GREEN TIPS YOU CAN USE IN YOUR EVERY DAY LIFE!!!!

AT HOME
1. Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) - last up to 10 times longer and use only a fraction of the energy, saving you money over their lifespan.

2. Plant trees around your house - you can reduce home cooling costs by as much as 50% and grow yourself a little shade.

3. Try solar energy - If just 1 million homes switched entirely to solar power, we’d cut yearly CO2 emissions by 7 million tons.

4. Refill water bottles instead of buying new ones every time.

5. Recycle everything you can. Try out creative ways of reusing everyday items, such as aluminum cans to store loose change.

6. Move your thermostat down 2° in winter and up 2° in summer.

7. Consider bamboo the next time you’re landscaping - it stores more CO2 and generates 35% more oxygen than an equivalent stand of trees.

8. Don’t leave the tap running.

9. If you must run water (while waiting for it to get hot), put a bucket under the faucet and use the water to water your plants.

10. Turn off lights and use natural sunlight from windows instead.

11. Wear a sweater or put extra blankets on the bed instead of turning up the heater.

12. Defrost old fridges and freezers regularly.

13. Close vents in rooms not being regularly used.

14. Get double glazed windows.

15. Use more insulation.

16. Get a low flow showerhead and take shorter showers.

17. Put yard trimmings and food waste into a compost bin to use as fertilizer.

18. Use power strips to easily turn off many electronics when not in use.

19. Unplug phone chargers, curling irons, and other electronics when not being used; they still use up energy when plugged in, even if turned off.

20. Invest in a water filter instead of buying water bottles.

21.
Recycle dead batteries and old cell phones:
http://www. rbrc. org/call2recycle/dropoff/index. php
22. Use rechargeable batteries instead of the normal ones.

23. If you must use one time use cups, avoid Styrofoam – it takes about 2,000 years to decompose.

24. Put a barrel outside to collect rainwater for watering plants and gardens.

25. Turn off your cell phone at night.

26. Buy reusable cloth diapers for babies.

27. Open the windows instead of using air conditioning.

28. Always cut the plastic rings from six packs before throwing away.

29. Refill ink cartridges.

30.
Donate old stuff, give it to Goodwill or Salvation Army, or use
www. freecycle. org instead of throwing it away.

31. Try to use a minimal amount of napkins.

32. Shave by hand instead of wasting energy with an electric razor.

33. Use a laptop instead of a desktop computer.

34. Put a bottle in your toilet’s tank to save gallons of water everyday. Drop a little sand or some pebbles into a bottle, fill it with water, and put it in the tank of your toilet, just make sure not to disturb the toilet’s working parts.

CLEANING
1. Wash your clothes in cold water – it will save up to $400 a year in bills.

2. Dry laundry on a clothesline instead or using a dryer if you can.

3. Use cloth napkins and towels instead of paper.

4. Use environmentally friendly cleaning products, such as Green Works by Clorox.

5. Get a vacuum with a canister to empty instead of bags.

6. Use washable dishes instead of throw away paper plates, cups and utensils.

7. Don’t start the washing machine or dishwater until totally full.

8. Clean up your trash when going to events such as sports games or concerts instead of littering.

9. Get a front loading washing machine.

10. Use vinegar to clean windows.

ON THE JOB
1. Put your computer to sleep - they use up to 70% less electricity when you put them to sleep instead of using a screensaver.

2. Print and copy on both sides of the page before taking it to the recycling bin - paper represents more than 70% of office waste.

3. Look for a green job - recycling is already a $50 billion a year industry with solar power expected to exceed that in the next 10.

4. Get motion sensor lighting.

5. Shut down your office computers overnight.

6. See if bathroom lights could be shut off when no one is in there.

7. Hold meetings via video conference instead of flying for meetings in person.

8. Talk to your managers/bosses about the company’s energy consumption and ways to improve.

9. Get recycling bins in the office.

10. Store your info and documents on your computer. There is no need to print everything out. If you’re worried about losing the info should anything happen to your computer, just backup your files on a disc.

SHOPPING
1. Eat less meat.

2. Reuse plastic bags or bring your own. Wal-Mart and Meijer are currently selling reusable shopping totes for only a dollar a piece.

3. Try to avoid excess packaging.

4. Support products made out of recycled materials.

5. Buy digital music online instead of CD’s that waste packaging and energy in the shipping processes.

6. Buy a portable solar charger to charge your electronics and battery operated products.

7. Buy carbon offsets or green tags.

8. Buy locally.

9. Choose energy star appliances.

10. Go to farmers markets.

11. Use hand dryers instead of paper towels at public restrooms.

12. Buy Fair Trade products to support sustainable farming.

13. Buy your insurance from eco conscientious companies, such as ibuyeco or esurance.

14. Buy organic clothing instead when you can.

TRANSPORTATION
1. Buy a hybrid or fuel-efficient car.

2. Carpool.

3. Ride a bike, skateboard, or walk instead of driving whenever you get the chance.

4. Use public transit, like buses, railroads, or subways instead of driving individually.

5. Don’t leave your car on idle.

6. Keep your tires properly inflated.

7. Don’t store too much stuff in your car, the unnecessary weight takes more gas to pull.

8. Remove luggage racks when not in use, they lower aerodynamics.

9. Plan your routes ahead of time to avoid needless driving around.

10. Keep windows closed when on highways, they can reduce mileage when at high speeds.

COMMUNITY
1. Open up to friends and family about your environmental concerns.

