and set things straight. It's a revenge movie where the victim is still alive. hehe Interesting premise, but it feels like more emphasis was on the editing than fabricating a better story. Still, it is a very fast-paced movie that will keep your eyes entertained.

Aite. That's all for now folks. See you next time.

Just random thoughts right now..

- Watching the Niners game LIVE! It's a big deal here in Philippines because they rarely show 49ers games here. Heck, they only show 3 football games max, if I'm lucky. Shoot, even ESPN Asia sometimes pre-empts football with other sports, like golf. UGH. No respect for football; American football. hehe

- Matt Vasgersian is calling the Niners/Seahawks game. I just know him as the voice for MLB:06 The Show game for PS2.

- Been playing Final Fantasy X again. Two years ago, I started to play this game, but stopped when I got stuck in the Bevelle Temple. With the move to PI, this game REALLY gathered dust until a week ago when my Ate Pinkie and I started chatting about this game. This piqued my interest again and I downloaded a walkthru and have FINALLY passed that stupid temple area. Now, to the chagrin of my loving wife, I'm becoming obsessed of LEVELING UP! hahaha In fact, this retro-gaming made me wax poetic of my favorite games of the past, which I wrote in my Friendster blog.

- My baby finally had his first solid food! Woohoo! Mr. Adorable actually finished his plate. Dang. I wonder if he's ever goin to slim down. :D

- There is a USED song that's on my head right now, but I don't know the title. It goes "I just want to bring you down.." in the chorus. Sounds good.

- I'm getting more customers in the studio. I'm actually working again. Dang. It's tiring to work. haha (I've gotten lazy.)

OK, Seahawks just scored...Time to watch more football...

Current mood:  irate

Ugh. One thing that irks me is an intellectual snob. They think they're the smartest folks in the world and they LOVE shoving your face with their "intelligence."

I was reading a post on my friend's blog and this one person that replied to him kept referring to others as "naive". He was implying that he was in the right and the other guy is wrong, because basically, because the other person didn't share the same opinion as he does.

Well, let me break it to you Mr. Smarts, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just because you read so many books, doesn't mean you're an intellectual; it just means you read many books! Kudos to you for being patient enough to read stuff; Me, I like my brain-cell robbing TV. (But, hey, I'm no intellectual.)

Truth is, in my very humble opinion, intellectuals that quote books or professors, to express their OWN opinions, aren't intellectuals at all. In fact, I might say you're not enlightened at all. True philosophers and intellectuals, they develop theories on their owns. Each have their "Eureka!" moments that help shape the thinkings of generations to come. What most intellectual snobs does is just regurgitate information that they read and try to intimidate others into their line of thinking. That, my friend, is not very enlightened. Plus, in your post, you used the word "shear" when you meant to use "sheer." Yup, I had a laugh with that one. OK, I'm childish. Sue me.

So, for you intellectual snobs out there. Remember, you might know more stuff than me, but remember this; I don't care. hahaha

Having the midnight munchies, so I'm eating a bowl of cereal. (Yes, it says 10am as my posted time, but remember, I'm in the Philippines; I'm in the future!)

Man, trying to raise a kid sure does increase your appetite. It's probably from seeing him eat all day. Or, probably because you spend so much energy carrying him that you need to replenish! Whatever my excuse, I love to eat. (It shows!) hahaha

Aite, one more bowl and I'm goin back to sleep.

It's 3:31am and I am wide awake. Not because of my son Jerald wanting to be fed, which happens often, but because of my nemesis, la cucaracha; the dreaded cockroach. UGH.

Yes folks, the cockroach. God's creature that has been around since dinosaur times. The cockroach, the filthy, disease-germs-bacteria-yuck-laden insect that seems to be able to slip into the smallest crack of the house in order to enter. Yes, the filthy cockroach that can also take beating and keeps on ticking, even after getting a direct hit from a sandal. And yes, in the Philippines, these damn filthy insects can even fly! Double-ugh!

The fact that I have a four-month old son to protect from these creatures makes me yearn for the time that I can leave this forsaken area. I really HATE cockroaches.

It's 3:54am here in Manila and I'm ready to go back to sleep again. That's life for a parent I tell ya. It seems like our son likes to wake up at 3am now. My wife Carie and I seem to take turns on who takes care of Jerald during the wee hours of the AM and today was her turn. Actually, it has been her turn for the last week! hehe I guess she's in the mood to take care of our fat boy (but extremely CUTE fat boy!) Not to be the stereotypical overly proud dad, but I know our baby is cute because whenever we go to a store, the salesladies all flock to him. Why? Besides his cuteness, he has a ready smile when strangers (esp women) come talk to him. Yup, heartbreaker when he grows up! hehe

Anyhoo, I think Mr. Sandman is finally calling me. Better get my shuteye before the crying starts again... (yes, MY CRYING!)
