Madvillainy
Madvillain is Mad Impressive
Pitchfork, The Village Voice, and All Music Guide all know how significant the influence of Madvillain's Madvillainy is on Hip Hop and now's your chance to experience their genius first-hand! A collaboration between the phenomenal MCs/Producers MF Doom and Madlib, Madvillainy takes Hip Hop to new heights by experimenting with short songs, obscure lyrics, and a limited amount of hooks. You won't find this on the radio, but it could be the best Hip Hop you'll ever hear!

Ghetto Fabulous
Haitian Soul
We love Karlex and his unique blend of classic soul, funk, and reggae music. His relaxing grooves and positive message are inspiring in light of the turmoil, poverty, and harsh political conditions in Haiti where he grew up. Karlex's Ghetto Fabulous is not about the bling, but instead about finding joy and happiness even in the most difficult circumstances.

Hey friends,
This week we're introducing an especially diverse group of artists from four different continents. These releases cover a lot of musical ground, so be brave and discover something new!

Verge Records
The Inspiring New Sounds of Rio de Janeiro

A Music "Carnivale" from Brazil

This compilation, recently lauded by the NY Times for its socially conscious songs, presents a talented array of Brazilian artists, revealing the diversity of cultures that Brazilian music truly encompasses. From jazz to hip hop to rock to samba, this album "seeks to strengthen the public's engagement with the vibrant urban culture of distressed neighborhoods across the globe." Proceeds will support the construction of a recording studio for developing artists in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Reciba a Amie Street!

Tommy Slax
The Spaulding Years

Who / What is Tommy Slax?

Here's all the information we could find about Tommy Slax: "he was raised 2 million years ago by a family of pygmy pandas. These pandas had arms for legs, legs for noses, and noses for arms. The anatomy and physiology of these pandas is both impossible and unimportant, and also an untruth, meant to distract you from the thief that just absconded with your wallets."

Tom Langford
Here Comes Memory

Award-winning Acoustic Rock

Hitchhiking through the European countryside one evening, Tom landed at a house where five musicians had taken up residency. After a few days of living with them and playing music from morning to night, living on bananas, tea and toast, he had a pretty strong sense of at least one path he wanted to follow. Tom has since been awarded XM Satellite Radio's Best New Acoustic Rock Artist of the Year, 2005.

The Exploders
Mondays In Spaceland

A Little Aussie Retro

This Australian rock band made the long trip all the way to Los Angeles to record this awesome live album at The Spaceland. The Exploders are self-described retro and are heavily influenced by Cream, The Beatles and the pop-rock of the 60s. Their brand new album Easy and the Sun comes out in a little less than a month.

The Seedy Seeds
Change States

Making the Band–Indie Rock Style

With an assortment of instruments, ranging from the banjo, to the accordian, to the cello, to clicks of a pen, The Seedy Seeds have more than just an original name. They started the band by learning how to play the instruments they had lying around the apartment, and the sound they came up with is self-described as "dancy pop that is the best music ever."

Destruments
Destruments

The next generation of funk… and soul… and hip hop

Stephen "Doc" Kupka, of the legenary group Tower of Power, had this to say: "Destruments is a talented young band that captures the spirit of Tower of Power as well as the current trends in popular urban music. It is exciting for me to see the next generation of R&B coming out of Oakland where I got my start and which remains in a special place in my heart." Amie Street had this to say: word.

Hey friends,
Come find some great music you've never heard before!

Meat Puppets
Rise to Your Knees

Indie Rock Pioneers

Here's the brand new release from the band Kurt Cobain covered and shouted out in Nirvana's famous MTV Unplugged performance in 1993. These pioneers of Indie Rock, who broke the scene in the 80s and made way for grunge in the 90s, are back in 2007, coming full circle. "This record is very much a return to our '80s approach," said Curt Kirkwood of the album Rise to Your Knees. "It cost next to nothing to make, and everything on it is a first take. My attitude now is that I refuse to spend a lot of money on this, I refuse to overthink it, and I refuse to let other people impose their own agendas on my band."

Ninja Academy
Spaceland Presents: Ninja Academy [at the Echo January 19th, 2007]

There are Ninjas in Los Angeles

These Ninjas "are so Ninja, labels don't even know about us," but they did make at least one appearance for a great live show at the Echo. This record has a ton of energy, but they're thrashing wild performances are not meant as a distraction. Instead their music is about experimentation, combining jazz and blues with rock and punk to produce songs like "Your Kung Fu Sucks."

