Ok, I Love MySpace. I do, I really do but one thing that really burns my buns while I'm here is that everyone has a profile that is so loaded down with obnoxious ass videos & annoying fucking songs & about a trillian slide shows & cajillion huge ass pics that it literally crashes my browser.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that we all come here to meet people & interact with them on some level. Most of you, take the time to write these beautiful touching lengthy biographies about yourselves, hoping that someone will read it, be touched & then contact you .
Then & this is what REALLY baffles me, you add some stupid ass background that obscures your text & you make the text the same color as your background making it virtually impossible for anyone to read it.
WHY!!! Then there are those of you that add like 1000 videos &/or pictures &/or Pic SlideShows. Do you really think that all of those pictures or videos represent you..as a whole..as a human being..
& if so, why do you feel the need to use so many..why not maybe try putting the pictures in the "ha ha" picture section of your profile *ahem* ya know you can upload like 100 pics or so now..Oh ya & there's a "video" section as well... where lord be praised.. you can upload your videos... gettin the hint.
I mean if the person coming to your page isn't even able to get it to load because your page is so overloaded with bullshit or can't read your masterfully written life's story because your page colors are so obnoxious & distracting that it literally hurts them to try, then maybe you should try these simple techniques :
#1 - Keep it simple STUPID!
I know this is a hard one for many of us. We're new to html, we think that if we add a million trinkets we will be "cool" enough to befriended. It's simply not true.
Step # 1 to keeping it simple includes, putting your pictures & videos in their rightful places leaving more room on your profile for the important things & making it so that it will not crash the layman users browser.
Step # 2 to keeping it simple includes, using text fonts & colors that people can actually read. I recommend using Tahoma, Ariel , Comic Sans, preferably in black & in an appropriate size like 2 or 3.
Step # 3 to keeping it simple includes, using a background color instead of a graphic or using a tasteful graphic that isn't busy & distracting. This includes making your information tables a color that is considerably lighter then your text color. Remember the whole point of all this is for people to be able to read the things you have written.
Step # 4 to keeping it simple includes, staying away from things that flash, blink or are just plain obnoxious. I know this is a very hard one, but seriously , your friends won't tell you this but that shit just isn't cool. It's not . Really. The Pirate wouldn't lie to you;)
Please don't take this the wrong way. I'm in no way saying you should have some plain boring ass profile. I'm just saying that while your creating your new masterpiece, keep your audience in mind & try to remember that not everyone is using a new smokin fast pc with satellite internet. To be honest as a web designer, I view the logs of my websites constantly to make sure I know my audience & I have found that the majority of users these days are using an outdated computer & dial up. This means that the majority of people who come to your page crash out & never even get to see all those pics & videos & slideshows you spent so much time finding & putting on there. Basically your wasting your time & my time with making crap pages.
Please make MySpace a more beautiful place & maybe think about redesigning your profile with the Keep It Simple Stupid Method.
