My birthday on the 17th was very special. There’s nothing like a day at the CBS Studios watching a taping of RUBY & THE ROCKITS, with Shaun in sight for most of the show, & Ryan giving me a B-day kiss on the cheek! I had planned to wear an “It’s My Birthday” t-shirt I got at a casino, but it was too big, so I brought it in my purse & used it to cover my shoulders. Ryan saw it during one of the breaks & asked me when my birthday was. I told him it was that night, & he was happy to autograph it. Later, he came out & gave me the kiss (with wife, Bonnie, close by!). After the taping, Patrick also signed it, to the dismay of ushers who were trying to push us out the door before I could get Shaun’s attention (I plan to try next week, by passing it through the audience co-coordinator). I was able to say hi to Caitlin & Shirley, & caught quick glimpses of Caleb & Melissa. I did find out that SHAUN wrote Lost in your own Life, although it’s strange he doesn’t get song credit on I-Tunes. He also wrote another song, You Are Where I Live, which was originally used as a love song from Dusty to Terry when Shaun guest-starred on General Hospital in the late 80’s. He’s also written all the songs used in the Rockits videos. Listen for his voice-overs in the show (he appears in the pilot & taped one for episode 5, which might be used in the final edit! This episode showed off Patrick, strength, as he did take after tape of carrying “Addie” into the kitchen with her wrapped around him in a passionate hold. A friend remarked that she wouldn’t mind taking Katie Kean’s place! He managed to hold her in the same position (for continuity), even backing up with her! I also promoted the club through my :new friend,” Roger, when he asked me to speak! I thank him for his support, as well as David’s assistant, who set up the wonderful VIP seats!

Ruby impresses her dad with how much she’s like him when she asks him to take the blame for something she did. Great sub-plot with “Patrick” becoming an OPERA fan & singing! In attendance- Jack & Cole, Tracy with Caleb, Shirley, & Bonnie Cassidy (Ryan’s newlywed wife), with David Jollife . Said hi to Ryan, who gave me details about the wedding & honeymoon, Patrick, Shirley, Tracy, Shaun, & introduced myself to Bonnie. Asked Shaun if he would ask David to sign his bio-David had already skipped out, bur Shaun said to bring the book next week & he’d make sure David signed it-then he borrowed my pen to sign an autograph! I was teasing him that I had to watch him, because in the past, he used my pens & never returned them!

SHAUN CASSIDY BIONov 19, 2008 After all the weeks of waiting, I had the feeling that Shaun didn't really WANT to do this segment. His Brothers, Ryan, Patrick & David & mother were interviewed extensively, as was David Joliffe (who reminisced on the touring), Parker Stevenson (remembering the Hardy Boys), a Rolling Stones writer, a TV analyst, & his current producing partner, David Eick. Shaun is only quoted in stock footage from the 70's. The first half hour concentrated on his Hardy Boys & recording career. Stock concert footage & stills are repeated throughout- after a while, I didn't have to take TV shots because I had them. The second half was his stage & TV career. For some strange reason, they claim he started his "dramatic career" with Breaking Away, totally omitting Like Normal People. They even mention his guest spots on Murder She Wrote & General Hospital instead of it. Then they move on to his stage career, from Mass Appeal to Bus Stop, but very few publicity photos from the shows themselves. The last part was his producing career, mentioning Roar, American Gothic & Cover Me. There was stock footage of him on the set & at the word processor, which I recognized from ET & Extra, I thought for sure that they would have interviewed him for this segment, but again, David E & his family took over. At least they included some new photos of him, his sons, Jake & Juliet, & Tracy, & mentioned a new child is due next year. It also mentioned Ruby briefly & Shirley hinted that she'd like to be involved as a "grandmother!." Shaun's marriage with Ann was touched on briefly, and, like David's relationship with Meryl, his marriage to Susan was not mentioned at all. I would have liked to have contributed some of my theater photos for that section. I would also like to see more of Shaun in current interviews. However, it is great to see Shaun's name back in the spotlight again, and with Ruby & the Rockits on the horizon, I hope this leads to more positive press.

