Hi there- after months of keeping our heads down, working on the new album with my band The Sweet Remains (formerly known as RGB) and writing a bunch of new songs, we're finally getting back on the road. We're so excited for people to hear our new record- Laurel & Sunset- and we'll be hitting the road a couple of weeks at a time for the next few months. Before we officially release the record, we're printing a small number for our shows this fall, so we hope to see you at these venues!!

For those of you who don't know, The Sweet Remains is a trio and collaboration between me, Greg Naughton and Brian Chartrand. Thanks for all the support and excitement about the new record, and we can't wait to share the new songs with everyone!

All the best, Rich

Thanks for all the great messages about hearing 'Turn Off My Heart' on MTV's Real World! It's been such an amazing response!

I've also been getting a lot of messages asking where to get the music. Here's a link to my iTunes page! Also, I've posted the chords & lyrics to all of my albums on my blog on this page, so check that out as well!

Thanks for all the support!! As always, checkout my new band, RGB (myspace.com/RGBtrio). We're finishing up work on our first album together and hitting the road this fall.

All the best, Rich

Current mood:  excited
Just a quick update from Los Angeles. Happy New Year everyone! 2008 is looking like it'll be a big year. My wife and I are expecting a baby boy in the spring!! And I'm really excited about my new band, RGB (me, Greg Naughton and Brian Chartrand). We've just started making a record, and I've posted a rough mix of one of the new ones- a song called Moving In Slow Motion. Greg and Brian are two of my favorite songwriters, and it's been a blast making music with them. We're recording with my good friend Andy Zulla (producer on Miles From Anywhere and All These Roads). The songs are sounding really good, and I can't wait for people to hear them. Stay tuned for updates about touring and this new release. Thanks for the support and for spreading the music around!!! All the best, Rich (Los Angeles, Wednesday, Jan 16th, 2008)

Here are the lyrics & chords for the new tune:

Chords & Lyrics to my second album- MILES FROM ANYWHERE
Hi all- thanks again for all the support. I got a really positive response to my post with all the chords and lyrics for All These Roads, so I've added chords and lyrics for my first album (Night Opens) in an earlier post, and now here they are for my second record (Miles From Anywhere).

It's a record I made after I signed to Geffen Records. It was an exciting time for me, and I had the pleasure of putting together a great band for the recordings. The musicians are, for the most part: Jeff Symonds (bass), Adam Weissman (drums), Kevin Barry (guitars), Joe Bonadio (percussion & additional drums). Produced by Andy Zulla, with three tracks co-produced by Jack Gauthier, most of the album's recording was done at the Carriage House, a studio in Greenwich, CT, with some basic tracking done at good ol' Lakewest in Rhode Island. It was a dream to make this record, and I hope you can enjoy it!

All the best, and thanks for everything, Rich

Fly Me Home

Capo 1st (song is Eb)
Intro
D-G x 2

D
I closed the door
G D G
'cause I don't wanna see you walk away
D G
Your stars are fixed like stones
D G
In your moonlit driveway

D G
Everytime I touch I break down
D G
I wanna break down one more time
D
But please remember
G
I was hard to find

Bm A
Like stones or flesh to bones
G D
Barbs to a high wire fence
Bm A
Long nights of last rites
G G
And we plead our innocence

D G D G
Fly me home, fly me home

The grey unquiet ocean is never still
Like the open throat of a cresting wave that's free will
I don't want it if you don't want it –that's fine
Sweet angel I wanna make you mine

Like stones or flesh to bones
Barbs to a high wire fence
Long nights of last rites
And we plead our innocence

Fly me home, fly me home

I don't know anybody who knows my number
I don't know anybody who knows my name
I don't know anybody who knows my number
I don't know anybody who knows my name

Like stones or flesh to bones
Barbs to a high wire fence
Long nights of last rites
And we plead our innocence

Fly me home, fly me home

This spell that you've got me under
Waiting for blossom baby but I don't know why
Everynight I'm here at the witching hour

I know it seems like I'm losing my mind over you

Don't you see if this is crazy
I definitely wanna be losing my senses
You're the Queen B, baby,

