Meet Crash Gladys. She's an adorable 4 month old deaf border collie, bred by a backyard breeder in Butte, Montana. I orginally heard about her in the Dogster group. Deaf but not Dumb. A lady in Maine was going to adopt her, but wasn't able to and was very concerned about the conditions Crash was living in. Since Crash was in Butte, I told her I'd see if I couldn't find her a home. I posted a message on the Deaf Dogs List, hoping that someone would be interested in adopting her. That night, I heard from a really nice woman, Jan, who was interested in adopting her. Jan then contacted the "breeder" and they agreed, Jan would adopt Crash. Now, Jan lives outside of Chicago and Crash had to find a way to get there. I offered to take her with us when we head to the east coast at the end of December, but Jan couldn't wait that long. Jan looked into setting up a transport, but discovered that wasn't going to work either. So Jan decided to have Crash flown from Montana to Chicago, but Crash had to a) get a health certificate from a vet and b) get to the airport. I, of course, agreed to get Crash to the airport at the appointed day and time. Getting the health certificate proved slightly more difficult. Crash's "breeder" doesn't drive and she doesn't live in town, so getting her to the vet was an ordeal. When she got to the vet's, she wasn't healthy enough to fly. Poor Crash was malnourished, dehydrated and had worms. She would have to stay at the vet until she was well enough to fly home. A few days later, Jan called. Crash would be well enough to go home in 2 days-the day after Thanksgiving. Could I pick her up that day and put her on a flight out of Bozeman Saturday morning? Of course I could! On that cold, dark Friday morning, Matt and I both woke up early to drive to Butte. Two "hills", a cup of coffee and a wrong turn later, we arrived in Butte, excited, but anxious to finally meet this puppy. At first. she was a little scared of us, but quickly warmed up to us, giving us kisses. On the way home, she had fun exploring the car. At home, she started by giving all of our dogs play bows, and tried to run around with them in the yard. Inside, she was a holy terror, racing all over the place, climbing on the coffee table, the couch, and the counter, and falling off of the couch onto Doc. Oh, and did I mention that she wasn't housebroken in the least? But we adored her anyways (and Matt is the one who named her Crash). That night, we prepared her crate for her big trip. We lined her crate with blankets to keep her warm, and acting on the advice of another rescuer who has flown numerous dogs, we froze some water and a stuffed Kong for her. The next morning, we woke up early again (I know, 2 days in a row. That's unheard of for me and Matt!) to get Crash to the airport by 7:30. Even though she'd only been with us for a day, it was hard to leave her. We already loved her and were worried about her. What if something happened to her, or she got lost in transit? And even more importantly, what if Jan thought she was too much of a handful, or wasn't who I thought she was. I kissed her goodbye with tears in my eyes, hoping that everything would work out for her. That day seemed like one of the longest days of my life, waiting for word from Jan that she had arrived safely. When I hadn't heard from Jan by 4:30 (Crash was supposed to arrive at 2:45), I gave in to my anxiousness and called Jan. Crash had been delayed and she had just arrived. Jan sounded so happy on the phone, which once again, brought tears to my eyes. I was still worried that Jan had no idea what she was getting herself into, but things were off to a good start.
A few days I heard from Jan. Crash is fitting into her new home very nicely. One dog mothers her, while another one is her wrestling partner. She is gaining weight and her coat is coming in much thicker, and she is learning about housetraining. She is loved and adored, and her new family is very greatful to have her. If time permits, we have been invited to come visit Crash in Chicago on our way home in January.

A little over a month ago, Matt and I were sitting on our couch, watching TV, when Matt says, "Hey, there's a cat" I thought he meant our cat, but he said no, that it was a little calico cat. We got up to investigate, and sure enough, there was a little calico kitten in our house. The poor little thing was tiny, the tips of her whiskers had been burned, and she smelled bad. She was also extremely hungry. But she was super sweet, and curled up and purred in Matt's arms. We were in love. Matt didn't want to give her up, but I did check the newspaper to see if anyone had lost a calico kitten. No one was looking for her, so she is staying here with us.

