Wow, it's been a while. Ok, I'm writing this to inform anyone who's interested that I have moved my blog to my VIRB page (virb.com/travisthompson) and I'll be writing a lot more about music. I'll write about music I buy, shows I go to, and any recording I do in addition to the normal ones (however infrequent) about shows I play.

Hope you can read along.

All right, blog number two... Tonight my brother Chase and I played a show at a coffee shop in San Luis Obispo called The Nautical Bean... It was great... We played a few of my songs and a bunch of covers, mostly on guitar, however the mandolin, didjeridoo, shaker, taborine and even the squeeze box made appearances... The Set list was as follows:

1. Novelty (The Push Game)
2. What You Wish For (Guster)
3. Under Your Umbrella
4. Regret and Rationale
5. Blizzard of '77 (Nada Surf)
6. Collide (Howie Day)
7. I Will Follow You Into The Dark (Death Cab for Cutie)
8. Atlantic (Thrice)
9...Recycled Air (The Postal Service)
10. When In Rome (Nickel Creek)

Break

11. Dij Intro
12. To Let (Xavier Rudd)
13. Scar (Missy Higgins)
14. Weather With You (Crowded House)
15. How Could I Say
16. Tip Of My Tongue
17. La Bamba (Richy Vallens)
18. Dust In The Wind (Kansas)
19. Heart and Soul (You know, that song everybody plays on the piano)
20. Rhythm of You
21. The Most Beautfull.

To Let, Scar and Weather With You was the "Australian Music Educational Section" and La Bamba, Dust in the Wind..and Heart and Soul were the squeeze box section.

It was pretty awesome. Even though we made plenty of mistakes we had a blast and a bunch of people came... Even people I diddn't know stuck around for a while... Thanks to all who came, hope to see you next time.

So last night I played a bit of a last minute show at the Cal Poly Craft Center during the Throwfest.  If  you don't know what the throwfest is, it's a 24 hour free clay throwing event (throwing clay means using a potters wheel... not actually throwing it).

Its an awesome time and my friend Orin was in charge of it and he asked me to play for a little while.  There were some other bands that played also, The Argonaughts who were cool, but  every song sounded like either AC/DC or Led Zeppelin covers... which isn't all that bad of a thing... The other band I saw play was the Cal Poly Jaz band at 3am... it was crazy they were amazing.

Anyway, I didn't play alone, my friend Matt Ishler employed his amazing viola skills and gave me some string accompanyment.  It was fun, we practiced for about an hour or two that day and then got up and played the following songs:

1. Novelty (The Push Game)
2. How Could I Say
3. Blizzard of 77 (Nada Surf)
4. Collide (Howie Day)
5. "Love" (a song I had finished writing the day before!)
6. Tip of My Tongue
7. Dij Intro
8. To Let (Xavier Rudd)
9. Demons (Guster)

We saved Demons for last because Matt felt that was his strongest song and we practiced it a lot... my favorite was probably Novelty because after playing it live a few times before, having the viola was quite a change and I thought it sounded great.

So other than a few technical difficulties and the fact that nobody was paying attention (which I was expecting... and it wasn't a big deal) it was really fun.  I didn't leave the throwfest until a little after 4 am... I'm tired.

Anway, I hope to play one more show before the end of the school year so check the site every now and then.

Last night Peter Cunningham and I played a show at Hunters Landing Coffee in Nipomo Ca. It was pretty fun. We didn't practice much but some songs sounded ok. Others, not as ok... Oh well, it was fun. Highlights were P-dub joining us for Row that Boat-Ah, Peter drinking water and taking his sweater off (no, not at the same time) and a few songs actually sounding--shall I say...good? We played: 1. Jam in Bm 2. Novelty (The Pushgame) 3. Demons (Guster) 4. How Could I Say 5. Row that Boat-Ah (Adaptation of row row row your boat) 6. Under Your Umbrella 7. Drive (incubus) [break] 8. The Stone (Dave Matthews Band) 9. Tears in Heaven (Eric Clapton) 10. Regret and Rationale 11. A Lack of Color (Death Cab for Cutie) 12. Love Song for a savior (Jars of Clay) 13. Shifting Sand (Caedmon's Call) 14. Tip of my Tongue Thanks to all those who came. Hope to see you again soon!