And pour my heart for you and be sure that you drank it

It's Been So Long

E Cm
Come on let me set your lips on fire

I know 'em like the back of my hand
E Cm
Come on let me set your lips on fire
D E
I know 'em like the back of my hand

G Cm
Oh it's been so long
A E
I know you know your way back home
G Cm
Oh it's been so long
A B B
I know you know your way back home, so come home

You can take that old jazz record from the top shelf
We're dancing in candlelight
All day I've been fixin' to say
I'll be loving you by and by

You can wear your hair long
Maybe we can stay on top of the things to do
Oh lord it can never get old
Everytime that I come with you

Oh it's been so long
I know you know your way back home
Oh it's been so long
I know you know your way back home, so come home

Oh it's been so long
I know you know your way back home
Oh it's been so long
I know you know your way back home, so come home

Spinning

D-G until noted…

I skirt the edges of your shadows
Loose lines of figures and shapes
It's my intention to slip inside them
Where no light escapes

In a room stripped bare
It's just a symphony of two hearts beating
I slip down slow and silent as a tide retreating

G
'Cause when you know
G D-G D-G
I'd like to think you just know
G D-G D-G
It's the cold hard truth we're spinning

D G C C/B D
Oh, if it's alright I'm gonna stay right here with you…

She said 'hey, look baby! The sun is nearly halfway up the wall!'
Maybe if we sleep all day
We won't have to see the light at all

'Cause when you know
I'd like to think you just know
It's the cold hard truth we're spinning

Oh, if it's alright I'm gonna stay right here with you…

I can see the chaos in your precision
In the urge to take flight
You can't beat loneliness into submission
With the words I'm alright
Our lives are moving in different speeds, I know
Maybe we're fireflies in separate rooms
And we're spinning out of control

Oh, if it's alright I'm gonna stay right here with you…

Shake your foundations deep deep deep…

Prospect Street

Fm-E-A

Fm E A
There's a line drawn through this town
Fm E A
It's laid out in dotted white
Fm E A
Where it goes, no consequence
Fm E A
'Cause you ain't going there tonight

Fm E A
All the hatches been batonned down
Fm E A
From the rain and the sleet
Fm E A
It's a cold lonely avenue
Fm E A
Here on prospect street

D Cm Bm A
Hold on just a little while longer baby
D E A
You've got nothing to show
D Cm Bm A
It's like she says you're lying in pieces
Fm E A
And you're the last one to know

So much for your debutantes
Falling down at your feet
Things could change but I bet they won't
Here on prospect street

Hold on just a little while longer baby
You've got nothing to show
It's like she says you're lying in pieces
And you're the last one to know
It's like she says you're lying in pieces
And you're the last one to know

Raised Up Again

Gm-Fm-E

Gm Fm E
Pull your windows shades down tight
Gm Fm E
I don't wanna see your willow trees weeping
Gm Fm E
Shadows recede into halflight
B
And you're still sleeping

Gm Fm E
All the girls that I've known
Gm Fm E
They're bright like a Catherine wheel but burn fast
Gm Fm E
Fading colors that bleed into others
B
and get flown at half mast

Gm Fm E
Until it's raised up again
Gm Fm E
Until it's raised up again
Gm Fm E
Until your flag of love is flying in the wind
Gm Fm E
Until it's raised up again

My bed is an ocean
Yes I feel my bed is an open sea
The reason I sing is keeping this thing in motion
Towards your company

Until it's raised up again
Until it's raised up again
Until your flag of love is flying in the wind
Until it's raised up again

A
I wanna know where did you go
E
Sweet love of mine

Don't on the street where you are sweet
E
Sweet love of mine

Sweet love, sweet love of mine

Until it's raised up again
Until it's raised up again
Until your flag of love is flying in the wind
Until it's raised up again

From Nothing

I watched a street light

Flicker to cold white
E B
I've had setback in talking to you

A Amaj7 B
I know I won't sleep much tonight
A Amaj7 B
There's too many confessions to write
A Amaj7 B
I'm holding myself to the light
Cm A E Emaj7 Cm A B
And I know as you go it's alright

I was left holding
My hand in the cold wind
I watched break free, yeah, up and away
But look on the bright side
It all comes from the inside
And it's going to save me from nothing to say

