Three reviews of Melanie's performance in Blood Brothers have been published today, and they make for impressive reading!

Charles Spencer of The Daily Telegraph called Melanie's debut "absolutely sensational" and gave the show a resounding five stars adding: "If you haven't been to Blood Brothers before, make it a priority. If you have, you will need no further encouragement from me to see it again with Melanie C now in such glorious form."

Fiona Mountford of the London Evening Standard gave an equally rave review saying: "If we already knew she could sing, we might not have guessed she'd prove this adept in acting."
Giving another five star rating, she calls Melanie the "galvanising factor" in this wonderful show with her "terrific stage debut".

Meanwhile Mark Shenton of The Stage, said that Melanie's casting in the show was major coup, bringing "great humanity and humility to the role".

Well done Melanie!

It has been a busy couple of months for Melanie. Not only did Melanie make her West End debut in Blood Brothers, she also kept busy with rehearsals, promotional appearances and charity events. Here’s a short recap of the last couple of months:

As Melanie was contemplating her return to writing and recording new songs for her fifth solo album, after the arrival of her first baby girl earlier this year, the opportunity to audition for Blood Brothers presented itself. The show has always been a favourite of Melanie’s so the offer of the part of Mrs Johnstone was a challenge that she was delighted to accept. Melanie says: "I'm a great believer in fate and when the opportunity came along to audition for 'Blood Brothers' I couldn't resist. It's such a well-loved show and has always been one of my favourites and the Liverpool connection just adds to the appeal. It's a real honour to be asked to take on the role of Mrs Johnstone especially following in such great footsteps. I love a challenge and I think the discipline of theatre combined with the inspiration of Willy Russell's writing will provide great preparation for my fifth solo album."

Melanie's official West End debut was on October 26th. You can catch Melanie playing Mrs. Johnstone at the Phoenix Theatre eight times a week; from Monday until Saturday at 19:45, with additional matinee shows on Thursday at 15:00 and Saturday at 16:00! Tickets are available from just £20 at www.londontheatredirect.com. Melanie's run will last approximately six months. Being the leading lady of one of the longest running West End musicals, Melanie appeared on several TV and radio shows to talk about her role in Willy Russell's classic piece. Her first interview was on GMTV - http://is.gd/4mcB2 , followed by Radio 4 - http://is.gd/4vSVc and BBC Breakfast - http://is.gd/4vSg1 . A few days later she joined fellow Spice Girl Emma on Feel Good Friday - http://is.gd/4wa2s and Jamie Theakston on the Breakfast Show - http://...com/yfkl3x8, both on Heart FM.

But not only Radio and TV picked up on Melanie's West End debut. Newspaper Metro ( http://is.gd/4xjuY ) managed to ask quite a few questions in just 60 seconds, News of the World's Fabulous Magazine included not only an interview but also a brand new photo shoot ( http://is.gd/4zLQJ ) and the Guardian featured Melanie in their "Portrait of the artist" ( http://tr.im/DcE9 ). But the promotion hasn't come to an end just yet; Melanie can be seen all over London as advertisements for Blood Brothers have hit the tube stations and taxis driving through England's capital.

Despite being busy with Blood Brothers rehearsals and promotion, Melanie made time in her busy schedule for two appearances at the Royal Albert Hall. On October 25th Melanie performed "I Turn To You" and Stevie Wonders "I Wish" at the charity fundraiser "Helping the Heart of Music" in aid of the PRS for music members benevolent fund. A week later, Melanie was once again part of Hard Rock's Pinktober. Performing in aid of the Caron Keating Foundation, Melanie sung three classics: "I Turn To You", "When You're Gone" and The Arrows' "I Love Rock 'n Roll". After having raised over £13,000 with last year’s limited edition "Live at the Hard Rock Cafe" charity DVD release, Melanie was very pleased to once again support the Caron Keating Foundation.

But it’s not just the UK where things are happening at the moment: “This Time” and “Live Hits” have just been released in Brazil through independent label LAB344. “Carolyna” has been serviced to local TV and radio stations already. For more information see: www.lab344.com.br/hotsite_melaniec

As part of the NS:10 celebrations we're giving you the chance to win a prize bundle of signed exclusives and Northern Star era goodies - in exchange for a bit of your photographic creativity.

We all know and love this famous outstretched arms pose which you can see Melanie doing on the back of the Northern Star album (and at numerous gigs through the years!)

Image

We want you to recreate it in your own setting with a background of your choice, as long as you're doing the pose. It can be a breath-taking landscape behind you, something arty, something funny, or you stood in front of a famous landmark. Whatever you decide it must be 100% original and not photoshopped - because where's the fun in that?!

You have from today until Friday 16th October at 6pm GMT to email your photo to melaniecmusic@hotmail.co.uk with the subject line 'I'm A Northern Star!' Also please include your name and where the picture was taken.

The winning photographer will get a NS:10 prize bundle which includes a signed Northern Star album sampler, signed NS:10 poster, stickers, a guitar pick necklace AND a signed Northern Star shop display cube - which Melanie has kindly given us from her own collection of memorabilia!
