Buffaloswans are pleased to announce the recording of a brand new record over the coming Spring. Though winter is quite real at this moment, the ether of thin air and crystalline forms are beginning to melt into less solid drops. Dripping. On grasses. Which shall grow up to be green. To become what they already are. We are to bear witness to this change and give it a soundtrack all at once.
Our first record, if you happen to own it, was somehow somewhere somewhen about the idea of duality. About the world of form. A place in which we are made of opposites that attract and repel and relate and disassemble. A place that is ruled by time. We/it/all come together. Fall apart. Spin. Push. Pull. Collapse. And rebirth each and every thing.
However, there is more! There Is the force that gives birth to all this motion. It Is the existence that sustains all that momentum. I think it is can be said as, "What causes all that propulsion?" Obviously, a question for an answer. But without form, there can be no statement. So, with this abstract mess to clean up, we have designed a musical piece. It's more like a painting than anything else really. It is entitled The Body Electric. It is about spirit, atmosphere, space, creation, mood, consciousness, and love.
We are continuing our tradition of recording to analogue tape at Ogre Studios, as it is incredibly satisfying to have magnetic material pressing against other material to create magic. The forthcoming record will be released this summer, and will be debuted entirely at a fine theatre gig this coming February 9th, 2009. We sincerely hope you will come out and hear our efforts to speak of things which are not easily spoken. Sing of things unsung. We wish to share in the joy of creativity and inspiration with all of you. We hope you continue to find joy in what we are doing.
Peaceout friends! Buffaloswans

Thank you to everyone who came out for making the greatest show Buffaloswans ever had. For those of you who stood in line and didn't get in, I am sorry and we will make it up to you.
I'm leaving Vancouver for some sunny love down way south in the morning. I'll be back in a couple months. And so will WE.
Your friend, Scott

Here are just a few pictures of what this past weekend looked like getting those CDs of yours and ours out. Thank you everyone for buying all 50 of them! In one night! There are 100 being done by hand in the same way. And they are made of different colour so as to keep them independent of the first 50. Each edition is also special this way. If anyone would like a copy please write me here and I will either ship them to you or bring them to you on my bike (depending) when they are finished. Oh, and this is the work of Cheylene Tattersall.....if you require any design or hard-work this is the girl for you.... Behind the scenes:

Some thought on the first song of our record, The Queen Of The Sun. Though the origin of the song was not based on the tarot, I am now convinced the woman in my dreams must have been this archetype which we, musically, were trying to describe. Consciousness and creativity are funny things. It took me an entire year to even hint at what I was channeling then. Read this and then listen to the song again. To her own author, she suddenly made sense. Traditionally entitled "Empress," this major arcana or "trump" card portrays the energy of the Great Mother. She is Nature, around us but also within us, the ever-unfolding Source of life-giving power. She is often pictured as a pre-Christian Goddess, as the one whom the High Priestess is channeling down to earth for the rest of us. In medieval Europe, the Empress card was painted to represent whatever Queen currently ruled the land, probably to satisfy the Inquisitors. But the scholars of the Renaissance and beyond had no doubt of her true identity, although she could not be fully revealed on Tarot cards as the "woman clothed with the sun" until after the French Revolution. This supreme archetype of femininity also symbolizes fertility. It is She who provides us nourishment and security. She is also sometimes seen as delighting us with flowers and fruit. A potentially terrifying aspect of this archetype manifests itself whenever karmic mood swings wipe out our plans, like a storm that has come upon us. Whatever happens, the Empress is the Source of our Embodiment and of Natural Law. She might even be called "the Great Recycler."

There are plans. Alot of them. How about a rundown?
1. We are finally putting out a small run of the album that spawned the buffaloswans. We are going to be finishing it and hand screening it ourselves with the help of our good friend Cheylene Tattersall. We are limiting this pressing to 50 for now, and hopefully will be able to afford to put out another 50 if anybody wants to buy one.. which, you know, you probably do because the record SOUNDS great. It is simply called 'Buffaloswans'. It has 9 song and runs 46 minutes. It is a psychedelic folktale.
2. We are recording 'The Body Electric EP' of some of our new songs in studio very soon. We are going to do it all old-school... mics up, all performed live and straight down to tape. And with less manipulation than the last 20 years or so would have you believe is possible.
3. We are playing a few shows coming up. The first is the CD Release of sorts. Sunday, August 19th at The Railway Club. This is a bittersweet show as it will be our last show with our guitarist Dan Toews. Dan is a very fundamental part to what we do in this band, and it saddens me to think of musical life (and all the other parts of life) here in Vancouver without him, as he is one of the most brilliant musicians I can imagine. He is off to Ontario, and we all wish him well!
The other show is at The Royal Unicorn on Friday, August 31st. On the bill will be some friends from Montreal called People For Audio and local awesomeness ESL. Due to Dan's departure and James being on tour with his own project, this is going to be a very bizarre show for us. We are going to be a 3-piece, with our good friend Caitlin Gilroy playing banjo and cello on some songs as well! Onward and upward, as they say.
4. Does anybody want to help us put this stuff out properly?

This is what happens when you wake and you are me.
Two Races ... mazy, I think of of our silences blowing leaves through your streets. the rhythm of the wind above where we sleep. mazy, i think of water and its ripple in the animals' stream. i think of the pauses i see in dreams and then i wonder what they mean.
the kiss of the seal and the bare and surreal. the moon chasing down the sun and how that race is never undone. and sleep's skinny white hand lulling me to ether and her dozy sands. and that lovely light in your eyes, and how it shines but also how some nights it's not so bright.
when you wake do you ever think of only me? is there a half-hearted word that you would care to release? because i was thinking how i believe it's greater to let it be. and then i was seeing your curves take on the shape of the sea.
i wonder why there are two races. two tunnels i run through. and how time would measure those flights in the early morning blue? can those races ever be merged or ever become fused? the race that i think and the one that i wake up and i do.

Asstular curve. Fortuitous motion. The song you always knew you never knew. An intense rebellion. Grey, cruddy, ashy shell. Cookies. A sore masturbating arm. Biocularity. Broken skies. Pluralization. Improper articles. Sinister brain malfunction. Alignment with god. God. Big, curly hair. Labotomies for twentysomethings. Beautiful, glowing children. Economy. Impending doomed past. Misguided libido. Haircuts. Weightloss. Ain't no lesson in the sky. Nervous conversation anticipating its end. Inventing shit on the spot. I am a teacher. I am not a teacher. Hot slaves.

We are recording our first album at The Hive with Mr. Jesse Gander It is a pretty surreal process being on this side of the glass.
We are all working hard to make this SPONTANEOUSLY combust for you. "Believe me," says the buffalo.
