Hi Everyone. We are in the process of adding & setting up Charlie's blog on Blogspot. We think it will be more accessible on Blogspot and hope all his loyal participants here on MySpace will follow him over to Blogspot too. We have decided to leave both blogs up for the time being however.

We are just getting started with it, so it will be updating frequently with information and designs.

We appreciate all the input you have been giving to us over on Facebook and on the new blog. If you posted on any of the blogs that are up here on MySpace, please feel free to copy and paste some of your comments from MySpace on the new blog and get some discussion going on over there!

We were asked if we would put the blogs on both places, MySpace and Blogspot and Charlie has decided that is a good idea, so at least in the beginning, we will be posting at both places.  If you participate in both blogs, feel free to participate with your posts by copying and pasting in both places as well.  The more people discussing, the better!

To read Charlie's first blog over on Blogspot, see why we decided to move it, and learn how to sign on over there so that you can comment and participate, you will need to go to Blogspot.com and type in charlesshaughnessyblog.blogspot.com (charlesshaughnessyblogDOTblogspotDOTcom) in your browser.

Unfortunately, MySpace will not let us put an actual link to Blogspot from here so the links it keeps making, won't work.  where it says DOT, (in red above) you want to put a "period" when typing in your browser to get to the new site.  Sorry for the confusion.

If you are on either Official Charles Shaughnessy's FRIEND page on Facebook or Official Charles Shaughnessy FAN page on Facebook you can sign up to follow the new blog on Networked Blogs as well and be notified every time a new blog is posted.

Thanks to all of you for your loyalty in participating in and following Charlie and his blogs from his Official website to MySpace to Blogspot as the Internet has grown and changed. ONLY CONNECT!!

I don't think I can put it any better than this open letter my brother wrote to our activist, Conservative Supreme Court........

Chief Justice Roberts

In light of the recent ruling with regards to Campaign Financing,  and as an extremely concerned American Citizen, I would respectfully like to have the following presented to the Court for consideration.

It is clear that this activist ruling has abandoned all hope of a fair impartial Court and has rather split it into a Partisan battlefield.  This is a disservice to the people of the United States of America and the democratic process we all hold so dear.

I would ask the following of the majority:

Does a Corporation receive an election ballot?  Is a Corporation on the voter registration? Can a Corporation be called for Jury Duty?

How then, can we consider a Corporation to be an INDIVIDUAL with freedom of Speech relating to electioneering and political INFLUENCE?   Indeed, a Corporation is guilty of massive SUPRESSION of speech!  It is made up of hundreds of individual employees.  Are we going to take a poll of all those employees and place financial influence where the MAJORITY chooses it to go? After all, would that not be the "DEMOCRATIC" way?!  Hardly!

The influence will go where only the MINORITY Board of Directors and owners (who often are not even American Citizens and have no CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to be influencing our political system,) choose it to go...most likely in direct opposition to the will of the MAJORITY!  This is HARDLY DEMOCRACY!

Let us not forget that DEMOCRACY comes from the Greek, "Demos" the PEOPLE. Last time I checked, we're not living in a CORPOCRACY!  I urge the Court to reverse its dangerous decision which has put us on the slippery slope to a systematic demolition of our democratic process!

If a Governor accepts money to look favorably on a supplicant's plea for sympathetic legislation, it is called corruption and a jail sentence is imposed. If a U.S. Senator accepts money to look favorably on a supplicant's plea for sympathetic legislation it is called a constitutionally protected right of free speech and the champagne is popped. First Massachusetts, and now this. These Republicans will not rest until we declare this the United States of Shame.

Well, I'm singing Bee Gees tonight. What were you THINKING Massachusetts? I guess you don't want affordable Health care or consumer protection or a regulated Wall Street or a recovering economy or a safer planet or a cleaner planet or a fairer planet. What were you THINKING?!! You all seemed pretty nice, smart people the other weekend. You seemed to appreciate the Kennedy legacy of service and compassion for those less able to fend for themselves. You seem to honor substance and experience over instant-soup variety style and glamor. You never struck me as the kind of folk who would be fooled by malicious and partisan sound-bites. I can't believe YOU were ever taken in by those traiterous "Swift Boat" liars and scamps. So....what were you THINKING?????

A variety of economists say that stimulus legislation is helping an economy in free fall a year ago to grow again and shed fewer jobs than it otherwise would.
How soon we forget just how freaked out we all were. Now some lame-brains are blaming Obama for a "failing economy"! It really is too pathetic.....

Would any of our Libertarian or Republican friends care to comment?

What follows was on MSNBC the other day...Rachel Maddow's show.  The only thing that's missing from the transcript below are the pictures of the T-shirts, aprons on teddy bears, etc.:

MADDOW:  And then, there‘s this biblical quote making the rounds in anti-Obama circles.  As reported this week in the “Christian Science Monitor,” “Pray for President Obama, Psalm 109, verse eight.” k  What‘s psalm 109 version eight?  Well, it reads, “Let his days be few; and let another take his office.”  Let his days be few.  It‘s followed immediately by another verse, “Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.”