As we were driving home from our wedding, we saw several cars pulled off on the side of the road, with their lights and blinkers on. As we drove by, we asked what happened. A woman pointed to a small dog sitting on the road and said a car in front of her had just hit the dog and didn't stop. Along with a few other people, she was trying to get the dog off the road. Being animal lovers, we of course pulled over. Matt jumped out and grabbed a blanket (a new one, which we had just been given) and went to go help. The dog was growling and would not let anyone close to it. Matt used calming signals on the dog, then scooped him up in the blanket. The dog was obviously injured and didn't appear to be doing very well. He didn't have any tags on, but he looked well cared for-well fed and he had a summer hair cut. One of the bystanders called her vet to see about bringing the dog in. The vet said that someone would have to agree to pay for the treatment before they would see the dog. When the woman told the assembled crowd that, everyone took 2 steps back. Except my baby. He looked around and when he saw that no one else was willing to chip in, he said he would pay for it. There was no way he was going to let that little dog suffer because no one would pay to take care of him. Because we already had our 3 dogs with us and weren't familiar with where this vet was, we followed the woman to the vet and dropped the dog off, while Matt dropped off his credit card number and we all went home for the night, knowing that we had done all we could for this little dog.
The next day (Sunday), we called the vet. The dog had survived the night and x-rays showed a broken leg and a broken pelvis and they were trying to keep him comfortable.
On Monday, I called the vet again to check on the dog and received wonderful news-the dog's owner had found him at that vet's and was meeting with the vet at that very moment to discuss treatment options!!! I almost cried I was so happy that the little dog had been reunited with his owner.

OPENING PRAYER
As we lift into the loving That joins us together as one, Let us surround Alison and Matt With our love, our prayers, And our best wishes for them On this, their wedding day, And throughout their journey together as Husband and wife.
GATHERING WORDS
For those of us blessed by a true partnership of love, We feel safe in the presence of our loved one. There is no need to hide any part of ourselves For fear of being judged or rejected. We can just be together from moment to moment, Believing that those moments Will thread together into eternity.
There is a gentleness to the presence of love That softens lifes rough edges. It makes us somehow braver To go forth into the world Knowing that the shelter of someones love Awaits us at days end.
We are most vulnerable when we love. We place our trust in another To honor us and to care for us, To treasure us and to receive our love.
In love, we trust that the other will provide a safe haven In which we can experience and share The fullness of our being with one another. And in so doing, We trust that our lives will be far richer Than had we chosen separate journeys through this world.
We trust that our love will fill us full And make us wiser and more beautiful beings. We find that our union graces our lives with balance, A sweetness beyond any we have ever tasted, And a treasure beyond any measure of value We have ever known.
MUSICAL INTERLUDE
Montana Wedding Song, written by Chris Kennedy and performed by Chris and Ian Kennedy and James Nichols
MARRIAGE ADDRESS
Marriage is the essence of human relationships. It challenges us to be of one accord Without abandoning the truth of our individuality. It challenges us not to lose ourselves in one another, But rather to walk side by side Heading in the same direction
As with all relationships, Marriage is an endless presentation of choices About how we want to be with one another. Each choice results either in more unity Or more separation. Choose into that unity, Alison and Matt, Every chance you get.
Sacrifice your judgments, expectations, And any other ways That you have learned to separate yourselves From each other.
Share the gifts of your friendship, humor, Vulnerability, sensitivity, and kindness. Be sure to find ways each day To protect, affirm, and support each other, And to treasure the balance and shared values That you have found with each other.
Enjoy the intertwining Of your independence with your intimacy. I wish you the courage To keep your loving hearts open to each other For the rest of your lives.
WATER CEREMONY
Many of us have been blessed to notice That when we share A true and abiding love with a partner, Even plain water tastes sweet.
Alison and Matt, Share this clear water now As a symbol of the sweet and precious love you share.
As you do so, Remember that just as you are now partaking Of the sweetness and purity Of this fresh and clean water, You have already been blessed To partake of the brilliance and magnificence Of the love you share.
By devoting yourselves To cherishing and nurturing this love, May your marriage grow sweeter With each passing year.

Ok, so here's the deal. I post 6 weird things/habits/stories about myself then pick 6 people (and list them at the end of this post) who are supposed to post 6 weird things/habits/stories about themselves. You're also supposed to tag them in their comments section and tell them to read your blog. You get the idea.
1. When I was a kid, I used to like to put Elmer's glue on my hand, let it dry, and then peel it off.
2. Jeff Foxworthy would feel right at home at my house and could probably come up with a few new jokes based on my house and yard. Matt and I also own 4 cars that are running, licensed, insured, etc. as well as many more that aren't and the newest vehicle is a 1991. Fortunately, we live in Below-grade surrounded by lots of rednecks and they don't care what our house and yard look like. Even weirder, I don't mind it as much as I thought I would.
3. I like my dogs and my cat better than most people, and most of the time would rather hang out with them than people.
4. I still like to play with toys and play on playground equipment. The place where we're getting married has a swing set and an in-ground trampoline. Since I know there is no way in hell I'm going to stay off the trampoline, I had to find a wedding dress that I could jump on the trampoline in.
5. I donated my eggs to my aunt and uncle, and now have a cousin who is genetically my son. He's 6 and is super cute. He's also relatively normal, which gives me hope that I could actually have normal children.
6. I'm having trouble coming up with a final one, so this is kind of lame, but I've never broken a bone, or been to the hospital emergency room.
Since Matt is bugging me to go to bed, I tag Chris, Erica and Hayley. Good night!
