The ultimate riffers who “make movies funny” on the Internet comedy
sensation RiffTrax.com will fling wisecracking commentary LIVE at a color
version of “Plan 9 from Outer Space,” a 1959 science fiction/horror film
featuring aliens, zombies, amateurish special effects and bad acting. Written,
produced and directed by Edward D. Wood Jr., “Plan 9” is often regarded as the
"worst movie ever made." ....
Presented by NCM
Fathom and Something Awful, this exclusive RiffTrax Live: Plan 9 from Outer Space
event is hosted by Veronica Belmont, co-host of Revisions3’s tech-centric show,
“Tekzilla” and “Qore” on the
PlayStation Network. Something Awful’s Rick “Lowtax” Kyanka will present a
guest segment and Jonathan Coulton is the special
musical guest. The event will also feature an exclusive look at a new,
never-before-seen short that audiences may download following the event. A URL
and code will be revealed at the end of the event for the short as well as a
free autographed digital photo and song by the RiffTones. ....
“We love doing live
shows – the humor is so infectious it just multiplies the fun,” said Michael J.
Nelson, RiffTrax creator and former host and writer of the Emmy-nominated,
Peabody Award-winning Mystery Science
Theater 3000. “So to be able to bring this experience to so many
people is very exciting.” ....
Mystery
Science Theater 3000 spent a total of 11
seasons on Comedy Central and the Sci Fi Channel in the late 1980s through 1999. The series
features a man and his robot sidekicks who are trapped in space by an evil
scientist who forces them to watch terrible science fiction B-movies. The three
make fun of each film, providing hilarious commentary or "riffing.” Nelson
created RiffTrax in 2006 to continue the “riffing” on blockbuster films such as
“Star Wars: Episode 1” and “Star Trek.” RiffTrax are downloadable online and are
played along with the film, providing a unique and amusing commentary throughout
the course of the movie. ....
RiffTrax Live: Plan 9 from Outer Space
appears on the big screen in high definition with Cinema Surround Sound in 434
select AMC Entertainment Inc., Celebration! Cinema, Cinemark USA Inc., Cobb Theatres, Georgia Theatre Co.,
Goodrich Quality Theaters, Hollywood Theaters, Kerasotes Showplace Theatres, Marcus Theatres and Regal
Entertainment Group movie theaters, as well as Arlington Theatre (Santa Barbara,
Calif.) and Palace Cinema 9 (South Burlington, Vt.) through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network.
....
“NCM Fathom is
continually bringing unique in-theater programming to local movie theaters
across the country – from Off-Broadway and opera to anime and drum corps
competition and everything in between,” said Dan Diamond, vice president of
Fathom. “RiffTrax
Live is a hilarious event that is perfectly suited for the big
screen and not only riffs on the worst movie ever made, but allows audiences to
experience this hilarious adventure LIVE alongside other fans in an entirely new
way.” ....

When will they invent a bloodthirsty, evil hell-beast for the rest of us? They have! Gone are the days when vampires were dreary, basement dwelling Eastern Europeans in capes. Now they are dreary, fey little d-bags wearing lipstick and shuffling around like unenthusiastic Lord Byron impersonators without the animal machismo or ruffled shirts. And they’re sparkly.

On February 1st, I made a vow to eat nothing but bacon for the entire month. This I faithfully carried out, to the letter and at great sacrifice, until just yesterday, when circumstances forced on me by unnamed parties made compliance impossible. I understand that this will be disappointing to certain people, especially those in the smoked meat community, and if you were offended, then I am sorry... that your standards are such that even the smallest deviations from perfection would cause you offense. But now, I'd like to move forward. I ask that you respect my privacy of my family during this very difficult time. Bacon Shame

Very exciting news here. (That is if you like this kind of thing. If you're left cold by it, well, then I over sold it and I owe you an ice cream cone...) If you like the shorts we did for MST3K, you'll most likely enjoy these. And there's a brand new animation - check out the sample. Cheers

The RiffTones are in for a tough fight in the final round of our Song Fu competition. I urge you to go here, listen to the entries (scroll down a bit for our current round), and then vote your conscience.* Kevin Murphy is in top form on vocals - he sounds a little like Billy Joel doing his best Neil Diamond impression. *In other words, vote for us.