.JPG) My parents & I checked into the historic Sportsman's Lodge to freshen up. I chose a turquoise pair of slacks, with a turquoise & brown splash t-shirt & blue sweater, in case we managed to get on camera, and my parents were equally dressed up. We left at 2:30 for the studio, because I wanted to get there as the parking lot opened, to assure a good parking space & getting at the front of the line. The plan worked, because we were the first ones let into the studio, although we were standing in line about an hour before we were let in. The guard let us down Gilligan's Island Way to the studio. I parked my walker at the foot of 3 steps, and we were split up. I was seated on the right aisle in the first row, while my parents were seated further in one row up. Our section was in front of a casino lounge set, and they placed the most appropriately members of the audience there, in case the cameras caught us while shooting the extras. From where I was sitting, I had a good vantage point of seeing the various members of the family. I saw Beau, & asked him to give his dad & uncles the newsletters I hand-carried to the studio. I also gave a copy to Jake, who was there to support his father. I said hi to Melissa, who was there with sons Cole (sporting an orange cast on his arm from a football accident) & Jack, & introduced myself to Tracey. I had heard rumors that she was pregnant, & now can officially confirm that she is. Ryan, wearing a blue suit, was walking around the set, making sure everything was in order, but came over to warmly clasp my hands. I was the first to spot Shirley as she came up the steps & she waved hi as she waited to be seated. Once spotted, she was given a standing ovation. I also saw Sue & friend David Jolliffe, & caught brief glimpses of Shaun as he roamed the set, in a grey suit jacket over a Rockits t-shirt. Most of the family & guests were seated in front of either the living room or kitchen sets at the far left, where the majority of the action was filmed. We were asked by the comic/MC, who kept us entertained between set-ups, to try to respond to the live action on the set, but it was easier to watch the monitors, as we could see David & Patrick's expressions better. The poor MC would just be answering a question or starting an audience participation skit, when the air-horn would blow & quiet would be called. During one of the breaks, I was able to promote Friends of the Cassidys. When Cat Ortiz stood to talk about her fan club, which disbanded 10 years ago, I waved an extra copy of mine & said I was the CURRENT one! In front of the assembled family, I mentioned how they supported us & how all the current newsletters & web-sites worked together. At the end of the taping, I received a Rockits t-shirt like Shaun was wearing. During a break, I think I love you was played, and David, who was on the set at the time, sang along. Given equal time, That's Rock & Roll was also played & Shaun acted like he didn't know who was singing, saying he "didn't do that any more." The characters of "David" & "Patrick" where written perfectly to their personalities, from David's egotistical character, who was still cashing in on his 80's Rockits persona, complete with Elvis-like karate kick, to Patrick's role of a SUV dealership owner who claims to be embarrassed that his marketing dept is cashing in on his Rockits fame. Patrick's wife is also a former member of the group, and their oldest son has musical aspirations with a bland Internet music video, and the youngest son has his own brand of creativity. Into this mix enters Ruby, "David's" unacknowledged daughter, who left her grandparents after realizing they never remembered she lived with him. The 30-min pilot covers the first day of Ruby's entrance into the family. The 5 scenes took 5 hours to film (even with some scenes previously taped), with re-takes, set ups, and changing lines around. One of David's lines was twisted around, & each tongue-twister was even funnier than the last. Some takes used different versions of the same line (it will be fun to see which lines they use). At the end of the taping, David gave a touching speech, saying that if it weren't for his brothers, he wouldn't be there & acknowledging step-father Elliott Silverstein who was in the audience. Patrick mentioned their choreographer, Melissa (yes, there is "dancing"), & his family friend Howard Borris. Shaun talked about working with his brothers & thanked Shirley. No cameras were allowed, but I hope to work with Disney publicity to get photos for the newsletter (I also hope that some of the entertainment magazines covered this).

KATIE GOES "LIVE" On Sept. 19, "Live," will debut in England. This is IMDB.com description: "In a world where reality and entertainment are continuously colliding, Academy Award winning documentary filmmaker Bill Guttentag's feature debut Live! follows ABN network president Katy Courbet (Eva Mendes) and up-and-coming documentary filmmaker Rex (David Krumholtz) as inspiration strikes to create the most daring reality program ever. The show is Russian Roulette, network style, with contestants competing for 5 million dollars on-air, complete with loaded guns. As seen through the lens of a documentary film crew, Live! examines the competitive and often gut-wrenching world of television production, where everyone from the crew to the contestants to the network brass becomes engulfed in a ratings battle to the top-a battle where questions of morality, ethics and sheer will lead to a darkly humorous and unforgettable outcome. Katie plays one of the contestants, an aspiring actress named Jewel. Other known actors in the cast are Andre Braugher, Paul Michael Glaser, Charlotte Ross, and Mark Valley. There is no word on a US release date.

Patrick's show was so cute. He opened with There's no business like show business"-- then Shirley cuts in with a song. He looks around- tries again-- David cuts in with I think I Love You. One more time-- Shaun- with Hey Deanie! He looks to his pianist & mouths "this is My Show" Then Jack cuts in! First song "My Fortune is my Face" (he looks just like Jack-- right profile, left profile.) he makes jokes about one of his teeth is almost paid for, then worries about Jack & Cole's teeth. Shows Jack's Sardi's caricature--says that Shirley, David & Shaun are up there, & they even have room for him-- he said Jack's autograph was I'm the best looking star here-- Pat's is "I'm even better looking!" Sings Danny Boy-Standing O!
Show's Shirley's photo (head-shot in the black sparkly dress) sings Til there was You- cuts in with his mother's story about kicking Robert P-- ends up singing "Til There was ME!!" Talk about Melissa- sings a sexy rhumba rhythm song about her to a head-shot of her.
Sings The Song that Goes like this (from Spamalot) with his accompanist (another This is MY SHOW moment ) & shoots him out of frustration.
Portrait of 4 brothers- he introduces them in order of size & R-L- shortest to tallest David, Shaun, Ryan & him (but he says that they say HE looks the oldest.) No mention of being adopted-- takes a head-mask of David on a stick & sings "I'd be nothing without you" with him (David's lines either sung with the mask over his face or held down waist height) Shows school pics of Jack & Cole- Jack looks exactly like Pat at that age! Tells how they went on tour with him in Joseph & sings a sweet lullaby for them. Other highlights-I am what I am (from La Cage Aux Folles) saying yes he is a straight Broadway actor! He does football & basketball motions during the song. He also sang Being Alive from Company. Ended the show with There's No Business Like Show business. He has such a great sense of humor on stage. After the show, he came out and chatted with audience members. He had signed 4 DVDS of Longtime Companion to auction for Jack's Walk of Fame Star, and posed for a photo with me (actually a few- Dad got great shots of Patrick, but I was just cut off!)

Shirley Jones hears the 'Music' Original star set for revival
Shirley Jones returns to the fictional world of River City, Iowa, for a staged concert version of "The Music Man," produced as a one-week gig by Hartford's (CT) Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts April 22-27.
The production, helmed by Philip William McKinley ("The Boy From Oz"), will star Patrick Cassidy, Jones' son, as Harold Hill, and feature members of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra onstage. Bushnell exec director David Fay estimates the production cost at more than $300,000.
Jones starred in the film version of "The Music Man" in 1962, playing Marian. For the Hartford show, the 73-year-old thesp will play Marian's mother.