School of Beats
Lesson II - Validation

DC is Bumping!

Their musicianship and talent is evident from the first track to the last, and the album is polished. The beats are original, dropping funk and jazz bass lines, and the numerous emcees on Lesson II - Validation are full of more than just clever rhymes. Check it.

The Populars
TheVindicator LP

Complicated Pop from Young Veterans

This power pop trio describes their new album as "inexplicably riddled with hooks and melody-and showcaseing a young band full of veterans." The sound swings from synthesized and electronic melodies to straight up rock 'n roll. This album covers a lot of ground musically and probably has a song you can get into.

Glovebox
GLOVEBOX

This is Dance music. Serious Dance Music.

Self-described as "a cross between Moloko and an acid trip," Glovebox has crafted an album "of such sublime beauty and rhythm that you will be hard pressed to stay in your seat when you hear it." So get up and get going.

Master P and Romeo "Let the Kids Grow."

This compilation includes an exclusive track from one of the founding fathers of hip hop, Master P, collaborating with the new generation, his son Romeo. Though it may be impossible to say who is more popular, father or son, their new album and new venture, Take A Stand Records, is working to take hip hop in a new direction.

We've got some great new releases up at www.amiestreet.com this week- Check 'em out!

Some Velvet Morning
Settle Down- Single

Indie Rock, Alternative
The popular London-based trio, Some Velvet Morning, will finally hit the States this fall with their highly anticipated debut album. For now, SVM, which has the most REC'D song of all time, "Losing My Mind", is also releasing advanced singles on Amie Street, starting with "Settle Down" today.

The band will also be chatting live with fans on the homepage at 2:30 EDT, so you can ask them to release more songs!

Le Jeune
For Club and Country

Pop, Indie Rock
The quintet is self-described romantic pop rock. The new album was recorded last summer in Richmond, VA at Sound of Music Studios with the help of Alan Weatherhead (Cracker, Cardigans, Sparklehorse). As the Washington Post Express said, "these guys sound like the band your best friend's cool older brother wouldn't stop listening to during his first summer home from college."

Hot One
Hot One

Punk, Glam, Rock
An NYC-based quartet headed by Nathan Larson, who is married to the lead singer of the Cardigand, Nina Persson (cool) was called "super-tuneful glam-rock that harbors a not-so-secret desire to overthrow 'the loathsome G.W. Bush cabal.'" by the Village Voice.

Jess Klein
City Garden

Folk Rock, Roots, Soul
This American folk singer/songwriter from Rochester, NY, started her musical career in her teens while living in Kingston, Jamaica. She's won a Boston Music Award as well as Telluride Troubador Songwriting Contests, and The Boston globe describes her as, "Quite simply one of the most gifted performers this area has produced."

Damien Dempsey
To hell or barbados

Folk, Rock, Singer-songwriter
Damien Depsey, the Ireland native who hails from the Northside of Dublin, has received critical success since his 1997 single, "Dublin Town," which reached No. 18 on the Irish charts. Gradually releasing at a larger scale, this humble musician has opened for Bob Dylan while he played in Ireland and also for Morrissey whom he opened for all over the UK and US.

Enter The Haggis
Soapbox Heroes

Folk Rock, Celtic, Jam Band
The Toronto-based band fuses Celtic music tradition with rock and has a socio-political edge as well. They pull no punches with their lyrics or musical experimentation and are often found jamming on stage. Soapbox Heroes is their fifth LP, produced by 4-time Grammy winner Neil Dorfsman who has worked with Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Sting and Dire Straits.

Piebald
We are the only friends we have

Indie Rock, Alternative
The name Piebald comes from an animal (usually a horse) with a spotting pattern of large white and black patches, and that's as far as we can take that one. But we are sure that the band, made up of Andrew Bonner, Luke Garro, Travis Shettel and Aaron Stuart are self-described alternative fuel and environment rockers. They have seen critical and popular success throughout their career that dates back to 1995 and they were chosen in 2004 to play the Warped Tour.

The Evil Queens
Lovesong Werewolves

Rock, Metal
The Columbus, Ohio-based band has already seen much critical acclaim, being called a "ferociously sloppy punk band" akin to the sound of the "underrated mid-70's Cleveland scene that produced Pere Ubu and the Dead Boys." This is their fourth album and is released on Ohio's Sunken Treasure Records.
