Mommy Spotlights
Michelle Powell (powell647)
1-What is your Name, and the meaning behind it?
Michell, I was supposed to be named Amanda after the Don Williams song, but when I was born my parents said I looked like a Michelle instead. It was a very random decision.
2-What is your greatest accomplishment?
My hubby and I started our own DJ business, and I do all of the marketing, contracts, forms, everything. It has become very successful, and we are very proud of it! :)
3-Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
In 20 years I will probably be a grandma, living in the same house I'm in now, enjoying life! I would also love to run a multi-service wedding business with many employees offering many different services, including a reception center.
4-What music makes you feel best?
I love mostly all music, but I really like love songs! and 80s! ;)  I am also a huge New Kids On The Block fan, as most of you know, and LOVE their new album! :) I'm always trying to convince others of the greatness of it!
5-If you could leave your mark on this world, what would you be known for?
My messy house! :)  Haha, probably the time I've spent with kids, or my DJing business.
6-What is a talent you are really good at?
I catch on to things pretty quick. I work for my dad's company, and they give me lots of new projects because I learn fast and things come easy to me.
7-What bad habits do you wish you could break?
Screaming at my kids; don't we all?! I also would LOVE to be able to live without soda pop, especially Coke, but don't see that it's a very realistic goal!
8-Favorite book?
I love to read, so there's SO many! I really really like Second Glance by Jodi Picoult, The Time Traveler's Wife, and others. I even have a blog dedicated t! o my favorite books:
http://michellesfavoritebooks...blogspot.com/
9-Did you go to college? Where? What was your major?
I took a few classes in Medical Terminology, but that was it. I used to work at a Dr's office.
10-Where did you grow up? If you are not from Tooele, what brought you here?
I grew up in West Valley City, and when my parents moved from the house I grew up in to Lakepoint, we bought their old house. We spend a lot of time at my parents' house, so I guess I can say that they bring me to Tooele!
11-Favorite food?
It depends on the day. Usually chocolate and a Coke is good, or Chex mix while watching American Idol! Smile I LOVE chips and dip. Oh, wait, was I only supposed to list one thing?! Oh, and I love Chinese food, especially from the Canton Wok.
12- If you were stranded on a desert island, what one thing would you bring with you?
My computer and internet connection! . That way, I could stay connected to the world.
13-What are your children's names and ages
Allison - 5 years old
Samuel - 3 years old
14-What do you do when you have an hour all by yourself?
Watch TMZ and/or Days of Our Lives, or read a book. Why waste that precious time doing laundry or dishes?! That would be SUCH a waste!
15-If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?
I would love to be able to be invisible! I would love to spy on people without them knowing!
16- What does your dh/significant other do?
Tortures me by poking me in the side when I'm trying to concentrate on something. Oh, wait, did you mean for a job?! He works for a collection agency during the day, DJs with me on the weekends, and cleans my dad's office 3x a week in the mornings.
17-What is/was your dream job
To work for TMZ and make fun of people and celebrities! :)
18-What is ! your favorite TV show or movie?
TMZ and Days of Our Lives. I ! also LOVE American Idol, Hells Kitchen, So You Think You Can Dance. I LOVED Kath and Kim, and Journeyman, and am still SO sad that they're canceled! Sad (This is why I HAVE TO HAVE a DVR! My life can't revolve around TV, so we set it to record so we can watch all these shows at night when the kiddos are asleep).
19-What is your favorite flower?
Sunflower all the way! My whole wedding revolved around Sunflowers, as does my kitchen. I also love daisies and ivy.
20-Why did you join Tooele mommies?
We live in West Valley, but my parents live in Lakepoint, and we are out there quite often. My brother and his wife and two kids also just moved out to Stansbury Park, so we are out there even more! Smile Who knows, it IS growing on us, so maybe we'll end up living out there as well!!!!

Kim (littlephoenix)