So go on raise up your glass
Go on, raise up your glass
To letting the sun in at last

Up on a hilltop
There's a feeling it won't stop
Until I find comfort in watching you go
I'm walking a tight rope
And I'll cling to this slight hope
That I'll find a new song after the show

I know I won't sleep much tonight
There's too many confessions to write
I'm holding myself to the light
And I know as you go it's alright
It's alright…

Hey everyone, thanks for getting into the chords and lyrics of All These Roads. I've been getting some requests to post the chords and lyrics to my earlier albums. Here they are for my first record, Night Opens. It's a simple record, but in many ways my favorite. Me on vocals, guitar and harmonica, Pete Francis (from Dispatch, who is my college roommate and co-producer on this record) on lead guitars, Marty Ballou on upright bass, Marty Richards on drums, Steve Burke on B-3 organ and Clint Bierman on guitar and mandolin. We recorded this record in 2 days, from start to finish. It was recorded at Lakewest in Rhode Island, co-produced by Jack Gauthier, my friend and master of 'the vibey sound.' It's out of print for the moment, but it's available for download- places like iTunes and such. Hope you get to check it out, if you haven't already. All the best, and thanks for the support- Rich

Red flames like cathedral spires
Em-D-C
Red flames like cathedral spires

And the crossbeams split in two
Bails of water to buy some time
And a feeling like I can't get through
Like a madman trying to speak his mind
There's no time

G
So call your kettle black
C
Believe me boy you can never go back
Em-D-C
This life you left at dawn
Em-D-C
You got to cross your rubicon

Em-D-C
So you flee the city

Drop it all and get out

From the hills you say it looks pretty
Em-D-C
The same flames that burned our house

The same flames that burned our house

So call your kettle black
Believe me boy you can never go back
This life you left at dawn
You got to cross your rubicon

Since I held your hand in mine

Here in the twilight
The day is going fast
Oh love I still might
Find that you come at last

Free Will

Am
I chose to meet you
G
On the curb by the cube in the Astor Place
Am
And I decided I would stay
G
From the light across your face

Am
If it hadn't been for that late night movie
G
I'd probably be there still
Am
Yeah, I'll stay the night with you
G
But then I'm leaving of my own free will

Am-G x2

Am
She wailed like a siren
G
With the sounds from the street below
Am
I've got half an hour to get dressed and get to work
G
Another kiss before I go

Am
If it hadn't been for that late night romance
G
I would've had some time to kill
Am
Yeah, I'll stay the night with you
G
But then I'm leaving of my own free will

F Am
Oh, it's been a bad time for me
G Am
I must've let myself go
F Am
Oh, it's been a bad time for me
G Am
I'm just a shadow

C
About the time the cannonballs fly
F
Low arc in a big sky
G C Am-G
I'll be moving on
C
About the time the tidal waves come
F G
Hear the side of a steady drum that beats loudly
C Am-G
I'll be gone
F
I'll be gone

Broke the plans that I made
With the girl from the time before
I said 'my god this is what I came here for'

If it hadn't been for that late night music
I wouldn't have this space to fill
I'll stay the night with you
But then I'm leaving of my own free will

Oh, it's been a bad time for me
I must've let myself go
Oh, it's been a bad time for me
I'm just a shadow

About the time the cannonballs fly
Low arc in a big sky
I'll be moving on
About the time the tidal waves come
Hear the side of a steady drum that beats loudly
I'll be gone

Lillianne

F
It's getting old
Bb
All these lies that I've been told
C F
Keep adding up to drive me away
F
But it's nothing new
Bb
Nothing left for me to do
C F
'Cept to give you up on New Year's Day

C F
Oh but my darling, my sweet Lillianne
C F
Let go of my heart if you can
Bb F
I know you'll find yourself another man
C F
But it won't be me no more, Lillianne

I'm on my toes, I'm on my toes,
Keeping track nobody knows
What makes you do the shit you do
But I'm on my feet, I'm on my feet,
Now that the severance is complete
Please understand I'm over you

Oh but my darling, my sweet Lillianne
Let go of my heart if you can
I know you'll find yourself another man
But it won't be me no more, Lillianne
I know you'll find yourself another man
But it won't be me no more, Lillianne