And don‘t forget, that sentiment is now being merchandised on bumper stickers, on mouse pads, on Teddy Bears on aprons, framed tiles—those are nice.  Keepsake boxes, t-shirts?  “Let his days be few”—cute on a Teddy Bear.

Has anybody else crept out by this?

Joining us now is Frank Schaeffer, whose father, Francis Schaeffer helped shape the evangelical movement in the United States.  Mr. Shafer grew up in the religious far-right and he‘s the author of “Patience with God: Faith for People Who Don‘t Like Religion (or Atheism).”

Mr. Schaeffer, thanks very much for coming back on the show.

FRANK SCHAEFFER, AUTHOR, “PATIENCE WITH GOD”:  Thanks for having me on.

MADDOW:  “Let his days be few; and let another take his office,” “Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.”  This is such strong language in secular terms about President Obama.  Can you tell me if this means something less threatening to people hearing this in a biblical context?

SCHAEFFER:  No, actually, it means something more threatening.  I think the situation that I find genuinely frightening right now is that you have a ramping up of biblical language—language from the antiabortion movement, for instance, death panels and this sort of thing.  And what it‘s coalescing into is branding Obama as Hitler, as they‘ve already called him, as something foreign to our shores.  We‘re reminded of that.  He‘s born in Kenya—as brown, as black, above all, as not us.  He is Sarah Palin‘s not a real American.

But now, it turns out, that he joins the ranks of the unjust kings of ancient Israel, unjust rulers, to which all these biblical illusions are directed who should be slaughtered, if not by God, then by just men.

So, there‘s a direct parallel here with Timothy McVeigh‘s t-shirt on the day of the Oklahoma City bombing in which he said that the tree of liberty had to be watered occasionally by the blood of tyrants.  And that quote, we saw again at a meeting at which Obama was present being carried on a placard by someone carrying a loaded weapon.

What we‘re looking at right now is two things going on.  We see the evangelical groups that I talk about in my new book, “Patience with God,” enthralled by an apocalyptic vision that I go into in some detail there.  They represent the millions of people who have turned the “Left Behind” series into best sellers.  Most of them are not crazy, they‘re just deluded.

But there is a crazy fringe to whom all these little messages that have been pouring out of FOX News, now on a bumper sticker, talking about doing away with Obama, asking God to kill him.

Really, this is trolling for assassins.  And this is serious business.

It‘s un-American.  It‘s unpatriotic.

And it goes to show that the religious right, the Republican far right, have coalesced into a group that truly want American revolution.  And if it turns out to be blood in the streets and death, so be it.  This is not funny stuff anymore.  They cannot be dismissed as just crazies on the fringe.  It only takes one.

You know, look at “The Boston Globe” article a few weeks ago saying that the threat level faced by the Secrete Service has gone up 400 percent, higher than any other time in 52 years for any president, Democrat or Republican.  These are no jokes.

And as I talk about in “Patience with God,” if you trace these origins back to this paranoid, evangelical group, of which me and my father, sadly, were not only leaders, but leaders in the ‘70s and ‘80s, the foot soldiers that people like Dick Armey and others are using now to push their political agenda onto health care, are also people that have within their ranks, people, such as the person who murdered Dr. Tiller and killed three police officers in Pittsburgh because they thought Obama would take away their guns.

This bumper sticker simply says to them: “It‘s open season.”

MADDOW:  And to be clear—I mean, over-the-top political criticism is as American as apple pie.  And incredibly intense criticism has been lobbied against George W. Bush and against every president that‘s gone before modern times.  But you‘re saying that there‘s essentially a religious inflection in the most extreme of the commentary against Obama, that sort—that‘s operating on a religious level, that‘s a signal to a religiously-minded audience.

SCHAEFFER:  Absolutely.  Look, this is the American version of the Taliban.  The Taliban quotes the Quran and al Qaeda quotes certain verses in the Quran, in and out of context, calling for jihad and bloody war and the curse of Allah on infidels.

This is the Old Testament biblical equivalent of calling for “Holy War.”  Now, most Americans will just see the bumper sticker and smile and think that it‘s facetious.  Unfortunately, there are 22 million Americans or so who just call themselves super-conservative evangelicals.  Of this, a small minority might be violent, but the general atmosphere here is really getting heated.

And what surprises me is that responsible—if you can put it that way—Republican leadership and the editors of some of these Christian magazines, et cetera, et cetera, do not stand-up in holy hour (ph) and denounce this.

You know, they‘re always asking, “Where is the Islamic leadership denouncing terrorism?  Why aren‘t the moderates speaking out?”  Well, I challenge the folks who I used to work with, that I talk about in my book, “Patience with God,” and I would just say to them, “Where the hell are you?  This is not funny anymore.  And be it on your head if something happens to our president, if you are going to go around supporting and not speaking out against this stuff.

