DOUBLE TROUBLE:
Many, many moons ago there lived a set of twins. Now, these were no ordinary twins, oh no, they were far from ordinary, for one, a young boy by the name of Malcolm, was the greatest wizard ever to be known. His twin sister, as fate would have it, was the greatest warrior of her time. Her name was Madilynn. Together, they made the greatest fighting duo in all the history of Castleton. Nowadays people tell of the wonderful, glamorous, and daring adventures of the twins Malcolm and Madilynn, the great king and queen. However, the story of their origin as heroes is a lesser known and rarely told tale, and is also nearly long forgotten from the days of old, but I can recall my great-grandfather telling it to me as a boy.
Born on the ninth of October, the twins were raised in the poor ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />village of Cottontop. Their family was one of the least fortunate in the village, with their father working on a noble's fields for little pay and their mother weaving when she wasn't taking care of the children. Around the age of 13, Malcolm began to develop a natural talent for spell casting, being not gifted in any one area like most other wizards and witches, but excelling in all areas of magic. His mother, a novice witch herself was delighted and told the master of the village of his great success. He was immediately sent to study under the castle wizard for two years.
His sister Madilynn found that she was quite strong for one her age and could work longer than her father, a full grown man. Her father, though secretly embarrassed, was rather proud and began to train his daughter in the sword and shield and spear. During her training, her strength began to grow and within the two year period of her brother's study, she was able to best her father with any weapon or in a bare fisted match in seconds. Madilynn also was extremely fast and was a flawless tactician in battle.
As it had been two years since the twins had seen each other, both Malcolm and Madilynn were worried about Malcolm coming back and both twins thought that the other would have changed. However, both found their suspicions to be ridiculous when Malcolm came back and the twins talked as though not a day had gone by. They told each other of the things they had learned, each showing the other things. After a few weeks, Malcolm found that he was decent with a dagger, and began carrying one on his person. Madilynn tried to study magic but found that she could only conjure the most meager of spells, which were mostly battle magics, such as fire balls and firing a solid ice sickle which could pierce most anything.
The twins spent as much time as possible with each other, talking all day of things they learned whilst the other was away and of their thoughts on recent events. One topic of which they discussed in great detail was the capture of the king's daughter by a band of rogues. They had recently heard news that the king was offering a bounty on the return of his daughter and the defeat of the bandits.