Full Of Steam

Capo 3rd fret (so song is in Bb)

G C
I got a foghorn
G C
Doesn't matter much anymore
G C
My windows of vulnerability all shatter
G C
To broken shards on the floor

Am C
I'm back down and I came 'round
G
To see all this time as helping
Am C G
And besides, the insides of your city walls
D
Were bleeding me
D7
Just leading me

G C
I've been laughing
G C
I've been laughing

G C
You're walking a drawbridge
G C
You got your feet rolled up
G C
Your sleeves tied down
G C
And it's a hard edge of the rail

G C
This morning as I looked out
G C
I saw an old ship pass
G C
It must have had a hard edge on the sail

D Em
And I swear I feel I've been awake
C
For seventeen days straight
G C G C
But I'm feeling calm, cool and full of steam

Em D
All told I've been sold for a morsel
C G D
A modicum of change in light

G C
Oh, I bet your head aches
G C
I bet your heart breaks in two
G C
I wanted to see you begging for me
G C
To come back home
G C
But I don't give a damn if you do

Am C
'Cause I've found solid ground
G
It's time I claim it for my own
Am C
I won't feel the cold steel
G D
Of your city walls are bleeding me
D7
Leading me…

G C
I've been laughing
G C
I've been laughing

G C
The heat drips the ice tea sips
G C
The porch light is just right
G C
And it's calling for you and me
G C
And oh boy the engine toils
G C
The house they built is falling
G C
You'll see

Em D
And I swear I feel I've been awake
C
For seventeen days straight
G C
But I'm feeling calm, cool and full of steam

And I swear I feel I've been awake
For seventeen days straight
But I'm feeling calm, cool and full of steam

Current mood:  grateful
I keep getting requests about lyrics and chords, so…I've decided to post them here. Below are the lyrics & chords to the songs on the album. A couple things you need to know right off the bat. First, there's no better way to learn a song than to listen to it. So listen, listen and listen, and, where possible, listen loud! Anyone who's tried figuring out how to play a song by reading chords provided on OLGA or any of those web sites knows that more often than not, they're slightly wrong. It's because people (bad, self-taught guitar players like me) develop quirky ways of playing their own songs, which makes it hard to set down on paper exactly how it's done. Second, and probably most confusing, I tend to use two capos at the same time. I use a 'drop D' capo and a regular 6 string capo. Kyser makes a good 'drop D' capo. If you get one of these, it'll make your life a lot easier (when trying to make it sound just like the recordings). That said, I've indicated where I play with two capos, and then provided the easier way to play the song. Thanks for buying the record, thanks for your support, and thanks for wanting to learn these songs. Good luck & enjoy!

Rich (June 2007)

p.s if you DON'T have the record...it's up on iTunes...just waiting for you!

BREAKUP BREAKDOWN (words & music- Rich Price)

(notes: here's another double capo song. 4th and 6th and that intro lick is the backbone of the song. Here's the tab for that, but made a bit more simple- using on one capo. Tune to drop D (lower the low E to a D) then capo 6th fret.)

VERSE 1

It's the breakup breakdown again (capo 6th fret- Bm-A-G-D)

Doesn't much matter where or when (Bm-A-G-D)

You feel the cold air rush right in (Bm-A-G-D)

It's the breakup breakdown again (Bm-A-G-D)

She said, "I know you think you've been misled" (G D)

Should I believe in all the things you said? (G D)

CHORUS 1

All I wanna do is cover you like a blanket (Em D)

And pour my heart for you and be sure that you drank it (Em D)

VERSE 2

It's the breakup breakdown again (Bm-A-G-D)

You lose your mind if in love you never win (Bm-A-G-D)

You close the door but still it comes right in (Bm-A-G-D)

It's the breakup breakdown again (Bm-A-G-D)

She said, "I know you're bound to be ok, (G D)

Just loosen your grip the scales will tip our way." (G D)

CHORUS 2

But all I wanna do is cover you like a blanket (Em D)

And pour my heart for you and be sure that you drank it (Em D)

FROM NOTHING (words Rich Price, music Rich Price & Jeff Symonds)