2. Encourage your city to install LED traffic lights - they consume 80% less energy and can save a large city millions of dollars a year.

3. Get involved with environmental groups in your area.

4. Petition and write to your government representatives.

5. Organize an Earth Day event to raise awareness.

6. Send out Christmas greetings and pictures via e-cards and email instead.

7. Take environmental issues into consideration when voting for political candidates.

Thanks for taking the time to check all this out! Now make it a point to introduce some of these suggestions into your everyday life. And don’t stop there... There is so much information and so much you can do - check it out for yourself, then spread it around!

I knew there was a movie that I was leaving out of my last blog - The Nines - Extremely interesting, thought provoking, and original.  It's been a couple weeks since I've seen it and I think I am just now starting to understand what it's about.

The Nines :http://lookforthenines.com/

I add another movie that I saw tonight - Death at a Funeral - I love British humor, but I think everyone will enjoy this comedy. It was strange for me to see Mr. Darcy's Mathew MacFadyen in something other than 18th century atire, but you will be rolling on the floor laughing with what this film had to offer.

Wow, I havn't written a blog in almost a year.

I have decided there are just too many people out there that don't know what great movies are out.  I have a plan to remedy this by posting movies on my page I think everyone should see.   I have a friend who said to me the other day that she hadn't heard of any of the movies that I was about to go see that day...this is a real shame because the three movies I saw were amazing.  She also said she really listened to my recommendations when I told her of good movies to see because she always ended up really liking them.  I hope this is the case with all my readers.  Now that I have discovered the video section of myspace, I plan to add trailers on my page so you don't just read about the movies I am talking about, but it's just as simple to see for yourself.  Now, there have already been a few trailers that I wish I could post that are not available so for those I will just list the names.  For those I will provide official website in case you are interested.  That way you will be able to see the trailers and read the synopsis. What the hell, I'll include all the websites.  If you do see any of the movies I have recommended - I would love to hear your opinions (good or bad)

If you are a Jane Austen fan such as myself you will notice there are 2 movies out right now that you might like.  One about her life (Becoming Jane) and another (The Jane Austen Book Club) a romantic comedy about a group of friends who form a book club where they read only Jane and apply her principles to their every day life.

Dedication and December boys is for those of you I think who appreciate the independent film.

Across the Universe is a Beetles lover must.

The Assassination of Jesse James and Into the Wild for the ones who don't mind sitting in an almost 3 hour long movie.  Into the Wild is simply captivating.  Jesse James is slow moving through out, but good none the less.  Both based on real life events!

Recent movies I have seen in the theater:

Websites:

Dedication : http://www.dedicationmovie.net/

Becoming Jane : http://becomingjane-themovie.com/

The Jane Austen Book Club: http://www.sonyclassics.com/thejaneaustenbookclub/

December Boys: Sorry :( no website - but the trailer is on my page)

Current mood:uneasy
Once upon a time, in the magical, far off land of Los Angles, California there was a young girl obsessed with movies.  On the 11th day of January, in the year of our lord 2007, a movie premiered in the theatrical buildings of this glorious city.  She would express her desire to go see this movie to her piers and she would read reviews in her movie magazines.  She was disapointed at the lack of enthusiasm for the movie but she would not be discouraged.  She gathered up a few friends (insert names Joe, Scott, and Chris) and set off on the independent-minded journey to view it for herself.  As she got out her money, asked for the ticket, gave the name of the movie and time, the evil ticket seller responds, "That movie is really boring"  The yoiung girl did not flinch, and cooly responded, "Well, I still want to see the movie."  She was handed her ticket and preceeded into the theater, telling her friends the story on the way in.  They sit, watch the previews and the movie begins.                2 HOURS LATER :  The four walk out of the theater and the young girl says, "I want to go tell that ticket seller I'm glad I didn't follw her BAD advice."
THE MORAL OF THE STORY:  Never listen to what others tell you accept for this...GO SEE THE MOVIE ALPHA DOG!!!!!

This movie is based on true events which makes the impact even more powerful.  Justin Timberlake (other than the fact that he's extremely hot) did an amazing job in this movie, as well as Ben Foster, who studied for his part with real life meth addicts.  Both of these actors captivate you with their amazing portrayals of this tragic true story, leaving the audiences asking, how could a crime with so many witnesses go so far?

So I am starting something new... Movie of the Moment.

For anyone who even slightly knows me, they know I have an obsession with movies.  I have a collection of about 700 DVD's and have watched them all multiple times. I have this tendency to pick a movie and be completely stuck on it for like a week...that being practically the only movie I watch.  I want to share these movies with you as I become addicted so that you might enjoy them too...because if you are around me at that time...I will surly be talking about it.  Now I watch a little bit of everything so I want to warm you....you really never know what I am going to be suggesting next.  Although I do have some patterns ... one being movies with the same actors in them..  Now there are instances when I watch more than one at a time so you will have the added bonus of multuple suggestions.  Aren't you excited!  Ok, here we go!

MOVIE OF THE MOMENT

"Tristan & Isolde"  starring James Franco
Ladies ... I just have one word when I am describing James Franco - BODY

This leads  me to a second movie (which sometimes happens as explained above) which is:

"Annapolis"  also starring James Franco
and again ladies ... one word BODY

I hope you will check out these movies and I look forward to hearing what you have to say about them!
