"The main catch line of the campaign is "don't treat our roads like a race track" and there are plenty of reasons for this. I know for a fact once you've tried a race track, you'll never try and do silly things on the road again. The race track allows you to do incredible things on a motorbike and once you've experienced that you'll know that the road doesn't even come close to allowing you the same experience. So go to a track day and unleash your machine in safety, it will change your thought process and how you approach road riding forever."

Current mood:  relaxed

So often people think motorcycle accidents occur simply because of speed and that just isn't the case. A lot of times it's riders not riding to their abilities.

Cornering can be very difficult and if you don't know the corner well that can add another dimension. You must treat each corner differently. Just because you took the last one at 60km/h, doesn't mean the next one will be the same. It could have a different camber or less grip. This is where the take control slogan comes from.

Ease off a little and give yourself every opportunity to make the corner without running wide or sliding the bike down the road. If you want to see how fast you can go around a corner go to a race day and really enjoy yourself in a safe environment.

Dear All,

When I first thought about doing something proactive about road safety, I could never have imagined how well it would turn out.  We shot the TV commercial at the start of the year at Phillip Island and from there things have snowballed.

The press components have been support by Suzzuki Australia and we now have many competitions running with some great prizes donated by some of my sponsors and others who have beleived in this concept.  To a degree it's now over to the Australian media to help us spread the word.

Many of you have already committed to help campaign and we thank you very much for that.  By spreading the word we will make it safer to ride bikes on Australian roads.  A real investment in our future.

Riding motorcycles is a wonderful way of life and for so many Australian's it is becoming a lifestyle choice, but we must take a proactive role and remind all riders to take care.  The campaign says it all; "Take control".

Thanks to the team at MA for your many hours of work and dedication to the project.

Your's faithfully,

Chris Vermuelen