(notes: the dreaded return of the double capo! Except this is a little different. Ok, it's very different. Place one capo on the 7th fret, covering all the strings. Place the second capo on the 9th fret, but so that it doesn't cover the B and high E strings. Then play an Em and let the two highest strings ring out- there's the root chord of the song. The chord G/B= 020030. And the song is in 6/8)

VERSE 1

TURN OFF MY HEART (ALBUM VERSION- words Rich Price, music Rich Price/Joe Deveau/Jeff Symonds)

(notes: you'll notice this is a piano song, and Joe plays some really cool [unusual] voicings. The song sounds nice on guitar too. I also call it 'album version' because there's a live version recorded back when we played this song in Eb. Anyway, Capo 4nd fret, so it's in B)

Current mood:  grateful
Hey everyone- in case anyone's interested, here's a video tour journal of the Rich Price/Brian Chartrand/Greg Naughton tour from the winter. Highlights of the tour- finding out we make a pretty good trio, our GPS, ping pong, all our gigs, everyone we met on the tour, free wireless, In & Out Burger, staying with the Chartrands, Naughtons, Reithers,Van Valkenburghs, sunflower seeds, big tin of brownies from Mrs Adler, official tour wife. Lowlights of the tour- touring in winter (yeah, we're geniuses!), 102 degree fever in Boulder, blown head gaskets in Virginia, audiences of one in a venue in PA which shall remain nameless (Brian, good work on that one, btw), health clubs in Boston (that practice false advertising- long story), playing in NYC during the worst snowstorm of the year, Arby's...

the three of us (we're calling ourselves RGB, because we're super creative) will be back on the road together late summer/early fall. Stay tuned, and thanks to everyone who helped make our winter tour so much fun!

Current mood:  excited
Hey, just wanted to let you know that my songs are going to be featured in a few new movies coming out soon. Here are the trailers:

The first one is 'I'm Reed Fish,' starring Jay Baruchel, Schuyler Fisk, Alexis Bledel, DJ Qualls, Katy Sagal and Chris Parnell. I've got four songs in the film, so as you watch it (and it comes out in theaters in June), keep an ear out! :)

The second one is 'Palo Alto,' which will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival next month. The film stars Aaron Ashmore, Johnny Lewis, Justin Mantell, Autumn Rsser, Ben Savage and Tom Arnold. To watch the trailer, click on the photo below.

The third film, Chapter 27, stars Jared Leto and Lindsay Lohan, and, from what I hear, it'll be in theaters in the fall. I co-wrote the song for the end credits, with the one and only Joe Deveau. I don't think the trailer is available yet, so I'll post another message closer to the release date.

Hope you're well, and thanks for the support!!! All the best, Rich

Current mood:  optimistic
April again, and I haven't updated this thing in a while. I love this time of year- baseball season again, the weather improves (although, now that I'm in LA, I can't really complain, but I will say that it's nearing beach weather out here).

The Feb/Mar tour with Brian was great fun. He summed it up pretty well in his blog- www.myspace.com/brianchartrand - but I'll add that getting to tour around with him (and with Greg Naughton, once he joined us) was great fun. I'm a big big fan of both those guys, and I think we make a pretty good acoustic trio. The show was fun, and the format was pretty exciting- I'd sing a song or two solo, then Brian would jump up and add his guitar and voice to one or two of mine, then we'd call Greg up and play as a trio. Then Greg and I would take a break, while Brian played a song or two solo, then I'd get up, then Greg, and the process would repeat itself. We had so much fun that we're definitely planning more shows for RGB (the working title for our acoustic trio extravaganza).

We finally brought Greg into the world of myspace. Checkout his page- myspace.com/gregnaughton, and hear some of the tunes he recorded for his soon-to-be-released EP. I have it in my little Honda Accord out here in LA and I can't get enough. I love it, and I think you will too.

Brian and I have tossed around the idea of doing some recording this summer, and we've started messing around with demo ideas. He recorded a cool new tune by the name of 'After the light fades' and sent me the acoustic/vocal demo, and I added a few bits and pieces. It's got a good vibe, demo warts and all. It's on Brian's page. More to come, I'm sure.

Looking forward to doing some writing this month, some demo-ing, and getting back on the road in May and June (hopefully a few shows with Greg and Brian). stay tuned, and all the best, Rich