1-What is your Name, and the meaning behind it?
LittlePhoenix: I love the phoenix as a symbol, a bird who rises from the ashes. Not things I want to talk about too much but I've survived some pretty bad stuff and came out stronger. And I added Little because Spike likes to call me little lady :)
2-What is your greatest accomplishment?
Getting my GED 6 months after coming to America.
3-Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
Not sure. But I hope to be in another interesting place in the world, close to my kids and maybe grandkids and with a couple more diplomas.
4-What music makes you feel best?
Country.
5-If you could leave your mark on this world, what would you be known for?
Would be nice if I could get people to stop and think for a moment about kids and safety. Drives me nuts to see people drive around with the kids loose in the car.
6-Wh! at is a talent you are really good at?
I've been told over and over again that I'm a good listener. Not sure if it's true but I do love listening to people, I love finding out how they think.
7-What bad habits do you wish you could break?
Putting of important things. Like filing paperwork or making phonecalls.
8-Favorite book?
The Discworld serries by Terry Pratchett.
9-Did you go to college? Where? What was your major?
I wish! But I do hope to get started on my online studies soon.
10-Where did you grow up? If you are not from Tooele, what brought you here?
Hoofddorp, the Netherlands. Little zombietown close to Amsterdam. My husband got a job at Dugway and I did not want to live on base so we ended up here in Tooele. Was a bit of a shock at first but if you give this town an honest chance it's easy to get to like it.
11-Favorite food?
Fruit! And after that steak.
! 12- If you were stranded on a desert island, what one thing! would you bring with you?
lol, a survival pack?
13What are your children's names and ages
Minka is 8, Bear will be 3 in July and we're expecting another one the end of November.
14-What do you do when you have an hour all by yourself?
A whole hour to do what I want? Wow, probably read or meditate.
15-If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?
The power to convince people that realy I am right. Again, mostly to convince people to take a moment to make sure their kids are safe. There is so much in the world we cannot protect them from but there are also a lot of little things we can do that will help them be a little safer.
16- What does your dh/significant other do?
He works for the Army as a civillian.
17-What is/was your dream job
Be a peuterspeelzaaljuf. Uhm...let's see, that would be like a preschoolteacher here. I love working with little kids. 18-What is your favorite TV show or movie?
Good question. Mostly we watch CSI and The Unit.
19-What is your favorite flower?
Yellow rose
20-Why did you join Tooele mommies?
We've moved 5 times in the past 10 years. I've learned that the best way to feel at home again is to get to know some people as soon as possible. So the moment I knew where we were moving to I started looking for local groups online.

TooeleMommies is helping out the homeless

We will be collecting items for the homeless community
in Tooele through Relief Services.
Particularly needed are: protein bars, bottled water, peanut butter crackers, pork and beans, Vienna sausages, boxes of raisins, fruit cups, fruit snacks, and tuna with cracker snack packs.
*Please note that everything must be a pop top or able to be opened without a can opener, and should not need added water or to be heated.*

We will be collecting items through the end of May. You may bring your items to any event or drop them off at any of the managers homes (call/pm them first please!). Thanks for your help in supporting our community!

The Big Prune is coming!

If you have NOT logged into our forums in the last 2 mths you may be pruned from our site soon. TMN prunes inactive members from our site every 6 months and the most recent one will be taking place later this month.

Why do we do this? There are two reasons we do this. The first is to
have an accurate membership number for our sponsor, or potential
sponsor. The second is that we want to keep our members safe! Pruning
helps to eliminate the people that lurk and never post. We want all of
our members and family to feel safe as possible by pruning out those
who don't participate.

How do I avoid being pruned? Log in and post! That's it!

* The good news is that if you account get pruned for inactivity, you can re-apply. Thanks!!

Easter Activities

Easter Bunny Cracker Treat

Too much candy for Easter? Try these adorable yet nutritious crackers topped with veggies and cheese!

What you'll need:

  • Water crackers
  • Pretzel sticks
  • Carrots, julienne strips
  • Radishes
  • White cheese
  • Spreadable cream cheese

How to make it:

  1. Spread each cracker with a layer of cream cheese.
  2. Cut two teeth from the center of a radish and press into the cream cheese.
  3. Place three julienne carrot strips on each side of the cracker for the whiskers.
  4. Cut two circles from a slice of white cheese (we used white American) and place over the radish teeth and carrot whiskers.
  5. Cut a triangle from the radish and press into cream cheese above the cheese cheeks.
  6. Break a pretzel stick in half and press side by side into the cream cheese for one of the ears. Repeat for the other side.
  7. Break off the tip of a pretzel stick and push into cream cheese for one of the eyes. Repeat for other eye.

Tips:

  • Whole wheat crackers are better for you than those made with bleach flour.
  • Experiment with other vegetables, or try with fruits and a sweetened cream cheese dip or peanut butter.
  • When children help make their food they are more likely to eat it!

All Natural Egg Dyes for Easter
“For all dyes, bring the dye mixture
to a boil, remove from heat and cool and strain liquid into a medium
bowl. Submerge 4 to 6 hard-cooked eggs in dye for up to 30 minutes,
depending on how deep you want the color to be. Remove from dye and
place on a cooling rack to dry and drain. Store in the fridge until
ready to use.”

And the colors. I have most of this on hand except for the fresh beets!

“Orange: 2 tbsp paprika

Blue: 1 1/2 cups blueberries

Pink: 1 cup chopped fresh beets

Green: 1 cup blueberries and 2 tbsp turmeric”

From
there you can let your children decorate them with markers, paint, or
stickers for younger ones (although this will make them harder to
compost at the end!).

No more plastic dye sets + happy kids engaged in green Easter craft = a happy, green parent!

I’m not sure! That’s a long time from now. I guess I would see me and

Leprechaun Trap

See if you can catch a leprechaun!

What you'll need:

  • Shoe box (do not need lid)
  • Aluminum foil
  • Glue
  • Tape, optional
  • Green felt, craft foam, or paper
  • Shamrock stickers, optional
  • Scissors
  • Stick about twice the depth of the box.

How to make it:

  1. Cover a shoe box with aluminum foil using glue or tape to hold it in place.
  2. Cut shamrocks out of felt, foam, paper, or use stickers to decorate.
  3. Glue the shamrocks, if not using stickers, to the box.
  4. The night before St. Patty's Day, put a stick under the box and leave it out by your front door.
  5. If a leprechaun stops by, he'll leave a surprise for you! (I like
to leave some green candies or a few shiny pennies for the kids)

Pruning Alert!

