HOLE IN THE PAPER SKY COMING TO ITUNES SOON! SOUNDTRACK AVAILABLE NOW!
One of the coolest things about being a producer is that you get to see a film come together in bits and pieces, from the first reading of the script all the way down to the final product, and one of the most important parts of that process is the creation of the movie's score. Bill Purple, the director of "Hole in the Paper Sky," reached out to composer Kerry Muzzey as we began post-production on the film, and Kerry's response was, "A movie about a dog? I'm in!" The challenge: we were all in L.A. and Kerry was in NYC. I think this is actually one of Bill Purple's favorite stories about making this movie: he and Kerry ha d never met, did all the work by email, sent musical cues back and forth by FTP, and then met in person for the very first time at the film's premiere.
However, the process wasn't without its difficulties: halfway through the film's score, Kerry lost his own dog to a very aggressive cancer. I think this is one of those situations where life informs art, though, because the score that he created for "Hole in the Paper Sky" was absolutely beautiful. The music is so poignant and moving, and added a whole new layer of emotionality to the film. We're all really proud of the final product, and of the score as a standalone work. You can download it on iTunes at this link:
I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do.

Hi Myspace!
This past Tuesday I headed down to the Children's Hospital Los Angles with my family, Make the Difference Network, and our corporate sponsor Costco to throw a Holiday Party for 100 patients and their families. Everyone involved had a great time at the party which included a Santa for the kids, an electric Menorah, cup cake decorating, a huge Christmas tree with toys provided by our friends at Hasbro, live music by Alex Band of the Calling, a special dance performance by Twitch, and flowers and ornaments provided by our friends at Francy Flowers. This event brought many smiles and a little extra joy to these deserving and courageous young people and their families.
On December 10th I'll be hosting the Make the Difference Holiday Party Benefitting the Children's Hospital Los Angeles fundraiser which will be held at Social Hollywood. This event will raise significant funds toward the development of the new hospital building currently in development. Even if you can't attend this party, there's a number of ways you can still show your support for the Children's Hospital and I've provided links to information about CHLA and ways to support or get involved below! We'll also be auctioning one of kind celebrity experiences and other exciting auction items through Ebay Auction Cause and all proceeds go directly to CHLA. Hello MySpace! Okay, so I'm sitting in my trailer between set-ups and I am praying for a surge of inspiration to make my first blogging experience a positive one. I definitely did not make it onto the debate team in high school so I'm feeling extremely insecure about communicating publicly for the first time via the blogosphere (how about that word for a novice?). I'm still getting the lingo down. I have been "internet challenged" long enough and am thrilled to join the tech revolution! Plus, I only have four friends and am in dire need of more. Just kidding, I have six. Anyway, not only do I feel cooler being an official blogger, but I'm also realizing that this is a perfect place to share some projects that I'm working on that I'm really excited about. I'm trying on the producer cap with my friend, Michelle, with our production company Iron Ocean Films. We made a thirty minute short last year, called Hole in the Paper Sky about a man's experience after meeting a dog that changes his life. I think it's a really evocative, beautiful film, and it has won an award at all four festivals where it has screened. I'll put up a trailer as soon as I can figure out how to do that:) I hope that animal lovers will be moved by this film as well because it has an animal rights element to it, which I'm a huge advocate for. I'm actually sitting here with my dog, Tina. She's not really into blogging. We also have a feature in development with United Artists, called Die A Little based on a book by Meagan Abbott. It's a noir set in Hollywood during the glamorous 1950's. I loved the book and I think it has major cinematic potential, but I'm getting a first hand look at how difficult development is. Hopefully, I won't be too old by the time we shoot this thing so I can play the main character. Fingers crossed. Also, considering the state of the world right now, I've been discovering some really amazing non profit organizations that are giving back to the planet and the people in wonderful and innovative ways. I'm going to try to highlight one that I'm really interested in every month. To find out more information on how to donate, check out mtdn.com. MTDN is the business that my family created to provide support for non profits. Okay, that's it for now. I'm headed back to set. Hopefully this was a successful first try and I'll catch ya on the flip side!!
