A bit of an update on what HOCs upto in 2008...

On Saturday 26th January we are shooting our first video clip for 'The Rivers and the Rain'.. 12 hours through the night should see some fun times, so watch this space for photos to come.

After completeing pre-production for our album with Mike Hoggard and Jamie Saint Merat from Retractile Audio, we will be gearing up this year to record our debut full lengh. It is undecided as to when it will be released at this point.

All copies of our free 'Solis Hail' Summer 07 sampler CD were snapped up at our last two shows in December, but hopefully we will have a stack more to give away in Feb/March.
If your interested in a copy then come along to any HOC shows and we should have them for free, alteritivly you can contact us through this site and we can probally get one to you.

We are also excited to announce that 'The Devils Kitchen', Australias premier stoner punk touring festival will be coming to NZ this year. Saturday March 15 will see some of NZ's coolest stoner and rock acts from Dunedin, Christchurch and Auckland come together for an unstoppable evening at The Thirsty Dog in Auckland. More details and full line up to be announced very soon.

New HOC Review

The House Of Capricorn are paving the way for this style in New Zealand. As far as what I can see they've been one of the country's best kept secrets for too long, only now beginning to emerge in public consciousness (especially in Christchurch where I live) as a definitive leader in the style nationally.
For anyone interested in the likes of Down, High On Fire, and Kyuss ... the usuals, not to say this band isn't bringing their own original element to the style and to their live performance.
It's intelligent, painfully heavy rock which is so ruthlessly addictive you wont resist getting up and moving to it.

South Islanders can catch the HOC live on stage when they headline the first annual EYES OF THE SOUTH Stoner Fest' on December 15th at Christchurch's infamous Jetset Lounge. For all other gig information see the gig's section of this forum or the aforementioned myspace link.

EYES OF THE SOUTH: NZ Stoner Rock Festival 2007

NZ's South Island is set to rock and get its groove on when EYES OF THE SOUTH: NZ Stoner Rock Festival 2007 blasts into life at the Jetset Lounge in Christchurch on Saturday December 15th.

EYES OF THE SOUTH 07 will comprise one stage, six crushing bands ranging from Kyuss influenced fuzz drenched rock to psychedelic pink floyd-esque jams, and a BBQ for all.

After completing their first NZ Tour and receiving a 4/5 Rip It Up review for their debut EP 'The Rivers And The Rain' , Auckland based sludge rockers THE HOUSE OF CAPRICORN will be heading South to feature on the bill, joining Christchurch's fuzz tyrants SECOND GEAR GRIND and Dunedin's SOULSELLER for blistering headline sets.

The evening will kick off with a free BBQ for all, followed by Christchurch's own THE LOUNGE VIBRATION and DUMPTRUCK, and will end with CATERPILLAR MARCH and their mix of original sounds, plus Kyuss covers, in tribute to the lords of all that is heavy.

Admittance to the show is with door sales only, at an astoundingly cheap early bird price of $7 before 9.30, and $10 after. For a showcase of New Zealand's best stoner acts you wont get it better than that.

In support of the event, C4's 'The Steelmill' will be showing an exclusive stoner rock special on Saturday 15th December at 1am (or Friday night to most of you). So make sure to tune in. The Rock FM's 'Axe Attack' will also feature the show and artists, along with free double passes to be scored. Make sure you tune in every Sunday, 8-11pm.

HOC REVIEW IN RIP IT UP

Wahoo! Sludge and swamp-flavored rock to get your groove on to! And groove you will! HoC from Auckland have hit gold with their first release, a wicked three-track EP of grimly grandeur. Track one, ' The Rivers And The Rain' is a ripper. I fricken love this tune. Groove, great playing and most righetous melodies give this song life and its a real showcase for the cool vocals of Marko Pavlovic. A sincere delivery and a warm and charismatic voice, Marko trips the song into life with the first lines, "I lost my groove today/ caught up tied down/ blew the game". Compelling, classy and powerful, this track has got it down in our recorded history books as a great Kiwi song. Period! The second track is 'Lies Nazareth' and it continues the dark and gritty theme nicely and shows off the talents, and potential of the band. Recorded by Retractile Audio in New Zealand, the EP was mastered by Alan Douches (Mastodon, Ben Folds Five, Fall Out Boy, The Chemical Brothers) and the band will back it up with a tour shortly. The last track is 'Sleep', it dooms slowly and drags you wretched and filthy by the withered scruff into The House of Capricorn's acid-flecked dreams. And you will love it! This Rules.

HOC SPRING 07 UPDATE...

Hey,

After hitting all of the big city centres for our Solis Hail NZ Tour, HOC will be laying low over the next couple of months and working on a few things....

We have the filming of our first video scheduled for the end of this year, also seven tracks of preproduction for our first album are in the works.

Hopefully we will be releasing a free summer sampler CD with a few of these unmastered tracks so people can get a taste of what the album is going to be like.

Apart from that we are busy in the rehersal room practicing our current and working on new material. Look out for upcoming shows at the end of the year.. A Stoner Festival in Christchurch, and a local Auckland show.