It‘s just not a question of who‘s doing it.  The bigger question is: where are the people speaking out against these things?  I don‘t hear those voices raised in the evangelical fundamentalist community.  And until I do, I—and my opinion is, they are culpable.

One last thing on this, I think it points at the fact that Obama supporters, of which I have been one since he began running, have better start speaking up in support of him and not sniping at him all the time because he‘s not moving toward change as fast as we‘d like in every area.  This is serious stuff.  The chips are down.  He has real enemies.  Some of them are violent.

And as far as I‘m concerned, it‘s time to support our president, stand with him, and not only wish him the best, but as a believing Christian myself, pray for his safety in the face of these religious maniacs, who every day, you know, one time I was on your show awhile back and they were talking about, “Is he the antichrist?”  Now, they are asking he‘s an unjust ruler and they‘re asking God to strike him down.  There are very not many steps left on this insane path.

MADDOW:  Frank Schaeffer is the author of “Patience with God”—Mr.

Schaeffer, thank you for your time tonight.  Thank you.

Only connect, my friends!
Cheers,
Charles Shaughnessy

Charlie reprises his role as SAINT JOHN POWELL in the EMMY, Golden Globe, SAG award winning series MAD MEN on AMC in Season 3, Episode 13: (Season Finale) SHUT THE DOOR, HAVE A SEAT "

Charlie's comments on working on his 3 episodes of MAD MEN in Season 3

"Well I have just wrapped my role on Season 3 of Mad Men. I can't tell you anything about it ( you think the whereabouts of Bin Laden is a well guarded secret!!) but I can tell you that this season is as addictive as the other two. It is the first time I have even been cast on a show of which I was already such a huge fan, so I am constantly fighting being star-struck on set. The amazing thing is that it is all done on such a small budget, which just goes to prove my point that talent and class will put a shine on a nickel. Matthew Weiner has to be about the smartest writer in TV at the moment, not least because he has the self-confidence to surround himself with other smart people. Every department is inspired: from wardrobe, to sets, from props to the magnificent lighting and camera work. I am in awe of all of them and I feel it a tremendous honor and privilege to have been counted among their company. Enjoy!!"

Until we, and I include our President, understand that Afghanistan has been the rock on which many Empires have been wrecked, from Alexander the Great to the Soviet Union  with the might of Victorian Britain thrown in for good measure, and until we understand that the "sine qua non" in the whole mess is the participation of India in the peace process, then we are doomed to suffer the same fate as those that came before. Define "success" with limited goals, define "failure" with limited criteria, engage India and GET OUT while you can!

I have been thinking about the future of our planet, and I am a confirmed optimist. We face all kinds of threat and imminent chaos from all directions, both man-made and natural. But I do feel that this incredible medium of the internet might just be the vital part, of what is an ongoing process, to make the difference that saves us all. Yes, it can spread false rumor and innuendo as fast as it can facts and information, but just the level and breadth of debate that this lil' ol' blog can inspire is, in itself, inspiring to me. If good ideas can be spread as fast and as wide as they can now, we might be able to effect real change. As long as we guard against sloppy investigation and make sure we corroborate what we see on the web, real interconnectivity can occur. Apart from what happened in the streets of Iran, can anyone else think of viral web campaigns that have made an almost instant change in the way we think about things

One last thing before we really should try to find another subject.

Are we not still at war? Are we not just as "at war" as we ever were under Pres. Bush. I think the hundreds of thousands of soldiers serving our country under fire would say so. So how come criticizing Bush was seen as giving comfort to our enemies and lambasted as "unpatriotic" or even "treacherous" by the likes of Cheney, Rumsfeld et al. while criticizing our current President, holding meetings and conferences specifically to do so, is being hailed by members of the House as patriotic and in the name of a just "rebellion"??????

Just wondering.....

I REALLY do want to get off this topic, but every time I decide to change the subject, some Republican makes it just gosh'darn impossible. This time it's John Boehner! In answer to Nancy Pelosi's emotional plea for moderation in the rhetoric of hate and violence coming out of the Right's efforts to quash Health Care reform, this hateful, treacherous piece of excrement ( yes, I AM getting pissed!) said: " we are in the middle of a modern day political rebellion in this country" and made no attempt to diffuse or distance himself from it. In other words: if you oppose us politically, you are taking your life into your own hands! I am telling you: from Jim Wilson's well-planned outburst, Glenn Beck's Tea Bag March, Eric Cantor's words of revolt - the Right is hell-bent on setting the stage for violence and rebellion. The Constitution is under threat and we are doing nothing about it. What makes it all so ironic is that the one State that stands to get the most help from Obama's health plan is the one State that has the worst record for infant mortality, teenage pregnancy, teenage cancer and uninsured in the whole country. And guess who's State it is. Oh, come on...it's not that hard to guess!
