I went to my doctor yesterday.
As most of you who know me already know, I suffer from severe limitations with energy. (And patience, and class, but those are other blogs.) Anyway, it got to the point where, for the last month or two, I have been barely able to function. So even though I don't have insurance, I figured it was time to get some advice.
My appointment was with my family doctor, who's been seeing me since I was about 24. She is brilliant, and has an excellent reputation and I'm lucky to be her patient!!
So yesterday, after bitching and cursing for over 15 minutes about my symptoms, and her fluctuating between laughing and being concerned, she did something that made me laugh my ass off.
This wholesome, young, intelligent mother of three, sat me down and said, "Karyn, you're anemic as Hell." LOLLL!!!
*heart swells with pride*
I love when I can have an influence on people. My boss, my doctor... who's next!!???? MWAAAHHH HAAA HAAAA!!!!
Oh, so yeah, I have started on supplements and hopefully will have a normal red blood cell count by the time of my trip to see Ruth in Cape Cod!!! YAY!!!

I had an opportunity to ask a new friend today:
"Do you get Cute Overload?"
I meant, of course, do you subscribe to the daily C.O. email. But since we were all day at this Rabbit Haven adoption show in Santa Cruz, I guess it could have been taken out of context.
Her amazingly adorably answer was:
"Yes, I get it every day, what with our 17 foster kittens and 4 foster bunnies."
:-O
The rest of you - WHY AREN'T YOU FOSTERING? Please?!? Try to see if you have room in your heart and home for a foster animal! There are so many out there who need you!
And please also subscribe to www.cuteoverload.com because it'll make your fucking morning! :)

Please Help The Rabbit Haven win a $20,000 grant!
Vote for us at: http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/shelterchallenge.faces?siteId=3 and we could win up to $20,000 to help bunnies in need. Just search for "The Rabbit Haven" in California and vote! It's really easy.
Dear Bunny family, The Animal Rescue Site is hosting a special challenge for eligible Petfinder.com member shelter and rescue groups. The grand prize is a $20,000 grant, and they will be awarding many other grants to rescue groups with the most votes — a total of $100,000 in grants for animal welfare organizations. We are a bit behind at getting you this notice. So vote...every day and tell all of your friends and family to vote too. Last year we won a photo contest this way!
Think how many animals we could help for $20,000!
Help us win! Vote today!
All you have to do is click to help rescued animals, and then vote in The Animal Rescue Site $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge. Both of these actions are absolutely free! You can vote once a day, every day, from now until July 26, 2009. You can even ask the Animal Rescue Site to send you a daily reminder so you won't miss a single opportunity to vote. Every time you vote, or tell a friend to vote, you are making a huge difference for us.
We also have a couple of anonymous friends of the Rabbit Haven setting up a matching challenge. If the Haven is in the top 15 rabbit groups nationwide or the top 15 shelters of any kind in California, they will donate $250 to The Rabbit Haven. If the Haven is in the top 10 in either of these categories, they will double the donation to $500. You can help us achieve this goal by voting each day and telling all your friends and family to vote too!
Vote today!

Current mood: hopeful
Now that I'm sort of "normal" again, and the worst of the intense grief is beginning to pass, I thought I'd update the blog with more info.
Cocoa came down with symptoms of E Coniculi, which is a horrible parasite carried by about 3/4 of the rabbit population. Unfortunately, some develop symptoms more severely than others, and don't respond to the treatment. Letting go of Cocoa was one of the most difficult, painful decisions I've ever made in my life. I miss him so, so much... But he is still with me. I'm convinced of it. I pray to him when it hurts so bad I can't stand it, and just when I think I'm going to die, the pain will ease a bit. The most compelling evidence of his presence, however, happened a few nights ago:
I was crying and missing my sweet Cocoa terribly. It was late at night, and the new foster bunny had been here for several days. She wasn't quite comfortable yet, so I was letting her be.
Let me digress... when I first brought Cocoa home in 2005, he was a "foster" bunny... meaning, I would keep him and take care of him until he was adopted. I would bring him to the adoption shows and hope he found a home. However, the first night I had him home, I had let him run around free and went to bed. I was sound asleep in the middle of the night that first night when, all of a sudden, Cocoa jumped on my head. He sat on my head for about 15 seconds before jumping down, during which time I fell hopelessly in love. Needless to say, I refused to take him to any of the adoption shows because I didn't want anyone else to take him!!! I'm what's called a Foster Failure.
So, the other night when I was crying and feeling sad, I asked Cocoa to help me get through it. After a few minutes, the pain started to subside and I began to drift off to sleep. Just as I was about to fall into a deep sleep, Faith, the new foster bunny, jumped on my head. HAHA!! She hadn't done it before, and hasn't done it since, but I'm absolutely certain that Cocoa was telling me to be happy with Faith and that he was okay.
Cocoa was my first true bunny love. I don't know if I'll ever get over him. I LOVE YOU, COCOA!!
P.S. Miss Faith will have a profile at some point, as the failure to foster process progresses... lol (I've already refused to bring her to one show.)

Easter is a really tough time for rabbits. People think they're cute, and buy them as Easter gifts. Typically, they don't realize that it's a bit of work to care for bunnies properly, and eventually many will be dumped, abandoned or euthanized. This Easter, if you see or hear of anyone contemplating buying a rabbit as an Easter present, try to dissuade them. At the very least, refer them to their nearest rabbit rescue organization. The bunnies and I thank you!

Please also repost this blog/bulletin if you feel so compelled. You never know whose hearts and lives you'll touch! You just might even save a life!

Current mood: crushed
Cocoa passed away on Saturday, March 7. He got what we think was E Coniculi. Google it.. I'm too tired to explain. Basically, he was so dizzy and motion sick that his little body couldn't stop spinning. He couldn't stand on his own. After treating him for a week, I decided I didn't want him to suffer anymore. I had him put to sleep at 5:00pm on Saturday. I will love him forever and I'm just devastated. Those of you who know me really know how much I love the little fella. He was a huge part of my everyday life and there will be a gigantic void. I can't write anything more. I LOVE YOU, COCOA PUFF! YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Current mood:god damn sick of moving
That's right. Yet another move for me this year. What is that now... four? Yep.

I've become a regular expert at packing... err... well... getting my dishes from one house to another in a big ole garbage bag.
I can also pack my car so that it holds more stuff than circus clowns could ever cram in there.

I'm just tired of moving. Pray that this is the last one for a long, long time. It's hard fucking work, any way you slice it.