Every month the management of TooeleMommies prunes our inactive members. This means that if you haven't logged in and posted in the last thirty days, you are at risk of losing your TM membership!

* Why do we do this? There are two reasons we do this. The first is to have an accurate membership number for our sponsor, or potential sponsor. The second is that we want to keep our members safe! Pruning helps to elimate the people that lurk and never post. We want all of our members and family to feel safe as possible by pruning out those who don't participate.

* The good news is that if you account get poruned for inactivity, you can re-apply. Thanks!!

Save the Server! The system health is strained due to overwork and lack of sleep. Write reviews and help TMN raise money for a new server so we won't have to see this message any more!

Save the Server!

The Mommies Network needs your help. We are raising money to pay for a new server. In order to continue growing, we need to add a new server to our system. At this point, we are unable to add any more sites to our network because we are maxed out (have you seen the " The system health is strained due to overwork and lack of sleep." message at the bottom of the screen?). The basic server we need is at least $5,000. The more money we raise, the better quality server we can purchase. Our goal is to raise $10,000 during this fundraiser. The fundraiser runs from Sunday, January 4 through Sunday, January 25.

How can you help?

Join Insider Pages and write reviews for businesses that you have patronized in the last 24 months. Invite your friends and families to write reviews as well--they do NOT need to live in your area, this is a national fundraiser. The more people who are writing reviews, the more successful this fundraiser will be!

Our goal is to have all of our members write at least 10 reviews over the three weeks of the fundraiser. Each review can earn up to $1.50 for The Mommies Network! Every little bit helps!

You win too!

Your members have four chances to raise money for your site too!

When TMN raises $1000, we will pick one participating site to receive $50 for a site party/event, and that site will receive a special theme color.

When TMN raises $2500, we will pick one participating site to receive $100 for a site party/event, and that site will receive a special theme color.

When TMN raises $5000, we will pick 1 participating site to receive $125 for a site party/event, and that site will receive a special theme color.

When TMN raises $10,000, we will pick 1 participating site to receive $150 for a site party/event, and that site will receive a special theme color.

*A participating site is any site that has 10% or more of their members register, join their site team and write at least one review. Based on membership numbers as of December 2008.

Join Your Site's Team!

Want to get that prize for your local site!? Join TooeleMommies team in helping TMN SAVE THE SERVER!

Here are step by step instructions on how to get into your team and how you can participate!

  1. Go to http://www.insiderpages.com/ fundraisers/The-Mommies-Network-0901
  2. Click on "Join This Fundraiser".
  3. Choose "Select a Team" (located under Your Contribution on the right hand side)
  4. Select TooeleMommies from the drop down menu and join!

Keep up to date on our progress! Visit http://themommiesnetwork.blogspot.com to view updated progress on the fundraiser, participating sites, and more.

The fine print from Insider Pages:

  1. You must be at least 18 years old to participate.
  2. Your experience with the business or service reviewed must be a first-hand experience. No hearsay please.
  3. Your experience with the business or service provider must have occurred within the last 24 months.
  4. The reviewed company must still be in business.
  5. Reviews of restaurant chains (McDonalds, Outback Steakhouse, KFC, etc.), gas station chains, movie theater chains and national or regional chain stores (Target, Dollar Tree, Home Depot etc.) DO NOT qualify. You are welcome to write reviews for these businesses but they will not earn your organization money for the fundraiser. Most people are pretty familiar with these businesses and there tends to be little differentiation city to city and state to state. In other words, these are businesses that do not require a word-of-mouth referral so reviews of these businesses are of little value to people like you – and to our community of users.
  6. Copied reviews in whole or in part from any other sources do not qualify.
  7. Profanity, abusive or offensive language in reviews, reviews alleging illegal activity or malpractice, and reviews deemed inappropriate by Insider Pages editors do not qualify.
  8. Proper grammar, punctuation and spelling must be used. No "text speak" or ALL CAPS.
  9. Business owners and employees/associates are not allowed to review themselves. Instead, business owners should claim their business profile page and customize it by adding information, photos, special offers, their story, and more – all for FREE.
  10. If you are adding a new business to the Insider Pages database, please make sure to the best of your ability that the listing is not a duplicate and that the company's current contact information is provided. Information provided must be able to be verified by a third party source including another website, a business card, receipt, directory listing or other reliable source.
  11. Personal information or messages including email addresses, URLs, phone numbers and postal addresses (or both first and last name of an individual unless their name is also part of the business name) that are not already publicly available.
  12. Review submissions must be entered directly on the Insider Pages website.
  13. Reviews not meeting our terms and conditions or deemed inappropriate by Insider Pages editors do not qualify.

Thank you for supporting The Mommies Network!

Use the turkey crafts to decorate for your Thanksgiving feast. Have a few turkeys prepared before the guests arrive. If you decide to make these as a group craft, seeing one completed will help the children construct their own.
